Author's Note: I wrote it much quicker than I thought I would, something which I am really glad about. So anyway, I hope that you like this chapter as it is also quite long, though not as long as the previous one. I have also written some important information about the story at the bottom, so make sure you read it. Also, lately I have been receiving a very small amount of reviews, and while I do not like to seem ungrateful I still request that my readers try and review, as it is very disappointing for me. Anyway, enjoy!

The Experiments of Tom Marvolo Riddle – Chapter 19

Written By YT12J

"Calm down, Harry!" Tom responded, however he was thinking quite deeply. What were they supposed to do, go on a rescue mission? However he knew that Harry wouldn't accept leaving it to somebody else to go and rescue him, he wanted to go himself. Tom could restrain him and force him not to go and put his life in danger just to save his godfather, but he didn't want to take that option.

"We have to go there right now, and if you don't come with me then I'll go alone." Harry said, taking deep breaths to calm down more. Tom sighed; he decided to give up trying to speak reason with Harry, maybe if they took a few others then a rescue mission could work. He thought off the top of his head of the highest achievers of the WHM.

"Ok, it's fine. Let's take a few people from the WHM and go, and we can also get someone to take a message to Dumbledore while we go. We should take Weasley and Granger, Lovegood, Longbottom, the Weasley girl and your girlfriend, and you can find someone in the Common Room to take a message to Dumbledore."

"Ok." Harry nodded. "How are we going to get there by the way?"

Tom thought for a moment and then said "The Room of Requirement. There is a Vanishing Cabinet there that goes to Borgin and Burke's, in Knockturn Alley. We can go there and then Floo to the Ministry. I'll go to the Room and you gather everyone and get the message sent to Dumbledore."

Without saying anything else they both rushed out of the room, Tom going down the stairs and out of the Common Room, heading to the Room of Requirement, and Harry, before gathering everyone else, wrote a small note to Dumbledore on a piece of parchment and gave it to a small first-year along with a few galleons so that he would agree.

He then rushed off to speak to Ron and Hermione who were sitting on the sofa and doing homework. They were sceptical when he started speaking, but after he mentioned that he spoke to Sirius through a mirror they believed him and the three of them used the map to find the other four people that would go with them.

Hermione tried to convince Harry to go and speak to Dumbledore directly, however he refused on the grounds that by the time they could speak to him Sirius would be long dead. She would have insisted if he hadn't told her that he had sent a message to Dumbledore with someone. They found most of the other people in the library, and after briefing them on the situation they all agreed and followed him to the Room of Requirement where he knew Tom would be waiting.

Inside the Room Tom was standing in front of the cabinet that Harry assumed would take them to Knockturn Alley. Tom gestured inside it, and they all stood together before being transported to Borgin and Burkes.

Inside Borgin and Burke's, to their immense luck, there was no one there so they were free to go into the large fireplace and transport themselves to the Ministry. Once inside the Ministry Tom muttered "Follow me, I know the way to the Department." and Harry told the others to follow him, not that he was the one who knew the route.

When they finally walked into the Department, Harry mentioned to Tom that Sirius had been in a place with shelves of glass spheres, and Tom nodded, implying that he knew exactly where to go. The eight of them walked for a while, none of them saying much, until they finally got into a space in front of some shelves where Sirius was sitting on a chair, tightly bound and gagged. He was desperately moving his eyes, and it wasn't until the hooded figures came out of the shadows that Harry understood what he was trying to say.

A shrill cackle came from one of the Death Eaters, and when they came into the light Harry was able to identify her as Bellatrix Lestrange. He felt Neville stiffen behind him, and remembered the fact that the woman had tortured his parents into insanity.

"Do you want to keep your godfather, Harry?" Lucius Malfoy asked as he pulled his mask off. Tom came next to him and whispered some instructions. Harry nodded and passed them on.

"Yes." he said immediately. All of the Death Eaters laughed.

"Then you shall have to do something for us, otherwise he will die."

Harry nodded, and listened to the other seven speaking quietly and getting their wands out. He continued to glare until Malfoy spoke again.

