Chapter 11:
"….that everything looks good, no abnormalities with the blood result and your iron levels look great"
Lilly breathed a sigh of relief "So everything is alright, the baby is alright?"
"The baby should be fine Lilly; if you're worried you do an amniocentesis when you are over 25 weeks that will give us a clearer idea of the health of the foetus"
"Thank you Dr Palmer"
"You're welcome Lilly I want to see you again in a month and congratulations"
"Thank you" Lilly replied again "thank you so much"
"My pleasure Lilly"
She hung up the phone and immediately dialled Scotty's phone number, relief flooding through her. Her baby was healthy and everything was going to be alright.
Scotty was staring down at the case file in front of him, trying to acquaint himself to the case his team were currently working on. He sighed and blindly reached over to his coffee mug, taking a rather large swig.
The phone on his desk rang and at first her stared at it for a little while before picking it up.
"Agent Valens"
"I am starting to like the sound of that, very hot"
Scotty chuckled as he recognised his wife's voice "Hey Querida, what's up"
"I just got a call from Dr Palmer with my blood results"
Scotty's heart skipped a beat, as much as he had tried to convince Lilly and himself that the baby would be alright, he was still terrified that something would be very wrong.
"What were the results?"
Lilly let out a slow breath "Everything is fine, at least as far as he can tell the baby is healthy"
"Oh Lil that's great"
"I know, you were right"
Scotty grinned "I'm always right"
Lilly giggled "I love you"
"I love you too"
Lilly sighed "getting these results has been a load off my mind"
"Me too Lil" Scotty agreed
"I want to tell the kids tonight about their new brother or sister" Lilly added as an afterthought
"Whatever you want"
"I better let you get back to work"
"Ok, I'll see you tonight. I'll try to leave here on time"
"Bye baby"
"Bye" Scotty replied and he hung up the phone.
Scotty pushed open the front door, hearing his children shrieking with laughter drifting in from the backyard. After putting away his gun he wandered into the kitchen finding Lilly scooping out the takeaway Chinese onto plates. He could see through the back window that the triplets were jumping through the sprinklers.
"Hey baby"
Lilly turned and grinned up at him "Hey" she leaned in and pressed a kiss to his lips "can you get the kids to come in?"
"Sure"
He walked into the backyard and Lilly watched as he playfully chased the kids around the yard, finally managing to scoop Matthew under one arm, Laura under the other and James clinging to his back. The four of them re-emerged into the living room, squealing in delight.
"Go get changed you three then come back down for dinner"
"Ok Daddy" Laura replied as she and her two brothers ran off and up the stairs to change out of their bathing suits.
Lilly slid her arms around his waist and lifted herself up on her tip toes to press a kiss to his lips "You hungry?"
"Starved"
"How do you think we should go about telling the kids about the baby?" Lilly asked curiously as she let her arms drop from his waist.
Scotty shrugged "I don't know, guess we just explain it to them"
"You want to explain to our children how we go pregnant?" Lilly exclaimed in surprise.
Scotty chuckled "not the best bits" he whispered pressing a kiss to her cheek and Lilly punched his arm.
After dinner, Lilly and Scotty sat the kids down in the living room. Lilly took a seat down on the coffee table and Scotty stood beside her, one hand resting on her shoulder.
"Mummy and Daddy have something to tell you" Lilly began
"Are we getting a puppy?" Laura asked happily "you said that we could get a doggy when Olivia and Tripod died"
Lilly felt a stab of pain as she thought about her to cats that had to be put down a few years ago when they'd gotten sick "No Laura, we aren't getting a puppy"
Laura pouted and crossed her arms angrily across her chest "Mummy and I have something very important to tell you"
"What Dad?" James asked
He took a deep breath "you three are going to have a new brother or sister in a few months"
The triplets all looked very confused "Mummy is going to have a baby" Lilly added
"Where are we getting the baby from?" Laura asked "the mall?"
