3 weeks later….
Brooke got out of bed, she still had two months of pregnancy, but she refused to stop going to work. She was trying to get everything ready for her leave.
Sam was already up. Jack and her were having breakfast.
"Sam that room better be clean when I come back from work. I'm tired of looking at your mess." Brooke griped as she came into the kitchen..
"Jack what're you doing here?" She asked when he came into view.
"Nice to see you too, Ms. Davis."
Sam glared at Brooke, "Someone's not in a good mood."
"No, not really." Brooke responded.
Sam went over to her mom's office where Brooke was headed and put down a cup of coffee, "Here. I made you some."
Brooke looked up at Sam, "Samantha, I can't drink coffee."
Sam took a deep breath. Brooke had been so moody, but tried her best not to blame her, "Sorry. I forgot." She picked up the coffee mug and headed out, "I was just trying to help." She mumbled to herself. Brooke heard her. She stopped stuffing things into her bag and frowned, "Samantha, wait."
Sam turned back around, "Yeah?"
"Are you leaving now?"
"Yeah. Jack has a tutoring session." She then looked a bit more subdued, " I just wanted to say bye before I left."
Brooke bit her lip, "Come here Sam."
Sam trudged over, and Brooke gently cupped her cheeks, and gave her a kiss on her forehead, "I'm sorry."
"I get it, it's the baby."
Brooke smiled at Sam's ability to be so understanding, "Have a nice day Sammy. I love you."
Sam nodded, "You too, Brooke. See you later."
…. ….. …..
Sawyer was on her way to school, after meeting with the police department. It turns out that Chase was being charged with sexual harassment. He was possibly facing juvie, but it was most likely going to be community service.
Peyton looked over at her daughter, "Soy are you going to stop with the silent treatment, anytime soon?"
Sawyer shrugged her shoulders.
"Your father and I are not going to apologize for calling the police."
Sawyer shook her head in anger, "You're ruining his life!"
"And so she speaks."
"Why are you okay with ruining a 17 year old's whole future, over something he already regrets! You're crazy!"
Peyton looked at her hysterical daughter as she parked the car, "Sawyer WHY ARE YOU DEFENDING HIM?!"
Her voice cracked, "I know he made a mistake, but I don't want him to go to jail for this!"
Peyton knew Sawyer was in denial, and it hurt her heart, "Sweetie." She said grabbing a hold of her shoulders, "He took advantage of you? Do you understand me?" Sawyer's eyes were now teeming with tears. "No."
Peyton steeled herself, "Yes, yes he did. He purposely took you into a room."
Sawyer shook, "Stop." She said quietly.
"He tried to have sex with you!"
Sawyer pushed Peyton off, "STOP IT! Stop!" Her voice was filled with sorrow as the tears now flowed freely from her eyes. Peyton was stunned. "Sawyer."
"I hate you." She undid the seatbelt and snatched her bag slamming the door, and walked into school, but Peyton didn't give up. She got out the car.
"Sawyer!" She yelled.
Sawyer turned around, "Leave. Me. Alone!" The few students outside looked at the two. Peyton walked/ran to catch up to her daughter. She grabbed her arm, "Sawyer, stop this."
"Stop what?" She asked annoyed now, "You and dad have successfully ruined everything. Everyone in this stupid school is talking about what happened. Do you know what it's like to be that girl?"
"Sawyer, I'm sorry. I'm sorry that this all happened the way it did."
"YOU SHOULD'VE KNOWN!" Sawyer exclaimed, "You endorsed his dad! The mayor! You were all over the news. Did you think breaking it off, and having dad freak out on him at a press conference, wouldn't make news?! Are you that stupid?!"
Peyton pulled her arm, "Do NOT disrespect me Sawyer Scott. Unless you want me to yank you back into the car this instant."
Sawyer lowered her gaze.
"Don't you do that. Look at me now. Do you understand me? I don't want any disrespect."
Sawyer rolled her eyes, "Fine." She mumbled.
"No, NOT fine. That is NOT an apology little miss." Peyton said gravely.
"Okay, gosh!" She replied annoyed, "I'm sorry."
Peyton took a deep breath looking at her saddened daughter, "Sawyer." She now said softly.
But Sawyer just looked away.
"I'm sorry Sawyer. I know this is affecting you in more ways than one. I know we could've gone about this better. Bug, I'm sorry."
She could see Sawyer swallow the lump in her throat. She sighed, knowing trying to talk to her now was pointless. She kissed the top of her head, with no protest from Sawyer, "I love you to the moon and back. Go to class." She said softly.
Peyton watched her daughter walk away
… …. ….. …
"Good afternoon." Victoria said towards Brooke.
"Hey Victoria." Brooke grumbled.
