Adventures Though Time

Chapter 7: Shadows are lurking

Day 2: Part 2

"Oh it's you," Magda sneered as Past Jonno VanHellsing appeared before her. Jonno's eyes widened, his mouth dropped open, he recognised this woman from somewhere, he knew he was in trouble…

"Sorry Miss Westenra," Jonno said in a polite manner with a charming smile on his face, that always worked with the ladies. "I didn't mean to disturb you, I will just be on my way."

"Oh no please," Magda smirked flashing her sharp white fangs from the corners of her lips, "I've not had a slayer come to visit for some time and I'm so hungry."

It was good job Jonno was a better slayer than his father, he jumped back into the sunlight just in time as Magda's long black figure nails reached out to grab him. Magda screamed as the sunlight burned her hand and she quickly pulled her hand back inside the safety of the dark tent.

Jonno felt an overwhelming feeling of pride as Magda's face was full of pain and shock, he tried to hide his smile but it was no good, Magda could not touch him now, he was safe.

"Well like I said Miss Westenra, I will just be on my way."

Past Vlad didn't notice the thin, long shadowy figure crawling along the ceiling, its unseen eyes zoomed in on the small pre-teen vampire who was staring off into space. The first instinct that came into this shadow creatures mind was how it wanted to pounce on the young Dracula and dig its long pointed finger nails into his skin, oh how easy it would be to just get rid of them right there right now. But no, his master had plans for these two and there will be enough time later, for now the creature will just observe but there would be nothing wrong giving the kid a little fright now would there?

It was Past Jonno's goal to get as far away from that tent as possible. At first he had been relieved to find the tent, he had not seen a single human since that mirror sucked him up into this maze, well he had heard something last night, like a scream, he had run towards the sound but he never found who it was, but since then he had been too afraid to sleep and he was so tired. Not hungry, not thirsty just tired.

And sick.

Sick of this maze, the aloneness, the worry, this stupid quest! He wondered what was happening back at home, was everyone wondering where they where? Was his father trying to do something about this? Are the Draculas involved in this? He was not sure he hadn't seen any members of Dracula clan yet not really counting Magda, the baby werewolf and Renfield so the chances of the Draculas plotting this was quite high.

Jonno sighed and rubbed his face when he remembered he also seen Robin and Chloe going in too. Vlad may be a Dracula but he cared too much about his friends to let anything happen to them, didn't he? Jonno sighed again and his eyes trailed and found a small wooden door hidden inside the hedge to his left.

How many of those doors where there and had he missed them? That was beside the point, he could finally get out of this dammed maze! He ran towards the door with a smile on his face, he grabbed the handle, it needed a good pull but he managed to get the door open and a dark cave like tunnel greeted him. Jonno gulped.

The tunnel was dark and a chill came from it, not an evil chill just cold, and it was very dark. The only good this about the maze was that it had sunlight so he didn't have to worry about any creatures of night attacking him, who knew what was lucking in this dark tunnel, he could be lost in there forever or it could be is only way out.

Luckily Jonno was trained slayer well, slayer in-training but he was the top of his game maybe even better than his father, definitely better.

He reached for his backpack and took out his old black torch, his garlic necklace and small stake. Now he was ready!

If only he knew what awaited down that long gloomy tunnel…

Past Vlad was snapped out his thoughts when he heard a sudden loud bang above him, Robin awoke with a start.

"Was that a gunshot I just heard or was I dreaming?" Robin asked fearfully.

"Unfortunately, unless I can read your mind I heard it too," Vlad answered as he got up.

"We are not safe here," Robin said "Let's go back the way we came and get out of here!"

"I think it came from above us," Vlad said looking up at the celling "as long as we don't go any higher I think we're safe."

"Unless the person with the gun comes down here," Robin mumbled, wanting to get out of this tunnel that very minute.

"There is no point going back the way we came," Vlad pointed out "We have to keep going"

Robin sighed, he knew Past Vlad had a point, it could be days until they found another door and by then the week could be almost over!

"Fine!" Robin puffed, like how he would of acted six years ago, "But if a crazed guy comes chasing us around with a shot gun I'm blaming you."

Vlad smiled it was good to see the old jokey Robin but the prank wasn't over yet…

Past Count and future Chloe decided that they were well rested and ready to carry on. The pair noticed that the more rocky the wall got the darker the tunnel got, the Count had to hold a ball of fire in his hands to light the way, he was now leading with Chloe following close behind.

They were moving much slower now, keeping an eye out in case some shadowy creature decided to jump them again but that now was getting harder to do with it getting darker but at least the tunnel was wide and they could easily run if anything happened. They had been walking in silence for hours so that they jumped out their skin when they heard loud stumbling noises coming from the other end of the tunnel followed by a bunch of curses.

"Who's that?" Chloe asked trying to peer above the Counts tall shoulders.

"Well something so clumsy can't be a match for the mighty Count Dracula," The Count chuckled with a sly grin spreading across his face "It smells like breather."

"Breather?" Chloe gasped "Are you sure it's not me?" Chloe was trying not to get her hopes up.

"Oh no this one smells like a boy and very familiar one at that."

"Robin!?" Chloe cried as she pushed past the Count and ran towards the noise, she did not hear the Count calling for her to stop as she came closer to the body of an unconscious figure lying on the ground, she couldn't see who the figure was until the Count caught up holding with fire in his hands, although the boy was a lot younger than she remembered she had recognised him instantly.

"Jonno?!" Chloe gasped as she saw the state that her young friend was in, the ends of his jeans where torn along with back of his jacket, she saw no blood but he looked pretty shaken up. She held the past Jonno's head on her lap and brushed the dirt off his face.

"Why do I always end up with the breathers I can't eat?!" The Count cried out running his free hand along his face, "Why couldn't I stumble upon someone more useful, like my future son for instance he would be a vampire now, the best there is and I end up with a slayer!"

"Oh stop moaning," Chloe said turning towards the Count, "something's hurt him, that means we won't be safe if we stay here, you don't know whatever hurt him could be coming this way now!"

The Count shut his mouth, hesitating for a few seconds before jumping to action.

"Ok," The Count clasped his hands together "We can't go back the way we came or we will be back where we started and that won't get us anywhere, we can't keep going straight on because there is possible chance whatever is down their will try to kill us."

"So what do we do?" Chloe asked.

"I don't know, you're meant to be girl genius."

"And you are meant to be over six hundred years old, someone that age should have been in this type of situation before."

"Well there is a little saying," The Count started with his finger on his chin and head high. "If you have two choices and you don't like either of them make a third choice."

"So what do we do, make a third tunnel?" Chloe rolled her eyes at the thought but she was already thinking up a third choice.

"Don't be sarcastic with me breather," The Count threatened tapping his feet impatiently.

Chloe took Jonno's backpack from his back, there must be something in there that could help. Her hands wrapped around a small device and she pulled it out.

"A mobile?" The Count said "You don't suppose this place has signal?"

"Don't think so," Chloe mumbled "But there are a bunch of other objects here too, we just need to learn how to use them to our advantage."

"What do you mean?"

Chloe smirked, "I say we fight our way out."