Lilly and Scotty chuckled "no baby, not from the mall" Scotty informed his daughter.
"Then where?" James asked.
Lilly rubbed her hand across her tummy "from inside Mummy's tummy"
"How'd the baby get there?" Matthew asked, tilting his head to one side.
Oh dear, Lilly thought, the inevitable question, where do babies come from? How were they going to handle this one? But luckily Scotty stepped in to handle it.
"When a Mummy and a Daddy love each other very much, God gives them a little seed to grow in the Mummy's tummy" Scotty replied softly squatting down to his kid's level.
"So the baby is in there now?" Laura asked, pointing to Lilly's stomach
"Uh-huh"
Laura slid off the couch and came to sit beside her mother "hello baby" Laura said as she lowered her head level with Lilly's stomach.
Lilly ran her hand through her daughter's hair "the baby is too little to hear you right now sweetheart, when he gets a little older you can talk to him all you want, ok?"
Laura nodded "why don't you go get ready for bed and Daddy will be up to tuck you in" Scotty told her, brushing the tip of Laura's nose with his finger
Matthew, James and Laura nodded and hurried up the stairs to their bedroom.
"They took it well"
"I don't think they fully understood, but they will when the baby comes" Lilly replied as she rubbed her stomach.
Scotty nodded in agreement "I better get upstairs and tuck the kids in then I think that we should celebrate the fact that our baby is healthy"
Lilly gave him a wry smile "How should we celebrate" she asked, fiddling with his tie.
Scotty shrugged, his fingers spreading over her hips "I don't know, why don't you surprise me"
Lilly winked and kissed his lips briefly before turning to head up to their bedroom.
Lilly was looking at her reflection in the mirror, trying to contemplate what her body was going to look like in a few months. Was she going to look fat gain, like she had with the triplets? Probably, and Scotty most likely not want to sleep with her cause she'll look like a hippo. So it was now or never to get the most of her sex life before she looked like she swallowed a bowling ball.
She pushed open the bathroom door and found Scotty, lying in bed his head resting up against the backboard.
He looked up from his magazine as he heard the lights turn off and he grinned at her, tossing the magazine to the floor.
"You look really hot baby" Scotty replied as Lilly sauntered over to him, the red satin nightgown she was wearing, hugging her every curve, her breasts almost spilling out of the skimpy material.
"Well you better get used to me now, before I end up looking like the Goodyear blimp"
Scotty shook his head "No baby, you looked sexy when you were pregnant with the triplets"
Lilly giggled "I don't think sexy is the right word"
"Oh I do, get over here"
Lilly shook her head and walked over to him, lifting up the blankets and climbing on top of him "I love you so much"
Scotty brushed her long, flowing hair away from her shoulder "You are the love of my Life Lil, you and the kids are the best thing that ever happened to me"
He pulled her down to him, devouring her lips in a steamy kiss. Within minutes he had, stripped her of her nightgown, rolled her on her back and was kissing his way down her slender body, disappearing under the crisp sheets.
Mike and Allie knocked on Scotty and Lilly's front door, Mike carrying a large bowl of salad in one hand and Allie was carrying their four year old daughter Maria and a bottle of wine, Emilio stood beside his parents looking extremely bored.
"Wonder what is so important?" Mike asked his wife as they waited for someone to answer the door.
Allie shrugged "I don't know, Lil just said that they wanted the whole family to come over for dinner"
The door opened and the four of them looked down to see Matthew standing in the doorway.
"Tía Allie, Tío Mike!" he cried happily
"Hey buddy" Mike replied ruffling Matthew's hair with his free hand as they stepped over the threshold and into the living room "where's your dad and mum?"
"Mum's in the kitchen and Dad is in the backyard with Abuela and Abuelo cooking on the barbecue"
"Why don't you go find Laura sweetie" Allie told her daughter as she lowered Maria to the floor "and give me that salad Mike, I'll go help Lil in the kitchen"
"Sure, I might go help out my kid brother before he burns the steaks"
Lilly looked up from the chopping board as Allie walked into the kitchen "Hey Allie"
"Hi Lil, need a hand?"
