The soft beeping of medical instruments was heard over the soft breathing of two boys. The blond haired one was laying on the bed still unconscious after he had fallen down in front of the church main gates. The other boy was leaning on the side of the bed while he sat on a chair next to it, he hadn't left the other for more then a couple of minutes since the boy had collapsed. Both were sleeping peacefully enough though at the moment.
Frau, Labrador and Castor looked at the two boys from the doorway. Labrador had hooked the boy on as soon as he got him to the medical wing of the church and had been taking care of him ever since. Frau had silently kept watch over Teito not going far away other than to get some food for him. Castor had been trying to find what the boy on the bed really was, but so far hadn't found any that could link with what Mikhail had told them.
Mikage hadn't shown any of the things Mikhail had said he would be. Sure he felt a little off, but there was no kor to be seen when the boy was still conscious and nothing divine was even felt from him. Castor was at a total loss and the only thing he could do was wait for the boy to wake up and ask him directly.
Labrador walked into the room and checked all of Mikage's vitals. He seemed to be all right, only his heart rate was a little to slow. It was beating half the pace it should have been, but somehow his blood pressure was totally normal. Labrador looked up at Castor who had came to stand behind him to look at the boy too.
"I really don't see anything weird about this boy besides the many cuts he has covering his body, and the feeling we all have about this kor being inside him. I don't get what Mikhail said to Frau. What is so special about this boy that we haven't dealt with before?" Castor said as he looked at Frau.
Frau walked into the room too and lifted Teito. "I don't know, but whatever it is, we'll find out soon enough, and when we do it wont be any good to Teito." He jostled Teito a little when he worked him up in his arms "Come kid, you have to at least sleep normally for one night. Mikage will be here tomorrow again when you come back. He wont run away."
"Hmm havvve to stayyy… might wwwake up." Teito said half sleeping while he still hugged Frau's neck as he was lifted in the males arms.
"I know, but this isn't healthy for you, besides Hakuren is starting to get worried about you. He hasn't seen you in two days. He is interrogating me every time he crosses me in the hallways. Come I will bring you to your room, you will tell that you are doing fine, and I will be left alone. Deal?"
"No, let… go…" Teito tried to argue but he was already asleep before the last words had left his mouth completely.
Frau smiled down at the tired boy in his arms. He hugged him just a little bit tighter to his chest before he turned back to the two other bishops. "I'm gonna bring him to his room and let Hakuren take care of him for the night. I will go out hunting, the scythe is really bugging me since this boy came here." He shrugged towards the bed.
Labrador only nodded and went on with his examination of the boy on the bed.
Castor watched his lover work with all the instruments and seeing he was to busy to care he decided to talk for them both. "Lab will stay here and watch over the boy, while I will make my dolls stand guard. One in front of the door and another in front of the window. This way Lab can warn us as soon as the boy awakes by telling the dolls, and the dolls make sure no-one uninvited will come into this room."
Having listened to what Castor had said and agreeing with it, Frau left the medical wing and walked to the room Teito shared with the other blond haired boy in the church. He heard Teito mumble in his sleep, but it was too incoherent to tell what the boy was really saying. Frau smirked at the boy when he was hugged by him. "If only you liked my company when you were awake."
Reaching the room where he needed to be he kicked his foot against the door to let Hakuren know he wanted to come in. "The door is open, was heard from the other side." Frau kicked again, harder this time. He heard angry foot steps coming to the door. "I said…" the door was yanked open and a flushed Hakuren was seen. "… oh bishop Frau come in. Ah Teito, is he ok, what happened to him." Hakuren stepped out of the way to let Frau enter the room.
"Nothing happened Hakuren, I just brought him here so he could have a decent night of sleep, instead of sleeping in a chair again." Frau placed the boy on the bed and started changing him into a nightshirt. "Please take care of him tomorrow, he might want to go to the boy in the medical wing as soon as he wakes up, but you have to make sure he eats first. Do you understand?"
Hakuren nodded and went to sit on his own bed while watching Frau. "Why can't you make sure he eats yourself. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind to help Teito, he is my friend after all. It just seems right that Teito would listen to you rather than to me."
Frau pulled up his eyebrow as he looked back at Hakuren. "What makes you say that?"
"I don't know how to explain. I have been with him ever since he woke up and told you that he wanted to be alone more. He acts like he doesn't want you to be with him, but I can see thats not totally true. He seems to try and train just a bit harder when you are around" Frau smirked at that. Hakuren looked down at his folded hands in his lap.
"You know, I caught him smiling once when he though no-one was looking. When I went to see what he was smiling at, I saw you. I am not sure if I should tell you this. It is just that even though he doesn't seem to like you he actually really does. He always seems to keep an eye out to you. Always seems to know where you are. He can find you without any problems, but ask him to find his own damn room and he gets lost." Hakuren looked back up at Frau and had a soft smile on his face. "I think it would be best if you would be there for him when he wakes up again."
