A/N: Here it is! We've finally reached the last chapter. I can't believe it. The end of my first story. I also can't believe it took so long. I actually finished it 2 days ago but I didn't have internet, not even on my phone so I had literally no way to put it up. Anyway, here's the last instalment, and it didn't take too long to arrive either as promised. So, here's the last chapter, I hope you enjoy it and let me know what you think.
Disclaimer: I don't own Pitch Perfect or the characters etc...
So on with the last chapter...
Chapter 35
The response to this announcement was silence, then about 2 minutes later and uproar. The current Bellas and Trebles were firm in their decision, and the oldest group thought it about time the war ended. The rest however protested the most. While they had no say in whatever decision was made they didn't like the idea that things would change from how they were at present. In the end Beca shouted up, calling silence.
"You know if they end the war then you never have to see each other again right?!" She shouted. This revelation was followed with more celebration than protest as the groups made their way out of the house, leaving only the current groups and Beca, Jesse waiting for her by the door.
"Thanks for telling us the whole story Beca," one of the girls said. "Just so you know we have decided on some rules to make sure this never happens again."
"The leaders of both groups can't date each other, the rest are free to date who they like," A Treble continued.
"And we're gonna make sure everyone knows about the war and how it started when they join so they'll understand why the rule is so important." Another Bella added. Beca nodded in understanding and approval, feeling some relief that they had taken precautions to unsure this wouldn't happen again.
"Good," Beca felt the need to say something. "I should go pack now so…" She trailed off then waved as she turned away and headed for the door.
"Sorted?" asked Jesse.
"Almost, they're gonna make sure this doesn't happen again." She explained, "Now I just have Carly to talk to, then us…" She trailed off again, a little nervous of the subject.
"When do you have to go home?"
"I have another week."
"Well… I guess we have time then."
"Yeah," Beca smiled as she looked up at him, "I guess we do." They parted as they both had to pack in their own houses on the agreement that they'd meet up that night as Jesse didn't have to rush home as many did.
Beca made a beeline for Carly's room when she entered the Bella house. She didn't exactly want to talk to Carly but she knew she had to get the closure if she wanted to really move on, with Jesse and everyone else, if she wanted to stop running from her past. She found Carly's room and knocked loudly on the door. Carly opened it, a smirk on her face as though she knew Beca would be coming to see her and Beca wanted nothing more than to punch her in said face.
"I thought I might see you, come in." Carly opened the door for Beca to enter. She walked past Carly, teeth gritted. "Please, sit." Carly gestured to the bed and Beca sat. "So what, you want to yell at me for breaking you and your boyfriend up? Cause you did that yourself, you could have just believed him." She immediately went on the defensive. Beca took a deep breath.
"I want to know why." Beca spoke as calmly and evenly as she could.
"Wow, I can't say I was expecting that. I'm surprised you never asked before though."
"Well," Beca couldn't help the annoyed tone in her voice, "I'm asking now."
"Why What?" Beca took another deep breath, trying to keep at least outwardly calm.
"Why did you go after Jesse, why did you let me, or even lead me to, believe he cheated?" This time Carly took a deep breath.
"The first question, I just wanted him. It's as simple as that. As for coming out his bedroom, I did leave someone in there, it just wasn't Jesse, it was another Treble. We were sort of keeping our relationship a secret as he hadn't broken up with his girlfriend yet. When I realised you were outside I couldn't resist."
"I thought you said you wanted Jesse, if you had someone else…"
"Why did I still do it? Simple, I realised I'd never get him as long as you were in the picture, short of you dying he was never going to really be with anyone else, so I got with someone else. The guy didn't live in the Treble house and he had a roommate so we borrowed Jesse's room. And his girlfriend could have dropped by his room. Why I made you think it was Jesse in there? If I couldn't have him, neither could you. Besides, you were always shoving your relationship in everyone's face, you had everything. So I took something for you. I was only ever going to Barden for that year, it was kind of an exchange programme, so at the end of finals I left, it didn't matter what I did here because I wouldn't be here for the fallout. Selfish maybe, but I had my fun. You got your happy ending anyway."
"So you just decided to mess with my life, just because you could?!" Beca was incredulous.
"Yeah, I didn't really think it would have consequences that lasted this long but I can't say it hasn't been fun. I know you probably want a sorry but you've come to the wrong place for that. I can give you an explanation but I don't regret a thing." She said the last part slowly, annunciating each word. Beca stood up.
"Well, I guess I got what I came for then." She opened the door and left the room before Carly could get another word out. As she reached the foyer she was met with the original group of Bellas she joined.
"So, what'd you say we go get some lunch?" Fat Amy asked as she approached.
"Sounds good." Aubrey agreed.
"You coming Beca?" Chloe turned to Beca.
"Well, I was just gonna-"
"You have to come, it's the last day we'll all be here, some of us have a flight home tonight." Added Stacey.
"Alright," Beca sighed, relenting.
As much as Beca hadn't wanted to go to lunch, or see anyone, after her talk with Carly she was glad she went. They had talked and laughed just like they used to and Beca had been able to make amends, and share what had happened with Carly, the talking had helped. She had gotten used to keeping it all in again, mainly because she just didn't have anyone to tell in L.A., rather than before when she didn't want to. She had also agreed to keep in touch and they were all going to meet up and visit her in L.A. at some point in the not too distant future too. Beca couldn't help but feel excited at the thought and relived that she was actually on the way to repairing her friendships.
