I don't own Vampire Diaries or InuYasha, but I still hope you enjoy the new chapter.
Chapter 5: Hunt
Two days had passed since Vicky had been sent to the hospital. Liz looked over the papers again. The attack seemed to her like what the founders' diaries described, but there was still to much room for doubt. It was unnerving. And there was another thing. This new girl, Higurashi Kagome.
"Liz?" The door opened and Logan came in. "Do you got a moment?"
"Logan. Err, yeah, sure..." She put the papers back in the folder and on the side, accidentally dropping a photo. It showed a smiling asian girl in a white-green sailor outfit.
The news reporter picked it up and looked confused at his friend. "You're researching the young Miss Higurashi?" He looked at the picture, then back at Liz. "What did our newest town hero do to make you do that?"
She hesitated. "I believe she knows about vampires.",she said at last.
"What makes you think that?" If you would go by the look in his eyes, you would say he take it serious, but the rest of his body seemed to declare it absurd. "Did you caught her sucking blood? Or-"
"Kagome is no vampire!"
He held his hands up in the universal peace sign. "You found a new friend, hmm? I know, I know -calm down. I know she is no vampire. She does go to school, after all." He sat down on a chair across from Liz. "But it's not exactly."
"Listen, I know how the chances are." Liz massaged her left temple. "But ... Dr. Fell didn't had to do anything after Vicky came to the hospital. She said it was the best work she had ever seen. Logan, that girl is still in school!"
"I admit that is remarkable. But you and I kn-"
"She is better than a doctor and was looking for viven. On the second day she was here."
"That is no proof. She is a mou- miko. Didn't they use herbs? Listen, you can't walk up to her and ask and the council wouldn't like it either. So let it be." Logan gave a small smile. "Before you get yourself in problems."
The door went open. "There was another one."

The news coming out of the radio did not help the silence between the siblings, that hung thick in the car. They haven't spoken since the bone fire, even through they still had to stay together all day. Kagome sighed and parked in front of the school. She felt like she had to do something, say something to break this silence, but she couldn't think of anything. With the still fresh betrayal of their family, her mistrust had cut her brother deeply. And it was stupid, but the memories of that betrayal and the one in the past were fresh on her mind these days, making her mad at Souta's sensitivity. It was stupid and childish.
People stared at them even more than before, but kept their distant. Maybe home schooling would be good for both of them. Souta's 'lunches' had become more frequence lately. She would have to order from Sora again if he kept it up. So deep in thought, she barely noticed how her history teacher went on about the comet. "...it hasn't been over Mystic Falls for over hundredandfourtyfive years. Now the comet will be it's brightest during tomorrows celebration. Are we bothering you? Mister Salvatore? Miss Gilbert?" Kagome ignored the last part, shallowing hard. People may leave a celebration without telling anyone, it was normal. A vampire could just lead one away and... I have to find the vampire before tomorrow night.

Souta took in a deep breath and regretted it. There were to many people around here. He shook his head and walked on. For the first time, since he had turned into a vampire, he was in public without hid sister. She had went to the library. Not that he cared. Why would he? He was immortal -time to get independent. If he hung around, she would only call him a murderer again. He never killed anyone. But she, whose hands were socked in blood, judge him by his race. Like his mother and grandfather... Sighing, he sat down on a bench. In this area were less people. The boy drove a hand through his hair. Would Kagome leave him too? Even if not, she would die one day. Looking around, he never felt so alone.
Not far away, he saw Stefan sitting on a outside table alone. Following the older males glace Souta saw Matt and Elena walking beside each other. After short hesitations, he concentrated on them and listed in on their conversation. "They are keeping her over night, to make sure. But apparently, Kagome was right." Matt told the girl, then gave a bitter laugh. "You know what the joke is -she was clean. I mean, Vicki was clean and then his happened."
"But that is something good, or?",Elena said, clearly piercing those new facts together. "After she heals she will be okay-"
"Elena, I don't think..." He shook his head. "It surprised me and I'm proud and all, but I -I don't really think ..after what happened..."