Frau was speechless. Sure he had heard from Mikhail that Teito did love to have him around even though he didn't show it, but to hear it from Hakuren was kind of shocking. Hakuren still didn't know a lot of what had happened between Frau and Teito or even about Mikhail. But somehow the boy knew that Frau was important to Teito and the other way around. Frau had to keep an eye on this boy, he was more perceptive than was good for him.
Still keeping quiet and finishing to get Teito in bed he turned to Hakuren completely. "Oi, you know it is pretty late. You should go to sleep too. I brought you Teito so you stop following me around with questions, ok?!" Frau petted Hakuren on the head and walked to the door. He turned around to look at Hakuren again. "I wish I could stay with him, but I have something important to take care off first. Lets hope I'm done before…" Frau brushed over his right arm turning away and walking out the door completely, "… before Teito really needs me." He whispered softly as he closed the door.
Hakuren could barely hear what Frau whispered as the door closed, but heard enough to let a shiver run down his spine. He lay down on his side watching Teito sleep peacefully for once. 'He really must have been exhausted. He didn't even seem to have nightmares like usual.' Hakuren sighed and turned on his back, looking at the wall in front of him. He could see the moonlight shining through the window on the wall.
A shadow was suddenly in the light. Hakuren shot up. 'That looked like one of the statues in the gods' towers' he thought as he looked at the window behind him, but nothing was seen through it. He shrugged it of thinking he must be really tired to see things that weren't there. He closed his eyes and drifted of into sleep, happy to know that Teito was all right and back in their shared room again.
Frau stood still against the closed door for a little while. He was sure he would be back before morning, before the boys would be awake. The nuns were already done with their tasks for the night, so there would be no-one passing this hallway anymore till tomorrow morning. Having made a decision he did one step to the side and sat down against the wall. He would leave his body here for the night, that way he could come back here quick enough when the scythe had his share of souls. The only tricky part was that the most delicious soul he knew was behind this door.
Every time the scythe acted up Frau had to leave the church grounds to hunt down some sinned souled to feed on. He didn't like to do it, but it was the only thing he could do to keep the scythe from taking over his mind completely. If the scythe could have his way for one night, eating to his the amount of souls he wanted, he would stay quiet for a while.
Frau really hated the scythe, but he was the only one who could control it. All ghost had their own scythe, but Frau was given the scythe of Verloren himself. After it was found the scythe couldn't be kept locked away, it had to be guarded all the time. This meant that one of the ghost had the duty to protect men from its insanity, while trying to keep his own. Frau knew why the scythe wanted Teito's soul. For some reason, no matter how many people Teito had had to kill as a slave, no sin was put to his soul, making it the brightest soul that excited. The scythe wanted to devour the light that radiated from the boys soul, because the light could hurt it more than anything else. Luckily Frau had managed to keep it quiet by soul hunting once in a while.
But ever since that blond boy Mikage had come to the church, which was now a full three days, Frau had to battle constantly with the scythe. Something about this boy got the scythe to loose control, trying to take Frau with him in its insanity more than ever.
Having the scythe so persistent and Teito just behind the door was not one of Frau's smartest ideas. Frau quickly called on his ghost form and made a run for it, grabbing a hold of the scythe as soon as it came out. "No, you are not gonna have the kid, not now, not ever." he grunted as he fought with the thing.
"grr urgg urrr" was heard from the scythe.
"Oh, fucking shut up and listen to me." He shook the scythe a couple of times.
"GRRG"
Frau smirked, knowing he had won for now and circled the church in his was to the town he had decided to go look for souls tonight.
He passed by the window of Teito's and Hakuren's room and couldn't stop himself looking in one more time to see if the boy was all right. He noticed that he made a shadow on the wall opposite of the window and heard the movement of one of the boys. He vanished the next second, hoping he wasn't seen.
The sun was slowly rising above the horizon. Frau was returning from his night of soul hunting. It disgusted him a bit to see that there were so many people with grave sins on their soul, but he didn't complain for today. Those sinned people had helped him calm down the scythe and he was sure he would be able to go see Teito and the Mikage boy without too much difficulty.
He started to walk to his body, but as soon as he stepped on church ground he knew something was off. He couldn't explain what it was, but there was definitely something wrong. Frau hurried to his body and stood up as soon as he had control over the it again. He crashed down the door of the room he was next to and was shown what he hoped he didn't have to see in some time.
Hakuren was huddled agains the wall furthest away from Teito. He looked up as soon as Frau made his entree. "Bishop Frau, Teito I don't know what is wrong. He suddenly started to release all this red zaiphon, and he keeps repeating that boy's name Mikage." Hakuren pointed at Teito who was still laying on the bed.
Frau only now heard that Teito indeed kept repeating 'Mikage' for some reason. He looked from Hakuren to Teito, back to Hakuren. 'Shit, how do I explain this to him. Should I be honest to the boy?'
