In terms of timing for the followers who want to know, this fanfic takes place in exchange of the final arc, and will mostly coincide and have somethings from the final arc like the battle with Galaxia but will not mention the Cauldron.
This fan fiction is dwindling down to its last few chapters. A new POV will be Ataxia. YAY! I hope everyone enjoys.
Seiya
Black soot fell from the sky and melted like black snow on the pavement. Seiya was running. He could hear the blood pumping wildly in his ears. Behind him, the scouts were racing forward in search of Serena and Rini, as the group approached what was left of the Ferris wheel. Where the once colorful, proud structure stood, laid a massive circle flat on the ground. A black haired girl was running toward them.
"HELP! Please help her!" As Seiya got closer he realized the girl was Rini. The black raindrops had tainted her hair drowning it in darkness. He did not need to ponder on whom she was talking about. Seiya's speed only increased.
He was going to save Serena. Sure she was competent enough to beat the bad guys but she needed someone to depend on. Even though her friends had reestablished their oaths, the trust was stick broken in their friendships. There was a hesitance to disobey Serena now. And without questions that would explore possibilities Serena would never been fully prepared for a battle. There was no way he would let Serena go. Crystal Tokyo was gone. But that didn't mean there couldn't be a new future.
He made a full stop no more than five feet from the wheel. Standing one side was Rei. He could only see her back. Her raven hair was tangled whipping through the thin blades of wind. Her white dress blended in to her pale skin. Facing her, much farther away from the wheel than he, was the youkai army with Ataxia in the front.
Seiya could hear a tiny whisper, "Rei… please. Please!"
Rei
"SERENA!" Seiya was standing behind Rei. Serena was pinned to the ground; face up, under the wheel. Her hair miraculously remained golden, fray out like a fan around her head. Unable to get free, Serena looked up hopelessly at Rei.
"Please… I am not asking you to spare my life. Whatever the reason why you are doing this… I know it is because you have been terribly wrong. I just- I just want to know why? WHY, REI, WHY?!"
"Rei just stop." The woman spun around her hand striking Seiya across the face sending him to the ground.
She was about to approach him with a knee to the stomach when a shout resounded through the air, "Do not pay attention to the man! Kill Cosmos."
Rei was so confused! She did not want to do this. She wanted to hurt Serena, but this… this was too much. She had already failed to seek revenge, now she wanted out. But Darien, he was stuck with the youkai. Only Rei could save him. Only she knows how to protect him. But the cost of saving her love would come with a great price.
Ataxia
She knew what Rei was doing. She was trying to protect Darien her love. But Rei's efforts were futile. That is why the women could never be leader. A leader has to be selfless, making decisions for the greater good. Rei was faced with two options, save Darien or save the scouts. Furthermore a leader has to be decisive. And now it was Ataxia's turn to sway Rei's indecision between her friends and her love.
"Stop! Stop it!" Ataxia started sending waves toward Rei. Each wave pierced her brain like sharp needles. Images poured into her mind, Ataxia's memories. "Please stop!" Rei's screeches started to reach new octaves.
Flashback
Kessem looked both ways. Nothing was there. She knocked on the door. Slowly the door creaked open and she was greeted with darkness. "I received your letter shortly after he died. "
"No need to bring up unnecessary matters." Smile, you need to act normal.
"But isn't that why you are here?" Kessem walked in to the room. As soon as the light from the hallway was shut out once again, a gentle silver glow started to rise from the center of the room.
"Tukiko, I want you to reveal what is in this room."
"Why have you chosen now? You live here and could have entered this room at any time."
"I have. I know what is in this room. I want to know how they got there."
" If you must. Then so be it. Since I am the one at risk for doing this, you must listen and obey every order."
End
Serena
Whatever Ataxia was doing she had finished. Rei turned around. Rei stood over Serena once more. When the woman opened her eyes, one was revealed to be black, just like Ataxia's.
"I'm sorry Serena. Darien… I just don't know what to do anymore. This is so painful. I'm tired, like really tired. I've tired to resist it, I really did. But I can't any longer. Can I sleep now? Is that okay?"
Serena knew what was going on. Rei didn't want to be cause for suffering, so she decided to let Ataxia take over. The apology was sign of forgiveness and reconciliation. Those were words never to be forgotten. I'm Sorry. Rei was gone. There would be no way for her to come back, not unless Ataxia died. There would be no healing, and no purifying this time. Only death…
I'm sorry.
Ataxia
Flashback
Tukiko, the child of the moon, was a legendary woman. She was a consultant, an advisor, to the rulers of the Sun. And she was the one to hide the royal family's secrets.
" Now is the time you start being attentive." Her grey hair sparkled and her eyes lacked pupils. They were the simple white orbs of a prophet. A white, grey moon insignia graced her forehead. "Grab my hands."
