~I only own my Ocs and the chaos they might end up causing Please Review or tell Pm me with ideas. This story is long overdue for a fixer upper. I am still looking for a beta. If anyone would want to volunteer that would be great! Just leave me a comment or PM me saying so.
This chapter will follow only bits of the movie, I had to modify it to fit the OCs. Warning OC death!A new OC has been added. Here is a little info on the new OC, her name is Macy. She is one of Rose's best friends. She is also BFF's with Ashley. She is a friend and younger cousin to Sami. She has long blonde hair that falls into ringlets and the tips of her hair is purple (that is a story for another time.) She is a little taller than Sami and has no weapons yet. She is extremely over fond of Justin Beaver *gets hit on the head by Macy* sorry (not really) Bieber. No flames unless they are directed towards Bieber, the dragon fire later in this fanfic will be hot enough for me thank you. Now on with the story! ~
Anything in elvish will be in bold
(no one's Pov)
'The dude in the brown clothes and that has bird poo on the side of his face is even more off his rocker than I am' Macy mused to herself. A good fifteen minutes before Bofur had run to get Thorin and Rose, the old man on a sled pulled by brown bunnies showed up. The original reason Bofur had gone to get Rose and Thorin was because something weird had been happening to Sam and Ashley.
Fifteen minutes earlier
Ashley had been helping Oin tend to the various bumps, bruises, and cuts that the dwarves had received while they were fighting the trolls. After the fifth dwarf, Balin, she suddenly collapsed. The company couldn't figure it out until Oin double checked the dwarves that Ashley had tended to. Where before had been nasty to mild cuts and dark blue and purple bruises there was now scars that looked several weeks old and not a bruise to be found. No one knew what to make of it.
After Sami had gotten back to the company and while Ash was still out like a light, Sam went through the stuff she had taken from the troll hoard. She had two bags of gold and one of silver, the amulet which now that she looked at it closer had animals etched around the frame and held a strange black stone in it, and of course Thrain's war hammer. She pocketed the coins and put the war hammer in the holder on her back that used to hold her spare axe. She put the amulet around her neck and went to help the dwarves. After a little bit she started to glow, first her hair then her skin and finally her clothes. After the light had faded where Sami had stood just moments before was now a huge black dire wolf with a silver swirls down the spine in the same shape as the decals on the amulet. Most of the dwarves jumped and almost crapped their pants, and poor Bilbo fainted after mumbling a bunch of gibberish. The wolf gave them a 'what the hell?' kind of look.
Macy looked at her cousin and just burst out laughing. Sam growled at her for a moment then stopped. 'Did I just growl?' Sami thought to herself startled. She raced to find the nearest reflective surface she could. Not finding one she tried to speak and it came out as a series of barks and yips. Growling again this time to herself, looked at the dwarves expectantly. Dwalin was the first to recover his wits and ran into the troll cave to find something to use as a mirror. He came back with a huge shield that was almost as tall as Balin. Holding it so that Sami could see her reflection, the burly dwarf waited for the she-wolf's reaction.
For several long minutes Sami just stared at the shield, her eyes showing first surprise then amazement and finally delight and something that the tattooed dwarf didn't recognize. While this was happening Gandalf and told Bofur to go get Thorin and Rose, hoping that the girl would have some clue as to what they needed to do.
Thorin and Rose arrived in the clearing after Bofur and had just enough time to take in the sight of the giant she-wolf, and Ashley lying unconscious on the grass. Rose sighed "What did they do this time?" referring to Ashley and the dire wolf, whom she guessed was somehow Sami. Before anyone could answer her, they heard a noise coming from the trees and then the words, "Thieves! Fire! Murder!"
A rush of brown clothing on a sled pulled by brown rabbits flew out of the woods and stopped in the midst of the company, almost running over poor Ashley. It was a funny looking old man with brown robes, a brown hat and bird droppings on the right side of his face.
"Radagast! Radagast the brown," Gandalf greeted his fellow wizard before asking, "What on earth are you doing here?"
