Hey, Guys! BlueJay's diary is up, by the way, so if you need some back story, it's published as a separate story... "My name is BlueJay" is the title.

But, anyway, back to BlueJay and Robin with the Joker... will Batman ever show up? ;)

Disclaimer, I own no young justice. :(

PS Thank you for your patience... I have a lot of this written up, but no time to TYPE it...

Varishi: Thanks! I don't know if I'm a great writer, but you always have a way of making me feel better about my writing!

piggythelaw: THANK YOU! Here's some more...

Dorri7437: It was not my intention to make BlueJay a Mary Sue, and I'm trying to fix that. I agree that my writing style is a bit atypical, but I'm just embracing my uniqueness! Thanks for the advice, though.

maia39440: I'm glad you're enjoying it! And, I guess we all need Wally to slap us every once in a while. ;)

phoenix: I'm glad this is interesting you... Here's some more!

The second BlueJay hit the cement floor, her mind sprang into fast-forward. They had to get out of there, and soon. They would have to wait out the allotted hour, but maybe, just maybe, if they came out fighting, they could manage to get out of there before the Joker could carry out his sadistic punishment. Simply racing for the nearest exit was not a good idea; the Joker wouldn't hesitate to shoot them or dedicate resources to their recapture. The Joker would only care about ending up victorious. Just waiting it out didn't seem like a great idea. BlueJay had no idea how long the Joker planned to drag all this out. And Batman's lack of telepathic contact didn't reinforce BlueJay's hope in his rescuing them. BlueJay was very hungry and weak, but for Robin, she would be willing to take on all of the Joker's goons. Yes, fighting their way out was their best option.

Robin fell beside BlueJay with a thud. BlueJay was about to relate her plan to Robin when he spoke. "BlueJay?" BlueJay didn't want to have another emotional argument, so she decided to go right to the heart of the problem. "You're mad," she guessed. Robin shook his head and answered, "No, I'm not mad. Not anymore." BlueJay was puzzled. "Then you're resigned to it?" BlueJay asked, referring to her death sentence. "No!" Robin shouted. "No, I could never be resigned to... to this." This sparked BlueJay's curiosity. "Then, what exactly are you?" she asked. Robin reached forward and stroked BlueJay's cheek. BlueJay shuddered inwardly as Robin said, "I'm heartbroken." This snapped BlueJay back into action. "Robin, we're going to get out of here! Today! Get traught!" Robin perked up instantly. "BlueJay...?" BlueJay plowed on. "Robin, we need to fight our was out of here, before the Joker hurts you." "You're up to it?" Robin asked. "Yes, I am," BlueJay said. She was willing, but not quite at her physical peak.

"We're close to the exit," Robin said. BlueJay nodded in affirmation. "So we come out fighting?" Robin suggested. "We have to use the element of surprise," BlueJay assessed, nodding again. Robin stood up and began to stretch and pace the room, and BlueJay followed suit, preparing to fight Robin's way out of the Joker's clutches. As for herself, BlueJay had no intention of getting out of there until Robin's safety was certain.

As BlueJay tentatively warmed up, she considered the "older methods" for which the Joker seemed to have ardor. BlueJay accidentally opened the door to fear in her mind. Endless possibilities flooded her. The rack? Mutilation? Impalement? Burned perpetually? She was especially fearful that the Joker would decide to whip them. BlueJay shuddered and tried to push her mental scar away. BlueJay also couldn't help but intertwine the Joker's obsession with bombs in this. BlueJay shook her head quickly, reminding herself that it wouldn't matter; they'd fight their way to freedom before the Joker could touch them.

