Chapter 16:
Scotty and Lilly headed back home after their appointment, deciding that there was no point them heading back to work when the day was almost over. Besides, Stillman had already given Lilly the rest of the day and Agent Carter told Scotty that Scotty that he deserved the afternoon off. Lilly shed her jacket as they walked into the house, hanging it on the coat rack and sighing contentedly "So what do you wanna do now?" she asked her husband.
Scotty grinned and slid his arms around her waist "I'll give you three guesses"
Lilly chuckled, draping her arms over his shoulders "I don't think I'm gonna need the other two guesses"
Scotty lowered his lips down to meet hers and Lilly sighed in delight. Lilly's hands slid under his jacket and it fell to the floor and Scotty gripped at her waist, lifting her up. She wrapped her long legs around him and he carried her up the stairs to their room.
"Where do you think you're goin?" Scotty asked sleepily as Lilly lifted her head off his chest and slid from the bed.
"I have to go pick up the kids from school" Lilly replied as she hunted around for her bra and panties.
Scotty frowned "I thought Ma picked them up in the afternoons"
"She does normally, but since Boss gave me the day off I told your Mum that I would….have you seen my bra?"
Scotty chuckled "over on the TV"
Lilly hurried over to it and put it on "I'll be back in like half an hour"
Scotty groaned and sat up "but I thought you wanted to spend the afternoon with me"
Lilly pulled her pants back on and walked back over to the bed, bending down to press a kiss to his lips "I do but I am already running late"
Scotty wrapped his fingers around her forearm and tried to pull her back down on top of him "I'll just call Ma, tell her something came up and that she needs to get the kids"
Lilly raised her eyebrow "Yeah, I can just hear how that conversation would go, 'hey Ma, can you go pick up the kids so Lil and I can have sex a couple of more times'" She replied, trying to imitate his voice.
"Very funny"
Lilly grinned "I have to go"
Scotty sighed and released his wife, falling back onto the pillows "Well we'll just have to pick this up tonight then"
Lilly giggled "I'll see you later"
The weeks flew by and before she knew it she was in her 15th week of her pregnancy and everything seemed to be going well. Her stomach had popped and she was finally looking like she was pregnant.
Lilly was taking her doctor's advice and was taking it easy, making sure not to lift anything heavy and keeping her stress levels down. And she was managing pretty well too, until one Monday morning.
Lilly was sitting in the conference room with Kat talking to a witness in their latest case, taking notes as the poor woman describe the last time she'd seen her son. Vera knocked on the doorframe and cleared his throat "sorry to interrupt, Detective Rush can I have a word?"
Lilly excused herself and got to her feet, following Vera back to the squad room. "What's this about?"
Vera shrugged "there is a woman here that insisted on seeing you…and only you"
Lilly sighed "ok get her to wait by my desk. I need to get some more orange juice" She turned into the breakroom to pour herself some juice.
Normally she didn't like orange juice but she'd had a craving for it the past couple of weeks and right now, she could go for a really go for a glass.
She took a sip, and gently rubbed her slightly swollen belly, before making her way back over to her desk. She knew that she was basically the face of the cold case squad, ever since that article came out in the paper. The reporter made it seem like she was in charge and nearly everyone that came in with new direction on unsolved cases asked to speak to her.
The others usually managed to handle it, but they did get the occasional relative that only wanted to talk to her. This was obviously one of those times and Vera was just too lazy to deal with it himself.
She rounded the corner and her eyes searched the bullpen for the mystery woman. There she was, hunched over Lilly's desk, with Lilly's wedding photo in her hand. Lilly rolled her eyes, what was it with people and their need to touch other peoples stuff.
"Excuse me" Lilly replied rather sternly. The woman jumped and turned around to face her and Lilly's eyes widened "What are you doing here?" Lilly snapped angrily.
"Hey Lil"
"You're not supposed to be here" Lilly added
"Come on Lil, I am your sister….can we at least talk?"
"No, get out"
"Please Lil"
Lilly sighed and looked around, noting that everyone in the bullpen was staring at them. She rolled her eyes, grabbed her sister's arm and dragged her into a spare conference room.
"What do you want Chris?"
Chris sighed "I…..wanted to see my sister"
Lilly scoffed "after nearly 11 years you suddenly get the urge to see me? More likely that you've gotten yourself in trouble and you need me to get you out of it….again"
Chris shook her head "I'm not in trouble Lil, I just wanted to come back home" Lilly ran a hand through her hair and sighed heavily so Chris tried another tactic "I saw the wedding photos on your desk, I didn't know you got married….how long ago?"
