Reyna stood at the edge of the hole that Nico had made. Scipio was anxious, so he kept trying to get Reyna to get on so they could leave. She finally gave in, not even caring anymore.
As she got on Scipio, she wondered how she was going to get the shield to Ares. Maybe she should throw it at him when she saw him. Well, maybe not the best plan she could come up with. Reyna thought she heard the faint sound of footsteps. Deciding that it was her imagination, she nudged the reins. Scipio didn't need much convincing, as he took to the skies. She stared at the lake as they passed.
They landed in Camp Half-Blood. Even though Reyna was probably needed in Camp Jupiter, Scipio seemed to know that's not where she wanted to go. She glanced around at the camp before making her way to Half-Blood Hill. Rachel watched her as she went by. Rachel followed her up the hill and sat with her at the top. Rachel put her hand on Reyna's shoulder. That was all it took to make her finally snap. She couldn't keep herself together anymore.
Normally, breaking down like this was unacceptable, especially in public, but these weren't normal circumstances. When Nico died, her happiness and hopes died with him. When the hole Jason had left behind started fill with Nico's presence, a bigger had been punched through. She was starting to wonder if the Fates found it funny that her heart now looked like Swiss cheese.
"Hey, it's okay. He deserved better than you crying. He would want you to."
Reyna nodded. "You're right," Her voice was shaky as she tried to control her tears.
"How are you going to get the shield to Ares?"
"I don't know," The shield was the last thing on Reyna's mind.
"I'll take it," said a soft, sweet voice. The pair turned to find Aphrodite standing there, in all her godly beauty.
Rachel stood and brushed of her jeans. She nodded to Reyna as she walked away.
"You did well. Ares and I both owe you a great debt."
Reyna scowled as she stood up. She handed the shield over to the goddess. Aphrodite looked Reyna over. Reyna had changed into a Camp Jupiter T-shirt, jeans and boots before the quest. Her hair was in a simple braid, though some of her arm hair was singed. Reyna doubted that the goddess of love would approve.
"That isn't the right outfit for a date, but so little time! I wish I could have picked an outfit, or have done something with your hair! Shame, I could have picked out a great one."
Before Reyna could ask why there was such little time, Aphrodite and Camp Half-Blood disappeared and was replaced be the streets of Rome. Reyna sighed; this was the exact spot where Nico took her. Oh, had it been 24 hours ago? To Reyna it had been years.
She was pulled out of her thoughts, when she felt a tap on her shoulder. Still in battle mode, she turned and pulled out her sword and left it at the person's throat. When she recognized his face her expression turned to shock as she dropped her sword. She balled her hands into fists while willing herself to remain calm.
"I thought you were dead," Reyna was surprised at how calm her voice sounded.
"I thought so too a few minutes ago. Thanks for waiting for me, by the way."
Reyna stayed quiet as emotions swirled inside of her like a hurricane.
Nico grabbed Reyna's hands in his own. "I tried to find you after I fell, but you were already gone. I wish you would have stayed, so you wouldn't have been feeling so abandoned. If you don't believe me, I'm truly sorry. I love you Reyna Avila Ramirez-Arellano," Reyna smiled at his use of her full name. "I don't want this," Nico motioned to the two of them," to end, because down there, I realized how great of a team we are. What better way to find out then through a quest?"
"I don't want to have this end either, but if you ever do that to me again, I will personally drag you out of Hades on your butt, and you're going to wish I hadn't."
"In other words, don't die," Nico laughed," Hungry?"
"Starved."
"Come on," Nico pulled her towards a restaurant," I think something interrupted our date."
They walked in and sat at a table. They ordered and waited. A couple of old ladies had been staring at them, and turned around to gossip in Italian. When Nico turned around and talked to them in Italian, Reyna chuckled at the confusion and alarm on their faces. He's so amazing when he speaks in Italian, she thought while sipping idly on her drink. I love you too Nico di Angelo.
That was the official rewrite of The