"Do you see that shelf behind him? One of those prophecies has your name on it, and if you want him to survive you will bring that prophecy over and hand it to me."

Harry saw Tom step behind Sirius, and when he nodded Harry shouted "Now!"

Immediately a surge of spells came from his friends and hit the shelves, causing all of the spheres to smash, some of them flying forward and knocking out the Death Eaters. Tom helped by firing curses and getting the vast majority, but after several seconds he ran with the rest of them so that the Death Eaters would not realise that there was somebody invisible there.

Harry ran with Tom, Daphne and Ron at his side and witnessed the other four go through a door across the room. Inside the room that they went in there were many time-turners on the walls, and Tom immediately spun when they came in and locked the door in a complex way that would hopefully keep the Death Eaters out.

The four of them sat down on the floor, gasping for breath. Luckily Harry had been obstructing the view of Ron and Daphne so they had not seen the door seemingly closing and locking by itself. They simply assumed that he had done it.

"They have your godfather as a hostage, this wasn't a good idea." Daphne panted. Harry knew that she was right; they could hide in the room but there was nothing stopping them from killing him. As if on cue they heard some knocks on the door, presumably the Death Eaters, and then a voice.

"Potter, we have your godfather right here and we know you're in there. If you don't come out now then we'll kill him instantly. You have ten seconds."

He then heard the same voice counting down from ten, and knew that he had no choice. "Don't do it Harry." Ron pleaded, and Daphne did the same, but he paid them no heed. Surprisingly Tom didn't attempt to stop him, but the cunning look on his face made him suspect that the young Dark Lord had something planned.

When Harry walked over to the door, unlocked and opened it on the other side were two Death Eaters, one of them with their wand pointed at Sirius who was hovering unconscious, and one of them with their wand pointed at Harry. Before any of them could say anything Harry felt an invisible force fling him across the room, taking Sirius with him and leaving the door to slam shut and be locked. Harry silently thanked Tom for saving him for a predicament that he did not want to be in.

Just before the door shut the Death Eater that'd had his wand pointed at Harry fired a spell which simply hit the ground. When Harry landed across the room, he was lucky to not be standing up like Daphne and Ron as the spell suddenly made the floor shake violently like there was an earthquake. Ron and Daphne fell over and were knocked out when their heads hit to hard stone floor, however Tom had recognized the spell and jumped down to the ground immediately.

Harry slowly walked over to Tom, feeling some pain from being thrown through the air and landing painfully. Tom looked up at him and waited for him to speak, looking quite tired from all of the powerful spells that he had used.

"Listen, lately I've been looking in a lot of books for a way that might let you stay in this time and I actually think I've found one."

Tom looked surprised at this, and instead of speaking simply gestured for him to continue. Harry took a deep breath and did so. "I found a spell where when you use it your exact physical and mental states are imprinted onto your wand, and later on you can restore yourself to the exact same as when you first did it. I figured if you do this when you go back in time you can then wipe your memory of ever coming here and then continue on to become Voldemort. Then in this time I can restore you, and you'll be exactly the same."

Tom observed him for a few seconds before opening his mouth to speak. "It's interesting, and I can't really see any fault in it, however –"

He was interrupted by the door being blasted off its hinges. The both got up and turned around to find several Death Eaters levitating Hermione, Neville, Luna and Ginny, unconscious and bound. Harry didn't have to hear what they had to say, he simply walked over with Tom at his side and followed them after they also took Ron, Daphne and Sirius captive. It wasn't possible for Tom to pull the same trick as last time because they had taken too many people hostage, and he was also magically and physically drained.

The Death Eaters led them without speaking back to the Hall of Prophecy where they glared at him threateningly, pointing their wands at the hostages and watching him walk over to the shelf with the prophecy they wanted on it. Before he could even take a look at it there was a soft 'crack' and Harry looked over in horror to see Voldemort standing there, not even smiling evilly. "Good day Harry. It seems your services are no longer required as I am here and am the other person that can lift that prophecy off the shelf. Now stand aside."