Red zaiphon was seen seeping out from Teito's body, but it felt different then the times that Mikhail made his appearance. It didn't feel as hostile, like it would attack anytime soon. Somehow this felt more controlled if that made any sense. It was like Teito knew he was using zaiphon that was not his own and that he knew who he needed to use it on. Luckily it seemed to not want to attack Hakuren or Frau.
"Oi, Hakuren you have to listen to me. I will explain this to you when things calm down again. For now I need you to go get bishop Castor for me." Frau told the boy in a stern voice.
"I wish I could, but I can't move. If I could I would have been looked for any of you, but I just can't. I have no idea about why I can't move." Hakuren said to Frau looking scared as shit.
"You are afraid, and the zaiphon is having an effect on your motor skills. Only there is nothing to worry about. I promise you that nothing will happen to Teito or you while you go look for Castor. The zaiphon around Teito won't do you any harm."
Hakuren looked back at Teito and didn't see any changes even after Frau had stormed in. 'Yeah it seems like Teito isn't even aware that we are here.' He slowly got up and stumbled over to where Frau was standing. He looked up at Frau and received a nod while the man kept looking at Teito. Hakuren turned around the corner leaving the room.
Coming to a sudden halt Hakuren looked up to see that he has already found Castor, no more than two meters from his room's door. "I-I had to go look for you…Teito he…" he managed to get out, before he was straitened up by the bishop.
"I know, don't worry Hakuren-kun. Ask one of the examinee for some clothes that will fit you for the time being. After that go and get some breakfast. I will come for you together with Bishop Frau when Teito is all right again. I promise." Castor told the boy before him.
Castor watched Hakuren hesitantly walk away until he turned another corner and was out of sight. He walked the two meters to the room and looked in to see Frau slowly approaching the boy on the bed. He scrapped his throat before he spoke to the man. "Can you get a hold on Teito and bring him to the medical wing where Mikage is held?"
Frau heard Castor behind him and nodded at the question that was asked. "Yeah, I think I can, but I can't promise that no-one will see him like this if I carry him all the way."
"That won't be a problem. I have made some of my dolls clear the way already. You should be fine walking through the quickest hallways." Castor had more to tell, but he wasn't sure how Frau would react to the news. Deciding that Frau would find out either way, he told the man.
"We had trouble with Mikage just now. Some kors came to attack the medical wing and seemed to react when they came close to the boy. Lab and the dolls are currently fighting them off, while I came to see how Teito was doing. I wasn't sure if you had returned already."
"What is this trouble with Mikage?" Frau asked as he lifted Teito up in his arms and turned to face the other man.
"The kors started to shrill something about returning to Verloren-sama. This seemed to have a reaction on the boy. He started to show a single winged kor and his soul is only half here. I am afraid to find out who the other half of the soul belongs to, but I am afraid I already know."
"Well lets go and find out. I don't like the idea of bringing Teito to the kors, but I cant leave him here either." Frau and Castor walked out the room and made their way to the medical wing to join Labrador in the fight.
After a few hallways Castor decided to ask what was on his mind. "I was wondering what the red zaiphon was doing around Teito's body. It doesn't seem like Mikhail-sama is reacting on his own, the Eye isn't showing." Castor pointed to Teito's hand.
Frau looked down while he kept running. 'I hadn't even looked at his hand, but now that Castor says it, I don't see the Eye either.'
"I don't know glasses, the zaiphon itself feels different too. It is like Teito is controlling it, even though he isn't really awake. I tried to contact Mikhail, but he is not responding and Teito wont wake up." Frau sighed as they neared the room where they needed to go.
Labrador had managed to release all the kors who had been trying to get in the room and was now telling the dolls to bring them to the training grounds for the examinees. It weren't really strong kors, so they would be great for training.
Castor smirked at his lover when he saw him giving orders to his dolls. 'I don't know how he does it, but he is the only one who can order them around without the use of zaiphon. Must be a flaw in my work.'
"Oh Castor, Frau you are both back. How is Teito?" Labrador walked to the two bishops all the while Frau kept Teito in his arms.
"He seems to be still asleep, only this zaiphon is weird. Mikhail is not controlling it, or responding to anything and the zaiphon is not attacking anything either." Frau explained to the younger one. "How is Mikage?" Frau nodded to the boy on the bed.
All three bishops were startled and did a step towards the door when the boy on the bed suddenly got up and walked to them. One wing sprouted behind him and Castor immediately felt the unnatural piece of the soul inside the boy. True to Mikhail's words it was divine. It was not like anything they had come across before, but still it was awfully familiar to them.
As soon as Mikage was in reach of Teito, the said boys eyes snapped open and the zaiphon stopped seeping out. Two round red circles moved around Teito, forming all kinds of words, most in the language of the Gods.
Frau looked down at Teito and didn't see the red eyes he kind of expected to see, but he saw sad green eyes looking up at him. Frau softly set him back on the ground and watched what the boy would do. Teito hadn't said a thing while he stood on his own legs again and turned to Mikage.