At about 5pm Beca got a knock on her door, she had finished packing but had yet to move to the hotel she had booked for the rest of her stay. She opened in to find Jesse, bag in hand.
"So you're all ready?" She asked as he stepped inside and put his bag down.
"Yeah, I don't leave till the end of the weekend though." Beca nodded.
"I guess we need to talk then."
"I guess we do." They both sat on her bed and stared at the wall for a few moments. "I've just got you back, I don't want this to be the end."
"Me neither, I've spent 7 years missing you and realise what a mistake I made, I can't just go back and never see you again now." Beca agreed.
"But we both live and work in different states…" Jesse reminded her.
"Yeah." Beca sighed unsure how to get round that fact. Truthfully she knew that she couldn't move, not job wise. She was well on her way to getting her dream job and she wouldn't have this opportunity again, and she wouldn't get it anywhere else either. She wasn't sure about Jesse, they'd been so busy sorting out the past that they'd barely discussed the future, or present.
"I know you can't leave L.A. You're where you always wanted to be."
"I can't ask you to move," She countered, "but I don't know how we can really work when we live in different states. We've already wasted so many years."
"You may not have to. You know I've always wanted to score movies, maybe L.A. would give me the opportunity to try and follow my dreams too." He suggested. She looked at him, hope hidden behind denial that he could move for her, "It wouldn't be over night but I think it's time I try."
"Wait, what?" She was now confused.
"I knew I'd probably have to move to L.A. if I wanted to follow that path but I've been putting it off, I knew that no one really makes it in that world unless they're really lucky, and I was also afraid I'd see you… Which is stupid because L.A. should be big enough but part of me was also afraid I wouldn't see you." He explained. "I'd need somewhere to stay…"
"We could get an apartment?" She suggested timidly, "I really should get a new one. I mean, it's not like I can't afford one… I've just been putting it off as I'm rarely in it. It's the same apartment I've had since I moved there. I hate it." She quickly added.
"We could," He nodded, smiling and looking at her. He placed a gentle chaste kiss on her lips. "I do love you, you know Beca, I may not be able to say it much anymore, but I do." He told her softly. She felt her heart burst.
"I love you too." She replied simply, afraid to say anymore. She said silent looking at him for a moment before she spoke again. "Remember when I told you I had this dream, that I wasn't ready to tell you?" He nodded, "Well I am now."
"Okay," Jesse confirmed he was ready to listen, somewhat unsurely.
"It's kind of perfect really. The life we should have had."
"We?" Jesse interrupted. Beca gave him a look and her nodded for her to continue.
"I wake up, in bed, next to you. We're married. We both have our dream jobs. We live in this big beautiful house in L.A., just outside the city, in some suburb. We have two gorgeous kids, and both our parents spoil them rotten. And we are happy, just so happy. Then I wake up, and for a few minutes I have to get over the fact that that's not real. And I have to make peace with that." She told him, looking at the wall and refusing to look at him. He moved his hand to hold her chin gently and turn her to look at him.
"You were right, it is perfect." She smiled and laid her head on his chest.
"I have a hotel room booked, wanna stay with me?"
"Sounds good." He mumbled as he kissed her head.
It was Sunday night and Beca was getting ready for dinner out, she had invited Jesse to dinner with her dad as he had to leave the next morning. Part of her wished she could just keep him to herself but her dad wanted to see her before she left and she knew it was important for her to bring Jesse to this dinner, to show them both that she wasn't going to shut them out her life again, that she was going to be open with them. She had cancelled her reservation for the rest of the week. She would be staying in the hotel with Jesse tonight then at her dad's Monday night before she followed Jesse to his hometown, and the place he lived and worked, while they sorted some stuff out at him end. Then she would go home to L.A. and once everything was sorted he would join her there. Her life, it seemed, was finally going right in all aspects. He came up behind her as she checked over her appearance in the mirror.
"You look beautiful." He assured her. "It's just your dad."
"Yeah, but this is the first time he meets you properly…" She reminded him nervously.
"It'll be fine." He insisted.
As Beca walked into the restaurant she couldn't hide her nerves. She spotted her dad and made a beeline for his table, thankful it was just him and he hadn't bought Sheila with him.
"Hi dad," she started as he stood and hugged her. "This is Jesse." She introduced him as Jesse shook her dad's hand. They all took their seats. "To another new start." Beca toasted as she lifted her waiting glass of wine.
Okay, so that's it! We've reached the end. Now I was considering doing a collection of one shots for past and future in this 'universe' so let me know if you think I should, though it probably won't be a regular update thing, more like I write it when I get an idea. So let me know what you think and whether I should. I hope you enjoyed it. There won't be an epilogue for any one that was wondering, I kind of like it where it is for the end. So I guess I won't see you in the next chapter, so let me know what you thought of the last chapter, and I hope you enjoyed the story. And thank you to any guest reviewers as I won't necessarily be able to respond to your review of this chapter, unless i do the oneshot thing, so thank you all my readers and maybe see you in another story. (*smiles*)