"Really Brooke, why are you still here? You're miserable. I have everything under control for you, and you can come back when you're ready."
Brooke put her things down, "I have a hard time trusting you. Forgive me." She said sarcastically.
Victoria just rolled her eyes, "Whatever. I need you to sign some things."
"What is it?" Brooke asked suspiciosly.
"Papers to cede power from me to you."
"Very funny."
"They're just design confirmations." She said putting it on Brooke's desk. Victoria watched her sign them. She felt a hint of pride in her daughter and smiled.
"I also came to tell you that I'm heading to New York for the weekend, but I'll be back on Monday. Just in case you're trying to reach me."
Brooke looked at her curiously, "Okay? Thanks for letting me know."
Suddenly Brooke felt light headed, "Victoria, wait." She said as she tried getting up.
"What?" Victoria asked.
Brooke then fell to the ground. Victoria panicked, "Oh my God, BROOKE!" She opened the door to the office, "Call an ambulance!" She went over to Brooke, "Sweetheart. Brooke, can you hear me?"
Brooke could only nod, someone came in to report to the dispatcher the situation. Victoria looked down and saw the blood. She felt her heart stop, 'The Baby.' She thought.
…. …. ….
Sam was in class when the principal whispered something into the teaher's ear.
"Ms. Davis." He called.
"Huh?"
"Please go to the office."
Sam looked at him suspiciously, "What did I do?"
The teacher cleared his throat, "You're not in trouble I assure you. But please go."
Sam rolled her eyes, "Okay...I guess.
When Sam walked into the principal's office, she saw Michael and Haley, "What's going on?" She asked now sensing that something wasn't right. "Michael, were you crying? What's wrong? Did something happen to Sawyer?" Her eyes bulged.
Haley stood up, "Sweetie, um, Brooke...is in the hospital."
Sam 's world stopped, "The, the what? Wait, why? Is she okay, what happened?"
Haley shook her head, "Sam I don't know. We just know that she's in critical condition. She fainted and started hemorrhaging. That's all we know. Your dad's on his way from his set, right now."
Sam felt her knees wobble, "Critical condition?" Her voice was meek, "She's, she's hurt bad?"
Michael stood up, "Come on Sam. Let's go to the hospital and see her."
She didn't move. Haley got closer, "Honey?"
Sam shook her head, "No, no, no, no, no." She kept repeating.
Haley squeezed her hand, "I know, Sam, I know...come on. Your mom needs you right now."
Sam nodded and was silent. She got into the car because she knew that's what she had to do, but she felt her whole world begin to crumble. Haley saw the two quiet kids in the back. Michael holding onto Sam's hand.
"Sweeties, it'll all be okay. I promise. Your mom will be fine." She said, trying to reassure herself as well.
Sam looked up, almost angrily, "You don't know that, so don't say it."
Haley said nothing, knowing she was right.
Once at the hospital they all hastily reached the receptionist, "Hi, we're here for Brooke Davis, She was a recent transport."
She nodded, "Yes, they're stopping the hemmoraghing now. I'll alert the doctor. Is her husband here? We need consent for certain procedures."
Sam spoke up, "I'm her daughter. What do you mean procedures?"
The receptionist shook her head, I'm sorry, I need to speak to her husband."
Sam balled her hands into fists, "Can you just tell me what's wrong with my mom?!"
Just then Julian burst through the doors with Peyton and Nathan right behind, "Hey, hey, I'm here! I'm here! Brooke! Where's Brooke?!" He called.
The receptionist stood up, "Sir, are you her husband?"
"Yes, yes. What's wrong with her?"
The doctor was called and he came, "Mr. Baker, I'm Dr. Wong. Please walk with me."
Sam and Michael followed, but a nurse stopped them, "Only him kids. I'm sorry."
Sam looked at her incredulously, "Why can't I know what's going on with my mom? Can someone please tell me. Just tell me!" She felt like she was going crazy.
Hearing the desperation in his daughter's voice, Julian stopped walking and went over to the two scared teenagers, "I'll tell you when I come back. I need you both to sit tight and trust me." He then looked at Haley, who gave him a nod, and he walked with the doctor.
…. ….. ….
Julian walked in and saw a half dazed Brooke, "Sweetie." He ran to her side and grabbed her hand, "Julian...the kids?" She asked.
"They're okay." He responded pouring all his attention on her.
Julian looked her up and down, "They're fine. You're not."
The doctor cleared his throat, "We've stopped the hemorrhaging, for now. We have two choices birth the baby now, but we need to decide now who to focus on Brooke or the baby."
Julian looked stunned, "What?"
He nodded, "I know this is hard, but in the event that we need to choose, which is likely very high I have to know."
Brooke looked to Julian in her stupor, "The baby Julian. I want the baby to be born."