"Mikage you are back. What happened to you? How is it possible that you're still alive? I saw you get hit, I saw you fall down." Teito carefully walked to Mikage and when he could he hugged him like his life depended on it.
Mikage smiled sadly at his best friend. "I am sorry Teito, I am so sorry. I shouldn't have come. I should have resisted more. I only brought you in danger. I promised to protect you, but I failed. Please Teito I have to go. I am sorry." Mikage quickly hugged him before he pushed him back to Frau. "I knew it was dangerous to come, but I had to know if you were safe. I have to go Teito, I am sorry."
Teito stumbled back and was steadied when Frau caught him before he could fall sown. "What are you talking about? Why shouldn't you have come? What do you need to resist against? I am not in danger, you are not in danger. The church its safe, it will protect you. I won't let you go back out there. I can't." Teito tried to walk back to Mikage, but he was held back by two strong hands.
"Kid, I think he is telling the truth. Something is wrong with him." Frau tried, but he was hit by light zaiphon attack as soon as he said that.
"No, you are wrong. There is nothing wrong with him." Teito stubbornly said as he walked towards the boy again.
Mikage did a couple of steps back. A nagging feeling was felt inside his head. He had felt this before. When he thought he had died, he had had this feeling to. Someone was talking to him, someone was trying to get control over him. "Teito no, you should stay with them. I can see they care for you."
Teito saw the panic in his friend's eyes. He took another step to the boy, only resulting in the other boy stepping too. "Why? Why can't you stay. Explain to me what happened to you?"
The eyes of Mikage started to change color as he fought with the person who was the owner of the unnatural soul within him. His eyes changed from their natural amber to a violet one and back again. "Teito, please trust me. It is not safe, I am sorry I came. He will know where you are if I stay any longer. I have to protect you. If I don't you will surely be killed. Teito please let me go. Go, I can see these four people care about you. The blond by the door cares as much as I do, and the big one behind you even loves you. Please Teito just trust me." Mikage fell down to his knee, and looked up at Teito. "I have to go, I can't hold him back any longer."
Teito was silent for a while. The two circles around him moved faster and faster.
The three bishops looked behind them when they heard Mikage talk about a second blond, already knowing who it was. "I told you to go get some breakfast Hakuren-kun. Why are you here?" Castor asked agitated.
"I needed to see if Teito was all right. I am sorry bishop Castor. I-I…"
Labrador had a sad smile on his face and looked at Castor while he spoke to Hakuren. "It's all right its good to care about people, but you have to stay there. And promise you will go away whenever we tell you to. Can you promise that?" He looked back at Hakuren.
Hakuren nodded and stayed where he was.
All heads turned back when Teito started to speak again. "NO, I won't. Every time someone tells me to trust them, they get hurt, or die. I won't trust anyone and anything anymore. I will only trust myself."
Frau had to swallow when he heard what Teito said. He finally heard from Teito himself why he didn't trust him anymore. He couldn't help the whispered 'Teito' that escaped his lips.
Teito didn't hear Frau and went on, "It is my turn to protect you, to protect everyone. No-one I care for will ever be hurt again because of me. Tell me who is trying to get control over you. Who is making you suffer."
A tear fell from Mikage's eye. "No Teito, you have to keep being safe. I cant have you loose your life because of me. I learned who you are and what you hold. You have to safe your people no matter what."
"Tell me who is making you suffer, TELL ME."
"I can't Teito, you will go after him, and you will not win as you are now. You have to get strong in order to safe your people from their hardship. BE SAFE, TEITO!" Mikage leaped up and managed with the help of the kor wing and some zaiphon to get away through the window, letting five speechless people behind.
Teito tried to go after Mikage but was held back as two arms were thrown around him. "Please just listen to him. He is trying to protect you."
Hakuren had ran from the place he was hiding as soon as he saw Mikage go through the window. He knew he had to try and stop Teito from following that boy, from being killed.
"Let me go Hakuren." Teito began to focus the zaiphon around him into an attack, not really realizing how much he could hurt the other boy with it.
Frau quickly stepped forwards and threw Hakuren back from Teito towards Castor who neatly caught the boy. "Teito go, I'll follow."
Teito snapped his head to Frau. "No, you will not, you will stay here and keep Hakuren safe."
"You almost attacked Hakuren yourself just now, and you tell me to keep him safe. I don't think so gaki. You and I both know that you will follow that Mikage boy no matter what we say, and I rather be around you when you face him again. He is being controlled and I promised Mikhail to keep you safe." Frau said and tried placing a hand on Teito's shoulder.
Snapping when he heard what Frau had said he started to yell. "YOU PROMISED MIKHAIL. YOU PROMISED AN ANGEL TO KEEP ME SAFE, WITHOUT EVEN ASKING ME WHAT I THINK ABOUT IT. I WILL GET MIKAGE BACK SAFE AND I DONT NEED YOUR HELP FOR THAT." Teito did a step away from Frau. Calming a little he added, "I don't want to see you get hurt too, please. I lost too many already."