Harry did so and watched Voldemort walk over and pick up the glass sphere, turning it over in his hands in fascination. Before he could do anything else to it there were several loud noises and they all turned around to find several members of the Order of the Phoenix standing there with Dumbledore. Voldemort cursed, storing the prophecy in his robes before walking over and joining his Death Eaters in battle, while Harry ran with Tom through another door, forced to leave his friends behind, although they were safe now that Dumbledore was there.

Harry and Tom rushed back into the room that had the veil in it, and before they could say or do anything Voldemort apparated in with Sirius. Before they could do anything all of the Death Eaters and Order members did the same, and the battle continued in there, all of the soldiers following their leaders.

To Harry's surprise Sirius was conscious and standing healthily. Voldemort suddenly waved his wand and a barrier was erected between the Order members and Death Eaters, forcing them to stop fighting. "I want everyone to witness this. My spy in the Order, please announce yourself." Voldemort spoke loud enough for everyone to hear him, and all of the Order members looked around wildly.

Suddenly, to Harry's horror, Sirius stepped forward smirking and said loudly "I am the spy. I work for Lord Voldemort, and have always been loyal." He then proceeded to pull up his sleeve and show everyone proudly the Dark Mark that was on it.

Even Dumbledore looked shocked at this revelation, and Harry felt completely hollow. His godfather, the only link left to his parents along with Lupin, was a traitor. He couldn't bear to acknowledge this so collapsed to the floor in shock. He couldn't move, he couldn't hear, he couldn't even think about anything other than Sirius' betrayal. It broke his heart completely, and he stayed there in shock as Tom patted his back sympathetically, looking at Sirius with a furious look, knowing that he had tricked Harry into going there.

Suddenly Voldemort did something that was almost as strange as Sirius revealing his betrayal; he pointed his wand at Sirius and levitated him into the air with a cry and a confused look. "What are you doing? I'm your spy, I live to serve you my lord."

Harry shook his head at these words, feeling like they were a knife pushing further and further into him, however he did look up out of confusion and curiosity at what Voldemort was doing. Dumbledore had a frown on his face, and even the Death Eaters looked confused at this action. Voldemort didn't look at anyone but Sirius, and slowly spoke.

"I am in need of your sacrifice Black, otherwise I am unable to, ah, complete a certain task of mine. You are right, you were a loyal spy, however lately I have found reasons that make me not care about killing you, so goodbye."

Harry watched in horror as Voldemort waved his wand and seemed to absorb a glowing yellow energy from Sirius into his wand. Sirius immediately fell limp, seemingly dead, but that was not enough for Voldemort as he gestured with his wand and made Sirius fly at a high speed into the veil. Before he passed through the veil Harry, who was watching intently, noticed something that he wasn't sure if he had actually seen. Something seemed to fall from Sirius and land on the floor next to the veil, though it was too small for him to identify what it was.

Storing that away in his mind Harry suddenly came to the full realisation of what had just happened. Sirius, his godfather, albeit a traitor, had just died. He didn't know what to think, he didn't know whether he should have been grieving or laughing, he just sat there in stony silence and looked on. However Voldemort wasn't finished.

The barrier was still between the Death Eaters and Order members so they were not fighting. Dumbledore could have broken through, but the Order members were taking the time to recover so he did not bother, and there was the fact that he had used an anti-apparition charm so that the Death Eaters could not escape.

With a sharp jab of his wand Voldemort seemed to release the energy that he had absorbed from Sirius, except it was not just yellow but yellow and green. Voldemort had altered it in some way, but he didn't have time to think any more on this as the strangely altered jet of light flew through the barrier and hit Remus Lupin, causing him to drop the floor, and also destroying the barrier and continuing the battle.

Voldemort looked over at Harry with a smirk, and Harry suddenly felt an emotion that he had not felt since coming to the Ministry. Rage. Without another thought he ran towards Voldemort, however Voldemort did not stay there and wait for him. Instead he turned and actually ran in another direction, not out of fear but as an obvious trap that Harry did not even care about. When he passed the veil he knelt down and snatched up the small glass object that had fallen from Sirius and stowed it into his robes without another thought about it.

