The next day had found Harry and Ginny sitting in the garden of the burrow, or at least what had been the burrow. The house was in shambles. The magic had been destroyed and as magic was the only thing holding up the building it had fallen.
Grimald place had been searched by both the ministry and death eaters after Kreacher had fled to Hogwarts. Hermione, with Bill's help, reinstituted the wards and a new secret keeper had been put in place. Molly, Arthur, Ginny and Harry went to Andromeda's for the time being, Charlie was with Bill and Fleur and Percy went back to his small flat. Kreacher was installed in a bedroom at Shell cottage and told to rest for a few days. he was not a young elf and the past year had taken a toll on him. Harry promised that they would be together as soon as the clean up at the burrow was done, until then Kreacher was to rest and let the humans take care of him.
The Ministry was a mess. Arthur and Percy were gone most of the day and well in to the night. Some nights Arthur stayed at Percy's flat, just one block from the ministry because he was just too tired to make it to Andromeda's place.
George, Ron and Hermione were staying at WWW in Diagon Alley. Ron, Hermione, Charlie and Charlie worked the first week just to make the flat and store livable then they began inventory and re-stocking.
Gringots was trying to hold off a money panic. Witches and wizards who had not been able to access their money during the reign of terror were now flocking to the bank to pull it out. Bill and the goblins had their hands full.
So it was left to Harry, Ginny and Fleur to sort out the mess at the burrow. Currently they were on a lunch break. "Well we had better get back to work." Harry stood up and offered his two hands to Ginny and Fleur. Fleur was certainly proving to be no delicate French flower. She was working just as hard to remove the debris layer by layer.
Even with magic it was hard work. They were trying to save as much of the family possessions as possible. The first discovery had been gruesome. The Ghoul had been killed by the collapse of the building. Harry had dug him a grave near the apple orchard and buried him there.
The garage was relatively unharmed. So they were placing what they found in there. The rest was stacked for removal. Kingsley had promised that a crew would be there soon to help with the rebuilding. Harry and Ginny had secretly met with Bill at Gringots to assure the money to rebuild. By the end of the first week they had all the rubble cleared and all the families possessions stored.
The next week necessitated a break. The mass funeral for the dead of Hogwarts was to be held. Harry and Ginny clung to each other for strength.
Andromeda asked Harry to speak for Lupin. He also spoke for Sirius, with Andromeda's help. George and his father spoke for Fred and in doing so George began to come up from his deepest grief.
After the service was over and each body interred in their plots they all stayed the night in the devastated castle. Taking solace from their shared loss.
Charlie, promising to be home more often, then returned to his dragons, Molly and Andi began to heal while sharing the care of little teddy. Harry, Kreacher, Ginny and Fleur began the cleanup of Grimald place. The MOM arraigned for a magically enchanted bin to be placed out front. The muggles knew nothing of the restoration going on next door.
It was Fleur who asked Kreacher if he knew of a way to get Mrs. Black's portrait off the wall, ducking his head as if in shame, he confessed he did. If he was afraid Harry might be angry he had not removed it earlier he was wrong.
Fleur, Ginny Harry and Kreacher started at the basement and began cleaning. Harry turned half of the basement in to Kreacher's room. They had cleaned it until it shined. Centuries of dirt and mildew had been removed. He offered Kreacher any of the black family mementos he wished for his room. So the portrait and the elf heads resided there now. Most of the rest of the gruesome items were quietly destroyed by Fleur and Ginny.
The rest was transformed in to a muggle type gym. Harry and Ginny knew they were hopefully headed toward careers that would require good physical conditioning, weights and conditioning machines were placed around the room.
The Kitchen became a thing of beauty. It gleamed and sparkled through the now clean windows. Next to it the old butler's pantry was turned in to a lockable potions lab, Ginny had been her Dad's willing helper so it was a joy to work along side her to remove the door from the pantry to the dining room and build a new wall there. They then created an arch that essentially made it and the kitchen one big room. The dining room benefited from the light streaming in for the kitchen windows and it made the otherwise cramped kitchen feel spacious.
Harry sat cross-legged on the floor surveying the almost empty parlor. He had just returned from dumping the tattered dirty drapes in the bin, it had taken most of the morning to rid them of doxies. He was contemplating cleaning the ornate window when Fleur spoke up. "Eet would be a shame to lose dis tapestry, thee work on it is so fine, I wonder eef we can clean it and replace thee plazes dat 'orible woman blasted off?" It turned out that there was a way to repair and clean it, Harry sent it to Belgium, the home of both muggle and magical weavers. A representative combed the black family records, with his assistance the blasted names were returned and, at Harry's request, the Weasley, Potter and Lupin family trees were added. Six months later a now clean work of art graced the walls of a warm cozy setting room.
