CHAPTER 18 - Cullen's, Meet the Cullen's
•~Annabelle Cullen~•
Everyone was darting their eyes between Daddy and me. I broke the silence first and walked up to the female, introducing myself.
"Hello, I'm Annabelle – but please, call me Annie," I said in a light tone.
"I'm Esmé," she smiled. "And this is my husband, Carlisle–" I gulped. "Thank you for inviting us to your home. I must say, it's lovely – just looking in from out here, I admire the balance between 21st Century furnishings, Medieval decoration contributes and good use of colour." She was gawking openly at the house.
I laughed. "Thanks – that means a lot. It was Yvon and I who designed the house, actually." I noticed a small reaction to the mentioning of Yvon's name...wait! She couldn't be the Esmé, could she?
Turning to everyone else – my family were already inside waiting for us. "I'd like you to be aware in advance that you do not judge our newest member to my family, please," I said as I lead them to the front door. "He does have superb self-control for his age; it has just been a long day, so he's mentally tired."
"Who is he?" Jasper – mister solider here – asked curiously.
"Javonn," I replied, carrying a casual tone.
"Who mean to say that, the vampire who was in school with everyone today is the newborn?" he asked cautiously. "Just how old is he?"
"About a year," I answered. "He skipped right over the blood lusting stage, completely."
"Is that even wise to be keeping a newborn here so close to town, regardless, let alone let him walk around a public building?" Jasper asked.
His military ego is really annoying sometimes! But I kept calm, silently counting down the time until I get to see his expression when he finds out that he wouldn't be here alive today without my help.
"I know my family, they will not harm anyone. A little trust would be nice," I told him. Emmett chuckled.
We walked into the house, which everyone appeared to be amazed by, towards the family room when Yvon entered at the same moment.
"Es-Esmé?" Yvon chocked out in shock from the other side of the room. I knew it!
Esmé's head jolted in the direction of Yvon's voice and she froze. Yvon suddenly changed her silver hair back to her naturally brown colour. Jasper felt the connection between them both, alongside everyone's confusion from his family – even Daddy was confused. Edward looked shocked from, probably, reading Esmé's thoughts.
Esmé bolted out of her husband's grasp and into her younger sister's across the room.
"How did this happen?" Esmé shrieked.
"Uh...Annie – she...well, uh...saved me." Yvon's response clearly reflected her sudden nerves.
"Why did you need saving, Yvon?" she asked; her tone dangerously low for her usual joyful character.
"Listen here, you have no right to think that you can lecture me about that," Yvon hissed. "What the hell were you thinking?" she all but screamed at Esmé.
"By trying to kill myself," Esmé sighed, looking down.
"Luckily, Arla and Niklas were out hunting at the time, saw her, and went straight to Annie for help. I'd rather not imagine my life without my little Yonny," Javonn said.
"That's Javonn," Yvon introduced, not casting her eyes over to us. "He's my mate."
Eventually, Esmé and Yvon released each other. Yvon poked her head around her sister's figure to see all of Esmé's family staring in confusion and shock. Of course, though, all of my family were smiling on happily – knowing exactly who Esmé was.
"Just in case Esmé never told you guys about me, I'm her little sister, Yvonica Platt. Though, I prefer Yvon," Yvon told them. "I have no idea what mother was thinking when she decided on 'Yvonica'"
Esmé chuckled at that, as did I.
They were all still in shock, especially Daddy.
"So, it seems I have a long lost sister-in-law." Daddy said to no one in particular. 'And a daughter,' I added mentally.
"So Annie, how did everyone come to be in your family?" Alice asked, changing the subject.
I smiled and gestured for everyone to take a seat. "The first to join my family were Arla and Niklas in Norway, 1807," I began, nodding towards the twins. "I knew them for since they were babies, though, since I was best friends with their mother and I delivered them for her – I was a midwife back then. They were dying from the plague outbreak at the time when I changed them." I smiled sadly, remembering Katerina. "Next was Yvonica in Massachusetts, 1890. I saved her from being attacked by a bear," Esmé gasped. "This was after she was left stranded on a cliff ledge – she was dying from severe internal bleeding and had multiple broken bones." Esmé was now sobbing, while Daddy and Yvon were trying to comfort her. In the end, Javonn helped her out. Jasper felt the sudden change and was glancing around curiously – as was Edward, probably hearing his brother's thoughts.
"Brendon and Ivor were next to join us," I said, pointing at them. "It was in Ireland, 1910. I found them in a hidden cave on the coast. All I know is that they were both bitten by an Irish nomad." I explained. "Adalynn joined us relatively soon afterwards. This was in Oregon, 1927, after...erm...after Ivor accidently slipped up as Adalynn turned out to be his singer." I managed to say, without it sounding too bad.
"How did he manage to even stop?" Emmett asked, shocked. My guess is that he had already met his singer, but could not stop.
"He managed to realise how angry and disappointed we would all be if she died, so he stopped and ran straight back home and asked me for help." I said, the pride creeping into my voice.
"Anyway, Javonn was the last to join my family, also in Oregon, but only about a year ago. His change is unknown to us, but we came across him in the subway tunnels under the city." I finished solemnly, the memories of Eysha coming back to me.
