When Warrior Star peeled away from Breaksteel and plunged into the sudden darkness brought about by the storm, she didn't have a destination in mind. She didn't know where she was going. She was just…running.
The bronze femme cleared the nearest perimeter fence in a bound, barely aware of the rain that pounded down on her armor as lightning snarled across the darkened sky. Her armored paws and claws dug into the dirt, pounding it into mud as she raced across the countryside. She slowly became aware of the soft, sad whirr of her own spark, realizing it was calling out for Breaksteel's even as she charged further away.
No mech has ever commanded this kind of attention from me before. This makes no sense. Warrior Star thought as a bolt of lightning struck a nearby tree, making it explode in a shower of splinters and flame as she crashed straight through the fire without flinching.
It's a sparkmatch, foolish femme. You've never matched with a mech before. A voice scolded deep in her processor, making her bare her silver fangs in anger. Suddenly her attention turned from the sadness in her spark…to the grief of Swiftpaw's loss. The face of Breaksteel's brother, Steelbite, was thrust front and center in her mind's eye…and her grief exploded into a burning rage.
Steelbite…you are part of the reason that I will not allow Breaksteel's spark to bond with mine. You are the first on my list to die. Warrior Star changed directions suddenly, charging through the storm to the forest where the deadly confrontation with Steelbite had gone down. She had a strange feeling that the mech would be there…waiting.
The storm had only grown fiercer, lightning striking much more frequently when Warrior Star reached the meadow, staring at the broken trees and the deep scars in the muddy ground as the battle replayed in her head, as if she were right there in it again. The sudden deep, cold laugh from behind her made her entire frame tense, but she refused to turn as the dark mech emerged from the forest behind her.
"I had a feeling you'd return, femme. What with your brother's energon only now being washed away from the field of battle, I knew you'd be back here. Searching for me. Yearning for vengeance. That's just fine, femme…because you're giving me the chance to claim my own revenge. I hope you said goodbye to that traitorous brother of mine…because you'll die here, just like that little mutt did." Warrior Star's optics flickered as she slowly swept her gaze across the battlefield, silently counting as mechs emerged from the trees before pausing and forming a circle around her.
Too many for me to handle. That's fine with me. There's only one mech that I really want to die here. She thought, turning slowly but with predatory grace to face Steelbite as the mech continued his slow, measured approach. She met his cold dark optics, baring her fangs in a threatening snarl as a low rumble echoed from her chest. The mech halted finally, standing within striking distance as his mechs closed ranks, making escape nigh impossible as Steelbite puffed out his chest and stared at her. Arrogance rolled from the dark mech's frame in waves, and Warrior Star curled her lip in disgust.
"What's the matter, mech? One femme too much for you to handle alone?" She snarled, relishing the look of fury that crossed his face as he dropped into a crouch, his optics blazing with hatred.
"You'll die for that, Guardian scum." He choked out, his rage making it nearly impossible for him to speak clearly. The bronze femme bared her razor-sharp dentals, her cobalt blue optics glittering madly as she took one step forward. She paused for just a second, adjusted her center of gravity slightly, and then she charged with a roar. Steelbite launched himself forward at the same time, his jaws wide and his optics snapping as they met with a stunning clang.
Warrior Star felt her armor flex under the impact, felt it as Steelbite's fangs found her, felt her energon starting to flow down her armor in steaming hot waves of blue…but she didn't even really process it. All she saw was fading forest green in a background of gold. All she knew was the scream of her spark when the warmth and love faded from somewhere deep inside, never to return. All she understood was the burning wrath that roared within her core, the fire of the rage that filled her frame now, and the cold determination to end the mech in front of her.
She saw, she felt, she heard, she tasted, she smelled everything…and yet nothing. She knew only the rage within. She knew only the taste of revenge. She felt only the anger of loss. All that mattered to the bronze femme was how the mech she now fought was going to die. Nothing else.
So Warrior Star didn't pay attention when her spark started spinning just a little faster in her chest. She didn't hear it when the sad whirr that it had been making stopped, changing instead to a deep, contented hum that grew louder by the second. She didn't feel it when her spark started calling out in joy when it felt its match growing closer and closer and closer. She was aware of none of these things…until a mech at the edge of the forest suddenly screamed, then died, his neck broken and his armor torn beyond repair.
All combatants present turned, their optics widening when they saw the slain mech, then rising to seek out his killer. Standing on top of his kill like a conquerer of old, Breaksteel looked every inch like some creature from a nightmare, his deadly fangs bared and dripping with energon, his light yellow optics glowing like fire as lightning struck behind him and lit his entire frame in an eerie light.
Warrior Star heard Steelbite curse angrily from behind her, but she ignored him, staring at Breaksteel in confusion as she wondered how he had found her, and why he had come.
He is your sparkmatch. Of course he came. Said the now-familiar quiet little voice of her conscience.
Of course. Warrior Star thought, feeling her optics soften as they met Breaksteel's. The mech's gaze softened in return, and then hardened again when he saw his brother.
"Finish him, Warrior Star. Leave the rest to me." With that, Breaksteel launched himself straight into the fray, his fangs flashing and his massive paws a blur as he attacked every mech in range. The bronze femme spun to face her opponent again, comforted by the fact that she was no longer alone as she howled her challenge to the storm-torn sky before launching herself at Steelbite again.
A/N: Well. This was fun to write. I like writing scenes with stormy backgrounds...makes them so much more interesting. The general scenery, the lightning...works very well when trying to portray emotions/fights too. Just a nice little addition really.
Anyway! Hope ya'll like the chapter. Not so much fluffy but rather satisfying, knowing Warrior Star went back to try and finish Steelbite and his goons. That and having Breaksteel make an appearance...that was good fun too.
I've been itching to write a good fight of late...I actually got myself into a couple of 'em this week at work. Not physical but still. Just generally had my temper up and I've had an itchy trigger finger all week, lol. GOD I hate my one supervisor...but that new sergeant I got recently? That guy's a keeper. Totally. Following a rather strange discussion with some of my higher ups, which I'm rather certain got a couple of my supervisors yelled at, one of them wanted to slap me with a reprimand, more or less. That new sergeant of ours stopped him. The guy is epic. Friggin. Epic.
Anyway! I'm going to go kill some stuff in some games now, I think. Hopefully will have another chapter out for ya'll in a few days.
Until we meet again...
