Mutants of the mansion
Chapter 21
Y'know, I always think that I could have given this fanfiction a better name. And I don't think I'm keeping up with my timescale.
(Jubilee)
I let go of the rope as I swung forward, gripping the next one as I passed it. Swinging around, I gripped it with my knees and hung there to catch my breath. It was probably dangerous to be practising gymnastics over a wood factory, but I wasn't about to start tying ropes to all the trees outside. I could see most of the workers giving me worried stares. My past was obviously physical. I've been throwing myself from rope to rope for the past 2 hours and I'm not even sweating. This is getting pretty boring now. It's been like this for the last month, and I'm getting sick of it. It's so boring around here! Want to go out into the word and figure out who I am! I don't want to be stuck as the girl with no memory forever! I want to know my real name! I want to know if I have a family! What I didn't realise in my distraction was that my legs had begun sliding from the rope. I only registered what was happening when one of the workers began shouting.
"Oh god!"
"Somebody catch her!" No worry stuck me. Instead, I flipped over, and placed my hands face-down. Some kind of blue flames erupted from my hands, sending me back into the air. Okay, time to panic. I could feel the same happening to my feet. Luckily, I had abandoned my gloves and boots by the door. I smashed through the glass roof and moved my hands so I was heading down. Wait. I'm flying. I'm flying! How am I flying?! Who cares?! I felt myself laugh as I soared through the air, rolling around and making random turns to stay around the village. Then a thought struck me. How do I stop. Many attempts to cut the flow to my limbs didn't work, so I headed for the lake. I went straight to the bottom before I stopped. Panic set in again, and I flew straight to the top, exploding out of the water. Luckily, it stopped again, and I went back in. I flailed for a few seconds before poking my head out and checking if anybody was around. Nobody. Yet.
"That was awesome." I grinned, continuing to flail my way back to shore. After I was safely back on the ground, I laid down, scraped the hair that was stuck to my face away from my eyes and allowed the sun to begin drying me off. What am I? I'm definitely not human. Now there's even more questions to answer. Lifting my hands again, I felt my brow knit in confusion as sparks began to dance off my fingertips. Sitting up, I focused on them and even more appeared. What are these? Pointing my hand towards the lake, my face turned to delight as a firework flew from my hand. Jumping up, I started spinning around, letting more out and moving the position of my arms to get them everywhere. When I stopped, I noticed Maxine and Raymond staring at me with wide eyes.
"Wh- what am I- what?"
"I have no idea!" I called, spinning again with a laugh. "But this is so much fun!"
"Well, it looks like our little friend is a mutant." Max smiled, walking over and ruffling my wet hair. It's grown past my shoulders now. I don't know how it used to be cut, so I don't bother.
"Mutant?"
"Human with special powers." Ray didn't look too pleased. Max was enjoying this.
"Kid, we saw you flying." Max smiled again. "Last thing that any of us could expect."
"Hey, how was I supposed to expect it? I can't really control the flying, but the fireworks are fine!" Ray was just continuously backing up. Are mutants bad or something? I lifted my hand again to shoot another firework, but the flame appeared instead, sending me straight back into the lake. When I managed to surface again, my friend was laughing really hard and the doctor was nowhere in sight. He's known me for 6 weeks. I'm not scary. "I think that this is knew to me completely."
"I'll say!" She clasped me on the back and started to lead me away. "Come on. Let's get you into some dry clothes."
(A few hours later)
Darkness had set over the village, forcing most of the people to retreat into the local bar to enjoy what was left of the day. It was surprising to everybody that their teenage lodger was a mutant, but nobody really reacted to it. Instead, most of them gave friendly comments on how she was more powerful. One guy had other plans. He sat next to her and placed a cup of cola in front of her.
"Thanks."
"You're still causing a stir."
