As promised, here's another chapter! Thanks for all the reviews!

"Dad? How are you?"

"Hey son, I'm fine" he glanced at him and then focused on Zoe "you brought the pretty doctor, too. Great, I wanted to thank you" he cleared his throat "for what-"

"You don't need to thank me, it's my job" she nodded and looked at Wade who had not yet left his hand.

"Seems I'm gonna be your father-in-law too" he said in a low and hoarse voice as he noticed they were holding hands. He tried to laugh but only managed to let out a half cough. Wade gave Zoe a worried look but she slowly caressed his hand reassuringly.

"Earl you should sleep, you still have to recover from a lot"

"I'm glad that everything went well" Wade said as he approached his father's bed and put his hands on the bed rails.

"Me too" Earl smiled and patted his son's hand.

Zoe stood awkwardly near the door as she watched the father-son bonding and she was considering sneaking outside when Dr Marcus entered the room.

"Mr Kinsella, how are you feeling?"

"Oh, I'm great. My son and his girlfriend here were just checking on me, aren't they a cute couple?" He grinned and pointed at them. Dr Marcus observed them for a while and then smiled, nodding.

"Oh come on Earl!" Wade shouted, a little embarrassed. Every time, he couldn't seem to remember Wade and Zoe had broken up and kept asking him how their relationship was. It was painful for him to be reminded that Zoe was not by his side anymore and that it was his fault. Actually he was not the only one to blame: the relationship didn't start in the best way since Zoe was trying to forget George while he was trying to convince himself that he didn't have feelings for her.

"Sure they are" Dr Marcus answered with an almost coy smile.

That's awkward, Wade thought as he glanced over at Zoe, who had a beautiful smile on her face. God she was being so cool with all this, it seemed all those assumption by his father didn't bother her at all. Or was she just really good at hiding it?

"Now you should let him rest, you can come back tomorrow" Dr Marcus said, turning to Zoe and Wade: both stood near the bed and were holding hands again.

They nodded and said their goodbyes, Earl's eyes were already closing and he was powerless, he only managed a low "see you tomorrow" before falling asleep like a baby.

It was late in the evening and Wade was driving the car back to Bluebell. Zoe was in the front seat, next to him and she appeared to be half asleep, her arm, leaned on the window as a support for her head. It had been a really long day and Wade could see why she was so tired. He was, too, but had gotten used to only a few hours of sleep at night in the last days so he resisted much more than she did. When they left Earl's room they went back to Jesse's to check on him and make sure everything was okay. Then they decided to head to Bluebell to try and sleep, too.

"Are we home yet?" She whispered as she stretched.

"I thought you were asleep" Wade said "we'll be in ten minutes"

She nodded and silence fell upon them till Wade spoke again.

"You know, I've slept a whole lot better with you in my arms" he wanted to let her know that he'd missed her and that she made his life better in every way, only with her presence, but when he realized she could interpret it the wrong way, which was a flirt typical of the old Wade, he added "I wasn't implying anything sexual, I just-"

He heard her chuckle and sighed deeply God I screwed up, now she's gonna think that I'm my old self, again.

"I'd realized it wasn't meant like that" Zoe replied sweetly "though you're cute when you try to explain yourself"

Wade breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe he wasn't the one who'd grown over the summer, she seemed more understanding, too.

Wade pulled off in front of Zoe's carriage house, got out and made his way to open the car door for her then he followed her and waited while she searched for her keys in the purse. How can women fit so much stuff in a small purse Wade still couldn't understand. When she found the key and opened the door, she got in, put her purse on the couch and then looked at his motionless figure on the doorstep. he seemed so desperate but hopeful at the same time.

"You really need a whole night's sleep" she realized.

"I guess I do" he sighed, his eyes full of desire, "I know I have no right to ask you this"

"Come in" she relented and moved aside to let him enter.

"I can stay on the couch" he looked in its direction and was reminded of the night he spent there to protect her from the ghost of Leon Mercy. That had been one of the strangest and funniest nights since she came in town. Well, then there had been awesome nights when both of them were in her bed, too, but that first night he understood he was falling hard for her if he'd agreed to sleep on her couch because of her fear of the non-existent ghost of a dead person.

"Then my positive influence wouldn't work, right? Come on, you can sleep next to me" she took his hand and headed to the bed, he only managed to kick the door shut and followed her "only one rule: keep your pants on" she chuckled and got in the bathroom to change into a pajamas made of black shorts and a blue tank top. When she got out he was already in his underwear and a shirt and stared at her for long and woke up from his unconsciousness only as he heard a snap of fingers.

His heart was beating fast as they took place under the covers of her bed. She was lying on her side and he embraced her, one arm that she covered with hers, that encircled her waist, the other lying under her head as a pillow. He inhaled deeply the scent coming from her smooth hair and when she took his big hand in her small one he let out a breath he didn't know he was holding and finally sleep wasn't a problem anymore.

Hope you liked it, I think the end was cute :)
