Chapter 14: Suspended
Happy Harbor High February 16th 1138 hours
Ahsoka and M'gann came from the lunch counter to their table, where Connor and Lux were waiting for them. As soon as they sat down, Ashley took out four bowls. Connor looked around and took out am piece of paper and wrote something on it before handing it over to the two girls. "Do you have the shawarma?" the note read. Ashley looked to the boys and nodded yes. Connor and Lux smiled as the four sat down and started to eat away at the shawarma silently. As M'gann ate her food, she looked over Lux's shoulder to see Silver Martian and Ultraboy eyeing them from afar. The young Green Martian hid back away after seeing them take notice of her. Connor grumbled while Ahsoka just sighed.
From another table, Karen Beecher also eyed the four teens mysteriously. I wonder what's wrong with them. She thought to herself. At that moment, Mal Duncan walked over with some pizza. "What's wrong, Karen?" he asked his crush. Karen looked over and gestured for him to come closer to her level. The muscular man nodded as he sat and bent down. "You ever notice how strange things have become ever since the new kids, Summer Sullivan and Kevin Cullen came to this school?" she asked. Mal nodded and scoffed. "Doesn't every student get nervous around new kids?" he asked. Karen nodded in disagreement as she pointed a finger to Megan, Connor, Lux and Ashley.
"Ashley never leaves her posse, Lux just seems too odd for a name, Connor is suddenly dropping his tough guy act, and Megan for the first time is being silent, not a 'Hello Megan!' all week. Don't get me started on how freakishly similar Sullivan and Cullen look to those two either." Karen explained in a soft voice. Mal nodded and thought for a moment. "I guess you're right." He remarked before furrowing his brow. "What about the new girl, Braid Olsen?" Mal asked. Karen looked to him and gasped. "She does seem to hang out with Sullivan and Cullen more than anyone else." Karen theorized. To prove their point, Braid walked over with a tray of fried chicken and sat over next to Summer Sullivan and Kevin. The three snickered as Karen narrowed her eyes at them. "Something's not right." Karen stated.
As Ahsoka and the rest of her friends were eating away, Connor started to listen into what Braid was talking about with Silver Martian and Ultraboy. "Everything seems to be going as planned." Braid stated. Ultraboy nodded and smirked over to the British female. "ORDER will soon know everything about what the Team is planning at Happy Harbor." Kevin stated before Silver Martian added on to the conversation. "The only problem is that the kids won't open up. They think we'll tap into that psychic link of theirs." Summer stated, tapping her finger against her head. Connor's eyes widened as he continued to listen from afar. "Well, we need progress. Sylas will be getting impatient, and he pulled me out of the Expanded Universe's prison for a reason. I didn't undergo plastic surgery and become Black Widow for nothing, you know." Braid responded. Kevin chuckled and sighed. "Very well, I have a plan." Kevin stated. "We get the Team after school. There, we make them crack like eggs." The Demon of Superboy informed. The three started to cackle as Connor gasped. "Barriss!" he exclaimed under his breath, silent enough that not even he could hear it. He looked around before grabbing a paper and writing on it. Ahsoka raised an eyebrow as Connor soon handed her the paper. "Braid Olsen is really Barriss! She's Black Widow!" The paper read. Ahsoka gasped softly and looked back to see the three evil teens smirking and laughing to each other.
Karen, who was now using a pair of binoculars, took notice of the joy that the three new kids were having and narrowed her eyes at them. "Something's definitely not right." She deducted. Mal nodded as he looked over to the four other kids at the table nearby. "Something about Braid and her new BFFs is starting to trouble Megan and the others." He added on. Karen looked over and nodded. "Whatever's going on, we need to help them get to the bottom of it." Karen stated. Mal nodded as they continued to look at the unnerving teens.
Later on, Karen and Mal were walking over to their next class. Karen then noticed Megan and Ashley walking over to a janitor's closet. Karen then pulled on Mal's shirt. "Let's go see what's going on." Karen said. Mal nodded as the two followed them and started to listen to their conversations behind the closet door.
