Chapter 10:

It had been two weeks since Connect 3 and Caitlyn had left to tour the country and Mitchie was already feeling alone. She and Shane had dealt with long distances before and she knew she'd pull through, but at the same time she felt as if she was stuck. Stuck on planning her first tour, stuck on writing new songs, stuck with the people she worked with – things were progressing different from what she wanted them to. It was starting to frustrate her.

"Ugh, Rob? Do I have to have that many flashing lights and all that fog on stage? I think it's just too much," she asked a little irritated, that the plans for her stage setting had once again been changed.

"Mitchie, we talked about this before- we want people to come to your concerts, so we need to impress them with an amazing show. It's not only about music anymore, you need to entertain your crowd."

Mitchie sighed "I know and I want them to come, but I want them to see a show that is representing who I am and what choices I make as a musician. You know that I can perform, I do have some songs with choreography, but that's not all I want to do, I want to be able to connect with people through my music and I can't do that if I have to concentrate on remembering the steps to the different dances," she argued.

A few minutes passed until Rob spoke up, defeat apparent in his voice.

"Alright, I'll let you decide, but I want you to create a concept and inform me and the others about it soon. I trust you with this, you cannot afford to mess up on your first tour- it might be your last," he said.

"Thank you! Thank you! I won't let you down, I promise!" she exclaimed with an excited smile.

"Come on guys, I need my phone, give it back to me!" Shane exclaimed desperately.

Nate smirked: "Why? So you can look at photos of Mitchie all day long?"

"Ha ha, very funny, Nathaniel. Now hand me my phone," he said, expectantly holding out his hand.

"I don't believe that's gonna happen anytime soon, if you don't start focusing more on our concerts. The only thing you do right now, is either moping around about how much you miss Mitchie or stalking her twitter account," Nate admonished in an amused tone.

"I'm serious Nate, I want my phone back. Now."

"Well you're not getting it until you prove, that you can stay focused on music and stalk your girlfriend at the same time."

"Fine! I'll show you! I'll be ready for sound check in five minutes and we'll do the complete set of songs. We'll be awesome and then I can have my phone so I can call Mitchie," Shane listed, still angry at his overly professional brother.

"Sure, I believe you just as much as I believed you, when you said you'd make anything look cool – and we all know how that ended."

Shane growled:"Just wait and see."

While sitting on the veranda of her childhood home, Mitchie thought about ways to make her concerts exciting and fun- but not too over-the-top. She needed that concept done as soon as possible, she couldn't let the label down, she promised not to and although she had ideas in her head, she didn't know how to make them into actual plans.

Why does everything have to be so complicated? I just want some simple lights, a fully equipped band, one or two background-singers and a microphone. I don't need anything else. My music should be the important thing, not the stage or the dancers.

Suddenly she knew what to do, so she quickly scribbled some notes and called Rob.

"Mitchie. What can I do for you?" Rob answered.

"Rob, I've got it, I know exactly how the concerts need to be!" she told him excitedly.

"That's great, would you be up for a quick meeting at my house in half an hour?"

"Sure, I hope I'll make it through traffic in time"

"I'll call the others and we'll see if your concept is good enough."

"Okay, see you in 30"

Mitchie told her mom where she was going and that she was most likely going to return to her apartment after that. With a kiss on the cheek she left the driveway and drove to Rob's neighborhood.

She arrived five minutes late, but just in time for the others who were just entering the house.

"I'm glad y'all could make it, so we'll get right to it – Mitchie please inform us about your plans," Rob announced. Everybody turned towards Mitchie, making her a little nervous.

"Right, um, as I've told Rob before, I want to express myself with my music and I just don't feel comfortable with the whole costume and choreography thing – I want my concerts to be solely about music," she took a deep breath looking at their faces, hoping to see some sort of affirmation in them, but she didn't.

"In order to do that," she continued "I want the stage to be simple with nothing but my band's instruments and microphones for my background-singers as well as myself..."

