Chapter 15:
"How was the park boys?" Lilly asked as her husband, two sons and Humphrey came into the kitchen Saturday afternoon.
"Good" Scotty replied, kissing her quickly on the lips "we tossed the ball around for Humphrey, grabbed a hotdog"
"Sounds like fun"
"It was" Matthew replied, pulling himself up onto the bar stool.
"Where's Laura?" Scotty asked, taking off his baseball cap and tossing it on the counter and running his fingers through his sweat soaked hair.
"Upstairs in her room, your mum is teaching her to knit"
"Knit?"
Lilly nodded "Rosa is knitting some clothes for the baby and Laura wanted to learn how"
Scotty nodded "I'm gonna take a quick shower and then I'll help you with dinner for tonight"
Lilly nodded "Matthew, James, why don't you get Humphrey some water he might be thirsty after his run in the park"
"Ok Mum, come on Humphrey" James said as he walked out the back door.
Humphrey, who was lying on the cool kitchen floor, got to his feet, yawned and followed his young masters outside.
"You look good enough to eat" Scotty whispered in her ear as she stood over the bathroom sink, applying her make-up.
Lilly grinned "maybe tonight, if you behave yourself"
Scotty chuckled and pressed a kiss to the back of her neck, damn he loved it when she wore her hair up "so, what's this David guy like? He good enough for Lindsay"
Lilly smiled "Lindsay says he is, she really seems to love him so I am willing to give him a chance"
Scotty nodded "well then I might go call off the background check I had running on him" he added with a teasing smile
Lilly rolled her eyes, closed the lid of her compact and turned to kiss his cheek "they'll be here any minute, maybe you should sheath that butter knife sharp wit of yours"
"Noted" Scotty replied brushing a loose lock of hair away from her face and lightly kissing her lips.
The doorbell rang, and Scotty and Lilly both turned, downstairs they could hear Humphrey yapping in the hallway. "You go get the door and I'll be down in a few minutes" Scotty nodded and left his wife to finish applying her makeup.
Scotty bounded down the stairs, snapped at Humphrey to be quiet and pulled open the front door. Scotty came face to face with a middle aged African American man wearing a dark blue shirt and tie, a little girl about the same age as the triplet's, was clinging to her father's leg. "You must be David" Scotty greeted then stranger "I'm Scotty" Scotty held out his hand and David's shook it.
"Yeah, Linds told me all about you and your wife, glad we are finally meeting"
"Where is Lindsay?"
"Getting something out of the car"
Scotty nodded and looked down at the little girl, who was staring wide eyed and somewhat terrified up at him. He squatted down on her level and she tried to hide further behind her father. "You must be Tilly, would you like to come in and meet my daughter Laura, she's about your age"
Tilly didn't say anything, she just stared out from her hiding spot "Tilly is a little shy but I am sure she'll be ok" David replied as Scotty stood up.
Lindsay appeared at her fiancée's side and she smiled at Scotty "hey, congratulations on the new baby"
Scotty gave Lindsay a hug "Thanks Linds, come on in" Scotty stepped back and allowed David, Lindsay and Tilly into the hallway.
Humphrey, in his usual friendly manner, began investigating the new comers earning himself a quick scratch on the top of the head from both David and Lindsay. When he spotted Tilly he barked happily and started happily licking at her hand "hi doggy" Tilly whispered.
"His name in Humphrey" Scotty announced.
Tilly lifted her hand and patted Humphrey on his back "hi Humphrey"
Laura, Matthew and James came down the stairs and Scotty smiled "Come and meet Lindsay's new friend David and his daughter Tilly"
Laura smiled "Hi I am Laura" Laura said to Tilly "wanna come play in my room?"
Tilly looked up at her father "can I Daddy?"
"Sure baby, go have fun"
"We can play Candy land?" Laura suggested and Tilly nodded vigorously, Laura took her hand and led Tilly up the stairs to her bedroom.
Lilly heard the two girls giggling as they ran up the hallway and she smiled, at least Tilly and Laura seemed to be getting on well. That little girl had been through so much and was happy that things seemed to be turning around for her. She pushed open the bedroom door and went downstairs to join her husband.
Dinner had been great, meeting David and seeing just how much he loved Lindsay and just how much both David and Tilly loved Lindsay was comforting to Lilly. Lindsay had never really had much luck with men and with David it seemed like she'd hit the jackpot.
"I am glad that Lindsay is happy" Lilly said as she and Scotty cleaned up the dishes after Lindsay, David and Tilly left that night.
"Yeah, he seems like a good guy"
Lilly smiled "and it doesn't hurt that he's a sports medicine doctor for the Eagles"
Scotty grinned "he says he can get great tickets and said that he could get the boys into meet the team"
Lilly chuckled "well he definitely won you over; you seemed to have developed a bit of a man crush on David"
Scotty smirked "very funny Lil" he said as he kissed her cheek "why don't you go upstairs and I'll finish up the rest of these dishes"
"Are you sure? Ok then thanks" she kissed his cheek "don't take too long" she winked at him and Scotty knew without a shadow of a doubt that Lilly was hoping for more of what had happened last night. Quickly finishing up the dishes, he turned off the kitchen lights and bounded up the stairs to the bedroom.
Monday morning brought with it some early autumn rains and Lilly was awoken by the low rumbling of thunder. She rolled over and found Scotty's side of the bed empty yet again, sighing heavily she stared up at the ceiling. She heard the bedroom door opening and knew that it was Laura she was absolutely terrified of thunder storms, ever since she was a baby. "Mummy"
Lilly looked over at the door "yeah baby?"
"Can I come into your bed?"
