Note From The Author: I'm sorry todays chapter is so sad again guys. I also tried to handle the subject as best I could. I just wanted to stay slightly canon to Glee so I felt it necessary. Since this chapter was slightly filler, slightly boring maybe? I will have another one up soon. With a little bit of a time jump but nothing major.
It had been around two weeks since Dani had seen Santana, or Rachel, Kurt too. She was definitely avoiding all of them this time. After almost kissing Santana in the loft and then having Kurt and Rachel walk in on it she decided enough was enough. It was time to either get over Santana or actually do something about it. Santana may have denied it when Kurt asked but there was no way she would almost kiss her if she didn't have any feelings at all in the first place, right?
She needed space though. Dani had to get her head around the whole situation and going by Rachel's face that night she would be killed if she stepped foot in the loft again so soon anyway. Lying on her bed on a rather cold Sunday afternoon Dani blew out a breath of absolute boredom. She had decided the week just passed was all about detoxing and taking some of the stress from her life right now. Taking a week from her holiday time to just laze about seemed like the best idea.
An hour had passed and Dani had done nothing but lay there. This wasn't really accomplishing anything. She was the kind of person that couldn't sit around doing nothing. Even a day spent inside would mean some spring-cleaning or taxes or something of substance. Today she just didn't have the energy. Stretching out her legs on the bed Dani slowly sat up. As she did she felt this weird aura around her. She just felt… off. Something wasn't right. Grabbing her phone from the nightstand Dani quickly searched through her contacts for Santana's name. Opening iMessage she tried to think of a nonchalant message for the girl. 'Hey, having a good Sunday?' Hitting send she instantly regretted it. This week was supposed to be loft free, and here she was texting Santana.
The wait for a reply seemed to take forever. Dani sat there staring at the message app on her phone hoping the little notification would pop up sooner rather than later. Eventually her phone buzzed and Dani wasted no time in opening the message. Her face dropped when she read the reply, it wasn't the cheery message she was expecting. 'Santana can't talk right now, try later – Kurt' What? …Why was Kurt replying to Santana's text messages? She hardly lets anyone breathe near her phone never mind actually touching it. Dani's feelings had to be right, something was wrong. What if Santana got in an accident at work and had to go to hospital?! Dani would never know, Rachel wouldn't tell her and Dani knew the first thing she would do was make sure Kurt didn't either.
Launching herself off the mattress Dani bounded towards her wardrobe, grabbing anything she could to throw on. She had to get to the loft.
The cool air hit the back of her throat like a needle as she jogged down the street. Luckily the loft wasn't too far away from her apartment but the cold breeze was making it seem like a mile away. People were looking at her like she was crazy but Dani couldn't care less right now, something could be seriously wrong! Turning at the end of the street Dani headed into the close that lead to Santana's house. Running up the stairs she counted the iron doors until she knew which one to knock on. It took a little getting used too as the doors all looked the same but she eventually found the right one. Taking a moment to breathe, and prepare her self for hearing the worst Dani knocked on the door. It sounded very quiet inside, usually you can hear the TV or someones iPod playing from the entryway but right now it sounded like no one was home. Dani was beginning to get really worried, it seemed like she wasn't going to get an answer. Maybe they were already at the hospital. Getting ready to head back Dani stopped in her tracks when she heard the familiar squeak of the iron door sliding open. She twirled back round internally bracing herself for whatever news she was about to get when she saw the one person she hoped wouldn't answer at the door. "R-Rachel…" She greeted in a breathy voice, the mix of the freezing air and the fact that she ran all the way over meant she was still breathing hard. Rachel's expression didn't change. She looked miserable, her eyes were puffy and her nose red. She didn't reply and instead tried to slide the door closed. Luckily Dani had good reflexes as she lunged forward to catch it. "Hey wait, let me in!" She grunted as Rachel pushed against her to close the sliding door.
"Is that Dani?" A faint voice asked.
"Hello?" Dani called out, trying to get them to hear her before Rachel could shut her out.
"Hold on I'm coming." The voice replied along with some shuffling. Soon enough Kurt was at the door. He looked just as miserable and his face was all puffy too. Was everyone sick or something?
