Raiki thoughtRaiki sighed once more and gently brush Ashley's hair away from her face before gently taking Ashley in his arms, bridal style and took her to their dorm then her room.
Two days had passed and Ashley hadn't woken up from her sleep yet. She was suffering from high fever and cold sweating for some reason unknown to everyone. Raiki had stayed with her as she slept and took care of Laike for her while she was sick. Raiki was starting to blame Zane for what was happening to Ashley and had a few theories. He was also getting tired of answering Ashley's phone because Joey and Tristan were always calling every hour to check on her.
Raiki had collapsed on a chair near Ashley's bed with Laike patiently sitting next to him.
RAIKI POV
When are you going to wake up, Ash? Alexis, Jay, Chum and Sy are worried about you and believe it or not, so is Bastion.
I mean, who was he kidding always sitting next to me just to strike a conversation that somehow ends up to be about you… And Alexis, Jay, Chum, and Sy are practically asking 'how are you doing?' every time they see me. Just wake up already, Ash.
I groaned in defeat. Stupid Zane, he had something to do about this, I'm sure of it!!!
ASHLEY POV
It was dark at first and for some reason I ended up here in school, in Duel Academy. I looked around and saw a familiar person looking at the academy and I was right behind him. He had white hair, at least I think he does and he was wearing something odd, it was the same male uniform of the academy… But there was something different about them. I reached out my hand and grab him by the shoulder.
"Don't touch me, you filth." I flinched as he shrugged his shoulder away from my hand
I haven't heard anyone call me that here in DA, no... Actually, I haven't heard that from anyone but my father.
"You've changed… Why? Was it because I tried to shun you?"
What am I talking about? Tried to shun… Who???
"Don't flatter yourself; I didn't do this because of you. I've out grown you."
Out grown? What does he mean by out grown? I didn't understand… What's happening?
"Give it a rest, Ashley. Just join us and all will be well… Or at least Bastion will like you again anyway." A smug male voice said, as I looked forward to see who's it coming from
Chazz Princeton, the same smug yet somehow sweet guy that I met in the lighthouse long ago, during my first few weeks of stay in DA. Stupid Princeton, what does he mean 'all will be well?' Everything hasn't been well since the start!!! …At least for me anyway. Wait… He said 'Bastion.' This guy, in front of me, is Bastion? Bastion Misawa, my Bastion? The responsible, academically serious and analytical Bastion Misawa dyed his hair white?!? And… Just called me 'FILTH?!?'
"Forget it, she's with us." A male's voice behind me said
That was Zane's voice, deep and yet monotonous.
I looked behind me and saw Jay, Sy, Rai and Zane with some others I don't recognize, who smiled at me. A guy with blue hair was still walking towards me.
"That's right; no one's touching this girl. Not while I'm around." This guy said, as he stopped next to me and placed an arm around me and pulled me to him
Who was he? He seemed familiar to me, somehow… Where have I met him before? And why am I blushing?!?
I pushed him away with both hands; all Icould think about was I really don't want to lose Bastion not now, not ever. He meant a lot to me… I was very upset for some reason and was crying and I just noticed it. I'm so stupid why have I only noticed now that I'm crying my eyes out in front of this crowd? Was I even crying before this started?
"Bastion! Please!"
"'Leave me alone.' That was the line you said to me once. And now I'm leaving you alone, now you'll be happy."
"No!!! That's not true!!! I WON'T BE HAPPY!!! I WON'T!!! DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE! PLEASE!!!" I sealed my eyes shut as I felt my eyes burning up and my tears over flowing clutching my hand tightly over my chest
"Please…" I begged at him again and again
I woke up right after that. I sat up instantly and jumped out of bed, but someone had grabbed my wrist and embraced me from behind.
"Damnit, Ash. Don't scare me like that!!!" I heard him shout
It was definitely Raiki, no doubt about it.
NORMAL POV
Raiki had just embraced Ashley to stop her from getting out her room. Laike starts barking at his master.
(A/N: I missed Laike! He's been with Raiki for a while you'd think the pup would think that Raiki was his master! Hahaha)
"Damnit, Ash. Don't scare me like that!!!" Raiki shouted at her
"I have to go and talk to Bastion right now!!! I have to please… I'm begging you!!!" Ashley shouted back
Laike bit Raiki's pants and tries pull him away from his master.
"No. Not until you rest and answer some questions."
"I have to do it now, before it's too late!!! I DON'T WANT ANY OF THAT TO HAPPEN!!!"
"Any of what?!?"
"Please… Just let me go… Let me do it… I need to talk to him…" Ashley was on the verge of crying now
"Was it because… Something happened with you and Zane the night you disappeared?" Raiki's voice had deepened and had sounded so dark, as he let her go
Raiki caught her attention with that line, as she turned around to face him and gave him a confused expression.
"Something—with Zane? What do you mean?" Raiki gave her an intense look and slowly scanned her from top to bottom, Ashley's eyes grew wide she knew what he meant
Ashley slapped him across his face, hard; tears had already escaped her eyes.