"I was looking for you Gandalf! Something's wrong! Something's terribly wrong!" He nearly shouted as his arms flailed about widely.
"Yes...?" Gandalf asked, not completely sure where the other wizard was going with the situation. It had been years that he had last seen Radagast yet he appeared unchanged as every wizard did. The peculiar man went to say something and opened his mouth but he stopped, almost as if he had forgotten something. He did this twice more. "Just give me a minute! Oh! I had the thought and I've lost it! It was right there on the tip of my tongue! Oh!" He then opened his mouth and pointed at the pink muscle. "It's not a thought at all! It's a little old stick insect!" Gandalf pulled the bug out of the strange wizard's mouth before dropping it into his waiting palm. This made the man grin with glee as he looked at the tiny bug.
Many of the dwarves looked disgusted as did Macy. Macy asked, "Do you have bird poo in your hair because you are a bug dispenser?"
The wolf let out a series of coughing barks that could be distinguished as laughter. The brown wizard chuckled and said, "No my dear I am not, as you put it, a bug dispenser. And You Samantha Oalfson should not be laughing right now. You still have no idea how to return to human form. It is pure irony that the animal whisperer should be currently stuck as an animal herself. You found the necklace that I gave to the skin changers many many years ago. When you figure it out, you will be able to change into any natural creatures, extinct or no, from your world. Yes I know that you are not from Arda, I felt a shift in the air when you and your friends entered our world. You, Macy Oalfson have control over plants and, once you figure out how to do it, can see sound waves-"
"Is that why a bunch of squiggly lines coming out of everybody's mouths?" Macy interrupted once again earning herself a bunch of weird looks
After the exchange between Radagast and the girls, he and Gandalf went to talk. Rose examined Ashley for the reason the younger girl might have fainted. When she was unsuccessful in finding a reason Rose asked the dwarves what Ashley had been doing before she fainted. After listened to Oin and some of the other dwarves about how those who Ashley had treated no longer had wounds slight or otherwise from the troll fight. Thorin and Sam, still in wolf form, came up to Rose.
"Is she alright?" Thorin asked quietly
"Other than the fact I can't figure out why she fainted yes." Rose replied shortly, concerned for the younger woman who she viewed as a little sister.
A howl split the air. "Was that a wolf?" Bilbo asked coming back to consciousness. "Wolves, no. That is not a wolf" Hearing something growl behind them the dwarves turn, to face the warg. It charges down at the company, and pounces on one of the dwarves before being brought down by a mighty stroke from Thorin. Another warg charges from the opposite direction. "Kili" Thorin bellows at his youngest nephew. Kili shoots and hits it in the shoulder causing it to tumble and roll back onto its paws snapping at Thorin. Dwalin kills it by splitting its head with one of his axes. When Thorin manages to finally dislodge his blade from the other warg he says, "Warg scouts. Which means an orc pack is not far behind."
"Orc pack?" Bilbo questions
Gandalf questions Thorin, "Who did you tell about this quest beyond your kin?"
"No one." Thorin answers
"WHO DID YOU TELL?" Gandalf yells at the dwarf
"No one I swear. What in Durin's name is going on?" Thorin yells back
"You are being hunted." Gandalf says grimly
"We have to get out of here." Dwalin grunts
"We can't, we have no ponies. They bolted." Ori says
"I'll draw them off." Radagast volunteers
"These are Gundabad wargs. They will out run you!" Gandalf puts in further trying to dissuade his fellow Istari
"These are Rhosgobel rabbits. I'd like to see them try." Radagast says determinedly
Radagast runs over to the bunny sled and hops on. The rabbits run at full speed and the company can hear the as the pack follows the wizard. "Let's go, we have to get moving." Gandalf says.
"Wait! What about Ash?" Rose says
At that everyone looks from the unconscious girl to the giant wolf and then back at Rose. After exchanging a look with Balin, Dwalin grabs some of the rope that Bifur had decided to keep as a souvenir from the trolls and approaches Sami cautiously. Giving the burly dwarf a look like "Touch me with that and I will kill you" and a growl Sami slowly backed up until she bumped into Bombur. "Dwalin. Give me the rope." Rose says taking it from him, "Go get Ashley and bring her over here." Dwalin grumbles but does as asked relived that he wasn't the one Sami was going to hurt.