"You believe she will go back to... Matt, she got away from them and we know that is hard..." Souta tuned out their voices for a short while. So Vicky took drugs? Was that the reason for the strange smell. He shook his head and looked around again. Stefan was still sitting there, but there was something strange -he must have lively train of thoughts. His face changed as if he was talking to someone, but he was still alone. He had even turned his back to Elena and Matt, giving Souta a better view of his face.
"...know. And now all this talk about missing campers."the boy heard Matt say. The vampire kept his eyes on Stefan while listening to Elena asking if Vicky remembered her attacker. "She said it was a vampire."the blonde answered and Stefan's head shoot up. Souta's eyes widen. Were he able to hear that?

Matt went into Vicky's room and the bed was empty. With grim face he looked around. She appeared directly behind him, making him jump a little. "Uwou... Vic." He became serious upon seeing her face. His sister was frozen in fear, starring in thin air. "Vicky ...Vic, it's Matt. Hey, what going on?" The second he touched her she started hitting and screaming. At first he tried to hold her down, but when that didn't work he ran outside the room, calling for a nurse.
He barely rounded two corners, when he crashed into someone. The person fell on the butt and glazed up to him. "What was that for?" Kagome growled. Matt pulled her to her feet and with him. "It's Vicky!"
"Which room?" the miko immediately started running beside him. She had the same look as before in her eyes like when she had treated to Vicky's wounds. They reached the room and found the brunette sleeping peacefully in her bed. Turning to Matt she asked with a questioning glace, she checked the other girl's wounds and pulse. "She seems fine."
Matt looked around confused. When he stepped in the hallway, he saw something. Kagome stepped beside him and followed his glace. "What did you see?" Without giving her an answer, Matt when down the corridors, the miko directly behind him. Vampires can manipulate minds -had the one that attacked Vicky come to erase his traces? She followed Matt to a blood donation room, where he looked behind a curtain. All that was there was an open window. He looked outside, while she knew that there was nothing to find. Footprints leaded to the window, but not away from them. The vampire wouldn't have used normal speed after leaving out of the window. "I gonna look at Vicky again."she told her class mate, making sure to remember the windows location, so she could search for hints later. She had to stop that thing.
-000-
Souta sat down on the couch with big eyes. He had run home after school, sending his sister a message. But while at it, he had followed Stefan to the hospital. Having waited outside, he had seen him jump out of the window and speed off. So there was no doubt in his mind. Stefan was a vampire like him. "Dammit... And what now?" He was curious, but walking up to him and say 'Hi, I am a vampire too -let's talk' was hardly an opion. And that he was at the hospital -was he there for Vicky or to steal blood bags? Should he tell Kagome? What the hell?! I am no baby! I am a vampire and I will learn to fight on my own! He walked out in the forest to look for some good sticks.
-000-
Hearing her brother in his room the next day, Kagome relaxed a little and sat down on the table, putting the library books in front of her. Surprisingly, this town had a lot of records about vampires -diaries and journals out of the time of the civil war. Could it be that someone here knows about vampires? she mused. Or are they just legends told to pass time? In either way, one of this books should hold the secret of how to kill vampires. She opened the first book and began to read. "'Today the new ward of the Salvatore came to town. Miss Kathrine Piers was in the company of two people. One, her black maid, was rather -' Okay, let's skip the political complain about black people. Marianna Lockwood, I do not like you. '... even more shocking...has fiance...Stef-' WHAT?!" She blinked, once, twice. There, black on white, stood one name. 'Stefan Salvatore'.
Kagome's mind went blank for a second before she graped her phone. "Elena!",she shouted as soon it was answered. "Stay away from Stefan! Do you hear me?! You can not trust him! Stay away from him!" She gave the book a dark look. There was no telling if today-Stefan was just named after an ancestor or the same one. But she wouldn't take chances.
"What do you mean?" Elena sounded mad and teary.
