ASHLEY POV
After Joey and I talked on my phone…
I put my phone in my pocket and grabbed my IPod then used my IPod and started to play random songs blasting in my ears.
I really want to clear my mind… Ever since I gain my eye sight back I can't have a peace of mind!!!
I wanted to scream but didn't; I could feel the people look at me as I pass by, I couldn't blame them I had a totally different aura today; I am definitely off.
NORMAL POV
Ashley was walking by the hallway while listening to her IPod with her hair hiding her eyes. She had reached her classroom and entered. And she just happened to bump into someone who was standing near the door.
"Ashley?" called by a guy in Ra uniform and Ashley looked at him
Why did it HAD to be HIM… of all people.
"Bastion Misawa…" Ashley face was in total confusion and sadness.
Bastion pulled something from his pocket, it was the 10 page report they had made during the weekend. He handed it to her; she just shrugged in return.
Then there was a moment of silence, before Ashley went pass Bastion to sit at a table somewhere, but Bastion grabbed her arm and pulled her back to face him.
"What's wrong with you?"
Ashley didn't answer she just looked at Bastion's feet with nothing but sadness in her eyes. Ashley knew what he said; she could read his lips at least.
"Tell me!" He demanded
Bastion took away Ashley's IPod with his other hand.
"ASHLEY, TELL ME!" he hissed
"I don't want you involve in this…" Ashley whispered under her breath and Bastion didn't heard it clearly
"What was that?"
"Nothing." She muttered
"Ashley…"
"Please let go of me…"
"Why are you trying to be so distant?"
"It's none of your business."
I want you and the others to be safe without being involved… Jay's shadow duel was bad enough.
"IT IS MY BUSINESS!" Bastion's grip grew tighter as he became more furious
"LET ME GO IT HURTS!!!" Ashley shouted as she pulled her arm away from Bastion
Then she quickly snatched her IPod back and went to a seat far from their usual. Students were starting to arrive as they stare in curiosity at the Ra girl occupying a seat near the obelisks' section. Bastion went over to her place.
"Ash—"
"Leave me alone! This is for both of our best interests!!!" Ashley had cut him off
Raiki went over to Ashley and sat next to her.
"I didn't see you last night, Ash. Jay and Sy even brought Laike and your things over to my room."
"Did you feed him?" She said in a monotone voice, very unnatural
"Of course!" Raiki looked at Bastion with the expression, 'what was wrong with her?'
Bastion shrugged an 'I don't know…'
"Ashley, if this is what you want…" Bastion said as he looked at the floor
"…"
…I'm sorry for hurting you like this but I don't want you to get involve with my problems… Ashley sighed and then took a deep breath.
Bastion looked at her studying her expression from head to toe, while Raiki just listened to his two friends trying to figure out what happen and/or is happening.
"Then FINE!" Bastion shouted and left
"..."
I'm too afraid of the shadow games would take you guys away from me… I'm such a coward… But I much rather end this and be done with it than lose you to THAT game… Ashley suppressed her tears from escaping her, closing her eyes to gain control and hid her face with her hair
ASHLEY POV
"You alright, Ash?" I heard Raiki say, and then I turned to him
I opened my eyes and saw his face inches from me and a few tears had escaped my eyes. He reached and wiped my tears gently, his hand felt warm as he wiped my tears away. I nodded slowly.
"You should stop crying… Other people will worry."
I wrapped my arms around his chest, before nodding. A few minutes later I felt his hands hugging me by my waist and pulled me closer. I didn't care if anyone was looking at us, I just wanted some comfort for now… And he gave it to me; it made me feel a little better. Someday I hope I can thank them and somehow in between make up for everything that I did and am doing now.
RAIKI POV
Bastion left Ashley and I sitting on the table, I watched him as he left; his face expressed all sorts of pain. But when I looked over at Ashley, her face… Wasn't only in pain, there was also sadness, depression and confusion too. Ashley's worrying me… She didn't come back to her room yesterday and now that she's back, she's like this…
I don't like seeing her like this…
I moved closer to get a better look at her face.
"Are you alright, Ash?" She suddenly faced me and I saw tears coming down her cheek
I frowned and slowly I wiped her tears away as she nodded slowly.
"You shouldn't cry, Ash… People will worry."
Especially me.
She suddenly hugged me tightly burying her face in my chest and cried, before she reacted with a couple of nods. I couldn't help myself anymore; she's here in front of me and in pain… I knew what to do, but the stupid deal…
SCREW THE DEAL!!! I don't care about it anymore! I'd rather go back and face the demon, Seto Kaiba, himself than see her like this. I embraced her and pulled her closer to me.