Looking back he saw Dumbledore slowly fighting his way towards him, and Tom running towards him, occasionally stopping to curse the odd Death Eater. Harry turned back and carried on running after Voldemort with an increased vigour, thinking of the worst and most painful curses that he knew.

He chased after Voldemort for a while, Tom a slight distance behind him, until eventually they were in the Atrium and Voldemort was nowhere to be seen. Tom finally caught up to him and, panting, spoke quietly.

"Don't – don't fall for his trap." he wheezed. "He wants – wants to kill you, and can easily do it." With that Tom sat down on the floor, still gasping for breath after chasing Harry through the Ministry. Suddenly there were two 'cracks' and Voldemort and Dumbledore appeared, seemingly in the middle of a duel. They were firing various curses at each other, and levitating various heavy objects so that they would slam into each other.

Harry heard movement behind him and turned to see five of the six people he had brought with him. Hermione was the only one missing, and he walked up to them out of worry.

"Hermione was hit with a really bad curse by Lestrange." Ron said, answering the silent question. "She'll be fine, just needs to get to the hospital."

Harry nodded, satisfied that everyone was safe, and looked over at the ongoing battle. Tom was still sitting down on the floor, also watching it, however they couldn't stay as spectators forever. Voldemort turned his eyes to Harry and quickly fired off blue curse before turning back to Dumbledore and continuing. The six of them put up a shield charm at the same time however, and the spell hit it and dissipated, leaving Harry untouched. Still angry and desperate to hurt Voldemort he began to walk towards them, stupidly feeling safe as Dumbledore was keeping him occupied.

When he got close enough Tom also got up and walked next to him, however the other five stayed where they were, knowing better than to intervene in something that could easily get them killed. Harry raised his wand, ready to fire a curse, however Voldemort beat him to it and fired the same blue curse at him.

The blue jet of light flew towards him and Tom, and because Voldemort was distracted by Dumbledore his aim was off. The spell instead hit Tom, passing through the shield charm he instinctively made to remain slightly weak but still a curse. It hit Tom, knocking him a step back only as most of it was dulled by the shield charm.

Harry looked next to him to see Tom glow blue all over, and realised what had happened. Tom, as usual, had charms all over his body that made sure no one other than Harry would notice him, and these charms had turned into a sort of thick layer. Voldemort's curse had hit that layer of charms and seemed to spread over it. Judging by the shocked looks from his five friends, especially from Ginny, and the fact that the duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort came to a halt as they stared at him as well, the charms had been destroyed and Tom was visible to everyone.

Voldemort looked like he couldn't be more surprised, however the look on Dumbledore's face was different. He did not look as shocked as all of the other people there, instead seeming surprised but at the same time looking like he had expected it somewhat. Harry wondered if he had suspected something like that, and it wouldn't have surprised him considering how suspicious Dumbledore had been all year, however that wouldn't explain why he was expecting to see Tom specifically.

"How are you here?" Voldemort demanded to know. "Are you an illusion?"

Tom shook his head, having already decided to reveal the truth. "No, a time traveller." Voldemort's eyes widened even more at this, and the same went for Dumbledore, who was surprised, and at the same time he looked like a puzzle he was struggling with had finally been solved. A riddle he was struggling with had finally been solved, literally.

Voldemort continued to look at his younger-self, seemingly no having any trouble believing it, before suddenly disappearing without making any noise. Dumbledore looked over for a second, but then looked back at Harry, an unreadable look on his face. "Why did you not tell me of this before, Harry? Why did you not reveal that a teenage Dark Lord was in Hogwarts? Do you know how many people were in great danger?"

Harry faced down, unable to look Dumbledore in the eye, however Tom patted him on the back once again, openly glaring at Dumbledore with an annoyed look on his face. He had never particularly liked Dumbledore, and was not happy that he was now making his only friend feel such guilt.

The other five stayed where they were, all with different expressions. Ginny was horrified, Ron was in shock, Neville was confused, Luna was smiling, and Daphne was simply surprised. They all came to the conclusion that Tom was Harry's friend for sure, even the ones who knew who Tom was, even Ginny.