Frau could see the sadness in Teito's eyes and was frozen on the spot when Teito whent after Mikage.
"What was that about?" Hakuren asked to no-one in particular.
Castor looked down at the boy he had caught. Looking at Lab they silently agreed to let Hakuren sleep for a while, while they worked out what had happened just now. Castor placed his hand on Hakuren's forehead and carried him to the bed Mikage had been in not so long ago. "I think that as long Hakuren-kun still don't know about us, he might as well learn about Teito and Mikhail. I will tell him when this is all over together with Teito."
Labrador nodded and walked over to Frau who still hadn't moved since Teito had flown after Mikage. "Go after him Frau. He told you he doesn't want your help, but that is only because he is afraid to loose you. Go and help Teito-kun. I am certain that Mikage wont hurt Teito, but the other soul that infested the poor kid will." Labrador softly shook Frau to get his attention. "You saw the color change in the boy's eyes too, didn't you? You know from who they were, there is only one person who is able to mess with souls like this and has that color of eyes."
Frau nodded. "Yeah, I did recognize it. It's Ayanami, isn't it. It's the guy who made Teito run away from the military to begin with." Frau looked from the window to Castor, who was placing Hakuren on the bed, to Labrador. "I'm going after him!"
Labrador saw the determination in Frau's eyes and smiled at it. "Be careful Frau, the plants are afraid that Ayanami will trigger more in Teito than is good for him at the moment." Labrador felt Frau change to his ghost self and caught the body when it fell to the ground.
"Good luck Frau"
"Good luck, you big oaf" Castor said as he ran to Labrador to help the little man carry the heavy body of their friend.
Mikage searched for a place inside the church where he could hide. It had to be somewhere where there were no other people around. He didn't want to hurt anyone. He knew he could not hide form Teito forever, he never had. The boy was a failure in finding his way around buildings, but when he was looking for a certain person he always found them, no matter where they were. He knew that Teito wouldn't let him go.
While Mikage was flying he admired the church while he could and thought of how he had met Teito. He had never been to the church before. Before he had been admitted to the military he had only been at one place.
His family was poor and had to work as servants in the Oak household. Every member of his family was either a maid or a butler, but because he had gotten a scar on his face he was not allowed to work there anymore. He was sent together with this Shuri Oak to the military academy. He was told he was not allowed to show his face to the royal guests, but that he would still be useful to aid Shuri in his study.
Of course as soon as they had gotten to the academy Shuri had ignored him completely, telling him he didn't want to be seen with anyone from low status. This made it that he had met Teito. Teito always was a loner. He never spoke to anyone and always sat alone on the roof when it was lunch or dinner time. At first Mikage had been a little afraid to go to this boy, but when that boy was being picked on and didn't do anything back he unconsciously wanted to help him.
From the day that he had helped to boy, or so he felt he had, Mikage had made sure he was always with Teito. In time Teito started to talk to him and they even became friend. Mikage never had a friend and it turned out that neither had Teito. They had made a promise to always be together and protect each other, no matter what would happen.
Mikage felt tears leak from his eyes. He had failed the promise he had made to Teito by coming here. 'How could I have been this stupid?!' His sight was caught by the field below him. 'Is this still the church?' Under him was a field covered in all kinds of flowers. There were pink flowers, purple flowers, red, yellow, blue and even silver flowers. He slowly began to go down. It would be a shame to ruin all this plants and flowers, but at least it looked like no one was around or even close to it.
As soon as Mikage got his feet back on the ground he had to fight with Ayanami again. He was slowly loosing the battle in controlling his mind and body. Ayanami was trying to take over his own soul completely.
Teito had found Mikage and landed in front of him. "Mikage, what's happening." He asked when he noticed his friends eyes rapidly changing color form amber to violet. He took a step forward, but was stopped as Mikage put his hand in front of him.
"No, stop. Get away from me." Mikage grunted out.
'You must end Teito Klein's life.' Mikage grabbed for his head. "I can't do that!"
'Are you gonna betray me?'
"No, I am not betraying anyone! I WILL PROTECT MY MOST PRECIOUS FRIEND." Mikage yelled as he threw both his hands in his hair.
"Mikage what are you talking about?" Teito was forcing more and more zaiphon around him as he got more worried about Mikage.
"I knew this would happen, and still I made the selfish choice to see how you were doing. I am sorry Teito, I failed you as a friend."
"What are you talking about, I don't get it. What is happening to you?"
"I have one last favor to ask of you… please… kill me!" Mikage whispered. "Please its the only way. Do it while I am still in control. Ayanami… Ayanami he is trying to get to you Teito.
"W-What… Ayanami? I can't kill you, there has to be another way!" Teito was beginning to panic.
"There is not Teito, this is the only option you'll have. You have to kill me. Otherwise he is going to kill you. Teito please let this be the one thing I can still do to be able to safe you."