It made the miko's blood freeze. "What happened? Did he attack you?" No, then her new friend would be only afraid. They seemed so in love in school. This hurt... "Did he cheat on you?"
"Attack? Cheating? What the hell are you talking about?" She sounded shocked.
"There were some other girl, right?" Kagome didn't let herself be irritated. She knew that pain and she knew she had to keep the other girl safe. Sorry, Elena, but this...
Elena took a shaky breath. "No, it isn't like this. It's ... I met his brother, Damon. And we talked and... Apparently Stefan had some old love and isn't over it yet."
Scanning the page in the book, the asian girl found 'the runaway soldier who picked his younger brother and the girl up'. What were the chances? But luck were always on her side when destiny wasn't and this time it gave her the answers right away. Vampire brothers, the gods are out for me again. "Kathrine Piers.",Kagome answered. "She... Stay away from the Salvatore, you hear. They are more dangerous than you think."
"What- You can't tell me what to do!",she said and snapped the phone shut. Kagome had to suppress the urge to throw hers. Damn the modern times for their disbelieve in supernatural! Things were so much easier in the past.
"So he is a vampire and therefore a monster."a voice called from behind. Souta stood in the door, his eyes cold. "You don't know if he is the attacker. There could be another vampire."
She studied him for a second. "You already knew what he is."she growled. "You knew and kept it secret. People are dying! What is wrong with you?!"
"You have no proof! There could be another vampire!"
"Oh, don't worry, I will keep my eyes on Damon too -once I find out how he looks!"
"Damo- You are telling you knew of a other vampire and are still convinced it's Stefan! There are only enough attacks for one vampire to life off!"
"So one is innocent. So do you want me to stand back and watch how the other one goes one a killing spree?"
"It's not Stefan -he has a Yoruhi! Why else would he be able to go out at daytime? Would a miko give him that if he be evil?"
Kagome was quiet for a second. "The culprit will use the festival -I wait till then."
Souta gave a grim nod and handed her a stake.
-000-
When they arrived, it was dark and the people, that had gathered in the park, had light candles. Kagome took Souta's hand, more to calm her nerves than anything else. Bringing him with her to hunt a vampire -and seeing as they were brothers,- ,maybe even have to fight two, her nerves were on the edge. But it was either that or have him sneak after her she knew.
She looked at him. Souta wore black pants and a red shirt -colors that hided blood at first sight. Like her, he carried a bag full of home made wooden stakes on his side. He didn't seem afraid -as of the moment. His glace went over to where Stefan and Elena were talking and looked up to the comet.
Kagome gave the glowing rock in the sky only a short glace, then looked around. "You don't happen to be able to tell family ties by smell?"she whispered.
Her little brother shook his head. "Gomen, I can only smell the junkies out."
"Keep your ears open."
"Should we confront Stefan?"
"They're siblings."
They stayed till Elena went away and then followed Stefan for a while. He looked terrible. Kagome refused to fell guilty, it was safer for the brunette. That was till Matt came along. "Hey, did you see my sister?" he asked Stefan.
Eyes wide, Kagome pulled Souta in an side street without people. "He has Vicky. We separate an-" She suppressed a yell went Souta suddenly picked her up. "This is faster."he said and started running at vampire speed, checking for each junkie smell briefly before turning towards the one outside the park. It was atop of a building, but he first stooped inside the building, so the vampire wouldn't see him, and sat his sister down.
"No!"Vicky screamed above and a male answered: "You really gotta stop screaming."
Taking two stakes out, the miko pointed Souta to follow her quietly up the stairs. They moved as fast they could without making a noise. Souta couldn't carry Kagome, because she raised her reiki to prepare for battle.
"No!" -"Oh, I got you." -"No!" -"And now I gotta drop you."
Vicky continued to scream and cry, but the man -Damon wasn't taking to her anymore, but with someone else. Stefan? As they climbed the stairs they couldn't make out completely what they were talking about. When they reached the door to the roof, they heard Damon say: "Your choice of life style had made you weak. A couple of vampire tailor tricks -it's nothing compared to the power you could have."
