Beckett was in the kitchen making breakfast while waiting for Castle to come over. She spent most nights at his loft, but with Martha's studio flooded and a loft full of students, it was hard to find any privacy.
Her golden retriever, Royal, was standing by her side as she moved around the kitchen. "No boy." She told Royal as he went to jump towards the plate of pancakes she had sat down.
Castle used his key to let himself in. "Hey."
"Hey, babe." She smiled at him, flipping the last pancakes and putting them on top of the pile she had already made.
"Hey buddy." Castle patted Royal's head.
He closed the gap between himself and Kate, wrapping his arms around her waist. He pressed her up against the counter as she wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning in for their good morning kiss.
Royal growled then, watching them.
They broke apart and looked at him. "Jealous." Castle raised an eyebrow at the dog.
Beckett put her hand on his arm. "Well this is the first time he's seen us kiss."
"True." He went to kiss her again, but Royal shoved his nose into Castle's leg. "Have I taken your girlfriend or something?" Castle questioned the pooch.
Royal huffed, his head nodding. Kate tried not to laugh.
Castle looked back at her. "Even when you're all mine I still have competition."
"Castle, the dog isn't going to steal me away."
"He has puppy eyes. Puppy eyes are dangerous. We wouldn't have this problem if you had a girl dog." Castle put his hand on her hip and Beckett wrapped her arms around his neck again.
"It's normal for dogs to be protective of their owners."
"I still say he has a crush."
Beckett rolled her eyes. "Dogs can't have crushes on humans."
"How do we know that? We can't read his mind!" Castle was getting excited, his imagination getting the best of him.
"Yeah, but I would guess that he's thinking you're crazy!" Beckett teased, poking his nose.
"Not crazy! I just don't want to compete with a dog." He turned his nose up in mock annoyance.
"You're not competing with a dog."
He went to say something, but she held a finger to his lips. "Castle."
"What?"
"Drop it." She laughed at her pun.
Castle chuckled, holding her closer. "Oh."
"Besides, I pick you anyway." She pecked him on the lips and grabbed his hand, leading him to the table. "Now sit and eat."
"Woof.",Castle answered.
