Two weeks after the Hong Kong Shatterdome jaegers turn human.
"Alright, give me the rundown. What did you find?"
"We were able to salvage his equipment from the fire, but his body remains to be found."
"Hm, our 'benevolent funders' at the U.N won't be too happy to hear that. Just heap as much blame on Geizler as you can, in the meantime we'll just have to get all our data from what he programmed into that little machine of his. "
"Way ahead of you, General. Results have already been compiled. " A ruby red smirk graced the tanned woman's lips as she motioned out the observatory window to the organized chaos below.
Part junkyard, part laboratory, their base of operations was based in an airplane hangar just large enough to house the jaeger parts and towering pieces of scientific equipment that cluttered the space. Pristine white lab coats mixed with greasy overalls as scientists mixed with mechanics and engineers, the crew of the OJRP. Most were clustered around a strange object in the middle, hovering around it like moths over a flame.
The object in question was a six foot tall, rectangular monolith of super-computer parts and wires. A low hum emanated from it as between the cracks of its metallic casing, the purple hue of kaiju organics could be seen throbbing and pulsing. This was Dr. Geizler's mysterious creation, a mix of human and precursor technology. It was the most advanced piece of technology on the planet. Now if only General Briggs could figure out how to use it…
"So, how does it work, exactly?" He growled, pacing the back and forth across the viewing area.
"We're working on it," the doctor responded, rolling her chocolate brown eyes behind her sleek glasses. "My techies have already hacked through preliminary firewalls and into the basic code, from there on it becomes precursor and things get messy. It's far more advanced than anything we have ever seen, but I think we've already figured out its main function."
"Excellent," the General smiled, wrapped an arm around her waist. "This is why I married you, Angelique. You get me results."
"Don't get sweet on me till I tell you what it does, Jeb." Angelique replied, exasperated.
"Then go ahead, no one's stopping you."
"It's a type of genetic coding machine. Apparently all it needs is organic material and some type of mental imprint, then it can start stitching together living bodies. Maybe that's why Geizler used the jaegers. You can get entire personalities based off the drift residue of veteran pilots. Smart little man."
"Doesn't explain why he did it, though."
"Maybe because of this," she handed him a clipboard, which he squinted at until she turned it right side up for him. "See these readings? This is the heart of the machine, all precursor organics. From what we can tell…well…"
"Spit it out, love."
"there's something in there. We don't know what, but what we do know is that it's very, very powerful."
"Enough said. I want it."
"We'll have to unlock it, first. I don't know how, though."
General Briggs strode to the window, looking out over the hanger with a searching eye. His gaze landed on the dented and crumpled conn pod of Tacit Ronin that sat in the corner, pilfered from Oblivion Bay. Slowly, he smiled. "Maybe Geizler was onto something. It can convert jaegers to human, but why? Maybe the key to unlocking its power is in them?"
"Jeb, are you saying..?' The short woman grabbed his arm.
"Yeah," his yellowed grin grew wider, "let's start experimenting."
MORE FLASHBACK! I know ya'll just love flashbacks! *gets shot*I got A LOT of messages from people asking about the OJRP, and I decided to fill in a little bit of backstory for them before moving ahead. IDK if I like this chapter, might revise it later. Basically, they just want to extract all the precursor tech from the hu!jaegers that they can, then use it for their own means. Sorry for stupid plot.
ALSO YES THE EVIL GENERAL HAS AN EVIL WIFE OF SCIENCE! He met her years back when he was on leave in South America. He saw her kick a puppy and fell instantly in love. XP
