Chapter 17: The Fight part 1

#A/N. Hello everyone! Here's Chapter 17 - YIPPIE! Haha.

To Leila: Yep, you are usually first! And you were the first to comment on the last chapter too. My favorite characters are Bella and Edward (of course). But Bella is my most favorite. I'd pick her over anyone else any day. TEAM BELLA! Haha :).

To Jessica314: To answer your question, yes, the monster would have control over Bella's shield. They're the same mind and body, so it would only make sense for the monster to be able to manipulate the shield...I always like your questions. You have one of the comments that I always look forward to the most. And, to be perfectly honest with you, you always manage to make me think of conclusions that I originally hadn't thought of myself (which is weird because I'm the author and I should be looking at things from every possible angle). And that leads me to completely change and add some things to this story. Thank you - YOU ROCK YOU WONDERFUL PERSON!

This chapter is a little shorter than the last, but that's ok because WE'RE BUILDING UP TO SOMETHING GOOD.

Please Review and post ANY Comments.

Enjoy! :)

*Edward's POV*

We arrived in Italy just after midnight.

The trip lasted for a total of 6 hours – 6 excruciating hours. It seemed as though we couldn't get to Italy quick enough, and my pessimistic mood – as Rosalie called it – only seemed to draw the time out more. I had only allowed myself to calm down fully when we crossed the border into the city.

"Finally." I sighed.

Alice chuckled. "I told you we wouldn't be on the plane for too much longer."

"Yes, you did Alice." I started. "But that didn't make the time less painful." I dragged a hand through my hair and tugged on it, messing it up further.

Alice made a face. "You survived." She sniffed.

"Hey, where do you want me to land?" Emmett's booming voice floated into the room – interrupting me before I could reply to Alice.

"Somewhere vacant, somewhere no humans would readily wander to." Jasper answered. He stood up, gently pulled his hand from out of Alice's grasp, and headed to the pilot's room to assist Emmett. I opened the curtain to look out the window.

It was pitch black outside – though that didn't cause any change in the way I saw my surroudnings. I could still see perfectly in the dark.

Emmett had led us to a dark alley – the only light provdided was that from the moon, for there were no street lights or buildings in the area. It was completely vacant.

"Perfect." I said. The chances of any humans coming this way were slim, the alley didn't excatly have the best atmosphere for humans. We landed on the ground with a smooth glide.

"Ha! That's how you do it!" Emmett boomed coming out of the pilot's room with Jasper trailing behind him. We all then exited the plane, I was the last out so I made sure the doors were closed securley. The wolves and Carlisle and Esme landed just as we all unboared the plane. An angry Paul was the first to step out.

"I almost died in there from the freaking smell." He grumbled, his arms shaking.

Embry was the next out. "Chill, Paul. You're getting worked up over nothing – your petty argument with Quil was over an hour ago too – there's no reason to get all bent out of shape.

Paul only scowled at him and continued to shake.

"Calm down, Paul." Sam said coming up behind him and placing a firm hand on his shoulder. He shook it off.

"Yeah, man." Quil said coming to stand next to him. "All of this over losing a game. It's not my fault you're a sore loser."

That earned him a glare from Paul.

"Enough." Sam's voice held authority. "We didn't come all thi way for this."

"No." Paul patronized, still irritated which caused him to lash out. "We came all this was to save a freaking a bloodsucker, one that I'm not even sure is worth it."

I was in Paul's face before he could even blink. I grabbed him by the neck and pushed him forcefully against the plane.

"Don't you dare speak of my wife that way." I snarled into his face. Before he could respond, Emmett pulled me roughly away from him. Sam quickly grabbed a hold of Paul.

"Calm down, bro." Emmett hissed at me.

"Enough of this!" Carlisle bellowed.

Everyone stilled.

"We are here to safe Bella." He said, looking at each one of us. "Don't forget that – everything else is irrelevant."

"Carlisle." Alice said calmly, she was the first one to break the silence that followed. "I had a vision on the plane. It was of Bella."

"What happened, Alice?" he turned his full attention on her.

Alice quickly filled him in on her vision – not missing a single detail.

"Ah." Carlisle sighed. "This is a drastic turn of events."

"What do we do know, Carlisle?" Esme asked.

"The same as what we were planning to do – it's the only thing we can do." Carlisle then turned towards me. "Edward, I want you to lead. Jasper, Emmett and myself will be right behind you."

I nodded my head. "The rest can file out in the way that will put the best fighters behind us, everyone with a gift behind them, and the wolves making up the rear." Everyone nodded in understanding.

Carlisle closed his eyes and sighed. "If only this wasn't coming to a fight."

"A fight is inevitable. We all know that." I placed a hand on his shoulder in comfort.

"I know." He sighed and then took a deep breath. "Alright, lets move out."

We all fell in formation, with me in the front as Carlisle had planned. The wolves went behind the planes to phase. As soon as they were transformed, we were running at top speed to the Volturi's castle. I tried my best too keep pace with everyone, but my passion to save Bella was drawing me forward and away from them.

"Just go, Edward." Carlisle called out to me. "We will meet you there."

Without needed further assurance, I sped up and away from them. On my own, I made it to the castle in a matter of minutes. The castle looked the same from the last time I'd been here – though I suspected as much – in an attempt to kill myself when I thought Bella was dead. I quickly moved my thoughts away from the painful memory. I leaned against the stone castle, hidden in the shadows in case someone happened to come this way, and waited for the others.

A few minutes passed before they arrived.

