Chapter 36: Gerudo Desert
The idea that slave Link had was brilliant. When I had seen that the bridge was down, it didn't surprise me in the slightest because of how bipolar the gerudo could seem at times. I did once mention that the gerudo were a tribe of women when discussing their attitudes with the other two Links. However, slave Link didn't say anything, apparently lost in thought, while future Link mumbled something about 'PMS'… whatever that was. Either way, they were both aware of the situation at hand.
The simple fact that the bridge was out was a red flag indicating that the gerudo wanted to be left alone. However, the three of us simply couldn't wait for them to calm down. Si, we continued trekking through their land, past the amazingly old gerudo fortress, and up to approaching the gate that lead to the famous 'haunted wasteland'. I had figured that if we approached that area, then some gerudo would stop us. After all, Zelda gave us the letter, but no directions. Obviously, she had wanted the gerudo to take us to wherever we needed to be.
However, as soon as we got close, a whistle sounded, meaning that at least one gerudo had seen us. Before long, about five very angry-looking women were standing around us with spears that were tipped with backwards scythe blades (the traditional weapon of the gerudo). All three of us put our hands up and one of the gerudo, who was dressed differently, so she must've been the leader of that little group, walked up to us and demanded an explanation. All that I could think of was to give her the letter that Zelda had wrote.
After at least skimming it, this gerudo ordered that the three of us follow her while the others urged us on, using the sharp ends of their weapons. Eventually, she lead us to some stables that had about one horse for each gerudo that was there. She then ordered three of the gerudo to mount their horses and for the three of us Links to each ride just behind each one of the three gerudo. We followed her orders and she gave me back the letter while telling the other gerudo where to go. The place was apparently a secret because she whispered it so quietly, that even our sensitive hylian ears couldn't catch it.
The next thing I knew, my vision was cut off by something and, but the sounds of it, the other links had their vision cut off, too. Thankfully, before anyone could really react, the lead gerudo spoke up, telling us that the place that we were supposed to go was so secret, that we had to wear blindfolds on the way there. I felt like it made sense, all things considered. After all, most of the desert was sacred land to them. So, all that I could do was hold onto the gerudo who was steering the horse and just wait as the horses all galloped off…
I couldn't even gauge the time that we had spent riding because the only sounds that I heard were the galloping of the horses and the sandy wind. When we stopped, though, I could feel the gerudo women's hand on my collar, pushing me forward, wordlessly telling me to walk. The way she held it made it very evident that she was pretty pissed off about the three of us being allowed there. Therefore, I did exactly as she wanted and I kept my mouth shut. Thankfully, the other Links did the same, which wasn't all that surprising, knowing them (especially slave Link).
All of a sudden, the blindfold got removed and light flooded my eyes. After taking a few seconds to blink it away, I looked around to see that I was in some sort of building that had some really odd runes on the walls. I turned around to see a raging sandstorm outside and three very pissed off gerudo women glaring at me. Suddenly feeling nervous, I turned back around to face the direction that they had originally set me in. While turning around, I caught a glimpse of the other Links right beside me.
Suddenly, I felt a hand on my back violently push me forward a step and, out of my peripherals, I saw the other Links get pushed as well. I took a glance back at the gerudo who had pushed me, but she was still giving me the death glare. Obviously, they weren't allowed to go any further, but the three of us were supposed to. I then saw slave Link start walking further along, so both future Link and I followed suit. As soon as we turned a corner and lost sight of the gerudo, we all let loose a tiny sigh and continued on.
It was time for the next dungeon…
Hmm... it seems that in between each exciting event, there has to be a three chapter long bridge in order to connect the events. Oh well, the story couldn't really do without them, no could they? Well, next up is the dungeon and I'm hoping to hear all of your guys' guesses as to what the next item will be (in a review, of course)... but I can almost guarantee you that you're not not going to get it right. Bear in mind that I already have it written, so I'm not going to be a jerk and rewrite it if you guess correctly. :P Although, you'll have to wait for next week until you get your answers! XD I hope to see you all then again! :D
