Mutants of the mansion

Chapter 22

Hey, would you look at that. Matching digits. Somebody take a picture. Or don't. I'm just the author. And I'm going to be making up where the cities are in this because I'm British and I have no idea where any of the American states are.

(Jubilee)

"Thank you for taking care of me."

"It ain't no problem, kid." Max smiled, ruffling my hair with vigour. I had to reseat my shades. "Just promise me that you'll be careful out there, alright?" I smiled, too and looked back to Laura. I didn't ralise that starting up a motorbike was that much trouble.

"Well, I now know that I can't promise that." I clapped lghtly and gave off a few sparks. "I know that I'll certainly try." Then, I got a hug. I didn't expect that.

"You have to atleast try."

"Well, I can promise that."

"Jubilee! Come on! We got a big drive!" I rolled my eyes and hugged Max again.

"Bye, kid."

"Bye!" Laura did hand me the helmet she was previously wearing. Maybe because her head isn't as squishy as mine. As soon as it was on and I was holding onto her, we were off. The dirt road was pretty bumpy, and my head bounced off her back quite a few times. If it bothered her, she didn't mention it. It did make me feel queasy. The constant bouncing. Luckily, we made it onto the highway, and the speed increased. I don't recall Wolvie driving this fast.

"Hey, it's nice to see that your leg's all healed up."

"It would be pretty hard to sit like this otherwise." That made her laugh. "What was it, a 50-50 chance?"

"Luck always works in your favour."

"Yeah, like getting shot." I got nudged lightly.

"And the luck of not dying?" I paused for a second. Damnit, she's right. "Jubilee, you still have to be careful. Despite your luck, bad things are still going to happen."

"You think I don't know that?" We both fell into silence after that. I just gripped onto her waist and waited for the ride to be over. Now that I think about it, do I even want to go back to the X-men? I don't think anybody tried to look for me. It would have been pretty easy to track me. Laura managed it. What Kitty said was true. I'm useless. Nobody's going to miss me. I'll be doing the favour by not going back.

"Hey, don't ask, but I'm going to leave you in New York."

"Wh- New York?! Why?!"

"Because I hae some stuff to take care of. I woud confront your attempted killer if you told me who it was."

"Yeah, but then I wouln't be able to take them down myself if you did. It's my problem."

"At least I know it's one of the X-men."

"But I'm not telling you which one." I'm not sure about what she did next, but she stopped talking. And the silence continued throughout the rest of the journey. I was almost asleep when the bike stopped. I shook my head to wake myself up. "Are we there?"

"Yes. And you fell asleep." That explains why my wrists were just untied. "I'm glad that nobody attempted to stop me." I rubbed my wrists when they were free as I got off the bike.

"So, you're just going to abandon me here?"

"Would you rather I take you back to the school?" I shuddered after I took the helmet off.

"No, thank you." I handed Laura the helmet and watched her put it on. "You're still coming back, right?"

"Of course I am. Just stay within the city." I nodded and made the last second decision to hug her. "Stay safe."

"I'll try." I got a last nod before she sped off. With a sigh, I put my hands in my pockets and started walking. This past year or so has been pretty insane. Lost an eye, got quite a bit of racism that made me find out that I could fly, noticed that I had a serious crush on Rogue, somehow forgot my birthday, built a treehouse, Laura visited for a while, found that Rogue actually liked me back, then Gambit made a reappearance, Laura wanadered off again, regained an eye, my leg got busted, Rogue and I got busted, somehow lost my ability to fly, Storm kinda adopted me, got taken to the mall where Kitty attaempted to kill me, lost my memory, found out that I could fly again, Laura found me and helped me get my memory back, and now I'm here. Aimlessly wandering the streets of New York. And I'm not exactly one to avoid attention. Still with the blue shorts, boots and gloves, Yellow trenchcoat, and pink shirt and shades. I also still have a yellow backback. I have no regrets over how I dress.

"Hey, where do you think you're going?" I almost bumped into 4 guys who had stepped into my path. I know that I'm 5'5". I'm not sure how tall these guys are. But they're definitely taller than me.

"In the direction you're blocking me from going." No reaction. "Can I get past, please?"

"And go where?"

"In that direction. Like I already said." Looks like this guy is the ringleader or something. "Please move."

"You're not going anywhere." He snarled, grabbing my wrist and pulling me a bit closer. "You're going to have some fun with us." I gave a questioning look.

"Like hell I am." In my head, I gave off a few sparks and scare them away. In reality, I forget about my new thrusters, they go off and I end up flying off my feet and hitting my head on the pavement.

"What the fuck was that?!"

"She's a damned mutie!" I wasn't listening to them. I was in pain. Clutching the back of my head and slowly curling up.

"And you four shouldn't be messing with her." I managed to sit up and look at what was happening. No way. Stark? HE pushed his way through them and helped me up. "Jubilee, right? One of Logan's?"

"That's right." I smiled, shaking his hand. "We've met before, haven't we?"

"Just the once. What the hell happened there?" I looked at my hands and at the holes that were now burned into them.

"Well, I somehow got a new power. And I can't control it yet." He gave a small laugh. "Whats so funny?" He put an arm around my shoulders and started walking. The boys had scampered.

"What are you doing out here? Aren't you supposed to be at Xavier's place?"

"Yeah. But I don't want to go back." He gave his stubble a stroke.

"Why don't you stay at Stark tower for a while, then? And you can tell me why you're not there."

"Really? I won't be an annoyance?"

"That depends." I grinned again, removing his arm and ruffling my hair. "Got an interest in engineering?"

"Of course I do!"

Surprise appearance! And I don't know why I wanted to finish this today, but I did. On a related note, happy Valentines day, despite the pointless nature of the holiday.
