READ FIRST: Okay, so this one was actually really hard to write, this is why it's a really late upload. There will be no reply back to your reviews (to those who have) (SORRY). And finally, I'm not very happy with this chapter so I hope you all enjoy it :) I will try and make the next one a tad longer, I feel like the next or possibly the one after should be a big one... With a cliff hanger... M'ahahaha!

ALSO, I HAVE ALMOST FINISHED COLLEGE! :D

Chapter 6 - No!

He waited.

He didn't know how long for but he watched as he waited, waited for Tauriel to return, waited for some sign to say she was okay and waited while keeping a safe distance from the gates after what happened twenty seven nights ago.

A long time had passed since that day.

Thranduil leaned up against an old tree in the garden's of his palace, his beloved wife beside him, hand in hand as they both looked upon their child. Legolas had become restless and worried as the Captain hadn't returned back to the palace after day six. He began to sleep with his parents again, waking up and sneaking out of their room without them noticing (even though they did every night), only to sit in the gardens and wait for Tauriel to return. From what they both knew, he was only getting a few hours sleep, roughly two or four a night. It wasn't healthy for Legolas at all at such a young age he was but they both felt as if they couldn't stop their small babe from doing so.

Both parents became increasingly worried when Legolas would begin to sit outside on the rainy days, wearing only thin clothing. They would have to physically drag their child out from the gardens and into shelter, dry him off, put new clothes on him before he was off to the closest window to peer out and gaze onto the path, waiting still for the captain to return.

"He has grown very fond of her." Estelwen said after a few minutes of silence had passed between herself and her husband, her eyes never leaving the back of her child as he looked so small sat in the flower beds..

Thranduil nodded "I am afraid he has grown too fond, meleth-nin. She will be back in due time, he is worrying over nothing."

The queen furrowed her brows and looked to her husband, grabbing his chin non too gently "'He is worrying over nothing'? Thranduil, Tauriel is his best friend, he will be devastated if something was too happen to her. So please, do not think their is nothing to worry about."

"Very well. But I still believe there is nothing wrong, she has been away for months before."

"Yes and that time was when Legolas hardly knew of her."

"Estelwen." Thranduil sighed, brushing a hand through his hair.

"You know I am right, my dear, you are just too stubborn sometimes to admit it." The Queen giggled and place a kiss on her husbands cheek before looking over to her child once more "Thranduil, do you know when she will be back?" She was met only by silence so in turn, she left. Leaving her husband alone to keep a close eye on Legolas.

She knew it was best to leave Thranduil to his thoughts as he tried to work out what exactly was happening at the borders and why there hasn't been a message of any kind for so long. She did think it was very strange which only added to worry her further. Estelwen let a small prayer whisper through the air, hoping that the guards and Tauriel were under the safe and watchful eyes of the Valar.

She took one last look over her shoulder before she disappeared into the palace.

The young Prince never saw his parents nor did he sense his mother leave.

Legolas didn't know what to do to be exact. He didn't know how to smile happily, he didn't know who to play with, who to laugh with and enjoy walks in the gardens. Tauriel had been gone for too long and Legolas was beginning to panic over her safety. Something was wrong and nobody but the guards who went with her knew. What if she hurt herself? What if one of those evil monsters hurt her? What if-

NO! His inner thoughts screamed as he didn't want his own voice telling him something so horrid.

Tauriel wouldn't let that happen, she is stronger than anyone in Mirkwood (Besides from Ada), she wouldn't let anything touch her.

But what happens if the monsters did?

THEY CAN'T. SHE WOULDN'T LET THEM!

Legolas let a small cry escape him as his fingers grasped the flowers tightly beneath him in his small hands, small tears escaping his deep sea blue eyes as his thoughts continued to run wild, as they continued to torment him about the dangers that Tauriel might be facing. He knew that he was tired, oh so very tired but his thoughts kept him awake.

These dark thoughts that told him bad things, cold words whispering in his ears about blood and death.

The monsters have gotten your friend.

Thranduil quickly ran over to Legolas when he heard his son scream "No!"

The monsters are hurting her, hurting your friend, small one.

He knelt beside his beloved Greenleaf and pulled him into his embrace, hushing his son as he began to scream 'no' over and over again. "What is wrong, sweet one, tell me what is wrong?" He said, his voice slightly raised in hope Legolas would be able to hear him over his screams.