"Sam, we have to get out of here. Please we can't carry her and run fast enough. It will only be for a little while... I promise to ask Elrond how to help you change back." Then she whispers in the she-wolf's ear, "And I will let you scare the shit out of Bilbo."
Finally the wolf nodded her head and allowed Dwalin to place Ashley on her back. As he was backing away Sam snapped at his heels. He cursed in surprise. Rose wrapped the rope three times around the Wolf and her passenger. Fearing that any knots she tied wouldn't be tight enough Rose asked Fili and Kili to tie the knots for her.
"Thank you Sami." Rose said out aloud for all to hear before once more leaning close and whispering in Sami's ear, "Take her to Rivendell, You know the way from all those countless times we spent pouring over maps of this area before we were torn from our world."
The she-wolf growled an affirmative and sprung away.
"Rose come on, she knows what to do."
(Sami's POV)
'They are soooooo dead when I figure out how to shift back! I am NOT a fricking mule to haul things or people! The soon I get to Rivendell the sooner I can get Ashley off my back. Oh shit! How do I communicate with the elves when I get there? Curse you Rose! I am going to have your guts for garters!' I think as I lope towards Rivendell. I know the way from the maps and recognize the area. It seems like only moments from the time I leave the company till the time I reach the hill that overlooks the last homely house before the sea. The movies don't and can't do it justice.
I make my way down the slope at a swift pace while still being careful. I cross over a narrow bridge and when I step paw off the bridge on to the area in front of the stairs, I feel a strange tickling sensation running through my canine body. I feel my tail shrink and disappear. My fur recedes to my head and forms back into my normal hair. My body shrinks back to human size and my hands and feet return to normal. The rope tying Ashley to me falls off and Ashley slumps to the ground. When the change stops I grab my axe and use it like a mirror. Everything about my body is back to normal except my eyes. They have turned amber and are flecked with my normal dark brown eye color. The fleck appears to be in the shape of tiny animal tracks.
I put my axe back in its holder. I will have to think of names for my weapons, but at a later time. An elf walks out of the building to greet me,
"Welcome to Rivendell. I am Lindir."
"Speak westron, I don't understand elvish Lindir. Yes I know who you are. Bring me to Lord Elrond I must speak with him." I say rudely ignoring his flabbergasted look of confusion and annoyance. I couldn't care less about elvish customs or the elvish languages of Sindarin and Queya. Rose is the one that speaks all of that nonsense.
Although he looks slightly affronted he says, "Follow me."
I pick Ashley up and run up the stairs in to the building after the elf.
When we got to lord Elrond's study Lindir told me to wait outside the door until called for
"Fuck that!" I say bulldozing past the lean elf and into the study. Never in a million years did I expect to find Alex Gregor there in conference with the elf lord.
"Sam! What happened to Ashley?"
"Later! Right now Rose and Macy need help."
"What have you four gotten into this time?"
"Again that will have to wait until later right now we need the elves help." I say turning from Alex towards Elrond
"You shall have it then we will speak later. Lindir can take your injured friend to the healers. I am sure that lady Alexandra will stay with her."
Alex and Lindir take Ashley and after a quick "See ya later" I am out of the room following after Lord Elrond.
We reach the stables and as Elrond is mounting his horse I tell him about the transformation into a wolf and then back to human form. He takes a look at the amulet and his eyes go wide. He says to go to the bridge and think of an animal that can fly. I do as he says and the moment I step foot on the bridge I begin to glow once more. This time instead of fur and paws, massive wings covered in black feathers with sliver tips replace my arms and my feet become the talons of a giant eagle.
I let out an eagles cry and launch myself in to the air. How to fly comes to me as easily as running with four legs did. It is easy as pie. I let out another screech and fly in a circle around the amazed elves below. Seeing that all have mounted their steeds I fly towards the area of the secret entrance.