They tackled the library after the parlor. Luckily Hermione returned from Australia just in time to help with it. They removed the more dangerous books to the MOM. The others were cleaned and re shelved on the repainted bookcases. The grit and grime on the fireplace had been scrubbed off to revel a beautiful Victorian pastoral scene. The heavy desk had been sold and a smaller one bought. Two comfy couches and lots of lighting had been added.
The cleaning, scrubbing and purging continued until the whole house shined. The top floor became a efficiency flat for Hermione and Ron. Hermione planned on returning to Hogwarts to take her 7th year. Ron was going to help George get WWW back up and running. They knew being apart would be difficult but they also knew that their love was strong enough to weather anything.
The magical construction crew was amazing! The Burrow was done by Ginny's birthday. And what a birthday it was! The Burrow shined stronger, straighter and filled with just as much love.
The magical clock had been found busted to pieces. Bill had taken it to his in-laws to see if they could find someone on the continent who could fix it.
At Ginny's birthday party he unveiled the clock, good as new. Three new hands graced it's face, Fleur, Hermione and Harry. Fred's hand was beautifully framed in the same wood as the clock case.
Shortly after Ginny opened her presents Ron and Hermione sprang a surprise on Mr. and Mrs. Weasley. Ginny, Fleur, Bill , George, Harry and Hermione's folks had help with and kept the secret.
Ginny, Hermione and Fleur disappeared in to the burrow. Shortly after so did Hermione's folks. Suddenly the yard filled with laughing friends from school. Harry and Bill waved their wands and the decorations turned from birthday to wedding.
Bill pinned a corsage on to his mom's robes, then led her to the front of the chairs. The minister of magic stood smiling at the front. Ron, with George as his best man, arrived up front. Harry hurried to join them.
The music started and Mrs. Granger was escorted to a chair in front. First Fleur then Ginny came down the isle in simple summer dresses.
The music changed and Hermione, on the arm of her Dad, glided down the aisle. She looked stunning in a simple Georgian style of dress. Her hair loosely pulled back and a barrette of daisies holding her veil. She carried daisies and red roses.
The service was short and very sweet. When everyone emerged from the ceremony area they were greeted with a desert feast. Kreacher outdid himself. The only disturbance was when Aunt Muriel complained loudly that no one had let her know so Hermione could have worn her tiara.
Though shocked at the surprise, Molly and Arthur were thrilled that Hermione was officially their daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Granger couldn't be happier either. They truly liked Ron and his family. They knew their daughter would be loved all her life.
The DA met and, with the Weasley's help, re built Luna and her Dad's cottage.
Harry Ginny, Hermione, Ron and many of their friends and family had to interrupt their rebuilding efforts over that summer to testify at various trials. Lucius Malfoy disappeared in to the seedy underworld leaving his wife and son to face the wizengot on their own. Harry was instrumental in getting light sentences for both. After they paid their fines and served their time they closed Malfoy manner and moved to France for a new start.
Umbridge was sentence to a ridiculously short period of time behind bars because she hdid not have the dark mark, when she was released she drooped from sight.
September 1st found Ron and Harry waving off their sweeties. Every night, after the girls left, they studied for their NEWTS, Ron worked in the Potions lab and Harry worked out. During the day Harry helped Ron and George restock WWW. The orders were pouring in. It seemed that the whole world wanted to laugh.
In December Harry and Ron took their NEWTS and did very well. Molly was over the moon. Arthur puffed out his chest and told everyone about how well "his boys" had done.
Christmas found everyone back at the burrow. They all felt the absence of Fred. But the joy of a Christmas with out fear lifted them all. Teddy was the star of the show. Harry got him a small toddler broom for when he was older. Ron, with Kingsley's help had gone to the little house where Harry's folks had died protecting him and gathered up all the personal possessions. Andi, Fleur and Molly had spent the winter months cleaning and restoring pictures and books. The family presented all this to a gob smacked Harry. All was subdued until Bill and Fleur announced that they were having a baby.
Harry had started having Teddy overnight every so often to give Andromeda a break. the small room next to his he turned in to a room fit for a magical prince. Ron and he turned out to be dab hands at caring for the little tyke.
January found the girls back at Hogwarts and Harry starting Auror training. George had decided to buy the old joke shop in Hogsmede and Ron was busier than ever cleaning the years of neglect and disposing of some merchandise that was past it's prime.
Evenings found them both worn and draped on comfy sofas in the parlor. "It's a good thing the girls are at school mate." Ron said through a yawn. "I doubt that either one of us could carry on a decent conversation." As if to prove his point Harry just grunted.