With the door opening a bit, Kagome could see Stefan holding a sobbing Vicky, starring at the open wound on her neck. Behind her, Souta took a sharp breath. Ignoring him, she aimed to throw a stake at Stefan. Keep control.,she bet him in her mind.
"That you now need."taunted Damon, who Kagome was surprised to find was the guy from the bone fire. Stefan gave him a death glace while taking shallow breaths, but he smiled. "But you can change that. Human blood gives you that."
Stefan throw Vicky away from him, to the ground. Hands on his knees he rang for breath. Not knowing that someones aim shifted for him, Damon stepped a little closer to him. "You have two choices."he said and went on eye level. "You can feed and make her forget or you can leave her screaming vampire through the town square." He looked up before he stood up.
"That is what this is about? You wanna expose me?"Stefan asked, still down but his eyes were clearer.
"No! I want you to remember who you are!"
"So what?!"he stood up and looked his older brother in the eyes. "So I feed? So I kill? So I remember what it is like to be brothers again?" Upon receiving no answer, he said. "You know what -Let her go. Let her tell everyone that vampires have returned to Mystic Falls. Let them chain me up and drive a stake through my heart. Because at least I will be free of you."
There was silence. Damon blinked and gave a few unhappy laughs while going to Vicky. "Wow... Come here, sweetheart."
"No."Vicky cried weakly as he picked her up.
"It's okay."he told her, and after a look at Stefan, he started whispering in her ear and pet her hair. Whatever he was saying, it relaxed the girl. When he was finished he stepped back to the other vampire and pointed smiling at her.
"What happened?" Vicky groaned and looked around from her position on the floor. "Where am I? Arr, I ripped my stitches open."
"You're okay?" Stefan asked her.
"I took some pills, man." She got of the floor. "Man those were good." She came towards the door and opened it before the Higurashi siblings could react. "Um, hi." Vicky walked past them without really looking.
The Salvatores' wide eyes flew to them and the stakes in their hands. Kagome moved in front of Souta and gripped her stakes tighter. No one made a move.
"Well, hallo." Damon said and was in the next second in front of the miko, reaching for her neck. Instinctive Kagome send a reiki wave in front of her, before throwing a stake at him. He easily dodged it and attacked again. Stefan appeared between them. "Stop it!"
Damon stopped, looking at him ununderstanding. "They're hunters. Do I have to spell things out for you?" he said and attacked again. Souta speeded in front of his sister and threw as fast as he could. The stake missed, but Damon stopped for good. "Now this is interesting." He tilted his head as he watched Kagome push Souta behind her, while holding a blue-glowing wooden stake in front of her. "A vampire and a witch."
Kagome said nothing, but her eyes starred back in his.
"Everyone please calm down." Stefan tried, but kept closer to Damon and a keen eye on the stake. "I'm sure we can talk about this."
"Leave this town." the raven haired girl told Damon.
He, in return, gave a tried smile. "This my home, why would I leave."
"You're to loud. You get too much unwanted attention on all of us."
"I don't care..." He smiled. "I think I might stay a while. This town could use a bit of a wake-up call, don't you think." And suddenly he was gone.
Kagome put her stake down. "Coward!"she shouted after him, then sighed in relief. She looked at Stefan. "How can you let him hunt people?"
Stefan relaxed with the stake gone. "I got no choice.",he admitted. "He is stronger."
"And alone." She gave him a meaningful glace.
Studing both of them, he straightened up. "Why are you after Damon? Why did you come to Mystic Falls?"
Hesitating for a second, Kagome said: "Two months, that's how long Souta has been a vampire. We came here to train him."
"And made friends."Souta added, coming out from behind. "We want to protect them."
"I help you."the older vampire nodded slowly. "But there is nothing we can do against Damon. For now."
Well, that's it for now. Please tell me what you think. Updating soon.