"YOU BIG PERVERT!!! WHY THE HELL WOULD WE DO THAT?!? I WAS WITH ALEXIS, JAY, CHUMLEY AND SY THAT NIGHT!!!" She shouted angrily at him, Raiki blinked at her a couple of times
"Eh?" Raiki looking all chibi-like and confused as he rubbed the spot Ashley had slapped him
"'Eh' IS RIGHT!!! I was with them at the abandoned dorm!" She explained only half shouting
"Why were you…" Ashley heavily sighed and tried to calm down as she wiped her tears, as Raiki took Laike in his arms
"I got lost again." Raiki laughed; laugh hard and loud, but tried not to squish his best friend's pet
Ashley crossed her arms and stomped to the door
"Hey… (laugh) Wait… (snort) Don't… (laugh again) Go… (tries to hold laugh) Didn't… (holds breath to suppress laugh longer) Mean… (face getting red from containing his laughter) To… (bursts out laugh on the floor)"
"Laugh it up. I'll be back in a few." Ashley told him as she turned away and left to go find Bastion
ASHLEY POV
I ran up to Bastion's door and knocked on it very loudly and urgently. This can't wait. I can't stand this!!! It's torturing me and eating me from the inside—I wanted nothing more than to hang out with him again, to be able to talk to him again, to be able to eat together with the rest of our friends, do homework, study for exams and for him to just be there. I don't want him to leave me alone! I won't be happy. I won't. I just know I won't.
I started crying again, I've been doing this a lot since I had set foot on this island. I knocked on his door again; the stupid island cursed me to crying a lot in my whole stay here, starting from the day I arrived at this school.
"What do you want? I'm busy!"
I wanted to say something but nothing came out, and in my frustration I knocked again and again and again, until he opened the door a little bit. I pushed it open and hugged him tightly, while he just stood there.
"What the—" was all he manage to say
BASTION POV
I was in my room at my study table writing down some formulas on my notebook as always when I started writing her name as a variable in the formula. 'Ashley', I underlined it. It's been two days; I haven't seen, talked nor physically made contact with Ashley. I didn't know what I did wrong… I DIDN'T do anything wrong… …I think. She had no reason to be mad at me or to avoid me, but it's easier for her… She's sick and hasn't been awake since our recent fight!
This is messing with my head… She's messing with my head! I sighed
Better stop thinking about her, Raiki must be annoyed by me suddenly making conversation with him then suddenly switching topics about Ashley.
There I go again! Think of 'she-who-must-not-be talked to, talk about, think about, seen or make contact with.'
Alexis… …Has been real worried about her too.
Damn it…
I heard knocking from my door, it sounded like an emergency or something, must be one of those Ra guys who have no time to do homework because they have a date tonight, but still he saved me from going insane think about her.
"Who is it? I'm busy!" I shouted
Yeah, right… Who was I kidding? Not me, that's for sure.
The knocking came again and again and didn't hear a single word from the knocker. I got up and walked over to the door to glance, which annoying person was outside, when the door flew wide open and a pair of arms had embraced me. I looked at the person and my eyes widen. It was Ashley who was crying and holding me close to her, like she didn't want to let go.
NORMAL POV
Bastion was shocked and didn't move a muscle he just stared at the girl with wide eyes.
"What the—" was the first words that came out of Bastion, the shock had apparently affected his brain
"I didn't mean what I said! I don't want you to leave me alone!!! It was wrong of me to ask you not to worry about me!!!" Ashley interrupted
"Friends worry about each other and I was just so mad that you have this huge crush on a girl and I'm preventing you from getting what you want because you're worrying about me or something." She continued as she started to calm down
"I'm really sorry. I wanted to help and not be a burden anymore, but all I do is make a mess of things and bring trouble and I'm really sorry." She ended as she closed her eyed tightly and hold Bastion tighter and closer
Bastion embraced her back, as he realized what this was all about the fighting and crying and avoiding. It was because she's insecure and concerned about her friends. Why didn't he notice before? Oh, right—because she pushed him toward Alexis, literally; then left without even a single word and with Jaden no less. (A/N: This happened in Chapter 6 just in case you guys don't know.)
"No… It's my fault. I apologize." Bastion finally sighed
"Can we start over and forget the things that happen for the last few days? I don't want to argue whose fault it is right now… You know, since we just made up and I don't really care anymore, as long as were ok with each other now." Ashley pointed out
"Of course." Bastion said
They had let go of the embrace after a while, when they realized they were still in the halls where practically anyone can see and then blushed.
"So, how's your wound? You know the one Laike bit?"
"It's healing nicely. Thanks."
There was a moment of silence.
"It's because you treated it quickly that no infection occurred." Bastion continued after an awkward pause
Why were they being so formal with each other?
"No rabies?" Ashley giggled, Bastion smiled
"Yeah, no rabies. You'd be the first one I bite if I had any."
"Oh, that's something to look forward to." Ashley rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out
Another awkward silence.
"So still need me to tend to it?"
"No, it's ok. It's almost healed anyway."
"How did you do on the last exam anyway?"
"Not bad, but not very good either. I just ranked top 20."
"Speaking of exams, I heard you had an invitation to move to Obelisk. Why didn't you take it?" Bastion continued
"Oh—that, well, because you and Rai won't be there." Ashley smiled at him as she answered whole heartedly