Ahsoka and M'gann sighed as they pulled out a holo-transmitter. "What is it, Kaldur?" M'gann asked exhaustedly. The Atlantean looked to the two concernedly. "It would seem that the whole Team is suffering the same effect as you four." Aqualad stated. "Zatanna and I have our problems taken care of, but Kid Flash, Artemis and Robin are still to be noted due to their problems with the Terror Titans." Aqualad added on.
From the outside, Karen and Mal gasped at what they were hearing and seeing. "They're from the Team of the Justice League!" Mal stated softly. Karen nodded. "I guess that that's what they've been hiding all this time!" the cheerleader stated as they continued to listen.
"It may be troublesome for you to handle the Terrors. After all, they ARE clones of all of us, so we all might be in serious danger." Kaldur added. Ahsoka nodded. "I know that Braid might be new here, but I sense that she could be Black Widow." Ahsoka informed. Aqualad pondered for a moment before replying back. "Have you caught her doing anything suspicious for the ORDER?" Kaldur asked. This time, it was M'gann's turn to speak. "Braid has been acting innocent all the time, so we can't bust her without exposing ourselves to the entire student body." M'gann stated. Aqualad sighed. "I understand. Continue to keep your low profile as Miss Martian, Ahsoka Tano, Superboy and Rebel." Kaldur ordered. Ahsoka nodded as M'gann saluted. "We'll being that, Aqualad, 10-4." Ahsoka concluded.
As soon as the two girls walked out of the closet, Karen was waiting for them, leaning against the wall. Mal was also waiting for them, standing on the outside with his arms crossed. As M'gann and Ahsoka looked to each other and smiled, Connor and Lux caught up with them. Before they could even get to class, though, Karen walked in their way. M'gann looked to her and chuckled. "Can I help you, Karen?" she asked innocently. At that moment, Mal walked up behind them. Connor turned around and smiled after looking around. "What's up, Mal?" Connor asked. Ahsoka looked to the two and narrowed her eyes at them.
Karen chuckled and placed a hand on M'gann's shoulders. "We can help you take care of Black Widow and the Terror Titans, guys." She told them. M'gann gulped and looked over to Ahsoka. "We don't know what you're talking about." Ahsoka lied calmly. Mal walked over and chuckled. "How come you guys didn't tell us about your awesome gig?!" Mal asked. Lux looked to the side and chuckled. "Seriously, what are you talking about?" the Senator asked. Karen scoffed and let go of M'gann. "We heard everything you two were saying in the closet back there." She stated. M'gann and the rest of the Team then sighed in defeat as they looked back to their friends. "What do you want?" Ahsoka asked. "We're gonna help you take down Barriss and the Terror Titans." Mal explained. M'gann raised an eyebrow and scoffed. "There has to be a catch to this." She said. Karen sighed in defeat and nodded. "We want a place on your Team." She said quickly. Ahsoka shrugged. "I don't see why not, but we need to check in with the JL first." She reminded them.
Mal shrugged and laughed. "Where do we start?" he asked. Connor sighed and turned to see both of them. "The Titans are planning on getting us after school. If we can get them to reveal themselves on front of the school while the pep rally is going on, then they can finally be gone from our school, and we can get back to our normal lives." The Boy of Steel stated. Mal started to think as M'gann and Lux sighed. Finally, Karen snapped. "Have you ever heard of the nonviolence acts during the Civil Rights movements?" she asked. Lux nodded. "I've always known. After all, I've always wanted to know how nonviolence would work in any given situation." Lux stated. Karen chuckled and looked to her new friends. "Here's what we do…" she whispered. After a while, the Team broke off and nodded. "We'll be sure to do that, thanks for the idea." Connor stated. "We thank you for your support." Lux added on. "We're glad to be of service." Mal and Karen stated happily.
Coruscant, Jedi Temple…
Anakin and Obi-Wan looked to the Republic Records with much uneasiness. "This makes no sense at all, Anakin." Obi-Wan stated to his former apprentice. Anakin sighed and nodded in agreement. "I know, I mean all of these prisoners; Vindi, Slick, Loathsom, and even Lolo Purs have all gone missing from Republic custody within the past week!" Anakin remarked. Serra then walked up behind them and cleared her throat, catching the Jedi's attention. "I think that I may have found a lead onto who Sylas may be, as well as Ahsoka's disappearance." The Padawan stated. Obi-Wan looked to Anakin and smirked. "Sometimes, good things come to those who are patient." He stated. Anakin scoffed. "Yeah, let's just hope that it stays that way." He remarked.