Julian kissed her hand, "If it comes to that what are the chances of both living?" His voice cracked as he said it.
"We have no way of knowing, I'm assuming a 50/50 chance. We'll do our best to save them both, but in the end will choose the child, if that's what you'd like."
"WHAT?" They heard a voice say. They turned to find a broken Sam standing before them.
Brooke spoke up, "Sammy, sweetie-"
"Brooke, NO! The baby's not even born, YOU, YOU'RE HERE! You can't, mom, you can't."
Julian stood up and tried to grab her hand, but she shook him off, "Sam." He said.
"Mom, no, please!"
She went up to her, "Brooke take it back! Take it back! I want you, not the baby!"
Brooke was getting weaker, "Sammy, sam, please."
"You don't love me! That's what it is!"
Julian put her hand on her shoulder, "Sam, don't do this now."
Brooke closed her eyes, feeling the pain coming back, "I love you, I do, sweetheart. I love you and this baby both. Higher than the sky and deeper than the ocean. I'll be okay, I'm Brooke Davis remember?"
Sam felt Julian gently pull her from the bed, "Sam come on baby."
"You're just gonna let her die?! Daddy do something!" She couldn't understand why they were both so willing to let her go before the child that neither had even seen yet. Julian pulled Sam into a tight hug, "I know Samson. I know."
The doctor looked at Julian, "We need to operate now. There's no more time left, sir."
Sam felt herself be guided away by a nurse. Sam kept looking over to the room. She was a shaking mess, "Samantha, is it?" The nurse asked calmly. She just nodded, "You have to let me back in. They don't understand. They can't let my mom die! She wants to die!"
The nurse put her hands on Sam's face, "Sweetheart, we will do everything to make sure she lives. It's only if it comes down to the wire, that we'll have to choose. But trust me, we're going to try everything to make sure it doesn't come to that."
Sam flung her arms around the nurse, "Don't let her die." She sobbed, "Please don't let my mommy die."
The nurse could only hug her back.
… …..
Haley looked up and saw a nurse with Sam, "Samantha! Come here." Sam went over and sat next to Michael. "I'm sorry nurse. We thought she went to the restroom, and-"
The nurse stopped her, "It's fine. Really. Mr. Baker will be out soon, to talk to you about what will happen." She then looked over at Sam and gave her a wink.
When Julian came out and explained the situation everyone's faces fell, and tears began to stream. Julian sat next to Michael, holding him closely.
"Now, we wait." He said solemnly.
Sawyer, noticing Sam's absence got up to look for her. Lucas tried grabbing her hand, "Leave me alone." She said fiercely to both her parents, obviously still mad at them.
She walked out looking for her best friend, "Sam?" She asked looking around. She found her in the hospital garden with Jack.
"Hey guys." She said quietly.
Sam looked up her eyes still red, "Hey."
"Hey Soy." Jack responded. She took a seat next to them. "This whole thing is so messed up." Sam said.
Sawyer stayed quiet, as Jack wrapped her arm around Sam.
"I finally get a mom, and two years later, they're telling me she might die."
"Don't think like that." Jack said as he squeezed her. Sawyer felt a pang of guilt as she thought of the way she had been treating her own mother, lately.
"I don't want her to leave. What am I gonna do without her? I know we fight, but, but, she's still-"
Jack pulled her in, "Shh. Stop, stop thinking the worst. Just a few more hours, and you'll see everything will work out."
"Do you remember those two years when I was sent to a foster home far away from yours? And we didn't talk?"
Jack nodded, listening intently, "Yeah."
"Well I had a foster mom that time who was real nice to me, but then, then she got pregnant, and started ignoring me. And when I asked her why, she said I'll never be hers, the way that baby will be. Brooke was the first person to not care that I wasn't her blood."
Jack smiled, "She's great, and she'll continue being great once she leaves this goddang hospital. Trust me."
Sawyer got up and kissed the top of Sam's head, "She'll keep loving you Sam. You're gonna get lots more chances with her, don't worry."
Sam nodded and closed her eyes. Sawyer bit her lip as she thought of Peyton, "I'm gonna...go check on Michael." She said absentmindedly, in reality she just wanted to take a walk. When she came to the hospital doors, she went to the Children's ward, and watched as some of the children held on tightly to their parents. Each precious moment hitting her harder. She took a deep breath. Her parents were just trying to help her. They never meant to cause such a commotion. Was she being too hard on them?
She kept on walking and made her way back to the waiting room.
Julian saw her first, "Hey Soy, where's Sam?" He asked her.
"She's outside in the garden with Jack."
Julian stood up, "I'm gonna go talk-"
"Family of Brooke Davis?"
"Here, here!" Julian said, "Is she okay, is she fine, did the baby make it?"