Suddenly there were shouts coming from them, and Harry and Tom turned around to see Voldemort there. He had already sent a curse, and before Harry could even comprehend what was happening the curse hit him and dropped him to the ground. It was an extremely painful curse, making all of his limbs ache an incredible amount, to the extent that he was practically paralysed. He was aware of his own screaming, and watching through half open eyes as Voldemort disappeared.

Suddenly Dumbledore was in front of them. He raised his wand and pointed it at Tom, most definitely to restrain or stun him, however at the same time that Voldemort apparated behind Dumbledore Tom grabbed on to Harry's arm and they disapparated, although apparating seemed to dull Harry's pain to a certain extent.

They appeared at the edge of the wards, in the same place they had been when Tom had gone to Knockturn Alley and Harry had stowed away. Harry collapsed to the ground, unable to move, his whole body still aching from the unknown curse that Voldemort had used on him. While he was physically not doing anything as a result of it, there was a lot that he was thinking about. Mainly though he was thinking hard about how he had told Tom about his idea for him to stay, remembering Tom's reaction. For the first time he had managed to impress Tom with it, but he hadn't heard Tom's response yet considering they had been rudely interrupted. Tom seemed to have some sort of problem with it, however he also said that he couldn't see any fault in it so Harry was hopeful.

He was also thinking about Tom being revealed because of Voldemort. It was lucky that they had apparated away in time; otherwise Dumbledore would have restrained Tom and sent him back in time. He was hoping, if his plan for Tom to stay had worked, Tom could have lived in his time unknown, however that was not an option anymore as he had been discovered. And then he thought of Sirius' betrayal, and how much it had hurt him.

Harry could never have expected Sirius to be Voldemort's spy in the Order, or Voldemort's spy at all. He was the least most likely person that Harry could think of before, but it turned out that he was the spy after all. He then remembered the object that had fallen from Sirius, and remembered that it was some sort of glass vial, not that he could remember what it was. He just hoped that whatever it was it wouldn't break his heart even more.

Then he suddenly thought of the curse that Voldemort had used on Remus. It was as if Voldemort took Sirius' life energy and gave it to Remus, however he wasn't sure. Because Voldemort mentioned sacrificing Sirius for something he had a feeling that it was for the curse, but for the time being he had no idea.

While he lay there Tom knelt down and slowly ran his wand over Harry, checking for any serious injuries. After using charms on certain parts of Harry's body, he got up and stared into Harry's eyes for several seconds while Harry tried to stare back. He was certain that Tom was thinking about the idea he had proposed in the Department of Mysteries, although he wasn't sure what he was thinking about it. Then Tom opened his mouth and said something that shocked Harry to the core, and also made him extremely happy.

"I'll do it, your way for me to stay."

Harry was about to respond when there was suddenly a loud 'crack' from nearby, and looking over he saw Dumbledore blasting Voldemort away with his wand. Harry was terrified; he knew that Voldemort couldn't get into Hogwarts and so always felt safe there, however Voldemort must have got in the same way Harry got to Knockturn Alley with Tom; by grabbing on to Dumbledore as he apparated.

Tom ran over to help Dumbledore in fighting his future-self, while Harry lay there, watching silently, still unable to move too much as Tom's charms slowly healed him. He would be able to move within a few minutes, but for now he was virtually paralyzed.

Voldemort was fighting Dumbledore and Tom at the same time, quite an impressive feat. However it was clearly not especially easy as his face was almost scrunched up in concentration, and it was obvious that one wrong move equalled a lot of pain and broken bones for him, not that this didn't apply for his opponents.

As Harry was starting to move his arms and legs somewhat, while the charms healed him, Tom was suddenly thrown across by a spell, before landing on the floor next to where Harry was. He was groaning loudly and obviously in a lot of pain, however there wasn't anything that Harry could do to help him; he was more or less in the same predicament. Tom impressively managed to pull himself to his feet, however instead of joining the battle again he took the wise option of standing there.