Bill had seen to Harry's vaults for him and it was not until after the first of the year he ventured in to Gringots and to his new vault. That Harry was floored would have been an understatement. He had seen the ledger sheets detailing the gold and silver from the Blacks and Potters combined but had not really paid attention to the other things listed. All the books he had removed to Grimald place for Hermione to go through when she returned from school. Bill had gone through everything and removed any cursed items. Some things Harry donated or sold, George and Ron had started a charity for children in Fred's honor and all profits from the sale of the vault items were given over to it. Harry wanted to hire Bill as his personal money manager, but could not because of Bill's contract with the bank so he turned to the woman that raised a large family on little money knowing Molly would get the most from his money and help him do the most good. She argued he wanted to pay her too much but. at last was talked in to taking a percentage of the profits she was able to generate with investments. She called it her nest egg. Andi demurred when Harry wanted to turn all of the Black's gold over to her but, after long discussions with Molly and Harry agreed to half with Harry setting the other half up in a trust for Teddy.
They are all back at Hogwarts, it's been a year. Even Fleur is here, heavily pregnant with her first child. Bill had tried to talk her out of going, the doctor had tried also, but to no avail. It was the angriest he had seen her since that horrid night a year ago. The night that so many had died, the night Fred had died.
One year earlier….
Beel I feel zooming iz 'appening. It feels like evil iz closing in around us. I feel zat 'arry needs us! We need to find him now!
Suddenly Kingsley's patroness appeared. "Meet us at the hog head, in hogsmede. Apperate directly in to the inn."
With out a second thought they had both jumped to their feet and raced for the apperation point. When they had arrived a very disgruntled inn keeper pointed toward the stairs and they followed the line of witches and wizards up the stairs and through the portrait hole.
Things after that had happened so fast. Percy had returned, the students had been evacuated and then the battle had begun.
He had lost track of her during the first part of the battle. The whole while they fought a mantra had echoed in his mind "she must be safe, she must be safe".
When they had gathered back in the great hall, during the lull his joy at finding her alive and unhurt was quickly replaced by the horror of finding Fred was dead.
Then the sound of Voldemort mocking them, saying Harry was dead. Ginny almost fell in to his arms at the sight of Hargid caring Harry's limp body. For just a moment the world around them stopped. He could smell the acid stench of burned flesh, taste the dust of the rocks exploded from the sides of Hogwarts, but only see Harry so still until Fleur touched his arm.
Then determination and energy surged through him again. They would find a way to defeat Voldemort! His brothers had not died in vain!
Neville had leapt at Voldemort, more courage in that young wizard than could be found in all the ministry. Then things happened so fast, the snake was dead, there were more people joining the fight. He saw Charlie. His mum killed that evil witch, then Harry was back alive! Just one brother lost!
The strange dance of Harry and Riddle then the end, the blessed end. The days after were a blur of sorrow, joy, work and celebration.
Harry so spent but determinedly taking care of Teddy Lupin and Mrs. Tonks. His mum and dad suddenly so old looking. The burrow blown to smithereens. Helping get the bank back running, after work stopping by Hogwarts to give Charlie and Hagrid a hand. Returning home to find Fleur exhausted from first helping to make right the burrow and then making Grimald place somewhere the family could live until the burrow was re-built.
During this time he watched his siblings. What changes the war had wrought. Charlie, of course had to return to his job but found more and more reasons to port key home. George had quietly and with more dignity than anyone had given him credit for, had returned to the shop and with the families help, rebuilt it.
Ron had put his dreams on hold because George needed him. Percy had moved back home and looked after mum and dad and gave them someone to fuss over after Ginny went back to school.
He had gained a new sister after Ron and Hermione had married before she returned to finish at Hogwarts. Harry had become the man that was always a possibility. From the looks Ginny and he shared it would not surprise Bill if he did not have Harry as a brother in fact soon.
Then, Fleur had told him they were having a baby. A wee bundle of miracles all their own and now here they were, sitting side by side as officials droned on and on.
It was a beautiful day . The sun was bright and warm the marble headstones, fanning out from Dumbledore's tomb, sparkled like the ice always did on the lake during bright winter days.
If he tilted his head he could just make out where Fred laid. But if he did that he would begin to cry again. He did not want to cry.
Harry, who had been sitting between Bill and Ginny stood, Hermione and Ron followed suit. Bill focused his attention on the dais, to listen as they each gave their speeches.
Ron spoke first.
"Officials, Professors, students, family and friends. Today is a day of remembrance. Not only do we remember in order to mourn those who died during this bloody awful war but we remember so as not to forget.