"I can't do that. Tell me how I can help you without having to kill you."
Mikage stumbled a few steps backwards, he was loosing his battle with Ayanami. "I can't hold him back any longer, he will know where you are. DAMN IT. How can I betray you when you are my friend, you are family to me."
"Mikage, what is happening?" Teito was frozen on the spot where he stood.
"Ayanami, he made me choose. Betray my family and safe you or betray you and safe them. I can't choose Teito, you are just as important as my family."
Mikage was screaming by the time Frau found them. Teito was leaning back on his legs, seeming to want to run, but frozen in all his movements. Mikage had fallen down to the ground, pulling at his hair as he was screaming out to Teito to run for it.
All of a sudden Mikage stopped screaming. "Teito the day I talked to you for the first time, I felt so warm and happy. You are and will be my precious friend forever. That's why Teito, I beg you. Kill me, while I am still me. Before I end up hurting you!"
"No way, Ayanami even got to you. He got my father, my uncle, my guards and now he got you too?!"
"Daisuki dayo, Teito."
"You won't get away, Teito Klein. I will always obtain what I want."
"Goodbye, Teito."
Red zaiphon was shown around Mikage's hands before he started to attack. He ran the little distance between him and Teito and aimed for Teito's head.
Teito forgot how to move, he knew he had to use some zaiphon to either block the attack or make a run for it, but he couldn't. He could not strike out to his best friend. He could not fight a friend when it was for real.
Frau saw the hesitation within Teito and leaped forward to get him out of Ayanami's attack. The hit only missed by a little, but it was enough to have Teito unhurt.
"Foolish Ghost, I do not care if you try saving him now or later. I will get Teito Klein no matter what you try to. You can't stop me."
'This guy is not Mikage anymore' both Frau and Teito thought at the same time.
Frau grabbed Teito and threw him over his shoulder. He would get Teito away from here. He needed to find a safe place where he could safe Mikage of the hold of Ayanami had on him. But where should he go? Frau made a run for it. He knew there was some place inside the church that would be perfect for this situation. A place were you couldn't enter without being given permission by the church itself. It was a place deep within the mysteries that was surrounded by what the church people saw.
Jumping up and in the air he looked down to where Ayanami still was struggling with the body of Mikage. The flower beds and the many plans that Labrador had nurtured here were now ruined. Sadly there was nothing he could about it right now. His top priority was getting Teito and the people of this church in safety while he dealt with the controlled boy.
Red angry zaiphon attacks soon followed Frau into the air. It was only because Teito was escaping his frozen state that he was not hurt by it. Teito was making a defensive barrier around them every time a new attack was thrown at them. Frau was amazed to see how much power Teito was able to get by wielding the eye within him without showing Mikhail, or being controlled by Mikhail.
Frau rounded a corner and found the door he was looking for. Three spirits of the church itself came to try and stop Frau as he was about to enter.
"You have been given permission to enter the bridge of trials inside the church, the one you are carrying is not, neither is the one that is following you. We will not let you go trough this door today Zehel."
"Oh, be quiet. Go whine to the Chief of Heaven for all I care. I don't have time for this. I will get in that place, even if I have to break down the door myself. You can either open the door for me, or I will do it myself." Frau growled out to the spirits. "Now, make up those mind of yours and let me through."
"This will not be the last you hear of it Zehel." One of the church spirits said but quickly opened the door, seeing Zehel was serious about his threat.
Frau shot himself forward into the place called the bridge of trials that he had been hoping to reach. It was risky to bring not only himself, but also a brat, an Angel and Verloren himself here, even if it was half of Verloren. But this was the only place he could think of that would be truly safe for the people around the church.
Teito looked at were they had come from, seeing that the door had already closed. He thought that he might had missed him so he started to look around. The place where they were was enormous. In front and behind him were all doors made inside the wall. Connecting two doors were ways or roads on which you could stand. The place seemed to go on forever, there was no way in telling if it ended somewhere. Either you looked up, or down, left or right, the doors and ways just went on and on.
"Frau I think we lost Mikage. We need to go back, we have to safe Mikage."
Frau put Teito down to his feet again and slowly turned him around to look at where he was looking. In front of them Mikage was already standing with an accomplices smirk on his face.
"H-How can he be in front of us?"
"This is a magical place Teito, it doesn't matter through what door you'll enter. Even if you enter through the same door there is no telling that you will seeing each other in here. The fact that Mikage or Ayanami managed to be in front of us means that he knows what this place is and is able to manipulate it to some extent."
Teito swallowed, this could not mean something good.
"No more playing tag, Teito, Zehel. This is going to end now. I will bring Teito Klein with me." Ayanami extended his one wing and bended it in front of him.
"Ayanami, how could you do this to my friend, to my father to my uncle? Why did you not target me directly instead of manipulating and killing them?!"