Lilly shook her head "no, I'm good"
Allie grinned "I'm surprised that Rosa is not in here insisting that she help you"
Lilly chuckled "I told her that Scotty needed help with the barbeque"
"So why did you organise this dinner?"
Lilly shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly "No reason, it's just been awhile since we've had everyone over"
Allie nodded "I'm just gonna give you a hand with those vegetables, I don't want you to have to do everything"
Lilly grinned "Thanks Allie"
Out in the garden, Scotty was busy turning the steaks and sausages and chatting to his brother and father in rapid Spanish. Apparently his father and brother both had opinions on how best to cook the meat. Rosa sat at the picnic table, with her two granddaughters as they coloured in one of Laura's colouring books.
Scotty looked up from the hot griddle and smiled as he saw his wife, sister-in-law, nephew and two sons enter the backyard, each carrying a bowl or plate of food.
Lilly approached them and handed him a fresh beer "thanks" he replied as he took it from her gratefully.
"No problem" she pressed a kiss to his cheek "is the meat done?"
"Think so"
"Good, I'll set the kids up at the smaller table"
Scotty grinned "ok baby"
Everyone took their seats and Scotty cleared his throat, and gently banged his fork on his glass. He stood up and his family looked up at him expectantly.
"Thanks for coming everyone, and I suppose that you are all wondering why Lil and I invited you here"
"We were a little curious Mi hijo" Ramiro replied
Lil placed her hand on his arm and gave it a gentle squeeze "well Lil and I got some good news last week…" he took a deep breath and sighed "Lil and I are having a baby, we're pregnant"
Mike, Allie, Rosa and Ramiro all stared up at Scotty and Lil in silence for a few moments, as if unable to believe what Scotty had just told them all.
"Are you serious?" Mike asked, looking between Lilly and his brother.
"Yeah, Lil's five weeks pregnant"
"Oh Mi hijo, I'm so happy for you" His mother exclaimed as she stood up and pulled her son into a hug "for both of you" she added and hurried around to give Lilly a hug as well.
"Congratulations" Mike said as he kissed Lilly on the cheek
"Thanks Mike"
"This is really great Lil you must be really happy" Allie added, standing up to give Scotty a hug.
Lilly nodded "yeah, we're really excited and so are the kids"
"This is great news" Ramiro said cheerily "another child is always a blessing"
Lilly and Scotty shared a look of relief; frankly they both thought that his family would have not been supportive of the fact they decided to have more children but it was a relief to find how happy they all were for them.
After dinner, Allie, Rosa and Lilly went up to the spare room so she could show them what she wanted to do for the new baby's room, Ramiro tossed the football around with James, Matthew and Emilio, Laura and Maria continued to colour and draw and Mike and Scotty were in the kitchen, washing up.
"So, you and Lil decided to have more kids huh?"
Scotty shrugged "yeah, we talked and both decided that we wanted to have more children"
"That's good man, I am really happy for both of you" Mike replied and then chuckled "five weeks though, that was round about the time of my birthday party"
"Yeah"
"You know there was one point that no one knew where the two of you had gone, you guys disappeared for like twenty minutes" Scotty cleared his throat "Oh man, don't tell me that you guys used Allie's and my bed"
Scotty scowled "no man, of course not…..we ahh….we snuck off into the garden…behind the garden shed actually"
Mike laughed "you two seriously screwed in our backyard, with Ma and Dad in the house?"
Scotty rolled his eyes "we were a little drunk and she was ovulating, seemed like a good idea at the time"
"Well, be thankful that Ma didn't catch you two going at it"
Scotty nodded "ahem to that, think Lil woulda killed me"
"Look man, in all seriousness, if you need anything we are all here for you and Lil"
"Thanks Mike"
Scotty turned his attention back to the dishes and the two men fell into silence as two of them finished cleaning up.
