The darkness was comfortable and frightening.
It was comfortable as it revealed nothing scary, but enveloped you to be alone with your thoughts. It kept you safe. It was like the cliché expression, 'If I can't see them, they can't see me.'.
Clary just wanted to stay in the darkness as she had no worries and it was peaceful.
That is what made it frightening. Clary wasn't used to the security of having no worries. Because as soon as she thought it was safe, she was suddenly in life threatening danger.
Clary tried to piece together the reason she was surrounded by darkness.
She was with her brother.
She ran away with Jordan and Maia.
She reached the institute before she lost consciousness.
She woke up and ran away as she thought Jace was repulsed by her.
She was in the elevator with Jace when a searing pain erupted from her side.
Clary gasped as she remembered the pain...and the voice.
She couldn't remember what was said, but she knew it was his voice. Her brothers voice. She remembered not being able to understand the words, which meant that she was either hallucinating or her brother somehow found a way into her head.
She wanted to cry at the thought of her brother controlling her. She would rather tie a noose around her neck and end her life before he could control any aspect of it.
As she stayed in her own mental misery, Clary realised she could hear voices when she concentrated. They weren't mental voices, but ones she hoped belonged to real people.
"How long has she been out?" Said the familiar voice of Isabelle. Clary never felt so relieved to hear her voice.
"Exactly seven hours." Jace's voice replied. Clary wanted to laugh in relief, but no sound was able to escape her lips.
"When did Magnus say that potion would be ready?"
"He didn't."
There was silence which followed Jace's words. Clary wanted to frown. What did they mean? What potion?
"What about her runes? Why did they all disappear?" Isabelle's voice broke the silence.
A sigh. "When Sebastard made Amatis drink from the cup, she lost all of her runes. but they're not completely gone."
"What do you mean?"
Clary felt someone holding her left hand, only because they lifted it and she felt one of her fingers being rubbed. "She still has her parabatai rune, its faint, but still there. The runes we got on our wedding day is alos faint, but still there."
Clary felt a gulf of hope rise in her chest at the thought that she could be saved. She desperately wanted to open her eyes and crush her lips to Jace's, but her body refused to even twitch.
"What did Magnus say the potion will do?" Finally!
"He said it should expel the demon blood from her system. The only problem with it is that it contains a rare plant that hasn't been found in centuries."
"Does he think he can find it?"
"I don't know. I just...What will I do if he can't? I love her so much, but you know how the Clave will react. They'll either imprison or kill her! I was without her for one day and I already felt like I was better off dead. If it weren't for the twins..."
Clary somehow found the strength to move at the despair of his words. She couldn't allow him to think of such things.
As soon as she was able to move her limbs, ignoring the stiffness and pain shooting through her body, Clary jumped off the bed and pounced onto Jace who still had his hands holding hers. He was surprised by her action, but didn't complain.
"You will not think of that. I'm not going anywhere." She whispered into his ear.
He wrapped his arms around her, holding her tightly to him. "But-"
"We had this discussion years ago. We promised each other if something were to happen to the other, we would not give up. We would not take the easy way out. We now have two children that depend on us. We have more reason to live now than before."
Jace pulled away from her, his eyes were now shaded by a darker purple. "Clary, when the Clave finds out that you have-"
"Like you said before, the Clave has the collective intelligence of a pineappple. Soo many things have gotten past the Clave before, why should I be any different?"
Jace just shook his head. "Clary, we're both popular among the Clave because of the extra angel blood in our systems. They are thick when it comes to simple things, but they will notice the difference in your appearance."
"I have a solution to that problem." Clary smiled as an idea came to mind.
"Oh? And that is?" Jace smiled, but it looked weak and forced.
"I *will* kill my brother."

Clary was not allowed to leave the infirmary until she was deemed safe by order of Maryse and Magnus.