"Originally I just wanted to kill you for spying on me and escaping when I had thrown you in prison. But I have learned something interesting along the way." Ayanami was lost out of sight and reappeared in between Frau and Teito. "You have two things that I really want to have in my possession. The first is the eye of mikhail, you so genially could hide from me somehow. The other is my real body. I want it back." Was whispered in Teito's ear.
Frau called on the scythe and tried to slash Mikage with it but was stopped easily by Ayanami.
"So, this is were you are." He said to the scythe and looked at Frau "I will need this back too."
Teito was loosing it. 'What happened to you Mikage, what has Ayanami done to you? You would always laugh, you would always be there with me. You were my friend. How could I have let this happen to you? You saved me from myself when I was in the military, and saved me again when I was trying to escape it. I HAVE TO SAVE MIKAGE. IT IS MY TURN TO SAFE YOU!' More and more zaiphon was released around Teito.
'If I can destroy that wing, maybe Mikage will be able to go back to normal. I trained with Hakuren enough to know that destroying the wings will bring the people back and will exterminate the kor.' Teito focussed all his own zaiphon and some of Mikhail's around his hands and started forming words that would destroy the wings. He shot out a few words, but missed every single time. 'He is just too fast.'
"Teito watch out!" Frau yelled at the kid who had gone to attack the boy in front of them, but he was already to late. Frau was still trying to get the scythe to do what he wanted. Having the presence of his old owner nearby made it difficult to handle it, let alone strike out to the blond boy. This made him notice too late that Teito had ran away from him, away to where he could not protect the boy as easily.
Teito was hit by an attack in the back and fell to the ground hard.
"You don't stand a chance. Don't you understand, I am not a kor. If you sever this wing, this body will die."
'Shit, I can't safe Mikage this way. There has to be another way.' "I am never gonna abandon Mikage, we made a promise. We would always protect each other."
"You are a fool, if you think Mikage's soul will return. All who defy me must be punished. To protect you he has betrayed not only the army twice, but also betrayed his family. He deserves to die because of that." Ayanami grabbed Teito by the neck and pulled him up. "Oh I see that Mikhail has turned the shackles into a collar, how nice of him. Saves me some effort." He bit his thumb on his other hand and smeared some blood over the collar, turning it into a promise collar. He released the boy as soon as he was done.
"Why don't you just kill me now?"
"I have orders to bring you back alive."
"By who?"
"By Chairman Miroku."
"That means that if I die you'll be in trouble. I will kill myself for the sake of Mikage" He made words circle his throat, only having to clench his fist to kill himself now.
"No Teito don't do it!" Frau tried to go to him, but was stopped when an attack was thrown his way.
"Suicide is considered a form of resistance." The collar around Teito's neck instantly worked, blocking all of Teito's zaiphon. The shock of the pain made him loose consciousness and fall to the ground.
Frau saw what happened and was finally able to move forward to try and help Teito. The only thing he could do though was prevent him from falling too hard to the ground. He caught Teito and cradled him in his arms. "What did you do to him?"
"Nothing Zehel, I made sure he couldn't kill himself."
'This cant be true, I can't stop here. I need to safe Mikage. I REFUSE TO GIVE UP. MIKHAILLL, I NEED YOUR HELP.'
'Yes, master. We will work together. You will get all the power I have for your own use. You may control my whole being. Your wish will my mine. Step forward and show who you are! You are the prince of Raggs. You will lead your people to peace. You are my rightful owner.'
Ayanami was crying. He didn't know why but their were tears leaking from his eyes over his cheeks. 'What is this? Tears?' Drops of tears were falling down on Teito.
Frau felt power go through Teito as he held him. Power he had never felt before. The collar around Teito's neck began to let out an alarm, showing the words danger repeatedly. Frau tried to hold on to Teito but couldn't. Teito was slowly being lifted by an unseen, but powerful force.
Teito's whole body began to glow red, the Eye that hadn't shown itself for some time was finally seen on his right hand. Red eyes snapped open as the body leveled itself towards Ayanami "You who have made this collar a promise collar have harmed my master. I will not let you walk away with this. Remove this collar at once."
Mikhail jumped forward and tried to attack Ayanami, but the man was fast enough to put a defensive barrier around himself. Bone like structure was formed around the barrier, trying to penetrate it at all possible angles. Mikhail was thrown away when bone came in contact with the barrier, resulting in a explosion.
'Even with the limiter he is this powerful.' Ayanami thought to himself.
'Master I can not access my full power with this collar on.' "Remove this at once" Mikhail said as he let a power wave radiate from its body, destroying all the ways that were near and destroying the barrier that kept Ayanami safe just a minute ago.
Ayanami jumped forward. There were three command that could be given to a promise collar. 'Bind, sleep and pain.' Pain was the one he had used at first to get Teito unconscious and stop his suicide act. Now that it seems that having Teito unconscious didn't matter, as Mikhail had made his entree, he tried a different command. "Bind." Instantly glowing ropes were thrown around Teito's body and were securely held by Ayanami. "I am not support to take your life, but you are too dangerous to be kept alive." He pulled the glowing rope around his neck tighter and tighter.
