Chapter 6

Shaw took one look at the dragon girl, and gave a sickly, charming smile. "Athena, it's good to see you again. You're as beautiful as always."

The mutants around Athena all turned to her with shock, while Athena let out a menacing growl. Shaw smirked at her before turning to the other mutants. "Good evening. My name is Sebastian Shaw and I am not here to hurt you."

At that moment, a soldier decided to come out. "Azazel," Sebastian said. The red mutant disappeared and reappeared behind the soldier, killing him.

"My friends," Shaw started, getting everyone's attention again. "There's a revolution coming. When mankind discovers who we are, what we can do, each of us will face a choice." He looked pointedly at Athena when he said this.

"Be enslaved," the brunette continued looking across everyone. "Or rise up to rule. Choose freely, but know that if you are not with us, then, by definition, you are against us. So, you can stay, fight for the people who hate and fear you; or you can join me and live like kings, and queens."

Shaw held out his hand, and for a moment, no one moved. But, Angel detached herself from Athena's side and took his hand. Shaw led her to the courtyard after exchanging some words between Angel and the others. Shaw then turned to look into Athena's now gold eyes.

"Athena? Are you coming?" When she didn't move, he just smirked. "Why stay? It's obvious that you haven't completed your assignment."

"What?" everyone chorused.

"Athena, what's he talking about?" Alex asked.

Athena's breath was caught and she couldn't look at anyone. She closed her eyes, and let her bangs cover them.

"Oh, she didn't tell you?" Shaw smirked. "Her father gave her an assignment to kill the telepath and Erik. Of course, I was the one who requested the job and for Athena to carry it out."

The dragon girl opened her silver eyes when she felt Raven leave her grasp. The look on all of their faces held hurt and betrayal; she felt terrible. Knowing that she would have to face the truth, she still chose to stay with them.

"So, are you coming?" Shaw asked again. The redhead mutant glared defiantly at him; her eyes bleeding back to their gold color. "So be it, Azazel."

Azazel appeared in front of the group, grabbed Athena, and transported them across the room. Without hesitating, the red mutant stuck his weapon through Athena's stomach.

Athena gasped as pain exploded though her abdomen. Even Raven let out a small squeal at seeing this. Azazel removed his weapon and returned to Shaw's side. Athena still remained standing, however shakily as her eyes slowly bled back to their original silver. She turned her head to look into each of the other mutant's eyes, and sent a single mental message.

'I'm sorry.'

Then, her world turned dark.

A/N

Hey everyone! Sorry this is so short, but I wanted it to end in a kind of suspense. I've also been recently having a problem with being motivated. So, do me a favor by reviewing this chapter. It helps me going! Thanks!
