A/N: I should be doing my homework. But oh well. ;) Sorry for the double post of Concrete Angel! :S Beck is very vulnerable and desperate, treat him with care! *Fragile*
"Cat..." Jade pondered. "Where did you spend Christmas?" Cat offers Jade a wan smile, taking her hands, and patting them gently.
"I spent it with you guys." Cat bit her lip. "Well. With you, Liv and Jazz." Jade breathes out a breath she was holding, not quite catching on that Beck wasn't included in the list.
"Thank god." Jade says. "I was so horrible to you. I hate that. I'm sorry." She breathes.
"Mm.." Cat nods. "We had a rough time. I mean, we're still not sorted. Or," Cat corrects herself, "were sorted. You know, back then. Forward then? Eh. I don't know. You kind of interrupted with your fortune teller."
"I see," Jade raises an eyebrow, a little confused.
"You will do." Cat promises, with a short laugh. "It was November 30th. Cat and Beck were talking while Jade settled the babies.
"What are you doing for Christmas?"
"What do you mean?" Cat asks.
"Where are you going?" Cat looks embarrassed as she mumbles an inaudible answer.
"I don't know," she sighs.
"Come with us." Cat raises an eyebrow.
"Sounds like you're trying to invite me to a cult. Come with you where, anyway?"
"Well. We're spending Christmas here. But then we're moving on." He sees Cat's worried expression. "We won't run off again. I promise. We hope it'll be near home."
"Where's home?" Cat asks. "Really, this is genuine. Where is your home?"
"The house we raised our daughter in. Yours. Don't tell Jade yet, but the house across from you is on the market. I have some money saved up - just under the asking price. My Mom said she'd pay the rest - she wants to help raise Jazz and Livvy. She's only a five minute walk away, you're less. Win win?"
"It's a good idea. But will Jade be happy with it?"
"Babe, come on. It's a good idea."
"We'll have your mother sticking her nose in, and Cat there! That's not our own two feet."
"Paying bills, isn't? Cleaning it isn't? Making it baby proof isn't? Jade, we'll never be alone, and that's a GOOD thing!"
"You don't understand! You're not a bad father! You're a good Daddy and I'm a rubbish Mommy."
"You are a good Mom to those kids." Beck sighs. "They love you."
"Love isn't enough though, is it? It will never be enough to see us through!" Jade yells. "I don't know. Something about us...it just doesn't feel right now."
"You..you don't know about us, anymore? Don't you love me?"
"Beck, I just told you I did. "Love isn't enough"? Listen. This isn't what is best for the kids. I think..we need a break."
"No."
"Yes, Beck. Yes."
"It's the kids. They ruined us. That's okay, baby. Cat can take them. Anything you want, Jade, just please, please don't leave me." Jade recoils from his touch, horrified. She starts to hyperventilate.
"You want me to give up my kids? You want me to ABANDON them?" Jade grabs her chest, scratching at her pale skin. "I trusted you with them. With my babies. You're supposed to love them more than your own life. Oh my lord," Jade says, lunging at him. "YOU SICK, SICK-"
"Jade!" Cat cries, rushing into the room. "Stop! What are you doing!?" She cries, grabbing onto her sobbing best friend.
"Get him AWAY from me!" Jade screams.
"What? Why?"
"Don't let him go near those kids! Oh god, Cat, please, go get my Dad." Cat shakes her head.
"Adam? Adam!" She calls. "I'm not leaving. I need you up here, Mr West! Now!"
"Cat, I swear to god if you don't get him out of here-" Cat shakes her head again, thoroughly confused.
"Okay, Beck. Leave, please." Jade runs to the room Olivia and Jasper shares, and grips the doorway.
"You are not having my babies. Leave, Beck. Leave!"
"Okay.." Beck says. "Jade please, I don't know what I was saying-"
"Out!"
Jade falls into a heap on the floor of the children's room. Olivia is crying. Jasper is screaming - his poor tummy hurts, and now his Mommy is screaming. Cat is crying, her hand on her mouth, hugging Jade hard. Mr West is trying hard not to, fighting back tears that threaten to fall. He picks up Olivia and Jasper.
"I'll...take them out." He says, his voice hoarse. Cat nods, and wipes her nose with the back of her hand.
"Okay. I'll stay here. Find out what h-happened."
Cat eventually finds out what happened. She can't believe it, and is speechless. She simply hugs Jade tightly, trying to piece her back together, almost. "No," she says. "He loves you and those kids too much for this. God, he's an idiot."
"Yeah he is. An idiot for loving me. He loves me too much, you know? God knows why, though. I'm a mess. He's better off without me and two kids. He can get on with his lavish lifestyle he wishes for."
"You know he wants to be with you, even if it takes...that."
"Well, he should give up his life for Olivia and Jasper. I would. You would. Dad would. Hell, anyone would."
"Yeah." Cat bites her thumb. "He'll realize soon, Jadey. He'll realize how lucky his is to have you. I'm lucky to have you, Jade. I don't tell you enough, but I really do love you." Jade leans on Cat, her head in her lap. Cat rakes her hands through Jade's knotty hair, sighing sadly for her best friend, for herself, and for those children who have done no wrong in life.
"I love you too, Kitty. I love you, too."