"I'm here, Ash. Always, promise."
NORMAL POV
Professor Crowler had just come in the classroom when the first thing he saw was Ashley and Raiki hugging each other.
"AHEM!!!" Crowler coughed loudly
"MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!!!" Raiki snapped at him
"The classroom is for LEARNING—"
Ashley pushed Raiki away lightly, even though she really didn't want to yet. She gave an uncharacteristical death glared at tall obelisk professor, her beautiful topaz orbs into ferocious and dangerous looking cat's eyes.
"You just said it is for LEARNING… So TEACH I haven't learned anything… STILL!" She rolled her eyes
"Except maybe HOW TO PUT ON MAKE-UP." Ashley answered back sarcastically, before she narrowed her eyes at him
If looks could kill Ashley's glare would have sent him to hell a thousand times over; the students suppressed there laugh, as Professor Crowler felt a shiver went down his spine before shivering in fear as he met eye contact with Ashley's.
"Ahem—Well, then let's get on with our lesson."
That's fine… THIS IS the last time you're ever going to talk back to me ever again! And that will be the last of you and Jaden!!! Crowler grinned at the thought
After a boring lecture about battle phases, the class ended and Ashley went to Crowler and passed her report.
"Here."
"I see you're not letting the—"
"If you say Slifer Slacker even just once… I'll pull your hair off." Ashley threatened as she flashed her now cat-like eyes glaring at the Professor again
Crowler swear all of his hair went up as their eyes met once again. Her expression can only be described as an unspeakable evil and an unparalleled level of hatred. As if someone had turned on the mute button on the Professor, it would seem like Crowler didn't have a voice as he tried to scream like a little girl in terror, before melting on the floor.
Ashley left without another word and left the room. Raiki followed her not very far behind.
As they walked in the hall way Ashley tries to get herself back together.
"Rai, mind if I go to the music room?"
"You're cutting class? …Wait, we have a music room?"
"Uh… Yes and yes."
"Why?"
"I need some alone time…"
"I'm not leaving you alone with THAT temper or how you're feeling right now." Ashley gave him a weird look; her eyes now as normal as they can be
"Oh, don't give me that! I've seen you… Well, ok maybe the other side of you…"
"You know, it's dangerous to be around me when I'm like that…"
"Huh?"
"…I'm sort of… Unpredictably… Random?" Ashley's voice had a hint of uncertainty
"I'll live." Raiki answered
You might not… And that's what I'm afraid of.
"The answer is still no."
"Then THERE IS NO WAY YOU ARE CUTTING at least not without me."
Ashley's eyes began to shift to its evil appearance; she rubbed her temples and sighed very heavily.
"Fine. But you're the lookout." Ashley muttered as she tried to control herself
"Whatever, as long as you're not alone to be suicidal or anything like that." He answered, then Ashley laughed and regained control
"You're worried about me being suicidal? That's what all this is about?" She said with a tone of amusement, Raiki just blinked at her a couple of times
"Sheesh—I'm not suicidal, Rai." As she crossed her arms
But I might as well be… Thanks for the boosted of confidence, Rai. Not! She rolled her eyes at the thought
"On second thought, I feel much better. Thanks." She smiled at Raiki as she would normally
"Thanks for what?" Raiki raised his eye brow at her
Ashley stuck out her tongue, and then ran to her next class, Professor Satyr's.
"I'll tell you if you catch me!" Was the last thing she said before she disappeared out of his sights.
Raiki smiled and runs after her.
She's definitely back to normal.
NORMAL POV
Ash's acting pretty weird since after that duel this morning… Maybe she was so impressed and she's thinking about dueling with me soon!!! He grinned at the thought
Jaden was walking in the hallway and bumped into someone and made her fall down.
"Ouch…"
"I'm sorry; I was sorta lost in thought." Jaden smiled at the obelisk girl as he offered her his hand
"That's ok, Jaden. We SHOULD really stop meeting this way." As she reached for his hand and Jaden pulls her up
"Yeah, you're right, Lex." He sheepishly grinned
"So, have you talked to Ashley? She's acting… Weird."
"Yeah, I know. Maybe, she's just planning something like when to ask me for duel!"
"I doubt it, but there's definitely something else…"
There was a moment of silence as they started to walk together to their next class, when Alexis remembered the beach accident with Bastion.
