Next chapter and guess what...I STILL DON'T OWN VK.
It was a quarter past six when Zero found himself at the stables, hand clasping his head as if there were knives stabbing away at him. His throat tightened and he found it difficult to breathe. He urgently dug into his inside pocket and brought out the box of tablets that he kept in case of these emergencies. They weren't ordinary pain relief tablets, but the same blood tablets the Night class used instead of feeding from humans. Popping one out of the box, he brought it to his lips, only to heave abruptly and cough up his own blood. Why was he unable to take these tablets? Every time he went to take one, he would end up being sick. More than likely it was the fact he was slowly degrading into Level E, and he never had even a drop of human or vampire blood.
It may have been a few minutes later when he shakily stood straight again, the pain soon beginning to subside. His vampire urges leaving him as quick as they came, he let himself lean on the entrance of the stables, his eyes landing on his precious mare, White Lily. She glanced at him, and he could clearly see the concern in her eyes. Zero was never one to like people concerned for him, but Lily wasn't a person, was she?
He took a few steps before he was stood beside the elegant creature, and he patted her neck as a means to reassure her he was alright. "I'm sorry for making you worry, Lily..." He mumbled, glancing around the stall to see if his bag of carrots were still around. Still in the same place he left them; by the stool. He swiftly picked up one of the vegetables and held it out to Lily, to which she happily took it and fed. She gave what could only be described as a horse smile before she began to sniff at him for more.
The albino chuckled under his breath before lightly swatting her nose away. "Lily, no more. You'll get fat." He gave her a soft and gentle smile, patting himself down to prove he had nothing.
But he did.
A look of surprise on his face proved that, and Lily was smart enough to notice. She gave a whinny of protest, curious as to what she could eat. Zero pulled out the round object and a flash of dark and light blue crossed his vision. It was the small chocolate that was given to him by Koneko. A faint blush spread over his pale cheeks as he remembered every tiny detail marking her half-covered face when she gave him it. The dainty movements of her hand as she held his out to place the chocolate atop, as well as the gentle smile across her lips as she left. But he couldn't tell if it was a real smile or not. Having her eyes blocked by those glasses annoyed him sometimes. He could never tell if she were really 'feeling', or just faking.
But there was a legitimate reason behind the gift. After all, she did say he was the first person she had met after coming here. Shrugging his shoulders, he held the ball in the palm of his hand, tugging at the ribbon and letting the chocolate blossom, the midnight blue wrapping acting like petals around the rich brown bud. It was definitely pretty, he thought as he picked up the chocolate between his thumb and fore finger.
Smelling the delicious treat, Lily leaned in, eager to make a swipe for the chocolate. But Zero was too quick, and it ended with her clamping her teeth together. "Hey, you had your treat. Time to have mine." He warned playfully. At least, he warned the first part. The second part was relayed in his head rather than spoken.
He popped the chocolate in his mouth and bit down hard, his fang slightly pricking his skin. Not that he cared about self injury right now. The chocolate was gorgeous. He'd never tasted something so delicious in a long while. Sure he was said to be a brilliant cook, but it was different when you made food yourself. It didn't taste as good as you'd like to hope.
He would have to repay her kindness with his own cooking one day. Yeah...one day...
xx
Midnight rolled by quickly and not a single Day class student was present wandering the grounds, thankfully. Both Zero and Yuuki were busy 'patrolling', but where was the little kitten known as Yoru Koneko? Alas, the poor girl was sleeping peacefully against a tree close to the academy. Her little adventure of being escort to vampires had been especially draining, and with a new found friendship with a certain Vice Dorm president, she felt more at ease knowing she was to move in there within the week.
Yuuki had been searching for Koneko for over an hour, and the longer the search went on, the more worried she became. She was already told of the knife incident and she knew the vampires would do all they could to get rid of her. 'Come on, Koneko-chan...Where are you?' She thought frantically, scouring the woods for a mass of blond hair.