Serra brought the two Jedi into a large room, with records of all the dangerous criminals the Republic and the Jedi Order had failed to catch, or are still in the process of apprehending. "The man known as Striker who attacked me in the Hall of Jedi had this insignia embedded onto his attire." Serra explained. Anakin looked to the symbol very carefully. It showed some kind of golden bird, but Anakin couldn't make out what it was. "Look, there are words imprinted onto the symbol." Obi-Wan pointed out, pointing to a large text embedded inside of the bird. Anakin narrowed his eyes and studied the words carefully. "ORDER." He read. "I've never heard of them." Serra stated. Anakin sighed and looked to them. "If Ahsoka was somehow kidnapped by them, then we need to send more ships into the anomaly." Anakin ordered. Serra nodded and looked to him. "Who will you send?" she asked. Anakin sighed and turned around. "Do you think you, Jaybo, Saw, can enter the anomaly to find out more answers?" Anakin asked. Serra smiled and nodded. "You bet, Skyguy." She quipped. Anakin smiled as she was soon off to get the rest of the Coalition to help her on her quest.
Earth-16, Happy Harbor High 1532 hours
As the school pep rally went on, Connor, Ahsoka, Lux and M'gann walked to their lockers to get their stuff. As M'gann got her stuff, she looked over to Connor and nodded. Ahsoka and Lux did the same as they all closed their lockers and walked to the gymnasium silently. Just then, Ultraboy and Silver Martian got in Connor and M'gann's way. "Did you think you'd get away from us?" Kevin asked. M'gann gulped as Ashley and Lux backed away. Before they could even escape, Black Widow appeared behind them. "No one's going anywhere!" she proclaimed. Ahsoka and Lux backed up as the four were soon backed into a circle. "Run." Ahsoka simply stated. Lux and Connor nodded as they broke the circle and started to run towards the school cafeteria. The three Terrors just chuckled as they started to give chase to their victims.
As Ahsoka, M'gann, Connor and Lux entered the cafeteria, they noticed that there was no way out. "Dead end." Barriss stated, crossing her arms as she and Silver Martian and Ultraboy stood at the only exit. Connor looked to the rest of the teens and nodded. They all scattered across the room, causing the Terror Titans to go after them. Connor jumped over many of the tables and chairs as Ultraboy started to fly and use his heat vision on him. "I can't keep this up!" he yelled. "Soon, you won't have to!" Kevin remarked, laughing behind him. M'gann shrieked as she hid behind the counter and threw several plates and dishes at Silver Martian. Silver Martian only scoffed as she stopped them with her telekinesis. "I expected so much more from you. Now say 'Goodbye, Megan!'" Silver Martian quipped. M'gann screamed as she jumped over the counter and ran away, letting Silver Martian laugh behind her. Ahsoka and Lux were having trouble of their own, as they could hardly avoid Black Widow's web attacks. "You can't run from me forever, puffballs!" she screamed. Ahsoka and Lux both panted as Barriss neared them on her high spider legs.
Soon, the four were knocked into the center of the room. "Well, this turned out well." Connor stated sarcastically. M'gann and Lux nodded as the three Terror Titans neared them sinisterly. "You should have given up when you knew who I really was, Ashley!" Barriss taunted. Ashley looked up and panted. "So, you confess that you're not really the good person you pretend to be?" she asked. Black Widow chuckled and threw her arms around. "Yes! For the last time, I, Barriss Offee, Black Widow, Agent of ORDER, leader of the Terror Titans, general to Sylas, have been working undercover at this school with Silver Martian and Ultraboy to find out the truths of the Justice League! I have never liked anyone in this school, because I work for the terrorist organization known as ORDER!" Barriss yelled. M'gann got up and looked to her with a stern look on her face. "So, you've been playing everyone this whole time just to get close to finding out about the Justice League?" she asked. Silver Martian smirked. "That's right!" she exclaimed.
