How Do You Propose?

Chapter 4

I don't know why I keep trying to ask girls about this proposing nonsense. They'd just tell me how THEY'D want to be proposed to, not how Hinata would. Hinata's the only reasons the proposal is happening! Stupid-GAH!

My whole body is down on the ground, looking like a fallen spread eagle. What'd I even trip on? I look at my feet to see Shikamaru glaring at me! What the hell!

"Watch where you're going," He says.

"You're the one lying on the ground!"

"Do you expect me to sleep standing up."

I get up. Dust myself off. "Get a bed."

I check my pockets to make sure the ring's still there. And what do you know, it's not. Of course it's not.

I drop to my hands and needs and start searching. Damn it, if it wasn't for this narcoleptic genius I would've never lost it! Not only do I need it for size, but it's Hinata's ring! If I lose it, she'll never want to marry me.

"What are you doing?" Shikamaru has the nerve to say.

"None of your business."

I don't have time for this!

"Kage bushin no Jutsu!" Just like that I have a whole army of people search for this thing. Shikamaru just sits up, knowing that his nap is obviously over.

We're all searching. It only could've fallen out in this area! I just had it! What's going on?! After a 30 minute search, I remove them, defeated, and fall to the ground.

"Now will you tell me what you're up to?" I look over at him. I hate his expressionless face sometimes.

"It's Hinata's ring. I lost it." I finally say. "And now she's never gonna marry me…" I slump into the ground. If only it'd let me sink lower.

"This ring?" Shikamaru says, flashing the thing in my face. I snatch it from his hand and throw myself on him!

"Thank you! Thank you!" I say. I stuff the ring in my jacket pocket this time, so I can keep a better eye on it. "How'd you find it?" Shikamaru sighed.

"When you trampled me, the thing fell on my stomach."

"And it took you this long to tell me?!" You little-!

"Well, you didn't tell me what you were looking for so…" I grab him by his collar!

"I can't believe you!" He swats my hands off.

"Shut up Naruto. This is all your fault in the first place. You could've just told me."

I know he's right. He's always right and that makes me mad! I hate this stupid genius. I back off and just chill right next to him. We sit in silence for a bit.

"So… you really are doing it."

"Doing what?"

"Proposing." My face immediately heats up and I start laughing.

"Well, yeah…" I smile. "I love her and I want to move forward."

Shikamaru just smiles at me, "I'm glad to hear that. I'm happy for you Naruto." Just thinking about marrying Hinata makes my grin go from ear to ear. "So, do you know how you're gonna propose?"

My heart just sinks. I guess it showed on my face, because the next thing he said was.

"Having trouble?" I nodded. "Why don't you ask somebody who's done it already?"

I can't believe I didn't think of that earlier! And I know just who to ask! I jolt to my feet and head straight back to town.

"Thanks Shikamaru!" I can feel his eyes giving me an odd look, but I don't care. I'm going straight to Asuma! He knows what's up!
