Learning To Hunt

Blurb for a Sequel

A tiny girl with straight, hot pink hair stood on stage in front of the audience that filled the average sized bar. Nervous knots filled her stomach, as she took a deep breath before she started to sing. It was moments like these when she wondered what in the world had ever made her think that she was strong enough to make it on her own without her family.

"Everyday I wake up to another day gone by...nothing but the open road and the neverending why...anything could happen, yeah, but nothing ever does...I try to change, it's kind of strange, same as it ever was...but look at us...how do I deal with you?" she belted out. "How do I deal with me? When I don't even know myself, or what it is you want from me...how do I deal with us? How do I know what's real? When I don't even trust myself or what it is I feel...how do I deal?"

As she continued to sing, she started to relax a bit, and she felt her confidence return. She could do this. She'd been doing it for weeks now. She'd been living life and surviving by her own strength.

Pride sighed loudly as his son, Samuel, started to cry again. Pride slid out of bed and walked over to the crib across the room. Samuel was screaming, standing up in bed. Pride picked him up, holding him close.

Samuel had been waking up like that every night since Liliana had left. Just woke up screaming for no reason at all, as though he knew something wasn't right. Which was probably true. Samuel had been raised solely by Liliana up until a few weeks ago. Her sudden disappearance from his life was reasonably enough to make him more than a little cranky. And he wasn't the only cranky one. Pride hadn't exactly been the most pleasant person since Lili had left. And the poor toddler was just plain confused.

Pride sat down in the nearby rocking chair, still holding Samuel. He rested his cheek on the boy's soft hair, softly soothing his cries with his voice.

"Shh . . . it's alright, little guy. I miss her, too. But Mommy will be back soon, don't worry," Pride said softly. "She loves you very much, more than anything in the world. So do I, Samuel. And we're going to be a real family someday, I promise. Mommy said that she would come back when she felt better, and I trust her. She'll be back. I hope." Samuel's cries had stopped, and his breathing had slowed again. He was fast asleep once more.

Pride stood up slowly, trying not to disturb the sleeping boy, and walked back over to the crib. He placed the child gently in it, covering him up with a blanket. He smoothed back his son's hair, then looked out the window at the full moon.

"I hope she will come back. And soon . . ."

This would have been a prologue for a sequel – with Liliana having run off for a while to find herself, eventually making her way back home when Samuel becomes deathly ill and she realizes she's pregnant again.

Anyway – that's it for this story. I'm sorry for not finishing it – but atleast I have given you some idea of where I planned to go and who was going to end up together. I hope you enjoyed it. Please review and give me your thoughts!