(A/N: For those who don't know about The Beach Accident, read Chapter 6: New Feelings; One Weekend)
"Jaden, you would know if Ashley's angry at me or anything, right?"
"Why would she? It's not like you stole her lunch or anything, right?" Alexis looked at him like it was the silliest thing she's heard
"No, not at all." Alexis shrugged at the thought
All of a sudden, the two was bumped by a running guy. Fortunately, he caught Alexis by her waist as he stopped and let Jaden fall to the floor.
"Oh, sorry. Did you two see Ash run by?" The Ra boy asked them facing the blushing Alexis just a few inches away from his face
"Uh—No, is she missing?"
"No, I was kind of chasing her." Raiki blushed in embarrassment
Jaden stood and faced the two, feeling a bit uncomfortable at the sight.
"How long are you planning to hold her like that, Rai?" A girl voice teased just a few feet from the group, Raiki blushes even more than before
"Hiya, Ash!" Jaden grinned
"Don't tell me you're falling for Lexy too!" Ashley teased with a grin across her face, Raiki rolled his eyes
Alexis gain back her balance thanks to Raiki and now the two are standing side by side.
"We are going to be late you know, if we stay here any longer." Alexis told them
"That's ok, we have Professor Satyr next." Ashley chimed
"Yeah, he sort of has favoritism for Ra students who pick to stay in Ra." Raiki explained casually
"I remember the rumors about that. An elite wanted to be at Ra instead of Obelisk."
Jaden kept quite listening to the three with a bit of discomfort and restlessness.
"Would it surprise you if I said there are two elites who did, Alexis?" Raiki grinned mischievously at Ashley, as she bit her lower lip
"TWO?"
"Yup." Raiki replied rather mischievously and grinned wider
"Ash, maybe it's time? You had a hard time keeping this… But I think you should at least tell our friends. No point in hiding it, it's in the past after all." Raiki continued
"I guess so…"
"Ashley?" Jaden said as he saw his friend shaking
"I received an invitation to be an obelisk after the exams, not too long ago, it was something about my ranking ahead of Chazz but… I declined."
"You ranked ahead of Chazz?" Jaden echoed
"She got 3rd actually, she out ranked everyone, you, Sy, Bastion, Dimitri, me, Chazz and even Alexis here…"
"I thought you wanted to be the number one girl duelist? Being at Obelisk will open lots of opportunities!" Alexis pressed on Ashley
Oh, how I wish you knew, why I declined…
"I don't like to be an Obelisk, no offence. Besides that Raiki was the one who declined being an Obelisk in front of Seto Kaiba himself and I don't see you interrogating him!"
"Ash… Don't change the subject…" Raiki mutter under his breath as he rolled his eyes but no one seemed to notice
"Well?" Alexis crossed her arms at Raiki
Ashley whispered something in Jaden ear, Alexis and Raiki didn't notice as their conversation continued.
"Do you plan on telling us or not?" Alexis asked in a rather demanding way
"Look, I didn't completely; I'll be an Obelisk when I think I'm ready to be." Raiki answered casually and turned to look at Ashley, but she was gone
"Ash left a little while ago, said to tell you, 'you snooze, you lose.' " Jaden said to Raiki with a big grin, Raiki sighed
"That girl is so troublesome. See you two later." Raiki left the two alone
The two headed to their class too.
"There's still something bothering me though… Do you think they're still hiding something?" Alexis finally said
"I don't know, but if they are, they'll eventually tell us. We're all friends after all!" Jaden exclaimed nonchalantly
"I guess so."
Professor Satyr was waiting on the door as Ashley walked by.
"Professor Satyr! What are you doing here?"
"Ashley, I wanted to talk to you. What have you been doing these days?" Satyr said with a concerned tone
"Me? Just the usual, why?"
"You have been called to the principal's office."
"WHAT?!?" Ashley was shocked, her mouth wide open.
"You better go now before you get into more trouble, young lady." Satyr taunted
Ashley giggled for a moment and saluted to him.
"Yes, sir!" Then ran to the office
(A/N: Yeah, I kinda felt like Satyr wasn't used much in the series so I'm using him in my fic hopefully I'll make him have more scenes with him in it. Hehehe)
ASHLEY POV
I knocked on the door hesitantly. My body was a bit shaky and my palms were a bit sweaty when I heard a voice said, "COME IN."
"Hime-sama, calm down. Remember, control."