Javonn could not stay in the room any longer and stood up abruptly, apologising quietly as he fled the room, his eyes glazed over. Yvon apologised too as she got up and ran after her mate.
"Sorry, everyone; the last year has been pretty hard for him." I said sadly. "Could you go check on them please, Arla." I asked, worried for Javonn.
"Of course," she replied, quietly. Deciding against using her gift for now, she rushed after them, following them through the back door.
Daddy's family were all throwing us cautious looks, but no one responded to any of them. Everyone sat in silence until Arla returned.
"He said that he'll be okay and will be back in soon. He also gives you permission to explain to everyone what happened," Arla told me gloomily.
"Is he sure?" I asked. She just nods her head before taking her place back next to Brendon.
I took a moment to think of the best way to tell them. "At the same time as Javonn, his...little sister, Eysha, was changed with him," I began. "When we arrived, we noticed something not quite right with her. It wasn't long before we realised that she had not survived the change – she was gone. Javonn didn't even realise himself that she had died." I told them as calmly as I could.
"I'm sorry," Daddy said sympathetically.
Smiling sadly, "Yes, it is. But, it's the past and we can't change it, unfortunately." I told him.
"Yes, I know," he replied quietly, seeming to be in thought.
"Do any of you have extra abilities?" Alice asked. I sighed inwardly; God, she's a real lifesaver. I glanced around at the others, silently asking if I should tell them or not. They all slowly nodded and I turned back to Alice.
"Yes – we all do." Their reactions on a whole were funny. Several emotions crossed their features: curiosity, surprise, shock, and slight fear.
"Hmm...Who to begin with?" I questioned myself. "Well I think a few demonstrations would suffice," I told everyone. "Okay, so Arla's gift is teleportation..." she teleported outside the glass wall, and then back inside, only to grab hold of Brendon and repeat her routine. "...which she decided against using earlier."
"That is so cool!" Emmett boomed. Everyone actually seemed to agree with that statement. My family and I shared a chuckle together.
"Niklas's gift is self-replication..." Niklas replicated four of himself there and then, posed in an attacking stance. Jasper looked challenged, but also slightly intimidated.
"Are they all as strong as he is or are the weaker copies?" Daddy questioned.
"They are all as fast and strong as Niklas," I answered. "Could create an army if he wanted to." I said casually, letting my eyes flicker to Jasper while I said it. Panic crossed his features for a second when he caught my gaze.
"Now, with Brendon's gift, Alice, Edward and Emmett, have all witnessed – some experienced – what he can do," I stated. Alice was the only on not to flinch from the memory. "His gift is air bending..." That was Brendon's cue, and he chose dramatic as his scene. He conjured a tornado to spiral from his hand and made the sky outside turn dark and cloudy.
"That did not just happen." Emmett and Jasper said in synch to each other; their eyes wide like the others.
"You were just lucky I was just irritated earlier," Brendon said, grinning evilly. It sent a shiver running through Edward and Emmett – remembering their first-hand experience from in school today - again.
"With Ivor; his gift is electrokinesis," Ivor formed and electric current between his both his hands as well as turning his brother's handiwork into a small thunderstorm, but then stopping it.
"That current looked magical," Alice commented – trust her to say that.
"Well, Adalynn..." I laughed. "...she's our very own fire bender," Adalynn called forth the fire to both her hands, setting them alight, causing a couple members of Daddy's family to yelp with fear. She formed a fireball and hovered it in the air. Brendon, soon gotten bored, blew a gust of wind at it, extinguishing the flame.
Niklas wrapped his arms around his mate. "My little fire demon," he grinned. That earned himself a giggle from Adalynn.
"With the other two, Yvon and Javonn; Yvon can change her appearance to whatever she would like as well as sound like who she would like – a metamorphosis," I explained. "Finally, Javonn's got empathic sense."
"Just like my Jasper!" Alice squealed. I nodded to her, agreeing with her announcement.
"Do you have any abilities, Annie?" Edward asked with dying curiosity. He suspected I could do something because I can block his telepathic ability. I just glared at him for even mentioning me.
"Do you, Annie?" Esmé asked, sweetly.
I sighed. "I have...two gifts," And the prize for the most surprised gasps goes to, Annabelle Cullen!
"I thought it was impossible to have more than one," Daddy said. He was amazed as well as impressed.
"My first is shield projection, which I could use as defensive as well as offensive. My second in invulnerability or commonly known as a mind shield." I look up at Edward when I say that, a smirk plastered on my face. "Obviously it blocks any mental attacks, but I can also use it extend into one's mind and read their thoughts..." they were all still listening intently. "...but of course, I can expand them both to protect others too. However, well, when I use them together, I can...erm..." This a better shown then told. Expanding my shield around everyone, I levitated them all off the ground.
After a minute, I lowered everyone back down to the floor. The entire other coven was all staring at me with gobsmacked expressions.
"That was...you are...wow..." Daddy was actually speechless. I looked down, finding my hands in my lap suddenly very interesting – if I were human, I would be bright scarlet by now. Jasper chuckled as he senses my embarrassment.
"Shut up..." I muttered to him – but that just made him laugh harder.
"How were you changed, Annie?" Rosalie questioned next.
I froze. Looking sideways towards my family, they turned to me, looking sympathetically back.
