Chapter 39: Cape

Nothing. There appeared to be absolutely nothing inside the treasure chest. The other two Links stepped back and sighed, but I couldn't believe it. I stuck my hand in the chest and moved it around in disbelief when, suddenly, I actually felt something! I couldn't see it, but I could feel it. It had a velvety feel and something about it felt like magic.

The magic would account for it being invisible. Therefore, I grabbed it and pulled. As it moved, I could see the air that it supposedly took up moving in an odd way. I could also hear the sound of fabric moving, which also caught the attention of the other two Links. Future Link seemed to figure it out right away, but slave Link was still really confused.

After a little while, we discovered that if I held it out in front of me, then it turned me invisible from that viewpoint and there was easily enough of this fabric to wrap all three of us from head to toe in it. So, I gained the ability to vanish from sight, making the three of us agree to call it the 'vanish cape'. The only problem with this thing was that it only worked when I was holding it because of the magic that I possessed. Although, it would turn the other two invisible if I was holding it at the same time, so there was no need to worry when it really came down to it.

Thus, with this new cape in hand, we set off for the further depths of this place. We found our very quickly that most of the traps didn't activate when we were invisible, so we made most of our progress like that. Every so often, a wall would need bombing, a target would need shooting, or there would be a hard-to-reach ledge that the hookshot could handle, but the cape was the most useful. That was until we had to separate.

From what we could tell, there was a ledge that only slave Link could reach using the hookshot. On this ledge, there was a crank that apparently lifted one side of an odd platform by chains. The thing was that we had to find the other crank for the other side. About ten minutes passed before we found the other one behind a bombable wall. Therefore, future Link stayed there in order to operate the crank and I climbed onto the platform so that I would be carried up.

On the way up, I donned the vanish cape and as soon as I got up there, I was glad that I did because there were at least five beamos waiting in ambush! All that I could do was sneak by then very quietly and look for some sort of thing that could help the other two to meet up with me. Eventually, I came across a step-on switch that actually created a stairway that let the other two reach me. I told them about the beamos and future Link decided to take it upon himself to blow all of them up by running over to where they were and rolling a bomb (bowling style) into the middle of them.

When the smoke cleared, none of them were left. I was about to sigh in exasperation at future Link's willingness to just go ahead and do that, but I stopped when I noticed exactly what had taken the bomb's place. It was the big key! I then heard slave Link ask future Link if he had known that we would have gotten the big key by doing that. After future Link answered that he did not, I shrugged and went pick up the key.

About three more hours of just wandering around, avoiding traps, and solving puzzles went by before we finally came across the door that had the big lock on it. After taking a big breath in order to clear my head, I unlocked the door and the three of us stepped inside. What we saw was a huge circular room that had massive amounts of sand filling it. In fact, there were even a few steady streams of sand falling from the ceiling… although they didn't seem to be affecting the level of the sand that was in the room at the time very much. A few steps were taken forward before a gigantic creature suddenly burst out of the sand! The first thought that ran through my mind was something along the lines of 'we have to fight THAT?!'

Okay, you absolutely can not lie about whether you saw that coming or not. I KNOW that nobody saw the vanish cape coming! The vanish cape was one of a few items that you got in A Link to the Past by exploring the overworld. Totally not required to beat the game, at all. I think it was either in the graveyard or by the sanctuary (not sure if in the light or dark world, but oh well). Now, on to the boss. anyone care to guess what it might be? Leave your guesses in the reviews and I'll see you all next week with the results!