The doctor cleared his throat, "We have about two hours left, but we think we're in the clear now. It was touch and go for a while, but they're both troopers."
Everyone felt an unbelievable weight leave them. Julian rubbed his face with his hands, "Thank you, thank you so much." He looked at his relieved friends, "I'm, I'm gonna go talk to Sammy."
Sawyer went over to Michael, talking to him for a while.
"Your parents keep looking over." He said to her. Sawyer nodded, "I know."
Michael looked at her, "Sawyer, go. I'm fine, but I'm pretty sure you and your parent's are not."
Sawyer sighed heavily, then went over and stood next to her mom who was sitting down. Peyton cautiously looked to her, "How're you holding up?" She asked her.
"Fine." She simply said.
"Dad'll be back soon. He went to get some food." She added.
Sawyer put her hands in her pockets and stared into space as Peyton and Haley talk.
"Mom?" She, finally interrupted.
Peyton looked up at her, "What is it honey?" She saw Sawyer's lip tremble. "Sweetie?" She said more softly, "What's wrong? Brooke'll be fine."
Sawyer looked at her mom with her wide eyes, then sat on her lap, surprising her mother, Peyton wrapped her arms protectively around her. "Momma, I'm sorry." Sawyer whispered. Peyton felt an enormous relief as Sawyer melted back into her little girl. After long days of her anger, her warmth was a beautiful feeling.
"I'm sorry I've been so mean to you and daddy."
"It's okay Soybean. Dad and me are really sorry too."
Sawyer nuzzled into her mother, "I don't wanna fight anymore."
"We'll talk about it later, don't worry. Just relax honeybunch" Peyton said.
… …. ….. … ….
Sam was still in the waiting room when Victoria came through the doors, "Well look, it's Samantha."
"What the hell are you doing here?" Sam said defensively.
"Well Brooke, your mother, is also my daughter."
"You do realize, her life was in the balance right?" Sam said feeling angry, "You weren't even here."
Victoria felt discovered, but she lifted her head high, "Well, I'm here now."
Sam scoffed, "Yeah, doesn't count now."
"Not that it matters to you, but I was..." She stopped herself and said nothing else.
Sam let curiosity get the best of her, "Not gonna finish your sentence?"
"No." Victoria snapped, "Now why aren't you with your mother?"
Sam shrugged, feeling on the spot. Victoria lifted her eyebrow. She rolled her eyes, then pulled up her sunglasses and got closer, "Cat's got your tongue young lady?"
"I can say the same for you." Sam said back.
"Alright fine. Look, I was scared. No matter what Brooke says, no matter what I did, she's still." She took a deep breath, "She's still my daughter."
Sam was in awe at Victoria's words, and felt that she needed to be transparent as well, "I'm scared too. Even though she's okay, I don't wanna see her and think about how she almost..you know...left us, left me."
Victoria extended her hand, "Come. We'll walk in together."
Sam took her hand apprehensively. Sam's heart beating faster as they got closer. When they went in, the room was filled with the whole clan. The room was already quiet, but everyone's attention turned to Sam and Victoria. Brooke was holding her newborn. The sight made Sam fill with joy. Her mom was okay and so was the baby.
"Victoria?" Brooke said surprised.
"I wanted to make sure you were okay." She said. But Brooke saw the inkling of maternity in her mother. "Thanks...mom."
Victoria smiled at the word 'mom.'
Sam then looked straight at her mom, and they made eye contact. "Hi sweetpea." Brooke said hoarsely, "Hi mom." She said timidly.
"Wanna meet your sister?"
Sam walked over next to Julian. Michael was already sitting at the foot of the bed. Brooke then scooted over, "Sit down sweetie."
Sam got on and laid next to her mom. "She's beautiful Brooke." Sam said. Brooke looked first at the baby, then Sam, and then Michael, "I love all three of you."
Julian spoke up, "We haven't thought of a name yet. Thought you and Michael could help us out."
Sam smiled and looked at Michael, "You're really trusting us with your kid's name? Damn."
Everyone laughed, "Maybe that's not such a good idea." Peyton said playfully.
The nurse came in a few moments later, "Ms. Davis? We just need to take your little girl for a routine check up. Make sure everything's in order."
Brooke nodded, "Sure thing." Julian slowly picked the sleeping baby up, "Hi my sweet baby girl." He said softly, "Daddy loves you." He handed her over.
Brooke took advantage of the chance and enveloped Sam, "Told you I'd be okay."
"Can you not scare me like that, like...ever?"
Brooke chuckled, "I'll try."
Peyton took a deep breath, "It's been a journey, right Brooke."
Brooke smiled, "Yeah, and we're not done yet."
Hope you enjoyed the series! Review! I have another idea in mind that I'm really excited about!
