Mutants of the mansion
Chapter 23
I got my hair cut a few weeks ago. Basically, I shaved the back and sides of my head and I have to continue doing it. I would not recommend it if you can't stand the itching.
(Jubilee)
"Got the wiring?"
"Yep."
"Can you apply it?"
"Yep." I pulled myself into the crawlspace, copper wiring gripped between my teeth and pliers in my pocket. Just gotta fix a light. Shouldn't be too much trouble. Apparently, I'm now becoming Iron man's apprentice. Should be fun. Atleast I get to learn a buttload about engineering. Nobody really knew that I like it. It's one thing I kept a secret because I couldn't learn about it.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"I'm fine, Tony! If you're so worried, why did you send me down here?"
"Because you're the only person I know that's small enough to get down there!" I paused as I reached the faulty wires.
"You're sure that they're off, right?"
"Completely!" I shrugged and started clipping the dead wire out. "Don't get electrocuted!"
"You said that the lights are off!"
"They're still attached to the main power source!"
"Tell me something I don't know." I grumbled, attaching the new wires. As soon as the connection was made, the light went on. "What the- you said that the light was off!"
"It isn't?" I listened to him walk away and then walk back. "Sorry." I groaned, finished attaching the tape, and started pulling myself out of the crawlspace.
"Dusty." Tony rolled his eyes at me as I dusted myself off. "Whats next? Are you going to get me to fix the engine of a running car?"
"It could always be arranged." I stuck my tongue out at him and pulled my trenchcoat on. "Why don't you just wander around for a bit?"
"Because I still have no control over my new powers, and I don't want to hurt anybody." He raised an eyebrow and walked off. I did follow him, out of curiosity. Tony did glance back to check if I was there. We almost walked through half the tower before reaching a pair of large steel doors.
"I'll bet you're glad that I borrwed some technology from Xavier to build this." He grinned, opening the door and pulling me inside. The colour was off, the tech wasn't completely up to date and it was smaller, but I recognised it. He had a replica of the danger room.
"Have you ever used it?"
"Actually, no. No, I haven't." I facepalmed.
"Then why did you build it?"
"It's cool to have." I sighed and wandered over to the main computer panel. No programs loaded. As expected. Thankfully, I knew how this worked. "Need some help?"
"I know the programming." He watched me code for a good 5 minutes.
"What are you building?"
"The city. Then I can actually go outside and fly when I get the hang of it."
"Shall I just leave you alone?"
"Unless you want to watch." As predicted, he left the room. In all, it took me 3 days to finish an exact replica. And I had to look online to make it completely realistic. When it was finished, I took a test flight through the city. Well, attempted to. I ended up hitting almost every building. By the time I went to tell Tony, I was pretty messed up.
"What happened to you? I don't recall hearing a stampeding heard of cattle." He grinned as I jumped over the back of the couch to sit down.
"I suck at flying more than I thought." I grumbled, pulling my shades off my head and dropping them on the seat. With a raised eyebrow, he picked them up and looked at them.
"I have an idea."
"Thats a shocker." He rolled his eyes at me.
"But I'll need your clothes." I straightened in the seat instantly and leaned away from him with a confused look. "Don't take it the wrong way." After getting up, he pulled some money out of his pocket and handed it to me. "Go get yourself another outfit. I'm going to work on these." I watched him walk away before getting up, stretching and wincing at the new bruises. Let's hope I can actually find a good clothing store around here. Maybe I can convince Tony to put a fire pole in here so I don't have to use the elevator. As I walked outside, I was constantly going to push my shades up out of habit. A few people also gave me a couple of weird looks for it, but I've learned to ignore it. As soon as I walked into a store, I noticed that everybody was taller than me. Can't tell if thats an advantage or disadvantage. With a shrug, I grabbed a black t-shirt and light grey jeans in my size. The cashier gave me a strange look.
"Don't you want to try them on?"
"I'll be fine. I know my size." She just shrugged and I made my purcase.
"I have to say, you stick out like a sore thumb with what you're wearing."
"Thats how superheroes are supposed to look." I started walking out and threw a wink over my shoulder. I ended up grinning all the way back to Stark tower. And as soon as I walked into the workshop, Tony almost poked my eyes out with my shades.
"I modified them!" I gave him a questioning look and inspected the pink plastic. They look exactly the same. If a bit shinier. When I put them on, an interface popped up, highlighting Tony. It showed his heartrate, gender and how healthy he was. I had to take them off a few times to see if they were real.
"I was gone for like, 10 minutes!"
"I'm a genius!" He grinned. "I added the electronic interface and strengthened them with adamantium! Thats why I sent you out to get a change of clothes. I'm going to modify the rest of your outfit." I raised an eyebrow and put my shades back on my forehead. When he looked at me like an excited puppy, I sighed and handed him my trenchcoat, gloves and boots. "We're going to strengthen everything with adamantium!"
"Okay, I'll go and change because I want to see all this." I paused for thought. "Shouldn't we wash my clothes first?" He paused, too.
"Clean slate. Good thinking." Hey, you never know. I could become a stand-alone hero.
I am getting way too slow with these. I've been planning on revamping Jubilee for a while. I think tht the next chapter will be another plot point.
