CHAPTER 26 - Surrounded By Cullen's

•~Garrett~•

I was running; my heart would be pounding out of my chest if I were human. Rain was falling hard and fast onto my diamond-like skin, washing away the mud that seemed to have covered my body. Huge, dense trees flashed by me and I could see 'Trina keeping up pace besides me. Every few seconds I glanced quickly over my shoulder, then cast my eyes along my surrounds, having sensed that someone or something was following us.

But who?

I didn't have to wait long to get my answer before we were both forced to the ground of the forest at an abrupt speed. Instincts kicking in, I pulled myself into a defensive position, a stance quickly copied by 'Trina, ready to take on our attackers. We both had each other's backs as we hastily scanned the area, stretching out our senses.

"Has your little friend sent you any clue as to who is attacking us?" I asked 'Trina so only she could hear me, barely moving my lips. The 'little friend' that I referred to is our way that we talked about her seer-type gift that she possessed.

"No not this time, sorry," was her reply. "But they're getting closer; I can feel it," she announced. I could sense that from the several different movements on the forest ground, who was out there, we were outnumbered. The wind suddenly whipped up but only briefly - it was enough though. Breathing in deeply, my eyes rolled back before the snapped back open again.

"Seven," I stated firmly but just loud enough for us to hear. To be truthful, I wasn't worried about 'Trina and I defending ourselves if things turned into a fight. 'Trina, my long-term companion and dear friend, was a fierce fighter behind her innocent facade and small frame, having formed a natural talent for it when she developed a strong interest to learn the art of fighting from myself. As for where I learned how to fight, I'm proud enough to say that my skills are high in that particular area. I've been involved with many wars - both human and vampire - seen many deaths and caused many of them too. Sadly enough, I had no choice but to teach myself how to defend from on coming attackers when I needed it most and to hit back ten times harder than whom my opponent was to be at the time.

"We are not here to cause you any harm, but we will if we must," A deep voice announced from beyond the trees. I wiped my head around on high alert but couldn't see anyone. 'Probably behind the trees,' I concluded.

"You are outnumbered," Sounded another voice, a female this time. I snarled at the threat.

"That was not a threat, Nomad!" A male hissed. This one was situated close to the female that had spoken.

"Show yourselves," I demanded, gritting my teeth. 'Trina was silent at my side but still in a guarded stance.

Silence met my demand. I was about to speak again but a female, a different one, answered. "Suit yourself,"

One by one, four males and three females appeared from behind the trees, surrounding us both. From beside me, 'Trina suddenly relaxed from being on her guard and started...smiling?!

"Cullen's," she spoke so suddenly, the grin still visible on her face.

"What?" I breathed, eyes widening slightly as I turned to address my sister, not quite believing what I'd just heard. "Did you just say..."

"Yes, 'Cullen's'," 'Trina repeated patiently, flicking her gaze at me briefly. This was the other part to her gift that confused me. If 'Trina encounter specific events, it unlocked, in a sense, information for her to receive...like what just happened now, whether it means something or not.

"Looks like we've met our second seer for the day, Arla," A female spoke up to one of the others, sounding amused. My gaze now on this girl - physically her body appeared almost human-like, with no sign that her skin was impenetrable like it should... 'Strange...' She had straight, light brown hair that only reached her shoulders in length, and her eyes...they were gold.

"At least this one doesn't fall into an obvious trance though," the female, Arla - remembering what her friend called her - replied. She had waist-length, platinum blonde hair that had a slight wave to it. Her frame was slender and appeared to be slightly taller than 'Trina. Arla, like her friend, also had gold eyes. 'If these guys are vampires, shouldn't they have red eyes? Yet they have gold...' I questioned myself, curiosity getting the better of me. As I looked around quickly, I noticed that they all had the same bright gold eyes... 'How strange,' I thought.

"Who are you?" I finally said, not standing the strangeness of the situation any longer.

A male - who appeared extremely similar to the other girl, Arla, with his side-swept, platinum blonde hair - raised an eyebrow at my question. The only difference being between the two of them was that he was taller and had a broader structure then Arla - perhaps they're biological brother and sister. "How about you tell us who you are, and then we'll return the favour," he replied.

I was just about to snap back at him when a gentle, but strong, hand gripped my upper arm, making me bite back my reply. "Of course," 'Trina replied instead. "I'm Katrina, but I prefer 'Trina," she told them all.

I turned to face her incredulously only to be met with a fierce red glare from her. 'Trina tightened her hold on my arm causing me to wince ever so slightly that only she had noticed it. "I'm Garrett, just Garrett," I addressed them all with a sigh. 'Trina beamed up at me and dropped my arm immediately. 'Why was she so happy about these people? Does she know them and not told me?' I questioned, annoyed at not having answers.