"With all due respect, Ms Torres, don't you think that your audience will be a little bored, they're after all coming to see a performance, you know how it is these days," Mr Lawrence, her tour coordinator, interrupted her. Her tour manager seemed to agree as well, nodding his head.

"Mr Lawrence, I am aware of that, but I am going to make sure that they get to see a great performance – I just don't want to go over-the-top. I am instead planning to play the guitar as well as the piano on stage, since I didn't do that last time when I was opening up for Connect 3. My guitarist has some awesome skills and I could totally rock out with him in a few songs," she told him with a hint of excitement.

"There's so much you can do with just music – it connects people and I want to do that. Also, if we do things my way, we'd have a lot less transport to do, which could save us some money, " she said, hoping to win them over.

"Well you've got me on your side. I think it's a great idea to show the world who you are as a musician - you're Mitchie Torres, a down-to-earth girl who is an amazingly talented singer and doesn't need anything else but her voice and her instruments to capture her audience and saving money is just an added bonus," her Publicist said.

After a few seconds, Rob and the other two gave Mitchie smiles too and told her, that she had convinced them.

"I have to say, I'm very impressed with your determination Ms Torres. I think working with you will be good, you seem like you have your head on straight and I appreciate that," Mr Lawrence praised.

"Thank you so much. I'm really happy that we could finally find an agreement," Mitchie said with a smile.

"Guys! Are you ready for sound check?" Shane shouted through their tour bus. Jason came in a couple seconds later, eating some kind of junk food.

"Yeah, but why are you ready? Normally you'd be at least fifteen minutes late," Jason wondered.

"That's because he'd be stalking Mitchie on his phone, but since he doesn't have it, he can't do that," Nate said grinning.

"Dude, I am ready on time and I'd really like to actually go to sound check now, so I can have my phone back, which I am, by the way, not using to stalk my girlfriend," Shane said irritatedly.

His brothers laughed at him, but got up to leave anyways.

Arriving at the venue, they were greeted by their manager and Caitlyn and quickly set up their instruments, before starting to do the entire set of songs that was planned for that night.

Mitchie arrived at her apartment with a big smile on her face, but sighed when she realized that she wouldn't be able to share her news with Shane until he called her. Usually she would just call him up, but since he was on tour, he had a tight schedule and they had agreed that he would call her whenever he had some spare time.

Even though she wanted nothing more than to mope around, she knew that it would do nobody any good. And with that she turned on her stereo system.

I'm feeling sexy and free
Like glitter's raining on me
You're like a shot of pure gold
I think I'm bout to explode
I can taste the tension like a cloud of smoke in the air
Now I'm breathing like I'm running cause you're taking me there
Don't you know...you spin me out of control
Ooh ooh ooh ooh

While cooking dinner, she continued to sing and dance around in the kitchen, pretending to use her spoon as a microphone. After her food was done, she decided to eat it in front of the TV that she had just turned on.

Their sound check had been great and everybody was pleased with the boys.

"That was awesome, guys. We'll rock that concert tonight," Nate said enthusiastically.

"Yeah, I can't wait!" Jason said, high-fiving his brothers.

"I told you, we'd rock. Now back to business - I want my phone," Shane demanded.

"Alright you stalker," Nate said and tossed him the phone.

"Thanks dude," he said and turned to leave, muttering: "I am not a stalker."

"Sure bro!" Nate called after him.

Caitlyn walked over to them, looking confused.

"Hey, what were you doing with Shane's phone and why were you calling him a stalker?" she asked curiously.

"Oh, that... Well since he was always on his phone stalking Mitch, I decided to steal it from him until he promised to stay focused on the tour," he replied with a shrug. "You should have seen how desperate he was – it was seriously funny," he said with a laugh.

"Dang it, why'd I decide to hang with the others today? I totally missed out on that one," she pouted.