A heavy sigh of relief was exhaled when she spotted said kitten sleeping soundly against the tree. But Yuuki knew that sleeping outside was bad, and Koneko still needed to go back and pack her belongings to be moved into the Moon dorm. Heading closer towards the wild blonde girl, a twig snapped underfoot, and Koneko's eyes bolted open. Her hunter reflexes kicked into gear and her hand swiftly grabbed the Souba, holding it against a frightened Yuuki's neck.
A sudden realization dawned on her not a second later. "Yuuki? Jeez, don't sneak up on me like that..." She yelled as if scolding a child, removing the blade from the brunette's neck. "I could have killed you..."
Yuuki looked down as the blade was removed and replaced into its scabbard. "Well...I didn't know where you went. So I had to find you." She stuttered, trying to recover from the shock. "But you're okay so... maybe we should call it a night. No one is really around, so things are pretty peaceful." A smile graced Yuuki's features, causing Koneko to smile back, but it was only a fraction compared to Yuuki's beaming glow.
"Yes...that seems like a good idea. Maybe you could help me bring a few things to the Moon dorm with me? You know, before we retreat..."
The blond rubbed her eyes under her glasses, ushering a yawn. Truth be told, she was excessively tired right now, but she knew if she just managed to take a few bits and pieces to the dorm before the vampires returned, they would not notice it until they snuck into her room as she slept.
"Koneko..."
Her attention fell back to Yuuki, who had been the one to usher her name. "Yes Yuuki?"
"I..." Koneko watched the girl squirm, dying to release what she wanted to release. "I wanted to ask you again. About your shades. So...what's the big deal?"
A silence fell on the two for a moment, before a heavy sighed was heaved from Koneko's lips. She never particularly liked to talk about this situation, but this was the second time she was asked - both by Yuuki.
"...I'll show you...but only if you promise never to speak a word of this." She whispered, watching the innocent girl nod her head vigorously enough that Koneko feared it would fall right off.
"I promise not a soul but me will know." Yuuki swore, hand to her heart in solemn oath. The blond couldn't help but manage a smile at that; naīve, young and innocent was such a lovely sight, if only a little bit annoying sometimes. A small sigh left her lips, eyes closed as her hand reached for the blocker glasses, fingers trembling as they wrapped around them. Knowing what the reaction would be, she hastily pulled them from her head and slowly opened her eyes.
"Oh my...Koneko you're...?" Yuuki began, unable to speak. She hadn't expected anything like it. Koneko's eyes were completely blank, save for her pupil. Yuuki had thought being European, she would have had blue eyes, and been rather embarrassed to show them. Maybe she would have been mistaken for a Night Class student by the Day class and that wouldn't work well for her.
"So...pretty creepy right?" She asked, watching the brunette point in shock.
"But...but you have no iris in either eye! What's wrong with them?" Yuuki couldn't comprehend how something like that could happen. It was completely unheard of to her. "Is there no problem with your sight?"
Koneko didn't really feel all that shocked by the reaction of the other female present, but only shrugged her shoulders as if it were nothing. "Yuuki, this is known as Aniridia. It's kind of like a disorder. I wouldn't say I am blind, but I am extremely sensitive to the light, so these glasses allow me to stop as much light into my eyes as possible." Koneko never really explained this to anyone before. All she was told by doctors was that she would end up going blind when she got older, but they weren't all that specific.
"Wow..." Yuuki held her hands together and swooned, rather thankful Koneko would let her look at her eyes. "I never imagined something like that could happen. You learn something new every day!" She chimed, trying her hardest not to sound rude. Koneko would have answered if not for a few little rustles by the tree they stood. The glasses were immediately placed back on her face as the duo remained frozen in time for a few seconds. Who was out this time of night? Was it Zero?
The girls looked at each other, and Koneko motioned her head in the direction of the noise, hand firmly grasped at her beloved sword. Yuuki, her hand reaching for the Artemis rod, nodded her head and both crept towards the trees, hiding within the bushes to watch a rather disturbing sight.
A gun pointed at the heads of Kain Akatsuki and Souen Ruka, held by none other than Zero, who just so happened to be surrounded by Night class students. "Hello, Night class..." the laid back albino greeted coldly. "What do you want?"