"Alright." I said as they approached me. "This way." I led them into the underground tunnel that I knew led into the castle. Sure enough, we were soon inside the castle's walls.

"We're going to go in as quietly as we can, even though there's a high chance they will notice us regardless." Carlisle advised.

As we burst into the main room, we were ment with a bunch gaurds facing the door, ready for us. Aro, Marcus, and Caius were sitting at their thrones. A smirk plastered on Caius's face.

"Hello dear ones." Aro sang.

*Bella's POV*

The monster contiued to twist and turn in a feeble attempt to loosen Felix and Demetri's hold on my arms. It let out another enraged cry.

"Hush now, Bella, we're almost there. My my, you have been naughty today." Felix chuckled.

"I didn't know you had it in you." Demetri added as he tightend his grasp on my arm.

The monster only roared in response and gave my arm another violent shake. Felix's hand slipped loose for a fraction of a second before regaining its tight hold. He threw the monster a glare.

"Stop that, Bella." He growled.

Behave yourself. We're already in enough trouble as it is. I moaned.

Felix and Demetri led my body down a series of narrow hallways. Each hallway was dark – with only torches that were attached to the walls being a source of light – with stone, hard marble floors. A few ancient Italian artifacts – mostly old statues and paintings - acted as decorations. Finally, after being led down a long staircase, we stopped in front of the only door that was on the floor. The door seemed to be made of a type of metal. It had mutliple chains and locks, fully intending to keep someone out.

"Ah, here we are." Felix said.

With a quick flick of his wrist, Felix snapped the locks on the door and pulled me inside. The room was dark inside, and completely made of metal. There were long slits in the walls – the kind that were found in the most prestigous chef kitchens that were intended to make french breads and pizzas – and there was a tall pole in the center of the room that connected to the ceiling and the floor. Long chains were attached to either side of the pole. The room smelled oddly of rust and soot. As the monster took a deep breath, the smell of burned flesh hit my nostrils with intensity.

I knew what this room was immediately.

Oh god. This is a boiler room. I gasped in horror.

The monster stiffened with its understanding.

We were going to be burned alive.

The monster started to twist and turn with renewed vigor.

"I really wish we didn't have to do this Bella." Felix said sounding geniuenly upset. "I have grown most attached to you, I'm afraid."

"Aro's orderes." Demetri whispered as he chained my arms and legs to the poles. Felix came to stand directly in front of me, cupped my face in his hands, and placed a soft kiss on my lips. The monster thrased around in outrage at his touch.

"So soft." Felix murmured. He ran his hands through my hair and over my arms, stopping at my hands and taking them gently in his. He held my hands firmly in his and looked me squarely in the eye.

"Isabella." He whispered. "It has been a pleasure." He lifted my hand to his lips and kissed it. Nodding at Demetri, and glided to the door – Demetri right behind him. Before exiting, he flipped a switch that was on the wall. The door slammed behind them.

A soft groaning sound sounded around the room. The smell of gasoline filled the room, dulling all other scents.

Do something! I shrieked. Don't just stand there – try to break the chains! Hurry!

To my surprise, the monster did as I told it. It yanked and pulled on the chains with all the strength it could muster – and yet it wasn't enough.

"No!" the monster growled wildly.

Oh god, oh god, oh god. I chanted. The chains must be stronger, much stronger than what was in the room. We're not strong enough to break them!

The monster let out another loud growl. "I can't!" it moaned out.

Before I could ask it what it meant, I was suddenly flying. The monster had forcefully yanked me from the corner of my mind where it kept me imprisoned. It pushed me forward and settled back into the place where I once kept it locked tightly. A fading echo of a growl went through my head, and suddenly, I was back in control of my own body.

My mind was totally my own again.

Instead of feeling joy, I felt sick because of the reason as to why the monster suddenly gave up. Obviously, it couldn't deal with the consequences of its actions and left me alone in this. The coward.

The smell of gasoline grew more prominent, and I knew it was only a matter of minutes before the room was engulfed in flames.

My panic and fear only rised with the smell.

I forced myself to calm down. I would not spend my last moments this way. Not when I could spend them thinking about my Edward and Renesmee.

It was hard to believe that I would never see them again. I would never hear Renesmee's carefree laugh, hear a soothing heartbeat, watch her sleep. I would never feel her warm hand pressed to my face as she communciated with me through her gift. I would never see my little girl grow up into a woman. I wouldn't be there to support her through any hard decisions she may face.

I wouldn't be here for her wedding.

That thought alone was enough to cripple me.

And Edward. He was my whole world – my everything. He was the other half of me.

I'd never see him again. I would never be dazzled by him, never smell his intoxicating scent, never feel his arms around me. I would never hear him tell me he loved me again.

I would never return the love.

And I would never see the rest of my family again.

But they were strong. They could get on without me. They had too. It would be the way it was before I even came into their lives. But something told me it wouldn't. They were as much attached to me as I was to them. I just prayed that Edward wouldn't do anything stupid, for Renesmee's sake. She would need him, more than ever. They would need eachother.

I knew Jacob would be there for Renesmee too. He truly would be the perfect match for my daughter and I was glad that she had him. I would miss my best friend.

Charlie. I'd never see him either.

Or my mother – not even one last time, even if it had to be from a distance. But I had already said my goodbyes to both my parents.

I let out a loud scream as the first wave of flames seeped out from the slits on the walls and onto the floor.

I closed my eyes as I waited for the flames to touch my skin