"Well, 'Trina, Garrett," The same male who countered my question nodded his head to each of us, acknowledging us. "I'm Niklas Freawine, and this is my sister Arla," he greeted, gesturing to the girl I suspected to be his sister. Arla smiled back at us politely.

"I'm Yvonica Platt, but I prefer Yvon," the first female to speak said next.

Two rather bulky and tanned males stepped forward slightly next. "I'm Brendon Quillinane, and this is my brother Ivor," They both had short black hair and stood roughly the same height to each other. 'If it was ever the case, my guess is that they are fighters,' I pondered, slighting intimidated by their size.

"I'm Adalynn Stywarde," she said, smiling. Her frame appeared to be similar to Arla's - slender but slightly taller. Her chocolate brown hair fell down her back in large curls that seemed to bounce in the breeze.

"And I'm Javonn Gilbert," he introduced. He was a dark blond, average build male... 'Would increase his agility though,' I deliberated, as I couldn't help but analyse them as if they were fighters. Carefully noticing his eyes, at a quick glance, they would seem to be gold. But, as I observed a little while longer, I could see small flecks of red in them. 'He was not long a newborn...yet he's so calm like he's been here for decades. How was he doing it?' I thought furiously. He shouldn't even be appearing that he's not struggling with his surroundings.

"Cullen's," 'Trina repeated a knowing smile on her face.

"How do you know of us?" Arla demanded, sending each of us a pointed look.

"We don't," I answered. "But we do know of a Carlisle Cullen; he's an old friend," I added, with hope it would help.

"You know Carlisle?" Adalynn asked curiously.

I nodded cautiously. "He's helped me over the years. I guess you could say I owe him, but he doesn't acknowledge the debt, so to speak. Says 'That's what friends do for each other'," I explained.

"That does sound like something Carlisle would do," she agreed after a moment's consideration.

"I wondered where Annie got that trait from," Yvon laughed.

Annie? Was that short for Annabelle? 'Who was she?' She had a beautiful name... 'Where the hell did that come from?!' I wondered. "Who's Annie?" I asked before I could stop myself.

Niklas turned sharply, while others stiffened. "She's Carlisle's daughter," he answered with a cautious edge to his voice.

"I never realised he had turned another," I murmured but everyone heard. Carlisle, if I remembered, didn't like to turn a human unless there was no other way to save them, and even then, he would hesitate to bite them. The only ones that I knew he'd turned were Edward, Esme, Rosalie, and Emmett, and there were Alice and Jasper who joined his coven not long afterwards.

"He didn't turn her. He would never have wished this life upon his own flesh and blood," the male named Brendon revealed.

"Of course," 'Trina piped up as my eyes almost popped out their sockets. "Two covens of 'Cullen' finally find each other and join together. A family reunion!" she said happily. 'How does she always know this shit?' I asked myself as I just stared at the side of her head while she smiled at the others.

"'Flesh and blood'?" I echoed, turning slowly back to face them.

Niklas sighed. "Can we trust them?" he asked, turning to his Javonn.

All seven of them exchanged looks with each other, silently deciding together, but also waiting for Javonn to...I don't know what. It was then I felt a small, almost unnoticeable force sweep over me and then it was gone. When the...shield, I guess, lifted, I saw Javonn nod at Niklas. Finally, Brendon addressed us again. "Follow us, we'll take you somewhere more...welcoming, than the middle of the woods," was all that was said as they all turned around, disappearing the direction that had come. Without hesitation, 'Trina and I sprinted off after them, not wanting to lose them from our sights.

Comments from Reviews for Chapter Twenty-Five:

- thiree - Thank you so much for your continuous reviews, I always love reading them. I hope Aro doesn't succeed either but we'll see where this story takes us.

- Maiannaise - Yep! Ahaa, I don't think Aro stands a chance at the moment, but surprise do occur sometimes, we'll have to wait and see.

- Scorpie - I've been meaning to bring the wolves into play again, just trying to figure out how to do that at the moment. I'm hoping that the story will flow nicely enough that they'll be able to slot right in. 'Trina and Felix...hmmm not a bad idea. I'll have to think on that one, thanks.

- Bri P - Ahaa, thank you for the second vote on the wolves so-to-speak. 'Trina and Edward...hmm I don't know at the moment, but I agree with Bella, I don't like her either :')

- readingfairy - Thank you so much for your support with this story. Hope you enjoyed the latest chapter too!
