Chapter 4

Letty woke the next morning to an empty bed. She frowned, where was Brooklyn? She pushed the blanket off her and got up. She went to the dresser and pulled out a pair of jeans and a blue t-shirt. As she walked down the stairs she found her daughter. Letty smiled as she walked into the kitchen. Brooklyn was sitting on the counter stirring something in a bowl. Mia was across the kitchen searching in a cabinet.

Letty walked over to Brooklyn and smiled at her. Brooklyn gave her a kiss and continued mixing. "Whatcha making?"

"Chocolate pancakes."

"Chocolate chip pancakes," Mia corrected her, walking back with a pan. Mia set the stove and set the pan on it. She took the batter from Brooklyn and poured some. "You did a great job mixing it Brooklyn." The small child smiled proudly at Letty and Letty smiled back.

"I smell something good!" a scruffy looking guy said walking in through the back door.

"Leon?" Letty asked.

"Do my eyes deceive me, or is this Letty Ortiz?" He asked walking over to Letty. Next through the door came Vince and Jesse. Letty happily gave them each a hug and kiss. Vince walked over to Mia's bacon and grabbed a piece. She smacked his hand away.

"Ignore them, they were raised by wolves," Mia joked to Brooklyn.

"You know me, I always gotta eat!" Vince laughed taking a piece of bacon.

"You no say please or thank you," Brooklyn said pointing at Vince.

Vince walked over to the little girl sitting on the counter with his hands on his hips. "Well, well, well little girl, you see, when you're raised by wolves, as Mia says, you don't really pick up on manners." Brooklyn looked at him like he was crazy and he walked away.

"So, where's Dom?" Leon asked.

"Probably still sleeping upstairs."

"It's," Jesse looked down at his watch, "10:27, he's always up by now."

"So go wake him. I got cooking to do," Mia said. With Letty's help, Brooklyn got off the counter and followed the guys. She slowly followed them up the stairs and to Dom's room, without them even realizing. The three guys barged into Dom's room and Brooklyn stood in the doorway.

"Yo brother! Get up," Vince said shaking Dom.

"Get out," Dom mumbled.

"Come on man, get your ass up," Leon tried. Dom sat up and looked at the three guys in his room.

"You guys are asses," he said.

"We know," Leon shrugged with a grin.

"Hey uh, you guys, uh got a shadow," Dom said pointing to the door. They turned around and saw Brooklyn standing in the doorway.

She pointed at them, "I'm telling my mommy that you said bad words!" And she took off running.

Vince stood up and walked over to the door. "Oh yeah? And who would that be?" he called to her.

"Letty," Dom said quietly.

"What?" Jesse asked.

"That's Letty's kid. And she ain't mine. Long story, now get out so I can get dressed," Dom said.

The table was set and everyone was waiting on Dom to start eating breakfast. Everybody filled their plates, and Letty cut up Brooklyn's pancakes for her. Through the most of the meal, it was quite. No one really talked.

"So rugrat, what's your name?" Leon asked, stuffing bacon in his mouth.

"Brooklyn Natalia Ortiz," she told him.

"Brooklyn Natalia Ortiz," he said. "Natalia, typical Spanish name. Nice choice Letty," Leon smiled at Letty.

"Leave my mama alone," Brooklyn said with an angry face. Leon laughed and held his hands up in defense.

"Oh crap," Mia said wiping her mouth with a napkin. "I gotta get going." She quickly stood up and kissed everyone bye. She grabbed her car keys and rushed out the door.

Dom, Vince, Leon, and Jesse got ready to head to the garage. They each drove their own car there, and Letty stayed home with Brooklyn.

Letty put the TV on for Brooklyn and sat in the kitchen. She was trying to find houses close around to live in. Hell, even an apartment would work for her. She found a couple and wrote down the addresses of them. Letty got her daughter and went to check them out.

One was a house and the other two were apartments. She was tight on cash, so she chose the cheapest apartment. It was a one-bedroom, kitchen, living room, and bathroom apartment.

"So what's going on between you and Letty, man?"

"I don't know Vince. I mean, she's got a fucking kid, and it isn't mine. It just…feels weird being around Letty when she has someone else's kid. I just feel like Brooklyn isn't mine so I don't know how to be around her," Dom explained.

"She's cute though, you gotta give her that," Leon laughed.

"Yeah, Brooklyn is pretty cute," Jesse agreed.

"Alright, let's get back to work," Dom smiled.

The day went by pretty slow at the garage. There were only about two cars that had to be worked on. They mostly just goofed around and did nothing. They heard footsteps running in through the garage and they turned around. Brooklyn was holding a bag full of fast food.

"We brought lunch," Letty said entering behind her daughter. Brooklyn walked over to the small picnic like table and sat the food down. Sat knelt on her seat as Vince took all the food out. Everyone gathered around the table and picked what they wanted.

"Can you open this please?" she asked Dom, holding up a small barbeque dip for her chicken nuggets. He took it form her and opened, then gave it back. "Thanks," she said happily. Dom couldn't help the smile that formed on his face from this small girl. She was nothing but adorable.
