Chapter 4:
With Kendall:
Kendall stared at the clock ready for the day to end hopefully he could talk to Amber before things got even worse. Hopefully James would let him just talk to her, he sighed and looked around the room. He needed a distraction and he knew it. Having lost a cousin from something like this he couldn't lose one of his best friends this way. He looked out the window and just watched. The bell rang and he stood and started to look for the guys.
With Amber:
Amber just walked out of her class when she heard giggling. She sighed and kept walking hoping they wouldn't follow her. She didn't want to deal with Tiffany and her friends right now. Luckily she ran into Logan.
"Hey Logan." She said
"Oh hey Amber, let's go the others are probably waiting on us." He said and smiled at her.
Amber forced a smile and walked with him not really trying to have a conversation. They finally made it to the front of the school and James was already there.
"Hi James." Amber said at her brother.
He smiled and hugged her.
"Why are you hugging me this time?" She asked
"See before you where the one giving hugs now I can't." James said as he let go of her.
"Yes before middle school." She said and laughed
Kendall and Carlos walked up to them.
"Ready?" James asked
The guys nodded and they began to walk to James and Amber's house. Amber put her headphones in knowing the guys would talk about something stupid. They looked at her and noticed that she looked off but not sad. Kendall tried not to scream at his friends that she clearly wasn't happy. He held his tongue and looked away.
"She looks better." James commented
"From when?" Logan asked
"This morning she looked lost and confused. I just didn't know what to say." James said as he glanced at his baby sister.
Kendall looked at his feet, feeling guilty from not trying to tell James what he thought his sister was doing. The guys started to talk about some stupid game and Amber rolled her eyes as she took out her headphones. Kendall noticed but kept the conversation going. She started to fall back a bit and the guys noticed. Logan and Carlos glanced at Kendall and then James.
"I'll talk to her." Kendall said hoping he could get through now.
James nodded and glanced back at his sister as Kendall back tracked to her.
"So what's wrong with little Amber?" Kendall asked
"Long day just tired." She mumbled
"Ready for a nap?" He questioned trying to get her to relax.
"A bit, I have homework to do though." Amber told him
"You are always doing work." Kendall teased
"I can't fall behind. I just can't." She mumbled and her voice cracked toward the end.
"Is there something you want to tell me?" He asked and put an arm around her.
She looked away and shook her head no.
"I know what you're doing." He mumbled hoping she wouldn't hear because that wasn't how he wanted to tell her.
She got even tenser but didn't say anything. He sighed and looked down on her. This was going be something they would have to get through together she clearly didn't look ready to talk about it, so he was willing to be there for her.
At the Diamond House:
They had walked in and James and Amber's mom was already home.
"Mom you're home early." James said surprised
"I am and I'm guessing that I have the boys tonight?" She questioned
They all nodded and she gave the kids all a small smile.
"Don't break anything this time." She said and made her way to her office.
The guys went up to James' room and Amber went to her room and started on her homework. She worked on her math homework staring at the problem getting more and more confused. She was getting mad with herself knowing she could get it if she stopped messing up. She sighed and put her pencil down. It would help if she didn't feel like her whole life was a fuck up. Think back the near death experience should have just been her death. The nagging feeling was coming back and all her friends where just down the hall. This was something she couldn't do tonight since it seemed like they would be staying the night. She sighed it was gonna be a long night.
