Chapter 44: Enough with the Sand
As long as we wore the earrings, we were safe. To be perfectly honest, I had completely forgotten all about them. Heck, I even slept with them on! After all, they were pretty small and surprisingly light. I had heard girls complaining about heavy earrings before, so I knew that either they were just wimps, or the people who mad these were just really good. Then again, in seeing some of the other earrings out there, even I had actually cringed… so it was probably the latter.
Either way, we traveled back to town rather slowly. Most of the time, we were shaking excess sand out of our clothes. How so much of it actually got in there was beyond me. Then again, sand was like that. Eventually, it got to the point where we decided to just wash all of it out… although that didn't even work.
After about two hours of sitting by a river, washing the sand out of our clothes and selves, we just gave up. We won against a giant centipede when we couldn't even understand each other, we won against a giant robot, a freaking dragon, and a giant fish without having shields, and we had recently won against a giant, possessed ice sculpture and a sand shark-snake-thingy, but we couldn't win against there being sand in our clothes! What the fuck?! I mumbled it all off and, after a pause, all three of us began to laugh.
Frankly, I knew that it would all be gone eventually, but we were still annoyed about it. It seemed as though I was the most annoyed, but I figured that that was because of how comfortable people of my dimension were. Slave Link was, obviously, the least annoyed by it. After all, he had endured far worse during his time as an actual slave. That, I knew partially from experience.
Yet, in going back there, the earrings, of all things, granted us safety. If I wouldn't have known how, then I would've thought of the idea as insane. However, at that point, I was just glad to even have the earrings in the first place. They may have been considered girly back at home, but I didn't really care because of how important, yet unnoticeable they were. However, what I couldn't stand was the make-up that was used to disguise ourselves.
When we finally got back to Hyrule Castle Town, we started to take the usual route back to knight Link's house in order to get make-up. That was until I mentioned that if we had a cape that could make things completely disappear from sight, then we just had to use that. This immediately struck knight Link, while slave Link seemed pretty happy about that idea, even though he never put his opinion into anything. Knight Link thought about it for a little while before whipping out his vanish cape, draping it overtop of slave Link and me, and (while still holding a corner of it in his fist) leading us off to the castle.
