MEANWHILE, AT THE HONG KONG SHATTERDOME

Raleigh was just beginning to wonder if this was a good idea. He had never sat so rigid, sweat collecting underneath his sky blue sweater as the stares of the Kaidenovsky's pierced into him like twin daggers.

The jaeger pilot clenched his jaw apprehensively, "I was just asking how…you know…you two did it."

From across the metal table, Aleksis leaned back and crossed his arms, while Sasha leaned forward, wolfish eyes glinting with a dark light. "It was right after Cherno's first victory. Aleksis couldn't wait so it happened in the cockpit. Moya lyubov, he was wonderful."

Raleigh's face paled as the big Russian man turned a deep shade of red. "How did he….you know… I need details."

"You ask too much, Becket. All he did was drop to his knees. "

"And?"

"And then he proposed," the woman shrugged, a wistful smile of his lips. "-And then we went back out there and killed another kaiju." Her eyes suddenly narrowed, "You seem too curious about this for your own good."

Aleksis's perpetual scowl deepened as the American frantically tried to back pedal. "No, I didn't mean anything by it. I should go-"

That was when Mako Mori entered the mess hall, hair glistening from the shower, Raleigh's pilot jacket warmly draped around her. Flashing him a small grin, she headed over to get breakfast. Blushing profusely, he waved back.

The second her back was turned, Sasha had grabbed a fistful of shirt and pulled Raleigh close. He could smell the leathery residue of their pilot gear clinging to their muscular bodies as they affixed him with knowing glares. He felt very much like a mouse being sized up by two hawks.

"You…wish to propose to Mori," Aleksis grunted.

"I guess the cat's out of the bag," he whispered back, praying that Mako was too busy getting pancakes to notice their conversation. "I just don't know how to do it. She's just so…."a far off look crept onto his face, a ghost of a smile gracing his lips. "She deserves the best. I need to know how to give her the best proposal ever."

The Russian couple exchanged looks. "Well….how many men have you killed?"

"What?! None!"

"Scratch that approach,' Sasha tutted. "How many rings do you have for her?"

"Just one. Why, how many do I need?"

Sasha held up her hands, allowing the myriad of glistening gems wrapped around them to shine in the light. "This many."

Raleigh rubbed the back of his neck, frowning. "What if she doesn't like that? I want to do something she likes, and tell her how much I want to marry her-"

"Marry who?" Mako set her tray down on the table, the clatter startling her co-pilot to the point where he almost jumped out of his seat. Sasha and Aleksis were suddenly absorbed in their own trays, seemingly oblivious to the rest of the world.

A million swearwords raced through his head as he gazed up into those sparkling almond eyes. This was a nightmare. His heart seemed to stop as he opened his mouth, 'Mako, I-"

"Teams Gipsy Danger and Cherno Alpha!" Tendo burst into the mess hall, "The marshal just sent a message, you have five minutes to get on the helicopter!"

"What," was the overall response from the four pilots.

"The rest of the shatterdome is loading up, we're heading out to help Marshal Pentecost!"

"What happened?" Mako clenched her fists, frowning worriedly.

"Well, first off, apparently he found Newt. And secondly," his voice dropped, "your jaegers might have gone off on some dangerous infiltration mission and never returned."

Trays were pushed off of tables and jackets were haphazard put on as the pilots stormed out of the mess hall, pictures of fresh faced teenagers in their heads, of a dark haired girl that loved to mail them crayon pictures, of a hulking boy that loved to cuddle cute puppies as much as he loved punching people. They thought of the hot-headed Aussie who liked to fight, and his best friend who all he wanted to do was impress his three brothers and protect his friends.

Well, wherever those kids were, they shouldn't worry. Their family was coming to save them.

TO BE CONTINUED! sorry for taking so long to update (throws excuses at you) This is an in between chapter, I wanted to kinda show what the pilots were doing while the main events were happening, or else their appearance in the next chapter or so might not make any sense.
