I can't tell you how many times the kid attempted to fight his way out of the room that he was currently locked in. But 4 big Avians were a little too much for the poor boy.
Finally giving up, he slammed himself against a wall and allowed himself to slide down, eyes closed. Taking the opportunity, I looked carefully at the red marks on his forehead.
They were basically a group of squares, along with some swerving lines. They seemed to recede into his hair, and went only a little down the bridge of his nose. They were very cool looking, but if he went out in public like that people would start staring.
"So now what?" I whispered, hoping that the boy wouldn't hear.
"I can hear you, ya know?" the boy snapped. I mentally cursed, forgetting that he had better-than average hearing as well.
I got up, gripped Fang's hand, and dragged him outside my room. He gave me a questioning look.
"Now what? Do you have a plan? My parents are home, we have a violent, loud, and strange little boy locked up in my room, and Angel is missing! What the heck are we going with this?!" I whisper-shouted.
"Well, I figure we try interrogating him-" he started, but I cut him off.
"Don't forget that he's *eight* years old," I reminded harshly.
"Ok... So we can ask a few questions. Then when we're good to go, we give him back," Fang shrugged. But then his eyes turned that green-yellow, and he started breathing deep breaths. My eyes immediately flew open in alarm.
"Fang? Fang? Are you ok? What's happening?" I rapidly questioned him.
He took another deep breath, before opening his eyes to look at me. "I'm fine. It's nothing."
"Don't you dare tell me it's nothing!" I said, shoving him lightly. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing. It's normal. Just get away from me," he told me. I glared at him, before deciding that I'd get nothing out of him. I just went back inside the room and crouched in front of the little boy, next to Nudge.
"What's your name?" Nudge asked gently, trying to befriend the kid even though she already knew his name.
"Grayson," the boy mumbled, staring at her.
"Ok, Grayson, how are you?" Nudge pushed on.
"Why would you want to know? You just kidnapped me!" Grayson shouted.
"Well, I'm going to be nice," Nudge smiled. I smiled too, right as Fang walked in.
"Yeah... Like kidnappers would be nice! You'll get nothing out of me. You're Avians. You're my enemy," Grayson said plainly, crossing his tiny arms in front of his chest in defiance. I gulped. This was going to be very difficult. He was as stubborn as Angel.
"We have a very big problem," I told Iggy, getting up and walking over to him. He threw a questioning look in my direction.
"What?" he asked.
"Did we make any plans for where this kid is gonna stay?" I asked. "He can't stay at my house. I have my parents here."
"It's ok, he can stay over with me, my parents are away," Iggy shrugged it off.
"You're blind," I stated.
"No, really?!" Iggy deadpanned.
"No, what I meant was: You won't be able to safely handle him,"
"I'll have Fang over, he can help me," Iggy answered.
"So he's staying with Iggy and Fang? For how long?" Nudge said, butting into the conversation.
"Till we find out more about where Angel and the others are," Iggy and I answered in unison.
I looked over at Fang, who was sitting on my carpeted floor with his head in his hands. What was up with him lately? The weirdness was overwhelming me.
I got up, and walked over to him. I sat down crossed legged next to him, and tried to get a look at his face.
"Dude, Fang, what's wrong with you? You're acting really weird. Do you need to go to the hospital or something?" I asked quietly.
Fang didn't look at me. He just kept taking more and more deep breaths. In. Out. In. Out.
"Fang?" I asked again, even quieter this time.
"I know what's wrong with him," Grayson piped up, grinning cheekily. Fang glared at him, urging him not to answer through his eyes. Grayson just grinned wider. "I know what's wrong with both of them. I've seen it."
"What?" I asked curiously.
"Just look at them!" Grayson persisted. I looked at Fang. And then Iggy. I didn't notice anything besides the weird behavior.
"What?" I questioned, annoyed.
"Gosh, what are you, five?" he retorted. Some nerve the kid had. "Fine. Guess what time of the year is coming up."
"Uhh... Winter?"
Grayson face-palmed himself. Where had he gotten his attitude from?!
"And what's after that?" he asked.
"Uh... Spring?" I answered, unsure where he was going with this. I looked back at Nudge, Iggy, and Fang. They were all turning red. WTF?
"And what happens in the spring?"
"Flowers?" I said.
"Is she always this stupid?" Grayson asked the other three. I felt ready to tackle him, even though he was just eight. "You know what? I'll just let you figure it out yourself. It'll be a surprise."
Ok, now I was scared. I swallowed, and looked back at Fang and Iggy. They had scared-but-amused looks on their faces. I looked back at Grayson. He stuck his tongue out at me.
And that's when I lunged. Grayson just stepped to the side as Fang and Nudge grabbed my arms, efficiently holding me back. I just about growled at Grayson.
"He's worst than Angel!" I protested. Nudge just shook her head in a "tsk tsk" way.
All of a sudden a fiery red-headed girl peaked from my two story window. I gaped at Phoenix. These guys were better than the circus.
"I think I found something," she whispered urgently, her canines showing.
