Ch. 10

"So Bastila lives here?" Brianna asked Andrew as they walked down the sandy alleys of Anchorhead on the desert planet of Tatooine. "Doesn't seem to be the most ideal place to live does it. All the buildings are worn down, there is virtually no governing body present, and a majority of the population is living in poverty, but hey what would I know. I lived under the snow my whole life with an uncaring witch, so how bad can this place be. I will however, remain questionable on how friendly and caring the locals are." She commented as they passed by a Rodian that was yelling quite loudly at a Jawa about unfair pricing on some utility droids.

"Tatooine may not look like much my padawan, but it does have its redeeming qualities. It is small and unsuspicious, the perfect place for a Jedi to hide and go unnoticed; especially if that Jedi was trying to conceal a pregnancy."

"Do you think the Jedi Council knew Bastilla was still alive when she came here?"

"They probably suspected it. Whether they wanted to do anything with that knowledge is unknown to me. I'd assume the council would have looked very unkindly upon her and Revan's relationship, and wouldn't have wanted to be associated with them in anyway."

Brianna's pace slowed and her head sunk down to look at her feet. "I wonder if they would feel the same way about you and me, if they would look down upon us also."

Seeing that she was getting discouraged, Andrew stopped walking also and said to her "I believe they would have scorned us even if we weren't together. Me being an exile and you being the illegitimate daughter of a former Jedi puts us pretty low on the give a shit list."

Hinting at his sarcasm Brianna laughed. "You always know what to say to make me feel better don't you." She hooked her arm around his, kissed him on the cheek, and they started walking again. Eventually they reached a small dome like house on the far end of town by the giant steel gate leading into the sandy dunes. In front of the home was a small brown-haired woman diligently working on a swoop bike.

"How the mighty have fallen. When did you turn into a mechanic Bastila?"

The woman looked up at Andrew, chuckled a bit, and then went back to her work. "When I became a single mother and had to find some way of making a living for me and my son. Besides it occupies my mind and takes me away from the stressful things in my life for a little while. Now tell me, what drags you two this far out in the galaxy?"

Andrew mockingly acted surprised at Bastila's question. "What are we not allowed to come visit, or we're you expecting somebody else to come see you in the middle of the Outer Rim."

"No it's nothing like that. It's just knowing you Andrew, there's always multiple reasons on why you do certain things."

"Touche, you got me there Bastila. What we really came here for was to tell you that we're ready to go search for Revan."

The hydrospanner in Bastila's hand dropped to the ground, and she slowly stepped away from the swoop bike. "Are you really? You are actually going to go and search for Revan. I know you said you would, but I didn't want to get my hopes up."

"Come on now, you of all people should know how good my word is. When I make a promise, I intend on keeping it." A subtle grin crossed Brianna's face as soon as Andrew said that. "However, you are right about one thing. That is not the only reason why we are here. I had suffered an injury in my last fight, and my crew and I need a place to stay and rest for a little while. At least until we can all get our feet underneath us again."

Bastila's face turned to pure frustration, she slowly stomped over to Andrew and got nose to nose with him. " So you thought it would be a good idea if you simply invited yourself into my home for the next some odd weeks without even consulting me about how I felt about it first."

Without even flinching Andrew responded with. "Pretty much."

The brown-haired Jedi busted out laughing. "Ok that's fine with me. I'm more than happy to help out my friends, but where is the rest of your crew though?"

"Oh don't worry about them. They're exploring some of the local markets in town. We're probably not going to see them till later tonight."

"Well in that case, why don't you two go inside and get comfortable while I finish fixing up this bike."

Andrew and Brianna nodded and made their way towards the house. The inside of the home was small, the interior consisted of one center kitchen area that lead into two separate living quarters. From the walls hung many different objects and tools, ranging from cooking utensils, mechanical equipment, and one particular item that resembled the hilt of a double-bladed lightsaber. The two of them were so busy admiring the contents of the room they didn't notice a small boy coming out of one of the bedrooms. When he saw Andrew and Brianna, he immediately jumped back in surprise and hid behind the table that was sitting in the center of the kitchen. "Who are you people?"

"Hello Vaner, I'm Andrew and this is Brianna. We are friends of your mom's" the Jedi said to avoid further frightening the young boy.

Vaner peaked over the edge of the table and looked back and forth between them. "Are you going to be staying here?"

Brianna walked over to Vaner and squatted down to be eye level with him. "We would certainly like to for a little while, but only if it was alright with you. Me and my friend would not want to do anything that might make you uncomfortable."

Not breaking eye contact with Brianna, Vaner slowly stood up and said "I don't mind if you stay, as long as you don't take my bed."

Brianna chuckled at the sheer cuteness of the tiny child. "We wouldn't dream of it, but please tell me; how old are you again Vaner."

"He will be four next month." Bastila had just walked in with grime and sand all over her clothes and was drenched in sweat. Unlike back at Citadel Station, Bastila was now dressed as a hard worker, instead of an honored Jedi. Andrew found it almost humbling to see. "Forgive my appearance, I've been under that bike all day."