Aidou Hanabusa was the first to speak up, unafraid of the Bloody Rose gun that was suddenly aimed on him. "You know, you're a little cocky..." He growled, his sapphire blue eyes not leaving the lavender gaze of Zero's.
"You're just a human!" Ruka added spitefully, continuing where Hanabusa left off. "And the way you treat Lord Kaname..." She trailed off, the anger travelling to her clenched fists. It was then Touya Rima's turn to speak, he deep blue eyes glancing over the whole situation. "We really doing this?" She asked rather boredly. Honestly, she didn't really want to be there. Stood beside Shiki Senri, also rather bored, the two glanced at the others.
"Yes, but...Takuma said we should leave it alone..." Senri mumbled, running a hand through his deep crimson locks. Obviously he wasn't in the mood for a fight. It was almost as if he and Rima were dragged along by the others for numbers. Typical.
"Look, he's right." A more level-headed Akatsuki commented, wanting to be the most peaceful of the vampires present. "Hanabusa, Ruka, if Lord Kaname heard you now, he'd tear you apart." He took a step forward, hand reaching out to Zero. "Zero, come on, just put that thing-" All motion seemed to double in speed after that. Before he knew it, Akatsuki was gazing up at the night sky flat on his back. What had happened was Zero grabbed a hold of the approaching hand and hurled him over his back, dropping the vampire onto the ground hard.
"So uncool..." The two uncaring aristocrats mumbled, highly amused at what just happened. Maybe coming wasn't such a bad idea after all. A bright red flush of embarrassment on his face, Akatsuki couldn't help but usher a "shut up" under his breath.
Also rather amused by this, Zero smirked down at the vampire he just tossed to the ground. "Interesting..." He cooed to himself, glancing round at the remaining vampires still standing. "Come on then, vampires." He spat coldly, though the smirk never left his lips. "Go ahead; I'm in a bad mood anyway..." He grumbled, causing a deep set frown within Hanabusa's face.
"See? It's that kind of attitude..." Cold steam bled from the blond's shoes, as ice grew around his feet, travelling and freezing everything between him and Zero, and then further towards the lake. "That makes people think you're cocky."
Akatsuki had managed to stand by now, brushing his hair out of his eyes. "Well, I did my best to play the good guy." A few stray leaves lit themselves alight, matching with the anger that Kain felt towards the Disciplinary Committee. "I'm not to blame for what's next."
Zero rose his gun, no trace of fear in his being. In fact, he looked positively happy. Thrilled could have been a more appropriate word.
Meanwhile, Koneko and Yuuki had been watching this little dispute from the bushes, and they had been getting more and more anxious as time went on.
"We have to stop this..." The brunette whispered, the fear and dread by the group of them fighting resonating in her words. The blonde one watched away both fire and ice join the field, and she knew from meeting with them the night before that Akatsuki and Hanabusa were no longer playing around. Not that they were really playing to begin with.
"Let's go." She stated simply, turning her gaze to the brunette.
Who had already pole vaulted onto the scene.
"Hold it right there!" She yelled, landing right in front of Zero. "Fighting is forbidden."
"I thought you would wait for me, Yuuki..." Koneko huffed, stumbling through the bushes, her blade unsheathed and slicing away at the shrubbery. She hadn't unsheathed it for that particular reason, but it seemed helpful. Once the small blonde found her way over, her position was set close to Rima and Senri. They didn't seem to look as though they'd leap at her and attack. "Well, what a sight to see this was. I wonder... How did you all manage to slip away from class tonight?"
"If you all won't back down, you'll have to go through us." Yuuki held Artemis at the ready, almost as if protecting Zero. Koneko was certainly pleased with the bravery Yuuki showed. Such a drastic change for the people she cared about. And it got the blonde wondering. 'Would I ever find someone who would do the same for me? Would I do it for someone?'
The flaming leaves soon died down, showing Akatsuki's calmer state. "Now that they're here..." He started, his hand wandering through his hair. He daren't continue after seeing the hate filled glare behind Koneko's shades. Unfortunately, Hanabusa didn't see that look, and managed to finish the sentence for him. "I'm over it..." The blond vampire shrugged his shoulders and dug his hands into his pockets.