Apparently Magnus had been contacting old friends to find the rare plant called 'Parrot's beak lotus berthelotii'. It has been classed rare ever since 1884. There is a place that says people can own the last few remaining plants, but Magnus has informed everyone that the plants being sold are fake, making them worthless.
Clary was bored of being in the infirmary. The last time she had to spend a lot of time in it was when she was in labour and it was easier to bring her there instead of carrying the tools needed to her and Jace's room. That time she got to focus on her pain and her children. Now she only got to ponder the dull throbbing in her side and head.
She just waved the pain in her head as a head ache which couldn't be too far off as all the white she was surrounded by made her artistic side twitch. She longed to sketch.
She instead reminisced about the day she had given birth.
She had been wondering around the institute, bored with her day. Jace had gone with Alec demon hunting and Izzy wanted to dress Clary up until Simon called (Not because of Clary at all) so Izzy went to meet him instead.
Clary had been uncomfortable all morning as her huge stomach made it near impossible to do anything. She didn't need to be told that she was having twins. The only other explanation for her size was that she was eating too much or the baby was huge.
Magnus had been like her doctor as Clary felt safer to go to Magnus instead of a mundane doctor. With hers and Jace's high angel blood level, she didn't want to risk causing a doctor to go mad.
Clary had been moody lately because of her discomfort and the fact everytime she tried to do something, Jace or someone else always offered to do it for her, infuriating the pregnant red head.
Jace hadn't planned to go hunting that day at all, but when he offered to grab a book off a table for her, she lost the plot and yelled at him. Alec being the sensitive and smart one knew to step in before Jace could become angry himself and start a fight.
If Jace knew that Clary was by herself in the institute, he would go crazy at everyone for leaving her. But it's what Clary wanted. She hadn't been left to her thought in months without someone interrupting her thoughts.
Maryse who was now, in shadowhunter terms, devorced, was in Idris, visiting Max's grave. Magnus was dealing with a client in his home and Jocelyn and Luke were on holiday.
Finally being by herself, Clary began to miss her family. Typical. Once she gets what she wants, she immediately wants the opposite.
Turning a corner, Clary realised she was outside the library. She decided to immerse herself in some book.
As soon as she entered the library, she felt something wet flow down her legs. Looking down and blushing that she had wet herself, Clary looked down and noticed it wasn't pee.
Had her...?
NO! She was only eight months pregnant! She wasn't prepared to be a mother yet! Especially since she was alone!
Clary quickly dug out her phone and called Jace. She didn't realise tears were streaming down her face till she went to place the phone against her ear.
The phone rang twice before he picked up.
"Hello, captain hot stuff is ready to hear an apology." Jace's voice said, confident aand bright, like nothing was wrong. Clary could hear Alec mumble something, but couldn''t understand what he was saying.
"J-Jace." She whispered. She was scared. Incredibly scared.
"Clary, whats wrong?" He sounded much more concerned now.
"My water broke!" She said louder this time.
"What?" Oh right, he wouldn't understand what she was saying.
"I'm going into labour!" She said, her voice didn't shake.
"WHAT?! but you're not due for another month!"
"Tell that to the babies!"
"Okay, okay. Lets not panic. Have Izzy call Mag-"
"Hehe, Izzy's not here..."
"What? Whose with you?"
"Church?"
"CLARISSA HERONDALE!" Clary couldn't help the smile that spread across her face at her name. "WHY ARE YOU BY YOURSELF?"
"I didn't expect to be going into labour-"
"Clary! What am I going to do with you?!"
"Get home now so I won't be alone?"
"Right..." Clary heard Jace shout over to Alec. "Clary's gone into labour. Call the warlock and Izzy to meet us at the Institute!" Clary felt a small cramp on her stomach, but it was easily ignored. "Clary, stay on the phone. I'll be home soon!"
Clary laughed at Jace. He fought demons, no problem. But the sound of panic in his voice was adorable. "I'll be okay. Just get here quick."