"5 years ago" Lilly replied coolly
"And were those kids your niece and nephews?"
Lilly shook her head "no, they are my kids"
Chris smiled "you have three kids? Wow…congratulations Lil, I'm really happy for you"
"Chris, why are you really here?" Lilly asked in frustration.
"I want things to go back to the way things were, back when we were kids"
Lilly scoffed "you mean before you slept with my fiancée?"
"Come on Lil, it was over a decade ago are you still mad about that?"
Lilly shook her head "you don't get it Chris I trusted you and you betrayed my trust by sleeping with Patrick"
"It was a mistake Lil, I know that and you can't believe how sorry I am about that"
Lilly sighed "just get out of here Chris, I am really not interested in anything you have to say" Lilly turned on her heel and walked out of the conference room, leaving her sister alone.
"What's the matter Querida?" Scotty asked as Lilly turned over yet again in bed, sighing in frustration "are you feeling alright?"
Lilly sighed "yeah, I am ok" she replied "it's just I can't sleep"
Scotty pulled her into his arms "can I do anythin?"
Lilly shook her head "No….I mean…." Lilly trailed off and sighed again "Chris came to the precinct today"
"Chris? Chris who?"
Lilly rolled her eyes "my sister"
Scotty frowned "your sister, but I thought you hadn't spoken to her in years"
"I hadn't but she shows up out of the blue today, saying she wants to make amends" Lilly said "but I know she's up to something, after what she did last time I just can't trust her"
Scotty pressed a kiss to her forehead "I know its hard baby, she betrayed you, but….."
Lilly scowled "but what?" she snapped icily
He sighed he wasn't going to let her intimidate him this time "but…she's your family Lil, family is important"
"No, you and the kids….that's my family"
"I just think that maybe you should hear her out"
"Can we not talk about this anymore?"
Scotty nodded "ok"
Lilly pillowed her head in his chest, her fingers tracing patterns over his muscles "so how's work going?" Lily asked trying to change the subject. She knew he was frustrated with her about Chris and she supposed if she was in his position she'd be mad at her too, but Scotty didn't get it. Mike didn't sleep with Elisa when she and Scotty were engaged; his brother didn't stab him in the back.
Scotty preached family togetherness and forgiveness but he didn't have a family like hers.
She hadn't spoken to her mother in years, the last time she saw her father she was 10 and now her whore of a sister was trying to weasel her way back into her life.
Lilly suddenly realised that Scotty was talking, and she wondered just how much she'd missed as she was lost in her own thoughts.
"...we reckon we are close to busting open their whole organisation"
Lilly smiled and kissed his chest "that's good Scotty, I'm glad that you're happy with the Feds"
He hugged her tighter, and buried his face in her hair, breathing her in "I wasn't sure at first, but I kinda like it. Given me more freedom than when I was in PPD"
Lilly lifted her head up and grinned "plus you do look really hot in those dark sunglasses"
"Oh yeah?" Scotty asked his eyebrow raising.
Lilly nodded and she lifted the sheet, that covered them both and she straddled him. "Uh huh"
Scotty's smile was blinding and he lifted his hand, pulling her down towards him and she went willingly.
The weekend came and Scotty managed to convince his wife that she needed a girl's night out with Allie, Kat and Lindsay, so she was out to dinner and he was home alone with the triplets.
After he'd given them dinner and they'd had their baths, the four of them settled in the living room to watch a movie. The kids wanted to have a toy story marathon, watching all 3 movies back to back. Scotty was reluctant at first but given that it was Saturday night he gave in, even putting a big bowl of popcorn out. The boys sat on the floor in their beanbags with Humphrey and Laura sat up on the couch next to Scotty, as the movie started.
"Can we stay up all night Daddy?" Laura asked as she snuggled up to her father.
Scotty chuckled "I don't think so baby, we have church tomorrow"
"But Humphrey gets to stay up all night" she reasoned, pointing down at the chocolate lab, who was currently eating the popcorn that Matthew was tossing to him.
Scotty smiled "well Humphrey is a dog and you are my little Princesa" he replied, pressing a kiss to the top of her dark blonde hair.
She seemed satisfied with that answer and she grabbed a handful of popcorn before her brothers and dog could eat it all.
Halfway through the first movie there came a knock on the door, Scotty sighed and checked his watch, wondering who could possibly be at the door after 7pm.
"Stay here guys" Scotty said to his kids and he got off the couch and walked down the hallway to the front door. He checked through the peephole and he tensed.
Even though he'd never met her, he'd seen pictures and although they were a decade old, there was no mistaking that their night time visitor was none other than Christina Rush, his sister-in-law.
