Mutants of the mansion

Chapter 25

I think I'll add another character into here. For funzies. And a little side note, for LittleShadowGirl, It's a bad frame of mind that Jubilee has sometimes, she thinks that everybody finds her annoying.

(Jubilee)

The last thing I expected to hear was a ringtone. Coming from my own pocket. All my contacts were wiped. I pulled it out and looked at the numbers on the screen. Now I know why I still carry it. Now, who could it be? I flipped it open and held it to my ear.

"Hello?" A huge sigh of relief came from the other end.

"Holy hell, ah didn't actually expec' an answer." I felt my heart jump to my throat.

"Oh my gosh, Rogue?!" I even almost dropped my phone. "I didn't think that anybody knew I was still around!"

"Well, we have Laura t' thank for that." Her voice audibly cracked, and I could feel myself on the verge of tears.

"Please don't make me cry, I'm in the middle of a park." Hearing her laugh was a Godsend. "Trust me, I would have called before, but all my contacts were wiped."

"Who wiped them?" I grinned and went around a couple that were getting way too friendly.

"I guess that Laura told you. I'm still not giving up the name. I have to deal with them myself." With a smile, I found an unoccupied tree to sit under.

"You've been gone for a while."

"Whats been happening?" Hell, maybe everybody's been doing fine. Probably better than fine. I heard Rogue take a deep breath before talking.

"It's been hell without ya." Wait, what? "No one speaks 'nymore, theres barely 'ny movement, and the only person who seems 'ble t' cope with ya bein' gone is Kitty." I felt both of my hands clench up. What did she say in that movie? Oh yeah, Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know. Great, now I feel like singing.

"Not exactly the reaction I'd expect."

"What were ya expectin'?" I shook my head unconsiously.

"It doesn't matter. Forget I said it." I heard her sigh.

"Whats been happening with you, then?" I smiled, looking at the palm of my hand and watching the middle open and close.

"I can fly again." I didn't get a response. "Rogue?"

"Sorry, Sweet Pea, I gotta go. I think Cyclops is hunting me." I laughed and rubbed by eye. Don't cry. You're in a park.

"Don't worry, Rogue. I am going to come back." After a pause, I added: "I love you."

"I love you, too." It was a few minutes after the line went dead before I could take the phone away from my ear. That was completely the opposite of what I was expecting. I'd think that everybody was doing fine without me. Sure, they'd be sad that I was gone for a while, but I was sure that they'd get over it. Obviously, my current frame of mind is pretty wrong. Maybe I should change it. Yeah, like it's going to be that easy.

"Watch out!" I looked up just in time to have a frisbee hit me in my eyes. It stung, but I had to surpress the thought of what happened last time something hit me in the face. I pinched the bridge of my nose in an attempt to stop the throbbing, looked at the red plastic disc, then up at the group of 5 teenagers that all looked pretty scared. I shook my head, put my phone back into my pocket, grabbed and disc and stood up.

"Hey, I think your frisbee just landed in my face." Still looking like frightened rabbits. "Something wrong?"

"You're not going to hurt us, are you?"

"Nah, I'm not that kind of person." Although, If somebody asks me that, I don't think that hanging around is a good option. I just handed the toy back, shoved my hands into my coat pockets and headed back to the path I was previously walking. Tony made me leave the tower because He was meeting with the Avengers, or something. It's not like I wanted to meet them, or anything.

"Jubilee!" I got no chance to turn around. Karliah jumped onto my back and hooked her arms around my neck.

"Who could that be?" I joked, turning in a full circle. "It looks like I've been attacked by a ghost!"

"Close." She let go and hugged me when I turned to face her. "Hows life been treating you?"

"Well, I just got hit in the face with a frisbee." I grinned, pushing my shades up from my face. "What about you?"

"Well, after my boss saw me on TV, he almost fired me."

"Almost?"

"Yep. Turns out, a lot of people thought it was awesome and came into the shop to talk to me. We made more sales in that day than we had in 3 weeks. So, I still have a job. And a raise. Funny thing is, my dad basically didn't care. Then I told her that I was a mutant, he just looked at me, said: 'Don't kill anyone' and went back to reading." I tried to hold back a laugh. "Don't get me wrong, he loves me to pieces, but I just don't think that having a mutant for a daughter bothers him."

"Well, I started living with a team of mutants."

"A team?" She asked, her eyes widening in surprise.

"Ever heard of the X-men?" She nodded. "I was part of that team. And I hope to be part of it again."

"That sounds like it would be awesome!" I opened my mouth to say something, but somebody cut me off.

"Jubilation Lee!"

"That is one of the voices that I didn't want to hear." I sighed, turning to watch the Ice Queen known as Emma Frost stomp towards us. Thankfully, she was wearing a white suit instead of what she usually wore into battle. I had nightmares for a while in Gen X. I didn't even flinch when she grabbed my shoulders.

"What are you doing out here?"

"Enjoying the scenery." Her eyes narrowed.

"Don't toy with me, Jubilee. Why aren't you with the X-men?"

"I don't think I can trust you with that information." With a sigh of frustration, Emma released her grip and rubbed her temples. "Emma Frost. My old teacher."

"Maybe you shouldn't annoy her like that."

"Don't worry, Karliah. She's used to it. Aren't you, Frosty?" With another deep sigh, she looked at me again.

"Are you going to explain or not?" I shrugged and noticed something over her shoulder.

"Might have to make it a quick explanation." I grinned, waving at the approaching Laura.

I'd just like to point out that this story has been on the go for a year today. I still can't believe that you all put up with me for this long. But you all have my thanks because you take the time to read my fanfiction.
