Song: My fault, Imagine Dragon.
Ch.19: Changed
Seth's POV
I can't help but go to see them. They've barely moved at all which has me worried; their breathing and facial expressions are the only signs that they're alive. The only things that keeps me alive anymore. Tells me they're up to something. Still, everytime I see them smile, it reminds me of how things were, less than 6 months ago.
Flashback
Cliffdiving.
The best thing ever. It's been about a week after she came back. Neither of us need to breathe all that much any more so we go underwater and she somehow manages to runs into a shark. Then seconds later there is a small amount of blood in the water and when I look I see her perfect lips curved up against the side of the shark's head. If it was anyone else, I would have been disgusted at seeing someone suck blood. But this was her. No matter how she was, it was perfect. The lifeless animal just sank to the bottom, and she smiles at me with the smile, that even sparkles underwater before swiming to the surface. I follow. She's already started climbing back up the steep cliff, and again, I follow her. When we get back to the top and we hear something struggling towards us. We tense up on instinct until we see it's a young deer.
'Look. It's leg's broken,' Jay says quietly with concern. She slowly walks towards the animal and kneals down. It looks scared. 'Calm down... I'm not gonna hurt you. she pauses then thinks out loud. 'how did this happen?' she then slowly and gently puts 2 fingers on the broken leg, the deer just sits there. She closes her eyes and is in deep concentration; before long she opens them. 'Ah. I see. Those mountain lions are the worst... Well. Let's fix you up.' she says, closing her eyes again, her charm glows. When she opens her eyes she takes her fingers away and rubs the animal behind the ears. 'All better.' she stands up as it hops away with a new energy. I smile again at her.
'That was impressive.' I state. She grins, her eyes shine.
'What's impressive is that you can be so happy all the time.' wow.
'I meant how it just automatically trusted you.' I roll my eyes. Then her eyes are serious, and I knew what was coming.
'That's something I could learn from it. I know you guys tell me none of what happened was my fault, but for some reason, deep down, I still feel like it is.' I walk to her and wrap my arms around her.
'Jay, don't think like that, The good outways the bad by a long shot. None of us see it that way.'
'How can you not? You've technically known me longer than all of them. You've seen me kill many creatures, some that resemble humans, and yet, you still loved me. I understand now, but, I wouldn't have imagined even a normal imprint to be that strong, even less than a year ago.' I shake my head.
'How I feel, will never go away, if anything, it'll get stronger. A year ago, I didn't have a clue where or who you were, but the only thing that kept me going, was the fact that you were alive. Do you know what's changed since then?' I ask. She shakes her head.
'No, what?'
'Nothing' I barely whisper but she hears me and smiles again.
Flashback over
Something was licking my fingers. I look to the side and see Jay's puppy, a Collie. I bet everybody forgot she had him, including me.
"Hey buddy." I say to him. He buds his nose against my hand, trying to cheer me up. It barely worked. "Zeta, where's Theta?" I wonder where the other is? Lei has one too, another Collie, ironically they're twins. I have no idea why they're both named after greek letters, and right on que, she comes in that's right, she. "Thanks for trying to help you two." It didn't really. The phone rings, I pick it up before the first ring stops. "Did they wake up?" I ask knowing who this is.
"Do you have to ask?" Jacob's voice says.
"Why are you doing this Jacob?" I state more than ask.
"You need it, trust me." I shake my head.
"I need to be over there!"
"You need to rest, when was the last time you slept?"
"5 months."
"Exactly. If you don't sleep, you'll die too. Do you really want her to wake up as you being another voice in her head? I think she has enough." He has a point. But still.
"Fine. But I still can't sleep this far away." I answer, he sighs and hangs up. I can't sleep. The flashbacks keep coming rather than that.
Flashback
We're at the top of the cliff the day after the contest. The sun is setting and it hit her skin perfectly.
'Here's your charm, Jay," She takes it from my hand and it glows again when she puts it on.
'This is nice,' she breathes out and I just smile for her happiness.
'Yeah. couldn't get much better,' she turns her head to me and gives me her 'do you really want to go there?' smile. 'You know what I mean,' she giggles under her breath. It was almost completely dark.
'Seth. I wanna show you something.' I raise my eyebrow confused.
'What is it?'
'Watch,' I watch her and her charm glows, and she looks up, I follow and my eyes widen. It's a meteor shower! It's pretty too.
'Wow,' I state almost breathless, I've never really payed much attention to them before.
'That's not all.' she pauses. 'Look.' I look back a her and she has a hand out. It's like the stars are actually in her hand.
'There are no words for this,' Is all I say, grinning like an idiot.
Flashback Over
The stars, more like sparkles, since stars are alot bigger. It was one of the most amazing things I ever saw! The flashbacks continue to hit closer to home.
Flashback
One of those easy days. Sitting at home, watching kid movies. Wreck-it-Ralph(Which is awesome anyway.) right at one of the last parts, when he's falling into the volcano. Up into the end. She was then quiet. Too quiet. She was still convincing herself she's not evil.
'Jay?' I say to her. She just leans into my chest.
'How bad can I be.' she whispers. I grin and put my arm around her.
'Remind you of anybody?' she laughs.
Flashback over
Not many days left though. Until they come.
Katie's POV
I feel like I'm a bottomless pit. Falling to my impending doom that may never come, closed in by an endless darkness surrounding me on all sides. So much to worry, not enough time to. I feel like I'm disconnected from my family-Casey and my mom-and have spent too much time with the Cullens. Haven't had the new free start I came back to La Push for. Instead I'm training for pretty much a war that'll last 10 minutes at most, with powers I just learned I had! That's still the least of my worries. My greater attentions are the ones that will distract me when the time comes. A weak human trait, growing attachments. Showing emotions. People that, if killed, will make you feel some sort of pain. A strength and a weakness. Someone to die for, someone you can't live without. It makes me envy those like Jayla. No consience weighing on her no grief. Nothing but her own will making her feel sorry about something. It made me wonder why she did that to herself. Put herself in the pain of guilt, when she didn't have the voice in her head telling her to. She literally forced it on herself. Still. My greatest worry was the hardest to explain, the least to this situation. My best friend. Brady. I don't know where we stand. I don't know if I can trust him like I used to. His record in this town isn't the best. But I've overheard changes, according to others, about him since I showed up. It's almost like he... OMG! That's exactly it, isn't it? It explains everything. But. If I'm wrong... that's it, so I'll wait for him to tell me.
Seth's POV
Then I saw something from Jay's charm, which they told me to take with me. It was less than a minute long.
vision
'It's a shame. Such talent and power could control this world, you chose to run.' Ethan mutters and he's standing right at the edge of her medical bed, and where am I? About to phase but am somehow paralized by something unknown to me at the moment. Then it cuts out right then.
Vision Over
No. He can't win that easily.