"I know, Buster. Thanks." I muttered as I opened the door then I sighed heavily and put on the most straight face as I could
I stood in the center of the room and faced the monitors. I saw the examiners some who I didn't recognize, there was Professor Crowler too and Chancellor Sheppard.
"Good morning, Sirs. To what do I owe the pleasure?" I bowed to them
"Ms. Ashley, we received an anonymous tip from a faculty member that you went to the abandoned dormitory and that you stole one of the obelisk student's blazer." One of the examiners said sternly
"It is true that I went there, but it wasn't intentional, I assure you. I have the worst sense of direction and I just happen to end up there."
They all gasped as I completely agree to their accusation. I wasn't even done yet and they were already prepared to dismiss the issue, I figured as I saw the stares or rather glares of the examiners. I sighed and put on the most innocent face I have in my arsenal.
"As for the blazer, I didn't steal it. You can go ask Zane, he let me borrow it. I am planning to bring it back after I wash it. It'd be rude to give it back dirty and smelling like me..."
"I must say, these accusations toward Ashley are very extreme. I don't think a girl of her caliber would need to do such a thing." An examiner said
At least I know I have some allies.
"After all she is one of our top duelists and she just declined a spot in obelisk blue not too long ago. Doesn't that mean something?" He continued
"That's true, and we can always ask Zane Truesdale to support her testimony." Another suggested
I sighed, I was feeling a little guilty to drag Zane into this. One of the examiners went to find Zane.
"As we wait, is it true that you accompanied Jaden Yuki and Syrus Truesdale?"
"I didn't accompany them as you assumingly put it, though I usually do accompany them… But I did ran into them…"
"Did you know that going into the abandoned dorm is an automatic expulsion?"
EXPULSION?!? The word struck my heart like an arrow
"No… Please…" I strongly disagreed, they all went silent as I feel my eyes burn.
My mind wondered to that night and remembered Jaden and Syrus. They have so much potential; they were only rescuing Alexis from a creep with the fake millennium puzzle who was obviously so, so very fake and Jay was even forced to duel in the shadow game, that I triggered, without him even completely knowing it… Heck, he thought it was an ILLUSION!
"Please if you like to punish someone, PUNISH ME, I beg of you let the others go. I would do anything, they didn't do anything wrong." I let some of my tears escape my eyes as I bowed my head in front of them
I heard the door opened behind me and someone came up to my side, who I confidently thought was Zane.
"I had let her borrow my blazer. I thought she felt cold since she was only wearing a bikini at the time..." Zane said in his usual monotone voice; the words seemed to trouble Crowler the most at least so it would seem at the corner of my eyes
"I see, but the abandoned dorm…?" I heard Chancellor Sheppard say
And just like that everyone in the room forgot what I just said earlier, simply because Zane entered the room and spoke in this deep voice of his.
"I got lost, and I'm really sorry." I interrupted, I was shaking more violently
"Chancellor Sheppard if I may, she was blind for a while if everyone here remembers." Zane said politely
"Yes…"
"I do remember that…"
"Yes, continue, Zane."
I saw Crowler face was turning from troubled to distress; I would have been amused if it weren't for the present circumstances.
"She couldn't have known or read the rule book or the island map for that matter."
I remembered my experience of being blind and became a bit restless and let my thoughts travel elsewhere for the moment.
Zane could pass as a defense attorney; I'm lucky his here and helping me.
"So, it's only natural for her to get lost in such an unknown place, am I right?"
Everyone was nodding and agreeing with Zane. I was completely relieved at the moment; he was standing there and explaining to them… He was willing enough to help me even though we just met yesterday.
"…But Jaden and Syrus…" I manage to mutter, my face still wet from the tears that escaped my eyes and Zane looked at me in response, no expression as if his eyes just happen to look at my direction
"Ah, yes. Jaden Yuki and Syrus Truesdale, we will deal with them tomorrow." Crowler said as he was practically glowing in excitement regaining from his distress of failing to expel me, as Zane focused on Crowler
I felt a hand on my shoulder I looked up. It was Zane's.
"Can we go back to our classes now?" I stood completely still next to Zane
"Yes, of course." Chancellor Sheppard said
Zane led me out of the room.
Outside the room, my shaky feet could not support my body anymore so I had collapsed as soon as the door was closed.
Poor Jay… Poor Sy… I should have done something… My eyes were still burning but I tried to hold the tears in
"You shouldn't worry that much about them." I heard him say
"Huh?" I looked at him his face still as hard as stone
"It's about time he'd drop out of the school anyway."
"HE?" I echoed
Which he? I wonder…