"You don't have to apologize. No matter how strong you are Bastila you are still human, and humans get messy. It's just the way it goes, besides it's actually kind of nice to see your natural look."

Bastila slightly grinned and brushed off the comment. "Whatever you say. Why don't you guys relax while I get dinner ready."

"You're cooking now to, Bastila you just keep surprising me."

The time seemed to pass by as Andrew and Brianna told Bastila about all of their recent travels and adventures. Before they knew it, two hours had gone by and they were sitting at the table finishing up dinner. "And that's when Kreia finally just gave in and collapsed."

Bastila was stunned by all of the stuff they had told her. "Goodness Andrew, I don't know how you were able to get through all of that without breaking down."

"I do." Andrew grabbed Brianna's hand, which was lying right beside him on the table, and then kissed her firmly on the cheek. "I had something that kept me going."

A sly smile appeared on Bastila's face. "So Andrew Masi has fallen in love I see. Now it all makes sense why you chose to only take her over here. You're a sneaky devil my friend."

"Yes it's true, I wanted to bring Brianna over here to show her off to you, however, that is only one part of my reasoning for coming here. Like I told you before I have many different motives on why I wanted to visit the lovely planet of Tatooine. Which reminds me, Brianna come with me." He stood up out of his chair and gestured towards the door.

"Where are we going sweetheart?"

Andrew tugged at her hand to pull her out of her seat and smiled at her. "I want to show you some of Tatooine's redeeming qualities." He dragged Brianna out the door and took her outside the walls of Anchorhead where only hunters, scavengers, and Sand People dared to tread.

They walked through many dunes, each one seeming more similar to the last. With every step she took Brianna became more and more doubtful on how special Tatooine could really be, at least until they reached the top of a tall hill and she caught sight of the planet's twin sunset. "Oh my goodness, is this what you were talking." Andrew simply nodded and smiled, while Brianna came up and hugged him. "It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen." The two lovers sat down together on the hill and looked out and admired the beautiful horizon in front of them. Brianna laid against Andrew's shoulder with her arms wrapped around his waist and watched the changing colors of the distant skyline. "It is truly amazing you for showing me this, I'm really glad you took me up here."

Brushing the hair out of her eyes, Andrew said "I love these moments, where everything is calm and there are no distractions or worries only peace." Andrew then peered down at Brianna who was still staring at the sky. "Brianna when we were on our way to Malachor you told me how you felt when you first saw me."

"That's right, I told you that from the moment you first spoke to me I knew you were different from Atris and my sisters. I said that you showed interest and compassion towards me, and that alone was what made me want to follow you and go where you go."

"And I'm glad you did, but the thing is it seems that I have neglected to tell I how I felt when we first met. I remember the very first thing you said to me; lay down your weapons and you will not be harmed. That was when I knew you were the one." Brianna turned bright pink from embarrassment of how she acted back then. However, Andrew put his arm around her and pulled her in closer to him. "Don't worry I'm only joking, the real reason I fell for you was that I saw how curious you were about things outside of your understanding. When you and I started talking about Jedi and the force your face would light up in a way that it did not when we discussed the Echani. Unlike your sisters, you were enjotable to be around. You were kind to me while I was at the academy. Not because Atris told you to, but because I believe you genuinely wanted to. Back then you made me forget about all the negative things that was happening to me. I wasn't concerned with Sion or Peragus, everything was calm just like right now. I treasure these happy times in my life, and all I want to do is share these moments with you, whether they are in the past, the present, or the future." Andrew's heart was pounding now, and before he even knew it he was holding the ring right in front of her face.

Brianna's jaw fell as she saw the sparkling diamond shine brightly in the light of the falling sunset. She slowly turned her head to look at the man who was gesturing the gem in front of her. "Andrew what is that?"

"It's what I want for us. I love you, and I have decided I'm never going to love anyone else. You gave my life purpose again, without you standing by my side I don't know where I'd be. Listen to me when I say this, I choose you; I choose you over Visas, over Mira, over Bastila, over all of them. There is nobody else, you are all I want and all I will ever need. Basically what I'm trying to say is. Brianna Kae will you marry me?"

She grabbed his face and kissed him "Yes." She kissed him again. "Yes." She kissed him one more time. "Yes. I love you, and I'm so happy that you feel this way. I never imagined I'd find someone whom I cared for as much as you." Tears began to come down her eyes, but they were not of sadness but of joy. "In this moment I want you to know that I'm ready to commit my entire life to you in every single way that I can." Being overtaken by her emotions Brianna threw herself at Andrew once again and kissed him as hard as she could. With this kiss she wanted to express all the feelings of love she had for the man who took her away from misery and gave her happiness. Her lips did not linger for long, but when they parted from his it was clear that her message had been sent.

Andrew pulled her in and held her close. "Brianna no matter what awaits us in the future, whether it's good, bad, or somewhere in between, I'll be happy, because I know you and I will be facing it together."
