Chapter 51: Sparring With the Masks
When I suggested that we try to spar with our masks, future Link pointed out the fact that the other hylians were watching. I told him that I knew that and then I reminded him that we had told them about the masks. He didn't seem to remember, but I certainly did. Afterward, he just shook his head and pulled out his zora mask. I could hear the other hylians gasp in anticipation, which future Link acknowledged as me being correct, so he simply accepted it and put on his mask.
Slave Link and I both put our respective masks on and, after the very painful transformation, in our places stood a deku, a goron, and a zora. Because we had discussed the abilities of each, I was fairly sure of how each of us should either spar or train. Slave Link would work on his dodging and maneuverability, given his smaller body, while future Link and I would straight-up spar with hand-to-hand combat. The way that this would work was that, every so often, future Link or I would send a hit in slave Link's direction.
This worked perfectly until I put so much effort into one of my punches that my fist actually lit on fire! Sure, I knew that that could happen, but I had never actually done it before. I immediately heard a chorus of 'woah's coming from both of the other Links and from the other hylians that were watching us. I had to apologize for it as soon as I could because of how sensitive both zoras and dekus were to fire. Heck, I could've killed them if I was unlucky just then!
Thankfully, they understood and future Link stated that it was alright. After all, if I could do a freaking fire punch, then we were pretty much set in his eyes. I knew that he was obviously still in awe and had completely forgotten about my fire arrows for the time being, so I simply rolled my eyes and was about to back to sparring. However, Zelda seemed to pick right then to walk right on in.
"Hey boys, I've finished improving your items, so you can ju-" She stopped mid-sentence, realizing that there was a goron, a zora, and a deku scrub in our places. Obviously, she had never seen any of these three creatures before, so it made sense that she was surprised. However, once the shock wore off, she shook her head and seemed to remember about our masks and she continued with a slight giggle to her voice.
"Yeah, I'll just take you to where you can pick up your upgraded items… AFTER you return to normal, that is." She said very sternly. Immediately, slave Link removed his mask and both future Link and I followed soon after. Upon seeing us back to normal, she whispered something to herself that I hadn't caught and then turned around, walking away. The other two Links and I both followed her and we heard a chorus of 'aww's coming from the other hylians (some disappointment at us leaving and some with a bit of a different tone that I couldn't exactly place) as we left. However, I decided to pay it no mind and just focus on the fact that our original items had been upgraded! I couldn't wait to find out what Zelda had done with them!
So, yeah... humor. Do you guys like the running joke of the sand? Please tell me in a review. Also, that's not how I feel about fans. I just figured that that would basically be what happened if a house full of Zelda fans were told that Link was coming and he actually came! XD Link just doesn't seem like the kind of guy to enjoy a bunch of fans. He would be flattered and appreciative, but he wouldn't really be like all that eccentric... anyway, I'll see you all in the new year with more chapters! :D