"Ada, you have to help her. He said the monster's have her, please Ada...Ada, she hurt, he said she was hurt...Ada, Ada..." Legolas continued and Thranduil began to panic a little for his child. Who was 'he'? Who was 'the monster'? Who was 'her'? Could it be Tauriel? It couldn't be? So many questions but no real answer for them.

"Shh, Tinith-las, all will be well, breath slowly for me, alright?" He asked gently, rubbing circles into Legolas' back. As Legolas' cries began to calm, Thranduil pulled out from the hug and lifted his son's chin to meet his red rimmed eyes. "Tell me again, Las. Slowly for me."

Legolas sniffed as he nodded, bringing a hand up to wipe his nose on his sleeve "H-He said that the mo-monster's have Tauriel. I-I was worried and s-sad because Tau-Tauriel hadn't come back and-and I didn't mean to think su-such nasty thing's Ada. I j-just miss her so much and I do-don't want any-anything bad happening to her."

"Tinith-las." Thranduil breathed, pulling his child into a hug again as Legolas' cries began again. "What were these nasty things, my leaf?"

"That she w-was de-d-dead and bl-bood was ev-e-rywhere." Legolas sniffed "Ada, som-something's wrong with me. I-I don't like th-thinking of na-nasty things, not when it's a-about Tau-riel."

Thranduil said nothing more and scooped up his child, beginning to walk back into the safety and warmth palace. He paid no attention to the few of his people that had gathered at the commotion, ignoring the guards as they asked if their Prince was alright.

"I'm s-sorry Ada." Legolas whimpered as he was carried away.

Thranduil stumbled into his room later that evening, hand gripping the fabric of the robe above his heart as he panted heavily. He fell to the floor with a soft thud, one hand braced on the floor to keep himself from falling flat on his face.

Everything hurt.

His head, his heart. For some strange reason the barrier around the palace was beginning to weaken and he had a bad feeling it was something to do with this voice Legolas was now hearing. He had remembered Elrond's words before the Lord left from his palace many years ago.

"A crack."

"Ai, Ilúvatar, do not say it is so." The King croaked, resting his forehead against the cold stone of his chamber. "Do not say he has come for my child. Do not let him be taken from the light so soon."

He moaned when he felt a stab of pain strike his heart. Whatever it was out there wanted in and it wasn't going to give up. It was strong, stronger than anything that has attacked his barrier before. It was almost like it waited for the moment to strike, the moment he let his guard down.

Of course his darling wife knew, being their on the first day the attack began. Legolas had no idea and he was glad that his child didn't, let alone the whole kingdom as well. Today though, it was more powerful. Before it was just a dull ache then suddenly something that would knock the wind out of him but today, it began attacking both his heart and mind at the same time.

Whatever it was, was ready to make itself known and today, tomorrow, or the coming weeks it would strike.

He only wished it wouldn't be who he thought it was.

As Thranduil began to level his breathing, he focused on strengthening the barrier with whatever power he had left or what he could spare. He was getting dizzy and tired, something he himself had not experienced in so long. He stood slowly when he found the pain had lessened and made his way over to his bedroom, opening the door and falling ungracefully onto the bed.

He didn't stay awake long enough to hear the door to his chambers open and a gasp sound from the bedroom door.

Estelwen rushed over to her husband and rolled him over so his face wasn't in the sheets. "Mela-nin." She called "Thranduil." When she received no answer, she shook head and sighed shakily. She brushed the stray strands of his hair out of his face, looking apon the pain that was still etched in his expression even during sleep. "This is beginning to take it's toll on you, sweetest." The Queen bent down and placed a kiss on his brow before making her way to the bathroom, filling a glass with water and making her way back over and placing the glass on the bed side table.

She then began to gently pull her husband onto the bed fully before laying down next to him, a warm blanket now covering the two. She was just about to close her eyes and join her King in sleep when she heard a timid, small knock at the door. She blinked and looked over only to see Legolas stood with his own blanket in hand, tears running down his cheeks. Estelwen smiled sadly at her child before reaching her hand out towards him.

Legolas' lip quivered and with a small cry, he ran to his mother, climbing on the bed and burrowing himself between his two parents, strong and gently arms wrapping around him as he cried silently. "Nan-nana." He sobbed into her neck, his blanket still clutched tightly. "I'm scared Nana"

"I know, Las, me too."

Legolas sniffed and looked up at his mother "Why are you scared, Naneth?"

"I am as scared for Tauriel as you are, sweet one." She kissed Legolas' forehead and wished him a goodnight.

A small whisper escaped her and went unheard by her now sleeping child.

"And for you."

Ai, what was happening to her family?