After a few seconds of watching Dumbledore and Voldemort duel, Tom reached into his robe pocket and pulled out something that was hidden from Harry's view. He then proceeded to kneel down once more and shove the object into Harry's hands and mutter 'Look after this for me. I will need it, and not just once."

He then smiled and walked towards the duel again, this time deciding to fight from a distance so that he wouldn't be injured any more than he already was. Harry held the object up to his eyes and realised what it was: the tin can that was Tom's way of going back in time. Remembering Tom's words, he suddenly realised what they meant. Tom actually wanted to carry out Harry's plan, which was why he said that he would need it 'not just once'.

As he felt that he was almost completely healed, he shakily stood up and walked over to the other three. This was a big mistake; Voldemort noticed him immediately and apparated over to almost in front of him before waving his wand to erect what seemed to be a glittering barrier that kept Dumbledore out. However Tom had been fighting from a distance, and seeing as he was already running towards them when Voldemort apparated he was just within the parameters of the barrier.

As Voldemort turned towards him, sneering mercilessly, Harry felt terrified. He tried to pull his wand out of his pocket but was still moving slowly so by the time his hand was out Voldemort had disarmed him and was holding both of their wands. Before he could do anything with either one of them however Tom got behind him and actually jumped onto his back, jabbing his wand into it as the tip of it was lit up red.

Voldemort screamed loudly, the force of it almost popping Harry's eardrums. When the wands Voldemort had been holding fell to the ground Harry knelt down and picked them up. When Tom was finally shaken off Voldemort's flailing body, Voldemort waved his hand and his wand flew from Harry's hand into his, although Harry's wand remained. Harry stumbled with the force of the wandless spell, and suddenly the tin can that was Tom's portkey fell out of his pocket, and he just managed to catch it.

Dumbledore was still attacking the barrier with no success, so he simply had to watch what was going on, unable to intervene and hoping desperately that nothing would happen to Harry. As Harry grasped the portkey in one hand and his wand in the other, Voldemort fired a spell at him. At the same time Tom jumped back forward, presumably to try and push Harry away so that the spell would miss, however when he dived through the air his hand landed on the tin can in Harry's hand at the exact same moment that Voldemort's spell hit it, even though it was aimed at Harry's chest.

Time seemed to freeze in that moment. Dumbledore was frozen as his spells flew at the barrier, Harry was frozen in his body, only able to look, the same applying for Tom and Voldemort. Voldemort's spell had also frozen, now looking like a rope connecting his wand and him to the portkey. Harry felt the familiar tug behind his navel, except this time it was painful and seemed to drag him across something roughly.

The three of them were suddenly spinning through a pure white zone where there was nothing but them. It was like they were flying at light speed, however there was nothing else there to show them that they were even moving. None of them could even tell whether they were moving or whether they were motionless. After what seemed like hours of this a portal seemed to open and they were zooming towards it, until they finally went through and were spat out onto a rough ground, the ability to move returning to them.

Meanwhile, Dumbledore had managed to rush towards where they had seemingly vaporized, from his point of view. The barrier had disappeared as soon as Voldemort had, and when he got to the spot he found the ground unblemished. Scanning the area with his wand did nothing; they didn't leave any sort of trace behind. He was so busy trying to locate them however that he did not notice the figure that was coming up behind him, his wand aloft.

Important Notification: The poll I put up says that the majority want me to write a sequel instead of doing another part to this same story. Assuming the poll doesn't change before I post the epilogue, it will be that way. This story is marked as complete and it is apart from the epilogue which will be uploaded soon, hopefully around the same time as the sequel is posted. If, before then, the poll changes to a majority wanting multiple parts then I will change this story back to incomplete and continue, however the posting of the epilogue marks the deadline for this.

Author's Note: Most of what I wanted to say is above. It's not too difficult to guess where the sequel will be going, however I still won't say it outright yet. I hope that all of my readers will continue reading in the sequel, and that I won't lose any of them. I have it mostly planned out, and I hope that it will be good and enjoyable. Anyway, until the next time. Bye!
