In "The Hunger Games" It is mentioned several years prior to The Hunger games that one girl's token was a small wooden ball, which she dropped while on her starting plate on accident, setting off the mines around her, killing her. It was no accident.

Peeta attempts to befriend Katniss. What he doesn't know is that their friendship will cost him dearly. The events leading up to the iconic scene when Peeta gives Katniss burnt bread, and the consequences that follow it. Kinda AU.