Mikhail tried to attack Ayanami, but without air the body of his master would not function as it should and would eventually die. He moved Teito's right hand to the glowing rope, trying to snap it with his last attack, but as soon as he tried he was already back on the ground, catching his breath.
Frau had seen what Ayanami did to Teito and Mikhail and was blessed that for once the scythe did listen to him. The scythe wanted to have Teito's soul for himself, even his former owner was not allowed to steal that from him. The scythe and Frau managed to snap all the roped that held Teito before it was too late.
"You stole the kid's precious friend and was about to steal a soul your own scythe has his eyes on. I will not let that go unpunished." The scythe was rilled up to fight for his meal, only aiding Frau in his battle.
Frau and Ayanami were both fighting each other when Teito came back from unconsciousness. 'Master are you all right to try and fight again. If not I can fight for you.'
Teito felt awkward at how he had called for Mikhail when he was about to loose consciousness, but in all honesty he didn't mind. He was glad to know that even though he had treated Mikhail badly, the Angel would still be there for him no matter what. 'Can I use your power when I want to?' he asked Mikhail.
'Yes master, whenever you want you can either use my power and your own, though right now your power is blocked and mine is limited. I will either lend you advice like now, or fight for you like I did when you were unconscious.'
'Thanks Mikhail, I will try for myself right now.'
Frau had managed to get Ayanami by his neck, while the scythe prevented him from backing away as it was positioned against his back. "It seems that you have been trying to harm one of our people within this sanctuary."
"As arrogant as ever I see… Zehel."
"May god be with you."
"Frau you have to safe Mikage."
'I am in a disadvantage if I keep fighting like this. If my own scythe is helping one of the 7 ghost there is no guarantee I will win this' Ayanami though to himself as he observed the situation he was in.
'Shit Mikage's soul is being consumed by the kor.' Frau knew what the hesitant meant as soon as he had a hold on Ayanami. "Bastard, you have been abusing this boy for your own personal games. You were never intending to let the boy life, no matter what he choose to do."
"Wait Frau, Mikage is still alive…"
"Teito Klein, you will suffer more pain and sorrow than you can fantom. His soul is doomed to wander for all eternity, never getting a chance for a second try."
Frau had heard Teito's plea, but there wasn't really anything he could do about it. 'If I use this scythe I will destroy his soul. There is no guarantee that he will be able to return to the Chief of Heaven.'
Ayanami smirked as he grabbed the scythe and pushed it through Mikage's body. He destroyed that little bit of soul that was still left within the body together with the body itself. Frau and Teito were shocked, how could Ayanami do this. "If you want revenge for what I did, come get your vengeance on the Imperial army. I will be waiting, Teito klein."
Teito ran toward Mikage, but was held back by Frau.
"Oh, Zehel remember to return my scythe to me. I will await you too. In the meantime, please treat it with care."
Mikage's eyes turned back to amber. Frau couldn't feel the presence of Verloren anymore so he let Teito go.
"Mikage, MIKAGE!" Teito ran up to the boy. As soon as he reached him he jumped up and hugged his best friend. White feathers were spread all around the two. Slowly Mikage's body dissolved leaving nothing behind as the feathers kept rising higher and higher.
Teito fell down on his knees. He was devastated by the loss of his best friend, his first friend. He felt that Frau went to carry him off to where-ever. He couldn't really care anymore. He had again lost one of the people he trusted.
"Are you still alive" Frau asked when he had returned to his body and was walking to one of the guest rooms still having Teito in his arms. He didn't want to have Hakuren see how Teito was know.
"The academy was a place where you were shunned if you were different. As soon as I was made to enter, they began to talk about me. They said I was Miroku's sklave and that everyone who came near me would get sick or die. Mikage was the only one who was different. He didn't care about what the others said. He made me his friend even though I told him not to. He always accepted me for me, not who I was said to be. He was always complaining about what I ate, saying that Yakisoba was the best thing and that I should start eating that." Tears were streaming don't Teito's face. He tried to hide it by looking down but Frau could see it anyway.
"One day he noticed that I skipped a lot of lessons and asked me about it. I couldn't tell him that whenever I was not in class Miroku-sama had me killing off people as the sklave I was. I told him it was none of his business, but I think he knew it even without me telling. When I missed classes in the evening he would always sneak into my bed at night to check if I was all right. Why did he care so much about me, what was it to him to know if I was all right."
Frau had managed grabbed the jacket of Mikage that had been left behind in the medical wing. When he placed Teito on the bed when he had entered the room, he gave it to him. Teito instantly curled up around it. Frau didn't know what to say and wanted to give to boy some rest. He placed a blanket over him and started to leave the room.
"Mikage's words were always said straight from his heart, always honest and fair."
Teito's tears began to stream harder down his face. 'Mikage was my light.'
Frau looked one more time at Teito before he left the room, he would go check up on the boy tomorrow for breakfast.