Clary had managed to get to the infirmary by herself. The cramp in her stomach had worsened. She was sure she shouldn't be in pain yet. She would have to ask Magnus if it was connected to the angel blood she had.
She reached the white room and lied down in a random bed. A part of her was telling her to get up and start gathering supplies, but she new to ignore that voice. She was sure the pain would worsen if she moved.
Jace was going to be angry when he got home as her phone had died so she couldn't stay on the phone with him. She had no warning about her dead battery as she had ignored the indicator to say low battery.
She rolled onto her side, which was a huge mistake.
The pain worsened, and she let out a scream. She was more than certain that she shouldn't be in pain. Was something wrong with the babies?!
She kept screaming, but could hear heavy footfalls outside the door. She desperately hoped it was something that could help her.
The door banged open and Magnus quickly rushed to her side.
"Hello darling. I heard you're pregnant." He said, trying to lighten the atmosphere.
"Magnus, I'm in pain and I shouldn't be. I'm in no mood to laugh." She hissed as another contraction hit. She screamed again, arching her back in pain.
More footfalls could be heard, she just desperately hoped this was over soon.
A women with brown hair entered the room. She had grey eyes and looked tall. There was an air of age and power that surrounded her. She was shortly followed by Jace who was red in the face and sweaty.
"Clary!" Jace exclaimed as he ran to her. He grabbed one of her hands which was clutching the blanket on the bed.
"Jace." She whispered, ignoring Alec and Izzy who stood in the doorway. She looked towards the women with brown hair. "W-who are you?"
The women smiled as she walked over to Magnus, helping him gather supplies. "My maiden name is Tessa Grey. My marriage, welll, widowed name is Tessa Herondale."

Clary was finally resting on her side. she was uncomfortable, but thankful she was no longer in pain.
The women - Tessa - Had been the one to deliver the babies as Magnus said, She had more experience. Jace had been hesitant, but allowed it as he was gaping in pain as Clary clutched his hand in pain.
It didn't take her long to become fully dilated. She didn't remember the whole process, aside from being told repeatedly to breath and to push.
Magnus and Izzy had been sent to clean the babies before Clary got a chance to hold them. She asked Tessa what they were. She told her she had a boy and girl.
Clary could see Jace's curiosity about the women and after being encouraged by Clary, he finally walked over to her and began questioning her.
Clary didn't want to eavesdrop, so instead she turned on her side and began panicing about why her babies were gone so long. She felt tears well up in her eyes.
Her stupid hormones were erratic at the moment, so she didn't have to bother wondering why she was crying. Unfortunately, Jace didn't ignore the sob that escaped.
He had rushed over to her and wiped her tears away and kissed her on the forehead, nose and finally lips. It was a short and sweet kiss, which Clary loved none the less.
They broke away,, Jace climbed onto the bed to lie beside her.
Before either could speak, Magnus and Iz came back into the room, two bundles of blankets in Izzy's arms. she was smiling widely as she walked over to Clary and Jace.
"Two little people have been looking forward to meeting you." she said as she handed Jace and Clary a bundle each.
Clary looked inside the bundle and gasped as she stared into her own eyes. She smiled as she swept a tuft of blonde hair from the babies forehead and the baby caught her finger and held it tightly.
Clary smiled as the baby in Jace's arms had wrapped its tiny hand around his finger also. Clary noticed that baby had golden eyes and red hair.
"Well, we know one thing for sure" Alec said as he entered the room.
"And what's that?" Clary asked, refusing to let her gaze leave her babies.
"You really were dumb enough to let that idiots bloodline continue." Clary laughed as Jace glared at his brother.
Breaking from the memory, Clary looked around herself. She was alone as Jace had gone to research the plant Magnus needed, but she could have sworn she heard a voice.
Shaking her head, Clary played with the hem of the blanket on the bed she was in.
Everything was quiet until the voice arose again. "Hello little sister. I know where you are. Come to me." Clary felt her body start to move without her permission. What the hell was going on?!