"Yes, the mood is completely ruined." Ruka, obviously not watching Koneko either, gave a soft yawn to express her sudden loss of that made Koneko's blood boil.
"Excuse me?" She asked, rather politely with a small innocent smile. She wouldn't raise her voice. No, that would have been too obvious a display of anger. "Did I just hear you say you lost interest in a fight? Well, I am so glad you feel that way." Her smile soon dropped to the same harsh glare she wore only moments ago. That one that stopped Akatsuki from finishing his sentence. "Well let me tell you one thing. I haven't had my fun because you five have 'lost interest'! Now I wonder...How will Kaname react when I have to report this to him later? I have no doubt that he'll think of suitable punishments." Her scowl had gradually shrunk, and a rather placid expression fell onto her face, and all Night class present felt themselves shudder. The lack of facial expression had them only guessing how she was feeling at the time. This was the strength of the Yoru clan. Mysterious as the night sky itself. "When that happens, I will enjoy every moment of it."
For a while, it remained silent. Even Zero and Yuuki stayed quiet, for fear they may anger Koneko in some way. The vampires awkwardly glanced at one another and the two hunters present enjoyed the feeling of intimidation emanating from the Night class. "...Let's go back to class." Ruka mumbled, finally breaking the ice and turning on her heels to return to the class room. Ruka felt the need to keep her gaze away from the little kitten for the time being.
The other followed suit, eyes cast downwards to the ground. They all knew without a doubt; the little kitten wasn't lying. There was a small feeling of satisfaction within Koneko knowing she had tamed a group of vampires, or at least aided in the taming. Nevertheless, the pride swelling inside the blonde disciplinary committee member made her inhale the night air into her lungs.
"Well, I should escort these troublemakers back to class and report this to Kaname. No doubt...he'll already know anyway." She turned herself to face the other two black-clad students. "Yuuki, you should take Zero." Her head then turned to face said boy. "I'm quite disappointed in your self control, Kiryuu-san. I know how much these vampires are irritating, but the less fights that start the better. You should have known better, Zero." Koneko could be such a hypocrite sometimes. "Well, I'll see you tomorrow...maybe." She waved goodbye to the two, though only one waved back.
The night air clipped at Koneko's bare thighs, and she soon regretted the fact that the school made the girls wear skirts. The sooner she got to the classroom, the warmer she'd be. But then again, she still had to collect her things from the Sun dorm without making too much noise. Maybe it would be best if she took only the most important things first, and then come back for the rest over the next few days.
"I know exactly what I want first..." Her mind wandered to her music box, a thoughtful smile on her face.

"Well it seems that everyone is truly repentant." Takuma purred, raising a hand to his chin. After hearing what had happened from Koneko, the five would do nothing but apologize. "Though I have to say it was pretty gutsy of Zero to take up Aidou's challenge like that. Something must really be eating at that boy."
"He's a hunter, Takuma. He has every right to accept a challenge from a vampire." A voice at the back of the room replied.
"We can't help that, Koneko." Kaname replied, glancing quickly over his shoulder to take a look at the huntress. The kitten only kept her head down as she fiddled around with a pencil, tracing the outline of the incredibly detailed music box she had brought from her old room in the Sun Dorm. Her eyes remained glued to the desk where she sat, head on her arm.
She knew just how Zero had felt in that moment. The thrill and thought of taking out a vampire just made a hunter pump with adrenaline. Kaname gave a soft smile as he turned his gaze away from her, taking a small sip from the glass he held in his hand. "That incident four years ago changed his life."
Two chapters in one day! My word I am trying so hard to make it up to you, my beloved readers. Please tell me what you think of this. I would LOVE to know. Is Koneko being too Mary Sue? If so, tell me and I will make her un-Mary Sue-ish!
Little bit of Zero action for this chapter. And finally the end of the second episode. My goodness, four chapters make up one episode. I hope this can continue! :D