The hour was consumed quickly, and the couple was alerted by the clicking of the door as it was unlocked. The door swung open and BlueJay and Robin attacked. The Joker was accompanied by three guards, and they were all at least a little surprised. Robin went towards two of the guards and flipped over their heads. He executed a nice roundhouse kick, effectively knocking one guard to the ground. The other two guards went for Robin, attempting to subdue him. BlueJay went for the Joker, hoping to stop him before he could call for more help. The Joker seemed to anticipate her, and while BlueJay had finesse on her side, the Joker was much stronger than her at this point. She put up a good fight, but her strength waned quickly, and the next thing she knew, the Joker had one arm around her and a knife pressed at her throat. He pushed the blade deeper and deeper. The knife cut a shallow slit in BlueJay's throat, and a drizzle of blood began to fall. BlueJay bit her lip, trying not to make a noise as she tried to decide the best way out of the Joker's grasp. The Joker whispered in BlueJay's ear, "Scream!" and then quickly yanked the knife away, creating a larger gash in her throat. BlueJay screamed in pain and frustration, then reached up to staunch the flow of blood. Robin turned to look at BlueJay, and in that moment, escaped became futile. The remaining guard clamped his hand on Robin's arm and two more guards came to help. The Joker let BlueJay fall on the ground, then licked his lips, saying, "Eager to get started, are we? Great, well then let's go!" BlueJay looked up miserably and mouthed to Robin, 'I'm so sorry.'

But sorry wouldn't help them escape. BlueJay's burst of energy was gone, and she was spent. She could feel new bruises blossoming among the old, and her neck was still bleeding its warm, sticky trickle. The Joker personally dragged BlueJay along behind him. Robin was behind, surrounded, now, by four guards. He seemed to be debating whether or not he should try to fight his way out again, but it was beyond that. Robin telepathically told BlueJay, 'Hang in there. Batman will come for us.' BlueJay doubted it. The Joker would have to keep his promise, and keep Robin alive after this.

The Joker took them to a gym of sorts, and it was littered with torture devices of various sorts. Oddly enough, it seemed free of bombs. "No explosives?" Robin asked in mock disappointment. The Joker dropped BlueJay and whisked around to face Robin. "That would be so cliche, don't you think?" he asked. Suddenly, the Joker's face became animated and he slapped his hands together. "But look at all the fun toys we have to play with! Now, sooner or later, Batsy will be here to tell me that playtime is over. But this time, when he shows up, one of you will be..." the Joker licked his lips, "DEAD!" BlueJay, despite her injuries and fatigue, managed to reply, "Sounds like fun." The Joker turned and dragged BlueJay up, his hands wrapped around her wrists. He searched her eyes and replied, "But won't it be? I've got so many fun things planned." The Joker let go of BlueJay again and walked over to a table in the back corner. He returned with a black video camera. The happy chime of the camera as it turned on had no place in the dark room. "First on the menu is..." he said as he panned the room with his camera. "Whipping! BlueJay," he continued, "I know how you enjoy that. Remember how much fun we had together? We played other games too, of course, but for some reason, you enjoyed that whip best. You screamed the loudest then." BlueJay did remember. Her mental scar resurfaced, and her scars from the ordeal four... five? maybe five days ago; those scars were barely healed. The Joker tossed his camera to one of his goons and tied Robin' and BlueJay's arms to the pull-up bar that was established on the nearby wall. The Joker selected a whip from a nearby rack, and two of his thugs followed suit.

The Joker began to whip the two birds, laughing hysterically at the screams he managed to illicit from them. Time lost meaning; minutes slipped away with the blood that fell in puddles on the floor. BlueJay tried to control herself, but the pain and mental scar combined was overwhelming and BlueJay screamed, again and again, gasping for breath in between and squeezing her eyes shut. Her screams were eerie and foreign to Robin, but he couldn't really question it; he was in just as much pain too. Skin became shreds. After what seemed like an eternity, the Joker dropped his whip in the pool of blood and said, "Wasn't that fun?" BlueJay was barely hanging onto consciousness, but she tossed her head back in defiance.

"Well, I'll be back in a bit. Then, BlueJay, I think I'll kill you. I'm afraid Batsy will be here soon, and I don't want him spoiling our fun!" The Joker waltzed out. The two goons cut Robin and BlueJay down, then left as well. Robin crawled over to BlueJay and whispered soothing words to her, trying to reassure her. She dropped out after a little bit. Robin gently stroked BlueJay's hair again and again, watching her sleep, wishing that he could prevent the Joker from waking her. Before he knew it though, he nodded off to sleep...

Cliffhanger!