Kessem grabbed the woman's hands, not quite ready for what was to come. Immediately light illuminated the room and its contents were revealed. Corpses incased in stone bodies littered the room. It was not hard to figure out whom those bodies belonged to, the Sun's royal family. Each member was immortal… to a fault. The Immortals, as they were called had to pick one weakness, an Achilles heel. This weakness would be the only thing binding the Immortal to the land.
Tukiko would show Kessem, how to become Immortal and what her parents' weaknesses are. Tukiko like all other descendants of the moon was given the powers of the other Crystal princesses. Each Lunar Ruler gained the namesake just like Kessem gained her Immortality. Pluto, the most valuable of all the planets was what she had to call forth.
Kessem placed her hand in the woman's palm and closed her eyes.
End
Seiya
"SERENA!" Rei had a sword in her hand. Wildly and somehow aimlessly, she started slamming it down toward Serena. It was wonder how horrible her aim was for someone, who was adept in archery.
"Star Serious Laser!" Rei fell to the ground. Almost trance like she got back up. "Stop Rei. You said you have had enough? Then stop fighting us! We can help you!"
Rei did not bat an eye before resuming with her attack. And then a light flashed before her eyes. One was black and the other was slowly smoking and disappearing into the darkness.
Ataxia
The blindness would stun Rei at first but with her skill and coordination she was bound to overcome it. Just like she overcame her parents, and surely as she had overcome her weakness. Unlike her parents, she did not choose something easy to defeat. Both had stuffed their immortality into their cats: Gemini, and Leo. Both animals also happened to love Kessem.
After finding that out, it wasn't long before the two cats took their last bites, much like their masters.
Flashback
The King and Queen both laid sprawled on the floor wide eyed, and cold. It was foolish to allow their lives to be dependent on cats, two live, moving beings. You could never fully control where they were, who they were with. And so the King and Queen did not have a single idea what was happening with their bodies started to reject themselves.
End.
Ataxia could still remember the last words on the lips of her father, "We have failed you, I'm sorry. I wish you were never born." How many times did she imagine the intent of those words? She wished, hoped, banked on the apology for her lover's death. But instead she received an apology for life being given to her, for her very creation."
There was a prophecy so old no one knew the exact words. But the message was clear. Ataxia was doomed to end the Sun's reign; she was doomed to split the power of the moon, and all for happiness. No one had imagined she would actually do it. She was princess, was happy as could be when she was a child. And yet her parent's tried to keep it that way through an arranged marriage to a man who would nullify her powers. Well that plan backfired.
It was one thing when the people of the sun slowly started dying off when the rulers died. But it was another thing when Tukiko died. Tukiko was the physical being of moon, a planet infamous for its wholeness. But when Ataxia let go of the seer's hand. She saw an opportunity to take happiness from this woman. She could see her happiest memories, her peaceful days. And so Ataxia tugged, with her whole being she tugged on the woman's spirit.
It had taken all of Tukiko's strength to keep her intact. But in the end the strain against her two sides of morale had split her into two separate people. It had given birth to the dark side of the moon, which would later be ruled by none other than Queen Nehellenia.
Perhaps that was why taking happiness was not working. She had caused so much despair and misery that she no longer deserved it. This seed of doubt was growing inside of her corrupting her mind beyond repair. But she needed to reach her goal. There was one thing she wanted. And she would get it no matter what. She just needed to take as much joy as possible. It would work because it had to work.
Serena
She could see from the corners of her eyes the rest of the scouts had gathered around the wheel. Seiya was tried his best to stop Rei but the youkai and proceeded to subdue Serena's lover and her friends. It was starting to seem like a losing fight.
Tears started to cascade down Serena's cheeks. If this battle was lost then she would have to sacrifice herself. The thought of dying without resolving issues with her friends and before living a happy life with Seiya terrified her. But just as her scouts had sworn an oath to her, she had sworn an oath galaxy to be selfless and to do whatever she could to prevent the whole system from drowning into darkness.
Serena closed her tear filled eyes.
Rei
She was trying her best to keep up hope to prevent her from hurting Serena. But each time her blade pierced the ground by the blonde's face a vicious exhilaration enveloped Rei. It was addictive and persuasive. It has come to the point of no return. She was for once truly lost. It was take a miracle to find her.
I apologize for such a short chapter. This one has been my shortest ever. The reason is because this chapter was supposed to be totally dedicated to Rei and the last of Ataxia's memories. Following chapters will delve more into Ataxia's emotions and will hopefully be longer. I feel as if I'm losing the angst and emotion in the characters, is this hypothesis right? Please review and tell me what you all think.
