A/N: Sorry that I haven't updated! You know how the holidays go though, busy busy busy. Especially for my family. Over Christmas my Grandparents were moving home so we had to clear out their house and everything else. I also had to go to the hospital (nothing serious just a little blood test) so that took up some time.
But without further ado, here it is.
"Now, let's sit down and have a cup of tea. Then we'll look for him," Cat says calmly.
"No, Cat! Now! We have to look now."
"Jade," Cat cautions lightly, and then she flips the switch to the kettle, "Don't go like this."
"Like this?" Jade asks, her voice on the edge of hysteria.
"Yes! Over upset and worked up, angry, teary and neglectful."
"Neglectful? I don't neglect your kids!"
"Jade," Cat says gently, touching Jade's shoulder and wincing when she flinches, "Not neglectful of your kids. I told you - you're a wonderful Mom."
"Thanks," Jade sniffles, "I'm sorry. I'm wrong. You're right." Jade admits, her hands up.
"That's okay. I don't blame you!" Cat leans over from the hug she'd just encased Jade in and switched the kettle off again, sighing. "Okay, okay. Let's go find him,"
"Right," Cat nods, jotting down something on the notebook next to the phone, which was currently squashed between her left shoulder and ear. "Goodbye." Cat disconnects the phone and glances at Jade. "Your Dad says he'll be here in ten to take care of the kids. He'll take them to his house." Jade nods, and Cat grabs her keys, coat and bag. She slips into her coat, hangs her bag over her shoulder, does the buttons up on her coat, and shoves the keys into her pocket. "Get your coat, it's cold out."
When Jade returns to the kitchen, Cat presses two purple pills into her hand, closing her hand over the tablets. "Take these. They'll calm you down."
"What are they?"
"Guess." Jade sighs. She's not in the mood for games, but Cat is doing this to stall. Jade's dad had not yet arrived and they couldn't leave until he did.
"I don't know."
"Abilify."
"Sounds fun," Jade says, tipping her head back and taking a sip of water that Cat'd laid out. "I hear a car." Cat listens carefully and nods.
"Yeah. Let's say bye to the kids." Cat jumps up the stairs with the ease that Jade wishes she had, and kisses Livvy's cheek. "See you in a few, babydoll!" Jade also kisses Olivia's flushed cheek and smiles at her little girl.
"Bye, baby." She steps over to the crib where Jasper lay, eyes closed in an angelic way. "Sweet dreams, little man."
"Bye, Jazzy," Cat whispers, kissing his head. Jade nods and walks down the stairs in a robotic fashion.
"Where should we go first?" Cat asks, frowning at the road in front of her, acting as if it was to blame. "I think-"
"Bellside."
"Bellside," Cat repeats, deep in thought. "I don't know where that is."
"It's a town about twenty minutes away."
"How could he have gotten there?" Cat asks, glancing at Jade beside her. Jade shrugs.
"When I was a teenager, I used to get the bus there all the time. Maybe you still can." Cat sighs and shrugs to match her best friend. "But...I don't know if he's there."
"It's worth a shot."
They go to every guesthouse and every motel, but they can't find him. They ask around - but it's blatantly clear to the both of them that he's not here.
"Where is he?" Jade yells into the distance, crying though she's freakishly calm. "I need him."
"I know!" Cat grins. "What about his parent's house? It's on the other side of our town but it'll be worth it."
"I guess," Jade mutters, dragging herself to the car again.
When they get to Beck's parents, Cat raps on the door twice, sighing as she waits. A polished woman caked in makeup opens the door to two young women, bare faced, dark circled eyes, miserable, and scruffy. The lady sighs, and nods primly. She turns around and closes the door, and then steps closer to them. She points a manicured nail at Jade.
"You." She hisses, "You! You ruined my baby's life. How dare you!" When Jade doesn't respond, the lady Jade assumes is Beck's mother repeats the phrase. "How dare you!"
And with the shouting, Cat seems to revert to a teenager again. She squints.
"Um, Miss?" She says, turning and playing with her hair. "We need to see Beck." Beck's mother simply spits in Cat's direction and slams the door. Jade is fuming and she hits the door over and over and over, and her hands are bleeding badly but she doesn't care, she just needs to see her husband.
Her voice is hoarse from the screaming when Beck's Dad finally opens the door. He shakes his head at her, and steers her into the house by her elbow, aware of her bloody hands.
Beck is at the top of the stairs, tears streaming down his face. He looks furious, and he rushes to Jade. "I'm so sorry. She wouldn't let me get the door..and I couldn't, you see," he motions to his hands and Jade cuts him off with a rough kiss. "Shut up," she says through it, and he says okay, mumbled by her lips. She grabs his hair and yells out in pain. Her hands sting horribly. "Why are you here?"
"I needed...I needed to let go of the past. I had some things here I had to sort out."
"You scared the hell out of me, idiot!"
Instead of arguing, Beck simply says, "I love you."
"I know."