To allow an evil such as we witnessed to rise again would be defiling their memories. Everyone of us here lost someone. Weather it was a loved one or just someone we knew, they touched our lives and if we knew it then or not they changed our lives. For their sakes, for our sakes and for the sakes of the children to come do not forget."
Hermione was next, Ron paused as they passed each other to squeeze his wife's hand.
"There are many stories we could tell of the people buried here. But I want to talk of just one, my brother-in-law Fred Weasley. In his story I believe you will find bits of all those we lost. Fred and his twin George were known to all of you. You may have gone to school with them and alternately marveled and were appalled by their antics. You may have bought products of their making. You may have tuned in during the war to Potter watch. So you know he was fun loving, talented and brave but what you don't know is how much he loved. Fred loved life, he loved his family, he loved his friends, and yes he loved a good laugh.
Fred was cut down before he could become the terrific father he would have been. Can you imagine being the child of Fred Weasley?! He left us before he could fully explore all the wonderful inventions trapped inside his head. He left us before he could see his younger siblings grow into the remarkable adults they are now. He left before he could dance at my wedding." Here Hermione had to stop and compose herself. "He left before he could know the niece that will be born any day now. And yes this is a loss, not for him, he is happy, with friends and long gone loved ones, looking out over us, but a loss for the rest of us. But instead of dwelling on our loss we should look to the one person who was closer to him that anyone, his twin George. I will not lie, and neither will he, it has been hard. But George is moving on with his life. Much to the chagrin of the professors here at Hogwarts, and myself as head girl, he and my husband have come up with even more annoying and amusing products. And on the back of each you will find a biography of a hero who fell in the fight against Voldemort. Let us take his lead. Let us remember and go on."
Harry stood, but did not immediately go to the podium. Heads turned to see where he was looking. Andromeda Tonks was striding down the aisle, a pink headed Teddy in her arms. She stopped in front of Harry, kissed his cheek and handed the baby over to him.
"This, everyone, is my godson Teddy Remus Lupin. He lost his grandfather and both of his parents in the battle against Tom Riddle." Teddy giggled and his hair began a kaleidoscope of color changes as he looked at the crowd. Harry turned toward where the students were setting. "Would the students of Hogwarts stand please?" He then turned back toward the crowd. "Would all the children here stand please?" After all were standing or being held aloft the held out his hand towards Fleur. 'Would Mrs. Fleur Weasley come forward?"
Bill helped Fleur to the dais. Harry swept his hand taking in all that stood , patted Teddy's head and then placed his hand on Fleur's belly. "This ladies and gentlemen is our victory!"
The applause was deafening. Tears flowed, hugs were exchanged , doves released and www set off the most magnificent fireworks display yet to be seen.
About an hour afterwards the family and a few friends were gathered in the garden behind the Hogsmede www store. They were enjoying a wonderful dinner under the stars. A sense of peace had settled after a day of grief. Suddenly Fleur made a sound Bill had never heard. Molly knew immediately what was happening. It took Bill only slightly longer to catch on, scoop his wife up and hurry to the apparition point.
With in 4 hours Charlie had gone and gotten Fleur's parents and her sister Gabriel, Professor McGonagall had given Hermione and Ginny permission to leave school and all were gathered at St. Mungos.
A little before midnight Bill, tired and sweat covered entered the waiting room. "She is here! Fleur was magnificent! Mum and Mammon are cooing over the baby now but I had to come out and let you all know. In a half an hour you can visit three at a time. Of course dad and poppa are to be in the first group and we would like her godfather there too. George that means you."
Bill walked to his brother and gave him a huge hug, then turned to where Harry sat with Ginny. "Harry you may not know it but you gave us her name today. We have decided to call her Victoire."
The girl's graduation was approaching and both Harry and Ron wanted to get them something special. A crisp May day found them on Diagon Alley. For the first time Ron had plenty of money. George had made him a partner. At first they had poured the profits back in to the business. But now George insisted he take a part of the profits. They took a small percentage each and the rest they invested and used for expansion. Harry headed to the Quidditch supply store. The Holyhead Harpies had picked Ginny to be their newest chaser. He got her the top of the line broom. While he was there he got himself one too. Pig had carried all the correspondence to and from Hogwarts like a trooper but Harry knew it was time to get a new owl.
He bought a matched pair of barn owls, one for himself and one for Ginny. He would wait to name them with her.
Ron had decided to surprise Hermione with a trip to Spain. They had not had a honeymoon and he thought a trip was just the right thing.
There were two eager men waiting at platform 9 ¾. Ginny and Hermione ran to them and a spectacular snog session was caught by more than a few cameras.