"And cut!" a voice said. The three Terror Titans looked around confusingly as they heard the voice. At that moment, Mal and Karen came out of their hiding placed, holding cameras in their hands. "Everyone knows now!" Karen quipped. Black Widow gasped as the cameras were flashing. At that moment, the entire school entered, looking down at the Terror Titans. Barriss growled and activated her lightsaber. "Kill them all." She ordered. The two Terror Titans nodded and prepared to attack everyone. Before they could even land an attack, the roof burst open as the Justice League flew in. Black Widow snarled as Superman, Captain Atom, Batman, Green Lanterns Hal and Jon, and Wonder Woman surrounded them. "Prepare to die." Ultraboy stated. Before they could attack, a voice came into the three's comlink systems. "Titans, this is Sylas. Your identity has been revealed. Pull out immediately." Sylas ordered. Black Widow looked around and stammered. "This isn't the end!" she promised. Ahsoka smirked at her while Ultraboy blasted a hole into the ceiling. "Terrorize and Rise up!" Black Widow ordered. With that, she grew her wings as she, Silver Martian, and Ultraboy flew out of the school. Captain Atom looked up and narrowed his eyes at the three. Sylas sounds so familiar. Where have I heard of him before? He asked himself. Ahsoka looked up and scoffed. "We won." She stated. The students and teachers alike started to cheer, and the Justice League sent their smiled to the teens. It was going to be a good day for them.
After school had ended, Ahsoka and the rest of her friends walked up to Karen and Mal. "We thank you for helping us in taking down the Terror Titans, as well as Black Widow." Ahsoka stated gratefully. Karen scoffed and laughed as she placed her hand on the Togrutan's shoulder. "It was our absolute honor to help out." Karen stated. Connor smiled and looked up to Mal. "Now, don't you worry. We'll keep your secret identities a complete secret." Mal promised. Batman then walked over and glared at the two, who seemed to shiver in fear at the sight of him. "Your alliance with us is still to be determined. I will dictate your place on the Team, and we will report back to you with results." The Dark Knight stoically stated. Ahsoka groaned and walked up to Batman. "You know what; I'm tired of the way you talk to us. We're not afraid of you. It doesn't matter what you say to us, or how you get things the way you want to, it doesn't change the fact that there's just a coward hiding underneath that dark mask of yours." Ahsoka snapped. The Team, Karen and Mal all stepped back as Ahsoka looked Batman into the eyes. "They will be placed onto the Team in due time. Are you satisfied?" the Dark Knight retorted back before walking away. Ahsoka scoffed and placed her hands on her hips.
Watchtower 1616 hours
Batman and the rest of the Justice League all sat at their large meeting table. "Ever since Ahsoka came, a lot of strange things have been happening." He stated. Captain Marvel stood up and nodded no. "Ahsoka has been an excellent influence on the Team. She has a right to remain." The captain stated. Doctor Fate nodded as he looked to the rest of the Justice League. "Ahsoka Tano shows great potential. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned for her safety." The Lord of Order added on. Batman looked to the rest of the Leaguers, who all seemed to be backing Ahsoka up. Finally, the Dark Knight sighed. "Very well, Ahsoka stays. But as for Malcolm Duncan and Karen Beecher, their places are still to be determined." Bruce stated. Just then, the Ray cleared his throat. "I'd be happy to organize a special project for Karen to work on. I have seen her academic records, and her scientific expertise is just what we would need." Ray Palmer stated. Batman sighed and nodded. "You do that. I will still need to see that Ahsoka Tano can be fully trusted." Batman said. "For now, this meeting is adjourned." The Dark Knight finished up. With that, the League all left the Watchtower to perform their duties.
Meanwhile, somewhere over space, the vortex started to open up. Out came a modified Vulture Droid, carrying Serra, Jaybo and Saw Gerrera. Serra looked down to the planet and then looked back to her squad. "Let's go find Ahsoka." She stated. The two nodded to her as they cloaked their ship and landed onto Earth.