"Are you guys okay? You both look really ill…" Dani admitted looking between Rachel and Kurt. Rachel just scoffed and Kurt's head bowed.
"N-No we're fine…" Kurt spoke in a broken voice. His voice was weak and it cracked all over the place. Now Dani was really worried.
"We have to go now. Hummel would you hurry up and get your shit together!" Santana bellowed. Dani flinched back from the door. Santana sounded distraught, her voice was the angriest it's ever sounded. On the other hand it sounded very desperate, like she was also begging Kurt as well as shouting at him.
Sighing Kurt turned back to mouth something to someone behind the door, who she wasn't sure. Rachel had walked away so it could've been either of the girls. Trying to peak around him Dani quickly pretended she wasn't doing anything when Kurt turned back to face her. She had never seen the boy look so sad before, he was the most upbeat person she knew here. This was all so confusing.
"…Look, Dani. This really isn't the best time, we will see you some other day." Kurt slowly began to close the door but Dani was having none of this.
"No way, what's up with you guys! You're all freaking me out!" Dani whined a little louder than she meant too and as she did she could hear stomping coming from the loft.
"And you know what, Dani? You are really starting to piss me off." Rachel spat. "Do you have no respect for privacy or something?" She hissed, opening the door fully so she could step into the close. "We're all trying to pack so we can fly back to Lima because our friend just died, we don't need you coming in here being all nosy. Now just go!" Rachel looked furious and Dani felt bad. She wasn't to know but maybe she should've left when Kurt told her too… Clenching her jaw Dani ignored Rachel and instead focused on Kurt. He knew Rachel was just emotional and didn't entirely mean what she was saying but he nodded to her when Rachel asked her to leave again.
Sighing Dani's shoulders dropped and her features softened. "I'm sorry, I'll go. I'm sorry for your loss guys…" Taking a step back from Rachel she turned and headed for the door.
Stepping back into the loft Rachel slammed the sliding door shut before kicking the armchair in the living room. Feeling the pain stinging up her entire foot Rachel slowly slouched down and onto the chair. She was just so tired and had all this pent up emotion. She didn't know how to handle it at all. Dipping her head down and bringing her knees up to her chest Rachel quietly wept into her thighs before Kurt ran over to comfort her. Wrapping his arms around her Kurt let his head rest gently on top of Rachel's.
"It's okay, Rachel." He soothed in a quiet whisper. Rubbing his hands up and down her arm Kurt felt a small tear roll down his cheek. He had tried to hold it all in since they heard earlier that day but it was getting tough.
"Guys we are going to be fucking late!" Santana shouted from her room. She wasn't exactly handling it well. Right now she was in denial/I can do this. Inside she was crying but as long as Kurt and Rachel were hear she couldn't let it out. No way. Throwing down a dress she had in her hand Santana stormed into the living area, face red and eyes wide. "If we miss this flight they are all going to kill us so will you two hurry your asses up before I start throwing punches." She shouted again. Standing between the makeshift hallway leading to everyone's separate rooms Santana felt her eyes burning with tears wanting to be let out as she looked at her friends. They were so open and freely crying, she just couldn't. Slowly lifting his head up Kurt didn't respond to Santana's angry words and instead offered his arms out for her to come join them, he knew she wanted to cry too. Santana thought about it. She thought about running to them and never letting go, just letting out all her emotions and setting the anger free but she couldn't. Just as she felt one tear begging to make it's way down her face she snapped and ran to her room screaming. This wasn't going to be the first time this week.
Seeing Santana so cold Rachel just cried even more. Wiping the tears from her face she eventually stood up. Sniffling and whimpering as she attempted to fix her hair and face best she could. "I'm not going." She deadpanned, walking towards her room.
"You're not going? Rachel… you have to go!" Kurt replied. Walking after his friend he tried to reach out and hold Rachel back but she was having none of it.
"I'm not going!" She hissed, pushing Kurt away from her and running to her room.
Left standing there Kurt had no one. No one wanted to help him cry, or hold him… He knew he needed to go back. It would be hard but he had too. "Fine." He thought out loud before going to his own room to start packing.
