Chapter 40
The classroom was full when Mackenzie entered. Year 4 only had one class, but it was closing on being big enough for two. There were no desks; only three tables lay at the back of the large room with soft chairs dyed grey lining them. Platforms come out of the walls. Eight couches were positioned in two circles, with sixteen computer stations in front of each designated seat. Other computers lay in the four corners. A screen signified the front of the classroom. Half a dozen doors lined the opposing wall, a wall made of glass. Mackenzie saw why, passed the doors were work stations for just about everything, even games. He smiled at all of them; this was his sort of school.
Thea tapped his head, "Well, this is it. Don't worry, the classrooms get better for the other students, and we're closer to the dining hall." No one seemed to have noticed them. Mackenzie suddenly felt nervous standing in front of all those kids. 23. Most of them were taller than him; all of them knew each other. Thea cleared her throat. "Do you want some help?" Mackenzie looked up at her, not sure what she meant. "Don't worry. I told you, you're one of us. Which means you already have friends, cool friends," She smiled looking over the room; the teacher was out it seemed.
"Oi!" She yelled, everything was suddenly quiet, Mackenzie wondered if they knew her. His question was answered quickly.
"Go away, Thea," A girl, with short magenta hair, told Thea. She sat on a couch, but unlike the other kids, she only seemed to have one friend. A boy who hadn't even looked up from his computer; definitely not school issue. "Nobody likes you." Thea looked calm despite the fact that the girl was bad mouthing a big kid, and Thea was the big kid. Mackenzie wondered why.
"I'm not here for you, I have a delivery," She stepped away so that Mackenzie was in the view of every child in the class. He smiled not sure what else to do. "Allow me to introduce you to, Mackenzie Hawthorne, Prince of Agnieszka, and claimed by the theatre." The rude girl nudged the boy playing the game. The boy slowly looked up, as if in a daze. His eyes found Mackenzie's without further instruction.
"You." Was all her said, then he stood, Mackenzie could already tell the boy was taller than him from across the room. The boy stepped forward, and Mackenzie did too. "Remember, Mackenzie, you're one of us, alright?" Mackenzie turned his head back to Thea and nodded. The girl smiled and left.
"I know you." One kid said, he was fat and rollie and he was pointing a chubby finger at Mackenzie. "You're famous." Mackenzie smiled.
"Yeah I am," Ignoring the advancing boy and walked over to the fat kid and sat down next to him. "Where's the teacher?" He asked, the boy stared at Mackenzie blankly, unfazed Mackenzie continued. "What's your name?" No response. "Do you like sweets? I like sweets." The boy's eyes lit up with that, and he nodded vigorously.
"Sweets. Bru likes sweets. Lollies too, Bru likes lollies." Mackenzie nodded. The boy, named Bru, pulled out a few sweets and offered it to him. "Do you want some? I have lots. Bru likes lollies. I know you. You're famous." Mackenzie took a lollies and thanked the boy. He put it in his mouth and noticed that many of the kids were now sitting around his couch. Their eyes wide.
"Brutus just gave you some food." The rude girls said, as if the thing was impossible. Mackenzie moved his smile over to her.
"Brutus is my friend, friends share. Do you want to be my friends?" he glanced over to the other students. Brutus nodded very quickly.
"Famous friend." He said, twenty hands shot in the air.
"I want a famous friend!" Most of them called. Mackenzie looked around, he was happy.
I was wondering which characters people prefer.