Lilly nodded just as a loud clap of thunder sounded. Laura shrieked and practically dove under the covers, clinging to Lilly's side. "Where is Daddy?"
"He went to work"
"But he always hugs me during the storms, makes me feels better" Laura protested
"I know sweetie, but you can hug Mummy instead"
Laura nodded and wrapped her arms around Lilly's waist "can we stay here all day?"
Lilly kissed the top of Laura's dark blonde hair "I am sorry baby we can't, Mummy has to go to work and you have to go to school"
Laura sighed "I wish Daddy was here" Laura pouted.
"I know, me too"
Luckily the storm only lasted less than an hour and Lilly was able to get Laura out of her bed and back to her own room to get ready for school. After dropping the kids off, she headed over to Central to start work.
Stillman was already in his office and she knocked on the metal door frame.
"Mornin' Boss"
Stillman looked up at her and smiled "morning Lil, how you feeling today?"
"Good, the nausea has finally eased up. I just wanted to remind you that I have my 9 week scan today I need to leave by 1"
"Sure Lil, you have enough lost hours stored up"
Lilly grinned "thanks Boss" Lilly replied and she turned to leave his office
"And Lil?" Stillman added just before she got to the door
"Yeah Boss?"
"Bring photos; I wanna see my pseudo grandchild"
Lilly grinned "Sure"
At 1:30 that afternoon, Lilly was making her way up to Scotty's new office plastic visitors badge clipped to the front of her jacket. When the elevator doors opened on the 11th floor, Lilly found herself in a large, open plan office space, much like Central's bullpen, but judging from the electronic white boards and top of the line computers, they definitely had a better budget than the PPD.
"Can I help you Ma'am?" A tall dark haired Man in a rather expensive looking suit.
"Yeah, I am looking for my husband…. Detec..I mean Agent Valens"
"I thought I recognised you, I must say your photos don't do you justice"
Lilly frowned "I am sorry?"
"Your Lilly right, I am Jack, Scotty's partner"
Lilly smiled in recognition "Oh right, I was wondering when I was going to get to meet you"
Jack nodded "likewise" he said holding out a hand to shake hers "congratulations on the new baby by the way"
"Thanks" Lilly replied and she shook his hand "so have you seen Scotty"
Jack nodded "sure, follow me" Lilly fell into line behind Jack and they walked down the hallway to a room that looked rather like a corporate type board room, Lilly could see through the glass walls that her husband and a dozen or so other agents were getting briefed by the obvious agent in charge.
"Sorry to interrupt Liam, but I need to steal Scotty"
Agent Carter nodded and Scotty got to his feet, a confused look on his face. He followed Jack back out of the room and then spotted Lilly.
"Lil? What's wrong, is it one of the kids?"
Lilly shook her head "no, we have my 9 week scan at 2 remember, I was picking you up"
Scotty sighed "crap I forgot, I am sorry"
"That's alright" Lilly replied "we can still make it"
Scotty frowned "I can't Lil, we're about to go on a bust"
"Oh" Lilly replied, somewhat disappointed.
"I can cover for you Scotty if you need to go, I am sure Agent Carter won't miss you this onetime"
"Are you sure?" Scotty asked his partner
Jack shrugged "hey I'm the one without a life; you should go to the ultrasound"
Lilly smiled her thanks at Jack for giving Scotty and out "thanks man" Scotty replied, sliding his arm around Lilly's waist and guiding her towards the elevators.
"You ready for to see your baby again?" Dr Palmer asked as he entered the exam room later that afternoon.
"Definitely" Lilly replied with a smile, taking hold of Scotty's hand.
"Alright then, let's get started then"
He started by getting her by getting her on the scales, telling her that her weight gain was perfect for this stage of her pregnancy. Next he took her blood pressure and when it came back high he scolded her slightly about taking it easy and not to overdo it. After taking some blood to run further tests, he got her up onto the exam table, gently feeling her abdomen trying not to press to hard "Everything feels good, I'll fire up the ultrasound machine. You have that DVD ready?"
"In my bag" she replied "baby can you bring it to me?" she asked, turning her head slightly to look at Scotty. He nodded and pulled the blank disc out of her bag as he dragged his chair beside the table.
Lilly lifted her shirt, and undid the top button of her pants as Dr Palmer draped a towel over her legs "ok, here we go"
He shook the ultrasound gel bottle a bit and the drizzled some on her stomach, apologising for it being cold. He gently pressed the probe to her abdomen, twisting and moving it around until he found the perfect spot.
"There we go" he replied pointing at the screen.
"Oh my god" Scotty breathed, he pressed a kiss to the back of his wife's hand "there he is"
"Or she" Lilly corrected him with a grin.
Dr Palmer chuckled "it's still too early to tell guys but…the baby…looks healthy. The limbs are forming well and I see no signs of any abnormalities"
"That's a relief" Lilly replied
"Now let's just turn up the volume here and see if we can detect a heartbeat yet" He twiddled the knobs and the next second the room was filled with the familiar echoing booming "Oh I missed that sound" Scotty remarked amusement colouring his tone
Lilly squeezed his hand "well you better savour it, this is going to be our last"
Scotty grinned "this is one of the best days of my life Querida" he whispered gently
"I know what you mean" Lilly countered
Dr Palmer wiped off the excess gel off her stomach and she sat up "I'll have the results of your blood tests tomorrow, but I am positive that everything will be alright" he added "I want to see you again in 3 weeks for you three month scan ok, just make an appointment with Becky"
"Thanks Doc" Scotty replied, holding out his hand and shook it.
"No problem Scotty, see you in a few weeks"