"I'm surprised, too." A momentary silence fell over the people when the dull roar of a motorcycle entered the area. Everybody continued their conversations as it stopped, and took no notice of the person that walked in. Raven-black hair fell around her face, almost covering her emerald eyes and reached the middle of her back. Despite being pale, she wore a black tank top and black jeans that were probably a little too tight for her. Her knee-high boots followed the trend. Black. After taking a minute to look over the crowd, her face showed a flash of surprise when she noticed the other teenager sitting at the bar. That turned to determination as she darted forward and placed her hand over the rim of the glass that was about to touch Alice's lips.
"Don't drink that." Taking it from her hand, the taller girl lifted it and pointed to the 2 small tablets that were still fizzing in the bottom of the glass. "He spiked it." In shock, Alice scrambled from her chair and fell to the floor. Rolling her eyes, The taller girl lifted her up from the floor, grabbed her wrist and pulled her outside. Confusion still stayed on Alice's face. Instead of taking her into the forest, she was held against the outside wall by her shoulders. "What are you doing here?"
"I- I-"
"Wait. Say my name." An uncomfortable silence fell. "What happened?"
"Somebody tried to kill me." Alice placed 2 fingers to the entry point on her chin. "They shot me here. I can't remember anything."
"Not even me?" A sad look settled over the taller the taller girl's face.
"Does that mean you know me?"
"Of course I do!" Without thinking, Alice grabbed her hands and looked her in the eye.
"Then who am I?"
"Your name is Jubilee. And I'm Laura. You HAVE to remember." With a sad look, Laura pulled the shorter girl closer and hugged her tightly. "You have to." Unknowing to them, somebody had walked outside seconds earlier to see what was going on.
"Hey! What are you doing?" In an instant, just as he was about to grab Jubilee's shoulder, Laura pulled her away, -still keeping her close- glared at the man and brought her claws through the skin on her knuckles. One reaction was amazement, the other was shock.
"Touch her, and I will disembowel you." Instead of being scared of the person that had just walked into her life and claimed that was her friend, Jubilee placed one hand over hers and the other on her stomach. Laura didn't even react. "Come on."
"Where are we going?"
"This way." Juilee released her grip when Laura started walking. With a last look at the person that walked outside, she followed. And both girls were off and running through the forest. The taller girl stopped after a couple of minutes, and didin't even flinch when the other one accidentily ran into her. "Okay, one more question. What did you do to your hair?"
"Well, I, ah, didn't know how I kept it before." She admitted, twirling a strand of raven hair through her fingers. "I guess that you know?"
"Of course I know." X-23 rolled her eyes and turned her friend around by her shoulders. "Take your sunglasses off and hold still." Doing as instructed, Jubilee held her breath as the familiar 'snikt' sound was heard before feeling the length of her hair vanish almost instantly. Only a minute passed before Laura announced that she was done. It was a nervous hand that explored the unfamiliar haistyle. "Remember anything, yet?"
"Uh...no." The taller girl sighed. "I'm not sure what cures amnesia. It could take something like, brain surgery." Rolling her eyes, Laura turned Jubille around by her shoulders. "I'm not sure that I like that look..."
"I'm sure that shock is one of the factors." And then, Laura kissed her. It wasn't anything serious, and didn't last longer than a minute.
"Laura, what the heck?!" Jubille demanded, shoving her friend away. "That was like, the most random thing ever! What was the point in that?!" Instead of taking offence to the now annoyed teen, the clone just smiled and leaned against a tree. She noticed the intense change in her voice, from timid and frightened to confident and full of youth. Like it used to be. "Why would you just kiss me?! I have a girlfriend- Wait. I have a girlfriend. Oh my god, I have a girlfriend." The expression turned from annoyance to shock as she placed her hands over her ears and fell to her knees. "Rogue."
"Jubilee? Are you okay?"
"Laura, I can remember. I remember everything. I almost died."
I really have no excuse for being this late. Unless you take Getting into the Saints Row series as an excuse. That series is the best thing ever.
